You're literally only getting interceptor against units that arrive withing 12" of Coteaz and whatever unit he's joined so it's not nearly as useful as you think. His re-rollable seize is really the only real benefit.

Personally I'd keep the knight to give your opponent something other than your skitarii to shoot at for a few turns. Don't forget they get a 4++ from their ion shields, yea it's directional but it's not hard so long as you position the knight with even a bit of thought.

Look at all this non vehicle shit that has Objective Secure now!

Torquemada Coteaz is mandatory in this formation.
>>
I love Orks.

But

I don't love their rules.

I doubt 8th could make them worse than they already are.
>>
>>52428188
Except he's not taking Castellans, he's taking a Skitarii maniple with Coteaz as an ally. He'll need another HQ unit before he can even take Castellans.
>>
How viable would CSM terminators with all lightning claws be?
>>
>>52428188
What's this "free wargear" bullshit I hear about the Castellans detachment?
Am I the only one who thinks that being able to mix factions freely like this is stupid?
>>
>>52428199

Even if it makes us worse, our position at the bottom of the tiers doesn't change. If it makes other armies even worse, we improve. If we get better rules, we improve.

8th quite literally can't make us worse. We either maintain the status quo, or get better.
>>
>>52428222
You apparently can't hear, the Castellans doesn't give free wargear. You're thinking of the AdMech War Convocation.
>>
In the hellrain formation am i allowed to upgrade the commissar to a lord commissar?
>>
>>52428222
Confusing it with really broken shit as war combo and marine free transports.

In Castellans you pay for everything. The formation is basically a massive double CAD.

On that case he is retarded. A normal inquisitor will do and then add 18 point psykers from Inquisition codex.
>>
>>52428227

Never mind then. Those two sound the same to me. I wish 8th went back to a single force org chart and an allied org chart.

This is just a really shitty version of Vraks Renegades: Unending Host that lets your infantry squads that number 15 or greater come back to the board outflanking on a roll of 2+ with bonus movement.

Taken with a renengade baneblade all of your units get zealot anyway.

I don't think the resurrected units even give VP.

I'm excited for it, but at the same time I'm worried that it will be super unbalanced.

The group I play with tends to gravitate towards trying to stop other players from having fun instead of playing for fun.
>>
>>52428494
Well, it makes sense, there's only a certain amount of fun in the world, and you want to stockpile as much as you can for yourself, so you really should try to stop others from having fun as much as you can so you can have more fun later with your stockpiled fun. Life is war.
>>

Necromunda, Mordheim, Blood Bawl, Battlefleet Gothic, where never balanced.

Balance in GW was never a thing, because it was never meant to be play at tournament setting.

Yeah, the best way to get your friends to keep playing the game is to spam the most unfun to fight units and factions against them!

Friendship is a lie enforced by the government to attempt to make us better sheep. Men are not pack animals, we are apex predators and should comport ourselves as such.
>>
>>52427982
unless you're doing it for fluff reasons I'd be inclined to switch the infantry missiles for Heavy Bolters or Auto Cannons and replace the Heavy Bolter weapon team with Lascannons or Missile launchers. That should give you a better chance of actually hurting your targets without wasting orders and firepower.
I'd also scratch the plasma guns on the PCSs and replace with flamer, grnade launcher or heavy weapons team. Use the left over point to give another special weapon to your scions (I'd go two melta)

>>
>>52428572
You're either an idiot or a troll.
They look out for people like you, especially people that are new. You have to build a report before you even think of doing something like that. They assume people they've never seen before are there to steal.
I went to a GW for more than a decade and the redshirts/blackshirts all stole. They gave me around 30k points of 40k/Fantasy. The only reason this ever worked was because the inventory system for GW is/was so fucking stupid. They never inventoried anything aside from the last product, meaning they would have to order more. You can take mental inventory of shit that has no reason being bought but in a small store like that you can count on them keeping tabs. They'll keep tabs on what you come in with and what you leave with. If you have a school bag that you didn't open the entire time you were in there they WILL assume you're stealing.
Stop being a fucking idiot and get a job. At the very least "steal" from GW directly by purchasing recasts, not an LGS.

>>

IIRC the Crimson Path suggests that Abbadon is waiting for he Eye of Terror to expand closer to Terra to get all of the logistical and esoteric tactical advantages, otherwise the Imperium would just wither his crusade to dust. The only reason why they got to Macragge is because Abbadon sent them there to stop Guilliman's return.

