The Warhammer Fantasy Armory says that Gromril and Ithilmar armor is always best quality. Do the profiles given in the same book account for that?

Are emperor dragons & star dragons the same thing?

I got the impression that they were but then I read some lore that said even the dragontamers of caledor couldn't tame emperor dragons, which makes me think they're even older and more powerful than star dragons.

I was thinking we could compile them before hand but, you're right I hadn't thought about adding new ones, I have no issue seeding constantly, but I think it would be in everyone's best interest to have one central torrent with all the books and such on it.
If we can't add new files to it we may have to just take the torrent down and reseed with the newer files.
That's less than ideal so we may just need to look for an alternative if we can't just add the new files.

I've set it up but all the novels need reorganising into the categories found here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Warhammer_Fantasy_novels, so it'll probably be tomorrow before I get everything uploaded. It's about 11pm in the UK now.

It's funny how ignorant the stupid trolls that occasionally go on this thread to make bait posts are.

Just because it's no longer officially supported by GW doesn't make it dead, after all there are people that still play 7th-8th editions, people that play the previous editions or "Oldhammer", and people that play in the setting but in different systems, like proxying their armies for use in 9th Age, KoW and One Page Rules, or make use of content like Warhammer Armies Project and its own custom 9th edition. Not to mention WHFRP and the specialist games like Mordheim, Blood Bowl (although that is its own universe) and etc.

It's hilarious and sad at the same time, really, that those people would continue to bait (and fail at it) WHFB players. Because by their logic, they should also go bait 40k players that play like, say, Rogue Trader (40k 1st edition, not the FFG game) or one of the other editions before, say, 5th-7th.

>inb4 "b-but 40k is not a dead setting"
True, but the Rogue Trader era and Squats and Zoats aren't really official or supported anymore by GW now, are they? And even if Oldcrons technically still sort of exist in 5th and beyond, the actual Oldcrons themselves and C'tan that aren't Pokemon aren't really there.
>>
>>52423181

The worst thing is, how the fuck did these people manage before GW?

Back in the days of historicals, everyone played different scales, different rules etc. etc.

If you needed a certain spear in 28mm and nobody sold it, you made it yourself.

Same thing in the early days of Fantasy and Sci-fi. If anything, having one company supply the rules, models and setting is a conflict of interest.

I can see Warlord going down the same path, they're a great company now but if they ever get sold they'll turn into the GW of historicals.

I'm calling it now lads, Stormcast, Fireslayers, Steam Dwarfs and all the new factions split into AoS,

GW brings the old factions back as Fantasy.

They run both games simultaneously.
>>
>>52417299
most other sites are much slower and have a 30 minute lockout after you download one file
>>
>>52424083
I was wondering, would it really be that expensive for Games Workshop to go back to selling WHFB models?
I understand that you wouldn't want them taking up space in store if they're not flying off the shelves, but surely it's not that expensive just to have the models available online? Companies like Reaper manage with a fairly extensive online range where I'm sure almost half of the shit doesn't get touched. You also get the recasters that have almost the entire Warhammer Fantasy, 40k and Forge World lines available, and they're literally made up of just one chinese bloke in his garage.
>>
>>52425077
Aren't a lot of models still technically being sold? They have weak explanations for Empire units, and they haven't changed the Elves all that much. Only thing they've definitely squatted are Tomb Kings and Bretonnians, and if for some reason you really wanted to play AoS as them, it wouldn't be hard to convert them.

Though I wonder what you would do with knights that are on round bases anyway. Harder to get a cavalry charge going.

Well all GW care about is selling models, they want the rules to be as hassle free as possible to facilitate this. If releasing 8th edition PDF's or a 9th edition like KoW with everything in one book helps them to push sales by even 10% I think they would do it.

The slowdown in AoS has convinced me that we'll be seeing Fantasy again sooner rather than later.

Been saying this since day 1, and yet 2 years later it's the same shit. But the fantasy grongards are the ones who keep crying about how their setting is dead and gone and how GW commandos showed up at their house, burned their rule books and shoved sigmarines up their asses until they played AoS or gave up wargaming altogether. the trolls just come because they're such easy targets.

The problem is the shit tier writing. They rushed the whole End Times thing and just threw things out the window like it was moving day. It like an setting a la Idiocracy. Filled with lame exposition about how GREAT and EPIC everything is.

"THEN THE SKULLGUYS CAME AND THEY WERE THE MOST EVIL AND BAD ASS BECAUSE THEY HAD TEN MORE SKULLS THAN EVERYONE ELSE. THEY LIVED IN CASTLE SKULL WHICH WAS MADE OF SKULL."

