Get rid of the "Kindly no End Times or Age of Sigmar." bit. We know already. No other general has to do this.

Also might help to just make a "games" pastebin with the six or so at the bottom of the list. Plus, there will be more coming, with the hack-and-slash and TWW sequel/expansion/etc.

I was reading over fluff from Grom the Paunch's battles, specifically this one, and I found it odd that the Empire not keeping its oaths of friendship with the Dwarves only earned a grudge. Wouldn't this be enough to drastically affect their relationship? If an agreement isn't being kept by one side, the Dwarves shouldn't feel they have to honor their end.

A token force of human support might have explained this - they upheld their side of things, if not well - but no such force was apparently sent.

>>52456721
Gotta keep the
>"Kindly no End Times or Age of Sigmar."
If it gets removed now, people will think we've changed our policy and starting posting that trash unironically.
>>
>>52456945
I feel like we could risk leaving it off for a thread or two and see what happens. If people post, we can ignore them. If it gets bad enough, we can reinstate it.

Grudges are a far bigger deal to dwarfs than they are to humans. That single grudge probably resulted in many dwarfs trying to screw over the Empire in trade deals, turn a blind eye to bandits or even beastmen who raid the Empire but hide in the dwarven mountains and not help the Empire in their hour of need.

What is the most powerful lore of magic in Warhammer Fantasy 2nd edition, not counting the dark lores ( I guess lore of Nagash might count.) Ice magic seems pretty strong given it's mainly damage dealing, and also debuffs, while having some armour ignoring and instant kills on cirts spells.

Its a "sequel" that functions like an expansion.

Like how some movies, Blair Witch 2, have nothing to do with the original but are sold as sequels, or how Lord Of The Rings is technically The Hobbit 2, 3, and 4.

Its an expansion called a sequel.

Speaking purely WHFRP2ed Mechanically yes it can be used outside of Kislev the only actual restriction is that you have to take the Ice Witch career path which is only female. It wouldn't be every fun over wise, given it's a roleplay game.

(This maybe completely different in the lore or other games. )

Did that prophecy that Malekith worried about ever come to fruition in the actual lore, even during the End Times?

>And lo, he shall rule with a dark hand and his shadow shall touch upon every land. Steel will be his skin and fire will be his blood, in hatred will he conquer all before him. No blade forged of Man, Dwarf or Elf shall endure him fear. Though will it come to pass that the firstborn son of noble blood shall rise to power. The child will be learned in the darkest arts and he will raise an army of terrible beasts. Thus will the Dark King fall, slain by neither blade nor arrow but by a sorcerous power of darkest magic and so shall his body be consumed in the flames and for all eternity burn.

No. The Empire is almost entirely unaware of their true nature and likely to dismiss it even if they found out. The Empire mostly just gets attacked by them when they send expeditions to Lustria and piss them off somehow, usually by stealing something.

Teclis and Malekith, and the few Elves who believe them, are among the only beings who know the truth of them. Not counting Caledor the Dragontamer and his Mages anyway.

The Empire only worked with vampires willingly during the End Times; before that, the best you could really get is trying to fluff out Empire-style regiments serving in Slyvania.

As a whole, the relationship with the Lizardmen has been antagonistic - people sail across the ocean looking for gold or relics, the Lizardmen don't want those taken and fight them off. But occasionally the Lizardmen will try and work with humans - against a common enemy, for the sake of defending an area or retaking a relic (the former of which was the reason for Pizarro's Lost Legion's survival), or when they want to know something that in their isolation/busy-with-defending-Lustria state, they can't find the answer to.

Original canon was that Ariel was (?) and the Everqueens are the direct line from Isha and when they get pissed off all the past Everqueens and Isha all merge into one being in the Everqueen's mortal body. The Lady was definitely an Elf goddess, but it wasn't any specific one.

The retcon from End Times is that the Everqueens are only direct descendants and nothing else, but after Lileath/The Lady killed Isha/Ariel the Everqueen was able to literally consume her soul and become a living demigod.

I personally prefer the depictions - as rare as they were - where his face was dark - you couldn't actually see it, just glowing eyes, usually green. I know it's kind of overplayed, but I thought it was threatening to have a faceless enemy, like how Darth Vader is more imposing for his mask than for the face beneath. It makes him a foreboding figure, with a hint of dark magic about him, instead of another evil elven noble. And it also fits Malekith in a way - he wouldn't want to show his scars, his weakness, and he seems too dour for a beautiful mask.
>>
>>52476205
You could accomplish both with the same model with a different paint job.