I don't think it would be that bad if:

1. Their saves aren't rerollable.

2. They don't get free movement. It makes sense for a tank to ignore dangerous terrain but a bike shouldn't. If anything it should be MORE dangerous to them.

3. You can jink to ONE thing. You don't get to jink to EVERYTHING. So it requires some thought instead of, "Oh they're shooting at me? I'll just jink everything this round."
>>
I'm thinking about collection Mechanicum as a second army, starting as a allied force. What unit should I get first?

Wasn't old Mach Daddy a very capable small scale tactican as well? I swear he utterly shamed the living shit out of some DE and all but crushed them.
>>
>>52428353
Okay step 1.
take a unit of Custodes guardian Squad.
Step 2.
Nominate the Shield Captain as your General.
Step 3.
Start rolling dice to determine game time and deployment, because step 2 was all you needed. Though likely you will need to fill out points by adding more custodians or custard dreadnoughts or anything like that.

Though there's a certain level of random number input that can't be stopped, a really top-tier Navigator with an Archaeotech Spire and interface with a small council of assistants can usually get to places faster and safer than the average Nobilite Scion.

From what we've seen, the guys seem to be keen on helping out assault/CC armies. It's been known for a long time that shooting armies are advantaged. I don't see them pushing that way by making them even better while also tring to help CC armies.

Despite every idiot with no idea of how tanks work claiming the leman Russ is a Mark V with a turret in top, the leman russes closest real-life contemporary is the Char 1 Bis. Note the Char 1 has a turret and a hull mounted gun just like any Russ variant, but a Mark V has neither such weapon; instead relying entirely on sponsons which many leman russes don't even take. Also note that while all three tanks have tracks looping over the entire body, only the Mark V's tracks are sloped all the way forward. The Char and Russ both have their front most track runners double back in themselves inhibiting their ability to cross trenches.

The chimera is much more generic, but could be called a space BMP that holds way more infantry then it has any right too. The artillery pieces are compatible to any self-propelled howitzer from ww2

Hey, seriously, why are the Sororitas always corrupted by Slaanes?
Both fanworks and canon depictions have the rare fallen Sororitas fall for Slaanesh.
Are the Sisters of Battle easier prey for Slaanesh?
Perhaps due to their emphasis on their body form, with armor that is made to evoke the female form, or maybe their rituals could lead to Slaanesh corruption, even if they don't have any kind sexual ritual (which I think some of them do) they still could be corrupted through more common self-mortification rituals.
If their faith fails them for a momment and they lose the Emperor's protection, Slaanesh would easily get them be it through pleasure or through pain, even both

It would be interesting to see them fall for Tzeentch or Khorne, or even, Emperor have mercy on us, see them fall for Nurgle.
Chaos undivided would be also interesting.

Thinking of starting a new army, still not a super experienced player. I was thinking of Tau or Grey Knights.

Is a Paladin based Grey Knight army with Drago any good? I hear that they also don't require a lot of models, that's a selling point for me.
How hard is it to build a Tau army and is the "Start Collecting" set worth getting? Are spamming riptides the only way to make a strong Tau army? I'm not a fan of spamming big models.

I started with Eldar and I was incredibly overwhelmed with all my options before I built my army around aspect warriors. I like my Eldar but my club already has a lot of them and I don't know if I really enjoy them that much. Finally how hard are GK and Tau to paint? I don't get a lot of time to paint.
>>
Asked a thread or two ago but interested in some more thoughts.

I want to run some Tau allies for my Orks for friendly games (where we ignore ally chart and such) pretty much just to be able to run rail rifle broadsides (honestly my favorite looking model in the game). Keeping in mind they're going to be used for my Ork allies mostly, is it better to give them the plasma rifles or just keep the smart missile system (would probably magnetize them anyway, but still)?

p.s. Is it worth it to give them the full compliment of missile drones?

p.p.s What kind of support systems should I use? I know fuck all when it comes to building Tau except what the rules let them bring. I haven't even played against one.

Competitively? Not since 5e, which makes me sad. It was both fluffy and could hit the table.