Then there is the its is the far future and some how standard characters who have models are still alive (which makes no sense), but some are not and the ones that don't have models definitely are not. Anything that isn't copy writable gets slight name change. (because that will do anything to stop the problem)

I will give you there are some cool concepts of it. The concept is pretty cool. It is not a power metal cover, it is the rear box art from Warcraft 3. Art direction directly lifted from the game and warmachine.
>>
>>52427666
this, the spirit of Warhammer was always captured in it's artwork, and people complain about it "being too 40k" when that isn't even the case, it doesn't look "Warhammer" like 40k art used to look "Warhammer" now it looks cartoony and often just plain bad.

The same thing is happening with 40k right now, the whole setting is being bent over backwards to make way for GWs new Developments.

It's kind of a weird situation with bows and crossbows, bows should have a higher rate of fire than crossbows and actually be harder to fire on the move as you have to be in a position to draw an arrow, nock and fire. With a Crossbow you just have to stop and bring it up to your shoulder to fire.

On the other hand a longbow should have a greater range as you can arc the arrow better, realistically, a bowman should be better but more expensive but for whatever reason everyone does the opposite.

I'm not against buying new stuff, there just hasn't been anything I've liked or found useful. Maybe if they came out with a new Fiend kit, or an "Aelf" I could use as Finubar I'd buy something though.

I'd argue the reverse. She was turned directly by Vlad, and early, as well as being taught directly by him without fear of her growing more powerful than him. She should be one of the most powerful after him.

The Hero status was back when only she and Vlad actually had their own rules. Once Manny and Kon got added as Lords she should have gotten a promotion.

>Am I the only one who feels genuinely sad about how they raped their own bg only to make money?
No, but the old stuff is still there. And it won't go away either.
Personally started to I lose interest in 40k a while ago and when I started to focus more on WHFB the brought AoS inot existence. By now I have moved on to greener pastures.
I still have my WHFB models and my armybooks though and every once in a while, when nostalgia catches up with you it's nice to thumb through them.

In the end I feel like it's actually quite liberating to let that stuff go.
I just have to bring myself to sell all the models for the armies I always wanted to build, but never got around to.

Smaller Orc Bands aren't strangers to mercenary work, also Banditism and Piracy, Orcs left to their own devices come up with all kinds of stuff to do with their free time. Especially Black Orcs.

However, once they get a Waagh going, they don't really fraternize with non-orcs until the Waagh calms down or Ends spectacularily.

Goblins are much less likely to do mercenary work due to their cowardly and vile nature. But Orcs will do it for the right prize, they are just as likely to just rob and eat you though, always be wary around Greenskins.

Vampires certainly have more reliable sources of troops than Greenskin Mercs though.

Technically just about any race can be mercenaries, if for whatever reason groups among them could decide to fight for gold, or even just for the sake of fighting, on behalf of an employeer.

Dwarven warriors stranded far from home, Dark Elves interested in making a name for themselves outside of the archaic titles of Naggaroth, Bretonnian knights with besmirched honor, Wood Elves stuck in a hunt they can barely focus...and that's not even considering some of the canon mercenaries. A bunch of Lizardmen Cold One riders that will fight for Lizardmen artifacts as payment, Mengil Manhide's Manflayers, the Cursed Company, a High Elf Dragon Rider...even a lot of the more mundane human mercenaries have reasons behind being mercenaries that could be applied to other races. Leopold's Leopard Company was outcast from their city and fight for a mix of survival and piety - who's to say that some Dwarves couldn't have felt they had shamed their ancestors, but instead of taking the slayer oath, they felt they could redeem themselves through gold earned in battle?
>>
>>52434867
Long Drong was a cabin boy as long as he could remember, brought by his father to work on the same ship as a small child, and worked his way to captain of his own Ironclad. None of the crew had ever seen a woman since they'd spent their entire lives at sea like him so they approximated what one must look like for a figurehead. He ran aground during a storm and he was so ashamed at losing all the fantastic booze the whole crew swore the Oath.
He then kicked the ass of a pirate as soon as he was a Slayer and learned all he could about piracy.

So he became a freebooter, reclaiming wrecks and attacking Destruction races or any asshole pirates. He sells back anything he reclaims so long as they give him a chest full of gold, its up to you to decide literally if what you lost is worth its weight in gold; Drong doesn't care if what he gives you back is more valuable, its about honor and restoring to other captains lost cargo like he wishes he could do for himself.

He has a full-on diver team for reclaiming, the kind the new AoS Dwarfs actually look like. The rest of the crew are Slayers like himself.