I've been reading the Knights of the Grail book, and here's something simple I don't get:

Does Bretonnia use money? It seems like all their taxes are done through agriculture tithes, or perhaps other resources. They don't even know what to do with merchants when it comes to taxes.

How can they get a medieval economy working in the context of their closest neighbors using a system much closer to the modern period - with the beginnings of industry and money-based trade?
>>

>>
>>52477097

Southlands usually distinguishes itself from Araby/land of the dead
>>
>>52478086
Simple, the WHFB world just ain't all that realistic. It's about putting armies together and having them fight, not worrying about the transition from a barter economy to a monetary one.
>>
>>52478086
You have to remember that Warhammer was originally parody, written by guys who taught college history that mixed it with Moorcock and D&D then dialed up things to 11 for humor.

Remember that Bretonnia hasn't had an update since 6e lorewise.
Remember that it was only in 4e that Bretonnia was pre-Napoleonic and at war with the Empire until suddenly becoming Arthurian luddites that are just prissy neighbors who never do anything noteworthy.
>>
>>52474359

In 8th ed:

HE were beyond broken: strongest banner in the game, strongest monster in the game, another quite good monster (both flew, so good luck redirecting them), infantry that hit like a truck, ridiculous magic phase, good chariots and cavalry

DE were good, but I do not know them very well, I only know that their Warlocks were considered to be one of the best units in the game

WE were...strange. Very versatile, the most diverse magic of everyone, and they were prett good at it. Solid shooting, bordering on the op (poisonous BS4 core troops), very strong cavalry
>>
>>52478306

>18th century Bretonnia

That sounds kinda neat. Though looking it up pre 4th isn't pre napoleonic so much as French contemporary to the HRE Empire, I think?

http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?18476-The-Evolution-of-Bretonnia

Cannons and mortars, still knights aplenty, someone says they were trying to colonize and explore Lustria in 5th edition, better navy than the empire.

Could be neat if they had a kind of French wars of religion angle by making Bretonnian society ripped apart by a feuding of maybe the old lady of the lake faith and some new religion.

Instead we have ________________ >>52466781

>>52478383

For us warhammer TW fags, between HE and DE: Who has better infantry of the line, who has better non magical ranged, who has better cavalry, who has better flying cavalry? Dark elves have monstrous infantry (with those sea creatures like Kharybdis) and I assume high elves have none except for the star dragon?
>>
>>52478398

On tabletop, DE had Hydras and the strange sea beast, HE had dragons (only on heroes or lords), Phoenixes (fire and ice based, the ice one was totally bonkers)

Neither had proper "monstrous infantry", but both had very good monsters
>>
>>52478410

Sorry yeah I guess it'd be large monsters, not monstrous infantry.
>>
>>52478398
It's a weird mix of 16th century and 17th century - there's a Sun King figure, the nobility is treated more like Versailles style courts and and nobles who are rich along with country nobles who are poor as dirt with little more than a sword and honor, but the army itself was much more medieval all in all - bombards, yes, but still knights and 100 Years War style infantry.

At that time it was a bit more 'everything French,' not 'King Arthur with some French ladeled over it.'

High Elves for the most part had the best everything. Their only weaknesses were lack of high Strength and Toughness anything other than their monsters, but that "weakness" applies to most armies in the game as well. THE best magic, THE best magic items, THE best cavalry, THE best flyers. Your assumption is really wrong, since High Elves got the huge fucking Phoenix models in 8th edition and even before that their Lion Chariots were far better than most of the monsters in the game for point cost. That's on top of a mobile artillery piece/flying chariot with good stats.
Their only rivals for "best army in the game" were Vampire Counts (which had more hard counters), Skaven (who have a chance of more or less losing regardless of all else based on poor luck), and Warriors Of Chaos. The only major hard counter to High Elves that always works was actually was a magic item from Ogre Kingdoms. Not counting cannons which are a hard counter to everything.

Dark Elves were stuck being High Elves but not as good. Less goodies, most of the rest of their stuff is palette-swaps with slightly different unimportant special abilities.

Wood Elves, until their 8e update which was pretty much the very end of the life of Warhammer Fantasy, sucked pretty hard. Even during their previous heyday, they were below Dark Elves. After their update they were like "what if Tomb Kings got buffed" where your army is flimsy and actually has to support between units to function.

Many people hated High Elf players as well as Skaven since those were the armies that tryhard assholes flocked to, and the longterm players of both armies became snooty and defensive as a result.
>>
>>52478859
That picture somehow disqualifies everything you just said.