It's not "hard", you simply need to understand you will have to get a variety of models, they are a very combined arms type of army.
>Are spamming riptides the only way to make a strong Tau army?
No, that's memery. Riptide/Stormsurge spam make people want to not play you, and you can still have a competitive army without either of them.

>>
>>52430458
Plasma might be better overall for going after similar targets to the rifle. It suffers for range, but you don't really want to be shooting the rail rifle and smart missiles at the same sort of targets.

Missile drones are very nice for their points, though they can inflate the price of the squad. They're better for missilesides, but its still a steal compared to any of the other drones.

Support systems are trickiee, but for broadsides there are some clearer options. Stim injectors are nice to supplement the armor and whatever cover you stick them in. The precision shot system can be nice on a Shas'vre to be sniping models on a 5 or 6.

How who got to the planet?

Eldar sent the orks there as a distraction so they could steal the maguffin and were taken there by dark eldar using the Webway. The Dark eldar have been trading tryanids with a local black merchant for years in exchange for pit slaves.

An inquisitor has been investigating cult activity with rumors about a strange maguffin. Meanwhile, the cultists have found the maguffin and started summoning daemons with the help of a dark benefactor. The benefactor is a CSM sorcerer looking for the maguffin and opens a portal bringing his friends so they can begin extracting the maguffin due to the timely Ork attack above.

We're not dealing with massive numbers here.

Missile Drones are autocannons that double as extra padding for your Broadsides. Take them. Personally I stick with the Smart Missile System, since it has Ignores Cover, can fire out of line-of-sight, is twin-linked and has craploads of S5 shots. Spend 5 points per model on Early Warning Override for your support systems to give them Interceptor, and keep your 'Sides in the middle of your line. The 30" range on their Intercepting smart missile systems is great for discouraging deepstriking infantry, and their Rail Rifles will shit all over light armour. Think of it like a TL meltagun with 60" range, without the Melta rule.

At least if I play against him, I can light up his Ghostkeels with markerlights for Ignores Cover and put a Hammerhead round into each one. No FnP, instant death. As for the Riptides...I have six deep-striking fusion suits that could put the hurt on, as well as three rail rifle Broadsides. Yeah, he'll still get FnP, but I think I've got a pretty good chance of killing one Riptide the turn those Suits arrive. Twelve fusion blasters aren't to be fucked with.

You are bitching about this now, but that was around for almost 10 years, maybe more depending on codex.
Drop pod armies have been around for 4 editions, and chumps like you are crying about them now because... why, exactly?
Worse, you are acting like drop pod assault is a good enough reason to have a unit that shits on all deepstriking armies by existing, back when people soundly admitted that DH Sages were cheese.

First, you've got a 2/3 chance to scatter at all. Second, the drop pod will reduce scatter a minimum distance if it would mishap, meaning you won't scatter super far onto a unit or wall. Third, the marines get to pile out 6" afterwards, meaning that even with a 12 scatter, you're only 6 inches from where you wanted to be.

Not only that, but scouts with located beacons are cheap

If I were you, I'd steer clear of the Stim Injectors on the Broadsides. Hear me out. FnP is cancelled out by Instant Death. Most weapons that are AP2 are S8 or S9, meaning if your Broadside gets hit by a meltagun or a lascannon, you don't get that FnP. You're better off with the Shield Generator (don't, because it is way too expensive). If you want FnP, you can always park your Ethereal near your Broadsides and give them 6+ FnP for free. Yeah it's worse, but a 5+ is shit to begin with. If you take Interceptor you're also potentially preventing that shithead drop-podding Dreadnought from shooting your 'Side on the back and vaping him in one hit. Interceptor makes everybody think twice.

>>
>>52431080
Legit. Before I started this Tau army I ran Carcharodons as a full drop-pod army, and brought two Gravcent squads. They are terrifying. Recently I started sticking Librarians in the squads and rolling on Divination, for that sweet, sweet Prescience and whatever the power is that grants Ignores Cover. Twelve SMS shots hitting six centurions is going to do maybe one unsaved wound, and the railguns might do two, but that combo will make meltacide squads like Chaos Raptors and drop-podding Dreadnoughts shit bricks.
>>
>>52430987
So what you're telling me is the scatter is minimum, but the other anon said

>perfectly accurate drop pod

minimum scatter isn't the same as "perfectly accurate"

Take a Webway Portal for example:
> If a model with a webway portal is in Reserves or Ongoing Reserves, then the model and any unit it has joined or is embarked upon has the Deep Strike special rule. This model, and his unit, will not scatter if arriving from Deep Strike Reserve.