Well, thanks for the compliment. GW used to be really good about keeping things flexible and leaving plenty of room and ideas for interesting stories. Or maybe it was the fanbase that changed, with more ideas about what can't work or wouldn't be possible, I don't know.

Either way, there used to be a lot of good stories that played with how things could work, or how hardline ideas were worked around. That's something I love about Bretonnia, personally - their system is so strict and stupid that in many ways it's not feasible, so there's a lot of looking the other way, technicalities, and edging as close to breaking the law as possible, and many other stupid but fun things. It gives you a lot of moments where you can go 'how can I make this idea work?'
>>

Not in every way. Halfling PCs will start with 10 more fellowship than characters of the other species so if you want to make a 'party face' then Halflings are the way to go. They also start with a good Ballistic skill so equipping one with a ranged weapon will allow the player to contribute in a fight. They also start off bilingual with Academic Knowledge and a far larger variety of skills than other species. They also start out with resistance to chaos which means they can safely juggle warpstone (or at least, not mutate, they'll still suffer 2nd and 3rd degree burns). Going by raw combat stats, they are quite weak but as WHFRP is a Roleplaying game, they will be helpful in social interactions and non-combat utility.

I'm glad someone understands this. Pic related is one of the best art styles in Warhammer for me, along with the works of Adrian Smith and a few others. Dark, detailed, gritty and filled with more than just carbon copies of the models. Some of the artwork really inspired me to convert and customize my stuff since the art was cool, but there was no real GW model for it.

The new art style looks a little cartoony. It just doesn't draw me in.

I know, right? Some of the concept art had some beautiful ideas for models, but also for bits of things that probably would rarely show up on the tabletop. I'm biased towards Bretonnia, so some of my favorites show civilians or artisan monks, but there's also some great stuff for other factions.

I agree completely with you buddy.
I remember when I was young and imagined whole stories behind each and everyone of these old style art works.
The only new ones I've seen that are even vaguely comparable would be pic related (with the lovely addition that not every warrior depicted is a carbon copy of a model) and that sigmarine one where you can see a couple of Sigmarines surrounded by allied flagellants painted in a resemblence of the old artwork.

Then again
>>
My favorite artwork have to be this one.

It not only depicts my favorite faction (Warriors of Nurgle) but the focus of the work lies not on the battle (which takes place in the background) but on some kind of religious ritual in which a Champion of Nurgle, surrounded by acolytes of Nurgle, is making his way through the Chaos Horde.

John Blanche is one of the more well-known artists of the Warhammer franchise, and that really is his main power - he's recognizable, well known and mostly beloved. His art isn't perfect - even he admits that he prefers to be sketchier and faster with his hard to make it less wooden - but it's almost synonymous with the franchise. I tend to think John when I think of Warhammer, over artists I prefer more!

If I recognize that artist right, that's the artist for Requiem. He does great work - the series is fantastic and I've read it several times. But it also very, very distinct from John Blanche. I'm not artist, and I haven't Requiem in a while, but I remember it being grossly ornate and detailed, whereas Blanche seems to prefer blank backgrounds, or allow large amounts of detail to fade into the background a bit. Blanche feels evocative and exciting - there's a lot of movement and expression most of the time, even without much detail on the faces. Colors are often muted browns or greys or whites, which allows the colors like reds and yellows and blacks to stand out - whereas Requiem's artist seems to prefer brighter, starker colors that will contrast or complment each other. His details and lines seem crisper, but that also looks a bit of the fluidity - those two pieces especially look rather posed, but I remember Requiem feeling a little bit stiff. Also, he used a lot of reds and blacks - probably because the story was set in hell, but it did begin to blur together.

I'm sad that most of my miniatures folder is 40k related. I still like 40k enough that I can enjoy looking at WIPs or beautifully painted models, but I wish I had more in the way of WFB miniatures. I don't know if it was that they were unpopular or that I skipped over what showed up, or what.

40k had the boom from vidya, when internet sharing of conversions was more of a thing.

But its not hard to find Fantasy. Every army site has a gallery.

>>
reee prince of altdorf why are you only in the collector's edition
>>

It means that if both players agree then they shouldn't be afraid to tinker with the rules if they think it will make a game more fun, also stuff like letting a story dictate aspects of a battle and coming up with names and a story for your army.

To reiterate, it's GW actually having to explain to people that they're playing a game and supposed to be enjoying themselves and that deviating from the official rules is not a mortal sin.