>>
>>52478086

Well. Is it an ebook? If so post it please.

It could work. France always lagged behind the German states and Belgium in terms of mercantilism.

What you would find is that, Bretonnian states on the boarder are more likely to operate a cash nexus. The peasants who work the land still owe the Lord a tithe, but instead of payment in kind, they will take the lands produce to the market and give the Lord a cut from the money. They may even sell some of the food they would have eaten, in order to buy meat or some luxury goods.

This was a rare occurrence in real history and they would have been very well off peasants but it did happen. Particularity in areas where feudalism was giving way to cottage industry. Usually near towns which needed materials, the peasants could spin for them in the crop off season.

How exchange rates work etc. would be another problem but not impassable in anyway.

From the odd bits of lore that have been given about Cathay, they make heavy use of terracotta automatons, bronze cannons (that shot bronze javelins for some reason), enchanted fireworks (which created illusory figures in their explosions), one-horned ogres, stone temple-dogs and onyx crow-men, "Dragon-blooded Shugengan [that] hurled white fire and blizzards of murderous ice shards," bejeweled Gold Dragons, and finally at least some standard human warriors with swords and emerald green back-banners.

I agree with the other anon that they should have a Qing or Ming aesthetic (perhaps with a too liberal does of Japanese and Korean), but it sounds like they make a lot more use of fantastical creatures than you'd expect, as well as gunpowder. This is not China of the Three Kingdoms (around 100-200ish CE), but a fantastical early-modern China like around 1600-1800 CE - you can get away with such a late date since they were grossly medieval in tactics for a while.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I guess too many people do think of the elves as all looking the same depending on if they're High, Wood or Dark. They could use some racial variety.

>they make heavy use of terracotta automatons
>stone temple-dogs and onyx crow-men

After reading about th Jade Blooded, I like to believe that these guys brought the practice of animating statues from Nehekara to Cathay. I just love when you can track stuff like that "historically" in a fantasy setting, also making the concept feel more believable and less of a random gimmick because lolChina.

Terracota soldiers in particular sound interesting, using hardened clay makes them economical enough for mass production, but not resilent or quick-witted enough to outright replace flesh and blood soldiers. And of course, limited by the need to have a wizard present and the fact that the wizard's demise puts them out of the game in one move.

>>
>>52481061
It might have been them, but it does also mention something about how "strange creatures of living stone swam down the jade walls of the tower and through the rocky ground as if it were water." I didn't include that in the earlier post since I wasn't sure if it was referring to the temple dogs, the crow-men, or something else entirely.

Anyway, I do agree that tracing the history of a fantasy setting makes it feel far better than just things existing for no particular reason. I haven't read Jade-Blooded, so I don't really know much about what you're referring to, but I think Cathay's been implied to be working alongside vampires or even Skaven at times, or there are corrupt elements that would eagerly embrace learning from vampires or such, that would later be killed but the ideas they took slowly being worked in a 'clean' form. Dark Elves raid it on occasion after they get bored with the more traditional raiding targets, so they're not totally isolated from everything else that goes on. Magic seems to be surprisingly common in Cathay - lots of animated statues and enchanted fireworks and such. I'd like to imagine it's some sort of Confucius-style learning of magic, mainly based around Heavens.
>>
>>52481201

In short, Jade blooded are the vampire bloodline originated from an advisor in Lahmia's court that was obsessed with laws, regulations and good maners, creating a hilariously long and convoluted code of conduct. They happened to be on a diplomatic mission when they heard about Lahmia's doom so they just went to Cathay without working under Nagash.

The name comes because they're so addicted to narcotics and whatever drugs they can find that their blood turned into a neon green that shines through their skin.

One way I like to look at it is that elves physically look like ayys, but that subconscious "glamour" effect they all give off makes them look more attractive to whoever they're taking to. That's why humans see them as perfect versions of themselves. I also think part of the effect is heightening suggestibility so others can trust them/be deceived easier. Dwarfs are unaffected by this glamour which is why they see the elves as the gross pricks they really are.

DISCLAIMER: Fan theory, headcanon

Just different artists making Elves look varying degrees of Cumberbatch or ayy.

To be fair there's virtually no mention of ayy in canon lore other than like two Black Library references, and there's far more saying everyone sees them as perfect. Its Eldar lore that has them looking like ayy to humanity, but sadly 40k canon gets mixed into Fantasy like shitty Subway workers dropping pickles into the olive bin.