You mentioned Scouts, but they only get Teleport Homers, but those only work for Terminators.

Now that is perfectly accurate. So again I ask, how is he getting "perfectly accurate" drop pods.
>>
>>52431144

Imagine if you tripled the cost of heavy Bolter Devastators, clipped 6 inches off their range and basically all you got out of it was a durability boost.

Drop Pods with locator beacons can bring others in the next turn without rolling for scatter 6" from the hull. I used it a lot, just threw beacons on every one of my seven pods and used the four on the first turn to make a rough 24" bubble where my subsequent pods and termies could land on turn 2.

Nice explanation there, but I don't think that their lack of those traits is keeping them from corruption, it is their absurdly high faith.

Their faith allows them to make blood rain in the battlfield and not turn to Khorne.

It allows them to outsmart and deceive noble houses without getting touched by Tzeentch.

It allows them to face the worst the universe can give them without despair dragging them to Nurgle.

It even protects them from the whispers of Slaanesh every time they indulge in penitent self-mortification and in whatever tantric exercises some of them may do.

The Emperor Protects.

So after some fluff reading I've decided I might want a small Minotaurs army as a sideline along with my Inquisition, because I like the idea of Space Marines doing their jobs as attack dogs. I've never played either a Space Marine or an assaulty army before, despite my tendency to stick Sicarians into my Mechanicus. What are must-haves and things to avoid, and what's particularly fluffy for them? From what I gather they're more the sledgehammer heavy vehicle and Terminator assault than the Blood Angels elegant Jetpack swooping, so a Land Raider Redeemer? If I get the Calth set, Moloc and his chaplain friend to start with, what supplements that well?

I would ask my SM friend, but he plays Lamenters, so I kind of want to keep this secret and challenge him to 1.5k someday, bring Malakim. Then drop the brass boys on the table.

I think his problem is with drop-pods carrying absurd amounts of firepower provided by the Centurions, and having it land on your flank then vaporizing a squad without the means to counter or prevent it. Three Broadsides could barely kill a Centurion and half, statistically. They have laughable firepower compared to the centurion alpha strike, and are basically dead the moment it hits the table.

I adapt my sequence depending on my opponent. If I see he's got anti-tank everywhere, I send the Dreadnoughts in turn 2 and drop the Centurions and Tacticals turn one. Usually it's two Venerable dreadnoughts with heavy flamers, multimeltas and powerfists as well as the two grav-centurion squads I will drop on turn one. That extra thirty points for beacons for the other pods is absolutely worth it if it means avoiding dropping my Dreadnoughts into certain death.

Sicarans are damn near auto-take for me. I run two, with a techmarine to make it legal. (relic of the armoury) If you want to bring assaulty units, bring something that will get them across the field. I've run a deepstriking blob of SS/TH assault termies quite often, but you have to go either ten man or none at all. You can expect at least half of them to die in your opponent's shooting phase, and possibly all of them if you're not giving them more targets than the sitting duck blob that just arrived. Still, it's hard to beat a Spartan for that 25 man capacity, and four TL Lascannon shots. Bring one and the Sicarans for the 3 HS slots of one CAD, a combo of Landraiders/Vindicators for a second CAD and fill the gaps with marine squads either in rhinos or in the LRs/Spartan.

Literally every release they have ever had has been overpowered.

> 2nd Edition
Warp Spiders > your army
> 3rd Edition
Massed Starcannons
> Craftworlds
Massed BS4 Starcannons, Alaitoc tables
> 4th Edition
Clown car Holofalcons and Eldrad

The only time they have ever been not top-tier, and coincidentally the only time they didn't get a new book
> 6th Edition

Fuck Eldar.
Eldar being hard-to-play is the longest running meme in 40k.

I dont like the marker drones on the troops. They shoehorn your big squad into needing to shoot at what you want marked.

Consider dropping the drones, splitting the squad into two and adding the support turret so you have some ignores cover that reaches out to 36 when you're rifles aren't in range?