Unbound was part of this as well. It was GW saying that it's fine if you want to have a battle using an army or armies that don't follow any rules regarding construction.

man I absolutely loved the set of mousillon inspired bretonnians, it really hooked me when I saw pictures of it years ago to the setting, Infact so much so that I ended up being a whole lot more interested in the setting. So obviously I ended up making a mod to replicate them in tw:w.
I ended up playing empire anyway on the tt with almost no regrets but a part of me wishes I had something just a little spookier
>>
>>52435031
Fortunately mods exist. I have faith that they'll put in most every unit (gimme Stegadon) and if they don't have it it'll be stuck in.

>>
>>52447144
This. Someone's already got a Tomb Kings mod going, and it's pretty excellent so far. Doesn't have its own campaign yet, but you can purchase the units through a VC playthrough.
>>
>>52447233
Its main job of Lahmians, Von Carsteins and Blood Dragons could, Strigoi and Necrarch are too ugly and busy.
>>
i have recently played my 5th game of 9th age. I play empire. Am i a terrible person for enjoying 8e more ? its seems so much more fun. 9th overly complicates magic and just manages to not fix most problems that 8e had. It seems so... I dont know, artificial ? like we wanted to make a better game but didnt take any chances. I will try next week 6e as many of you say it the best. I first started playing with 6e but it was a long time ago an i remeber very little. Also the Steam Tank sucks ass in 9th age.
>>
>>52444889

No.

But your opinions are based on how your army performs using your existibg netlist for 8e, as opposed to the internal and external balance of T9A and 6e.
>>
>>52447627
Ulrika's "grandmother" (sire of her sire) fucks her human guards and feeds on them producing a euphoria and dreamlike loyalty.
She later has to calm down an important Nuln noble who's vampire wife was killed. He's fat and insists all vampires are evil other than his pure waifu, she fucks him to calm him down until he can be assigned another wife by Neferata and is generally disgusted by him since he likes her warrior fucktoys.
There's a former child prostitute turned into the pet of Ulrika's vampgranny's political rival. This loli flirts with Ulrika openly and is clearly in a /ll/ relationahip with her mistress.
Vampires who fuck, feed. When they mix blood they gain traits of each other's bloodlines and as a result try to stay "pure" and the Lahmian in charge of the brothel is low rank because she fucked a Strigoi and can turn into animals lile oldschool Dracula because of it.

That's just in the first book.

Elven, I'm almost completely certain there were. Dwarven...I dunno. I'm wracking my brain, trying to remember if there were, but I don't know for sure. The Gotrek & Felix novels, for instance, covered a shitload of topics and enemies, and I don't think they ever came to that point.

You might like this mod that I was recommended then:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=842895473

It ended up not being the mod for me, because despite actually adding Black Grail Knights (fuck yeah), it also added too many normal humans. It's not that I think that all vampire units shouldn't be treated as living - the Ghouls and Crypt Horrors should be two notable exceptions, and it's a little silly how Necromancers are treated as undead with Binding as well - but they have almost no skeletons or zombies, and feel less undead as much as a cursed living dukedom.

There is no Black Library book that isn't questionable canon after the reveal of how their novels are written during End Times.

Anyone in here still angrymad about the end times: You cannot destroy a fictional setting.

You can't destroy something that's fictional.

People are still playing WHFB like nothing ever happened. Hell, I know some people who play AoS using the Old World as their setting (honestly it does kinda work well for fast skirmish games).

That said, which WHFB novel is one of the best and why is it pic related?

>>
>>52450679
>>52450687

Well... finding an unopened box is like asking for gold dust I imagine.

There are a few painted ones on eBay that you could strip?

Here's 22 for £15:

I remember when the Lion King came out and kids at school would go around punching people. When they were challenged about it, they'd just do an impression of Rafiki saying 'don't worry about it, it's all in the past'.

It's like sure, ok, the GW police didn't come round to my house and burn my books. But that doesn't mean the whole situation isn't a complete shitfest.
So I'm going to continue being pissed at GW for being terrible even though they don't owe me anything.
>>
>>52450795

It's all just been a huge shitfest for everyone.

No new content for WHFB

GW didn't see the rise in sales they wanted.

AoS fans will be disappointed in 5 years when it happens to them.
>>
>>52449827
The setting isn't destroyed, but the community that once played in it is irreparably fractured. There isn't even an agreement on how WFB should now be played.

As for novels, I'm just not all that well read on them. I prefer the short story anthologies overall anyway. But the Gotrek and Felix novels are hard to argue against, especially since they have plenty of good lore tidbits.
>>
>>52450792
That's true and thanks... For some reason I'm really bad at finding stuff online? I mean I checked ebay UK. Guess I'm a retard in general or my peripheral vision is poor whilst scrolling through the pages or something.

I suppose I might get a box of the modern ones for some parts and bits as well, but it'd have to be from a private third party seller so GW doesn't get any additional shekels from me.
>>
>>52450882