You don't need to buy every race, just the ones you want to play. By the time you're done with the good factions, the other ones should be on sale. Steam summer sale maybe, or Christmas.

I remember only descriptions about her "hakwish feautures", prolonged faces, somewhere almond shaped eyes were mentioned that the art barely shows, also dark eyes (wfrp 1ed) and the beauty aspect coming from their elegant movement instead of them just looking like supermodels with pointy ears. The "perfect" elves might be from black library books as well. Though as it is with these things you are always free to chose which is your canon, as long as it doesn't heavily conflict with already established things.

Fuck, I'm pretty sure that I made the same arguments in an Eldar-look discussion before. That's why I rather go from the army books, even though they hire different artists I always imagine that for these the artists work closer together with GW than most black library authors, who can make their own shit up. And even though the art can different, I imagine that you can see some kind of GWs "vision" through every artist. And there I can find my beloved ayys
>>
>>52484440
For art it's probably more of a "rule of cool" thing where everything gets a pass as long as it looks good regardless of fiting any vision. You gotta sell a product after all. If it makes teenagers believe the army is cool it will be in the army book eveb if it actively contradicts the text. Or the text will be edited to fit the cool art.

>>
>>52484541
Early on the artists were given free reign to do whatever they wanted, as were sculptors. You didn't really have dedicated sketch artists for minis or any direction from the higher ups for the most part.
Like if every Reaper mini was part of the same game.

The sculptors started taking cues from the game book artists though, which fucked GW sideways during the great Malal debacle.
>>
>>52484440

The way I see it they are both.

Ayy and beautiful Elves don't seem to contradict each other so it can just be varieties of appearance.

Same for the eyes, Kerillion in Vermintide has solid black eyes and that came out 2 years ago.
>>
>>52484541
For me this doesn't really contradict anything because nowhere I've seen a description stating: "they have perfectly fine 100% human-like facial feautures + pointy ears". Furthermore in the same edition there were other pictures done by the same artist I assume, the style is just too similar looking less extreme, so there is always the possibility for their looks being more diverse than we think. The elf I posted might be an ugly fuckface for them and he suffers because of this

Vampire souls are completely immune to Chaos, and Vampires are already stronger than anyone other than a Daemon Prince but have far more freedom than a DP could ever have.

So as a result Chaos has very little to offer them in the long term. Short term goals maybe, but that's it. Since its already the goal of Blood Knights to not have to drink blood, the Blood God actually isn't that appealing.

Sorry, I misread it.

The answer is that we have no canon interaction other than the clusterfuck that is End Times where for some reason every Blood Dragon other than Abhorash suddenly goes Khorne at the last second, and Abhorash soloes the entire rest of the Bloodline alongside the Green Knight.

That shitpile aside, not well. Blood Dragons have a sense of nobility and honor, to the degree Bretonnians grudgingly respect them. Although in early continuity honor was supposed to be part of Khorne since the Chaos Gods are a mix of everything so all war inclinations are part of him, later canon turned Chaos into snickering Saturday morning cartoon villains so almost all Khornates are just ragemonsters that can barely string words together and the remainders are mustache-twirlers.

>An NES game in 1990 cost, on average, about $50. That’s $89 in 2013 money. Your $70 N64 cartridges in 1998 would require the equivalent of $100 today. Heck, the $50 PlayStation 2 game you bought in 2005 is worth $60, the exact price of a typical retail game in 2013. This isn't to say that salaries (or hourly pay) have kept up with inflation and the cost-of-living -- it decidedly hasn't -- but it is to say that, dollar-to-dollar over the past 35 years, gaming hardware and software is generally cheaper than ever.

>Hardware in particular is where differences in cost – when accounting for inflation – is extremely pronounced. The PlayStation 3 may have seemed expensive when it launched at $599.99 in 2006 – and it was – but it’s not the most expensive mainstream gaming console. That honor goes to the Atari 2600. Launched in September of 1977, the Atari 2600 cost $199.99. When taking into account the 258.9 percent inflation rate between 1977 and 2013, the Atari 2600 cost the equivalent of $771 today. ("Mainstream" gaming hardware typically had to sell over 10 million units in totality, or currently be on the market.)

>Tracking Nintendo home consoles since the release of the NES in 1985 further illustrates this. Though the NES launched at a totally reasonable $199.99 that year, $199.99 was a significant sum of money in the mid-‘80s. The inflation rate since 1985 is a staggering 117.4 percent, meaning that the NES is actually the most expensive Nintendo console ever released ($199.99 in 1985 equals $434.69 in 2013).
