If the Emperor isn't """"technically""" a god, by the rules of the setting he is de facto a god because he is functionally identical to one, and possesses the psychic might to solo any singular other god outright.

That's the whole reason Chaos works together to fight him and consider him the single-biggest threat to their existence - the Emperor can kill any one of them, but he can't kill ALL of them, and if they kill the Emperor then there is nothing to stop one Chaos God (most likely Khorne, but maybe Tzeentch or possibly even Slaanesh) from becoming unstoppable and killing the other three.