Pretty good setup, yeah. I don't know about the Castellans because I haven't looked at Gathering Storm yet, but as long as you can take FW units it it should be fine. If you want extra anti-tank, take minimum five-man Tactical squads and give them Razorbacks with TL Las as transport. Stick a Melta or Plasma gun in the tac squads so they can useful without the Razorbacks. Fill the Spartan with SS/TH Termies and Moloc, and chuck either assault marines or more termies in the LR. Sit your Sicarans on the back lines, make sure they have Las sponsons and armoured ceramite, and just pump shots downrange as you charge forward with the tank line. Send the Razorbacks to camp midfield objectives, get the Vindicators up near their deployment line if they deploy against the table edge, and just sit there shooting everything while you slam the LRs and Spartan down their throat. Keep the assault units close, so they can support each other. Do not let your opponent isolate your units. Keep the Vindicators and Spartans covered with the Sicarans, and use the Vindicators to keep the meltas and shit off the LR and Spartan. Faceroll everything with Moloc as he disembarks.
>>
>>52431849
Technically 2 kinds and 1 transport. Sisters of Silence is technically a seperate army.
They are intended to be mixed in with other imperials, either as the leaders of them (they have their own warlord trait table) or just helping them out. So like you might have some inquisition, then take one or two squads of custodes or have your tempestus scions lead by custodes or whatever i don't know. Think of them a bit like assassins?
>>
>>52431830
They sent the notice out early on accident. It's going live in an hour or so.
>>
>>52431849
More or less.
Custodes have 3 units
>Custodes, Dreadnought, and Land Raider

All three have a 5++

Personally I'd probably use them as an allied force, but all Custodes and Dreadnoughts have Deep Strike. So if you wanted pure, could do a Raider or two and Deep Strike the rest.

Hmm...maybe make it so only models with melee weapons listed under their gear can sweep, and limit it so that they can only kill a number of models equal to the combined attack stat of the unit?

That would solve situations where a single captain sweeps through 30 Ork boyz, as well as cases where some Guardians get lucky and manage to sweep a melee squad that fumbled their attacks.

Why would you do this, don't you want to assault stuff?

You cant take extra ccwep with sonic blasters and I like the versatility of the squad this way.
Two blastmasters per squad is plenty of firepower. The extra i5 attacks are far more powerful than extra bolter shots that ignore cover, given sonic blasters are much scarier with shred now. If they had sonic blasters though I couldn't have them assault foolish units that got too close to them.

>>52433813
Because the odds are 100 to 1 you've got two X chromosomes if you're posting in /40kg/

What the hell did I miss? When did I miss it? And Who the hell is this Slaaneshi person with the tat and why should I give 1 fuck, let alone 2? Especially about what equipment they have in their pants. I'm not going to be getting in there anytime so it doesn't matter.

If I stand on my dick I'd be taller than you
Nothing personnel
>>
>>52433778
I get your philosophy, but as a recent SM-to-Tau convert: shooting really is king. Bring like 8 lascannons to the table for tank-popping, plant them behind that gunline and rain hell on whatever is left cowering in their craters with Sonic. You really can't go wrong. Just make sure you buy an Aegis line for your NM.
>>
>>52434341
Yeah but then you'd be standing on your dick, which would hurt

Checkmate
>>
>>52434367
I wear really soft footwear
>>
>>52434392
yeah but youd still have 100+ pounds of weight on your dick
>>
>>52434091
Do you know the difference between a phenotype and genotype?
I-I dont wanna, you're not making me feel pretty or feminine.
>>
>>52434405
Wait a minute....in order to stand on your own dick...while it is still attached to your body would require a dick almost 3 and a half feet long flacid.

Are you sure you aren't a Slaanesh Worshiper? Because that would be one hell of a mutation.
>>
>>52434405
Can handle it, supports your mom just fine
>>
>>52434359
Nawh I dont think shooting is king. I think the meta is just biased towards Tau and Eldar which lean towards shooty.

I have an Aegis but the turret is missing, with my shitty luck Im sure some grognard stole it.
>>
>>52434469
but that weight would be on your hips

Do me a favor, take your dick out and put it on the floor, then drop a 100 pound weight on it.

I'll wait.
>>
>>52434447
>phenotype and genotype
Yes, but apparently you don't
>>
>>52434447
Well if you don't mind me asking, what are they talking about, and what pictures are they referencing. I would love to know what they are talking about, and to see your pretty face.
>>
>>52434486
don't you have a couple dozen bits lying around? make a turret

>>52433888
