Assuming the description is literally just "Negate the effect of a magic card," you should assume so. Most cards are probably going to be more clear with terms like "during the turn this card is activated" or shit like that.

I'm pretty sure most or all cards that negate Spell/Trap say "Negate the effect, then destroy that card", or something along those lines.
Basically just destroying something like pot of greed is a waste because the effect activates instantly and sends itself to the graveyard

I think the duels go way to fast to be actually interesting most of the time, though, and your deck isn't going to be that consistent most of the time unless you build around something like pushing out as many no-tribute beatsticks as possible.

Archetypes can feel restrictive on paper, but they are still very splashable. Most modern decks use 3-4 different archetypal engines, with one usually being the core strategy of the deck.
The important reason that archetypes exist is as a gate for specific cards/combos. The more generic a card is, the more powerful it is, and the more likely it is to be meta-defining and banned out. If you make a set of cards that all work off of each other you can easily manage that combo by limiting how splashable they are or by gimping one combo-starting card rather than a boss monster.

It's funny how wrong you are.
Cards modifying the rules will always be better than mechanics modifying rules because it leaves a core ruleset that new players can easily understand. Plus it requires that players actually READ THE FUCKING CARDS once then know how it works. Not to mention keywords leave no room for nuance.
But please, continue enjoying a game where all floaters and searchers work exactly the same while you keep repeating to the new guy what "Flash" or "Reach" means.

>Cards modifying the rules will always be better than mechanics modifying rules because it leaves a core ruleset that new players can easily understand. Plus it requires that players actually READ THE FUCKING CARDS once then know how it works.
That's literally what MtG does
>Not to mention keywords leave no room for nuance.
But they do? Keywords save card space so you can add other, unique effects while having the card be pretty clear and concise.
>But please, continue enjoying a game where all floaters and searchers work exactly the same
But they don't, floaters and searchers have variable restrictions that must be paid attention to. Flash and Reach will always work the same in every single instance ever because it's a static ability.

You really didn't think this post through.
>>
>>52420699
YuGiOh has a wider variety in mechanics and builds per iteration compared to Magic, but Magic's more refined in its mechanics rather than trying to do something too different with them.
>>
>>52421313
>That's literally what MtG does
Except it doesn't. If you have to add a glossary of keywords to your rulebook just to play then you don't have a tight core ruleset that can be picked up easily. I have plenty of experience with teaching new players wargames to confirm that keywords slow things down.
>But they do? Keywords save card space so you can add other, unique effects while having the card be pretty clear and concise.
You're not saving much space if you have to write in specific clauses just to keep things interesting. Plus problem-solving card text exists to keep card effects concise while also allowing for variety.
>But they don't, floaters and searchers have variable restrictions that must be paid attention to. Flash and Reach will always work the same in every single instance ever because it's a static ability.
Restrictions to make up for the fact that everything works the same way is SOOO much better then having restrictions AND card effects working differently. And once again, static abilities and keywords fucking suck because it's easier to point at the specific text of a card than to have to remind a new player what that specific ability does.
>>
>>52421469
>And once again, static abilities and keywords fucking suck because it's easier to point at the specific text of a card than to have to remind a new player what that specific ability does.
This shouldn't be a problem unless you're playing against literal goldfish dude. That's like telling someone that you have to remind them how Synchro summons work every game. Once you learn basic as hell game mechanics it's going to stick.
>Plus problem-solving card text
Is a bandaid on a thermal vent. Granted part of YGO's problem is that they like to cram multiple, long-winded effects and restrictions on individual cards anyway. Situations like those are best alleviated with keywords anyway.
>>
>>52420724
It can't be. They had brief periods of tier 2-3 success with Rock Stun and that one FireFist/Koa'ki meiru hybrid.
>>
>>52421632
>Once you learn basic as hell game mechanics it's going to stick
Except that keywords can be added to or removed from the game with each new set. That's something that's not static enough to be considered a core mechanic and many pre-packaged rulebooks don't even explain most of those keywords.
>Situations like those are best alleviated with keywords anyway
You show me three MtG cards that use keywords to differentiate between "when this card is destroyed by battle and sent to the graveyard," "when this card is destroyed by card effect," and "when this card leaves the field by an opponent's card effect."

YGO only has two keywords, "piercing" damage and "excavate"
They work well, so there is no excuse for implementing more keywords

Are Predaplants not good enough to see play? I wanna play fusions
>>

I think they will be decent in link meta
>>

They are pretty good. Not as good as Invoked or Fluffals, but still good.

Yugioh is a god awfully designed game.

I play it casually with some friends cause it can still be fun sometimes but the rampant complexity in the game is going to be the death of it.
>>
>>52422321
Why is that?
>>
>>52422337
usually they have only one extra deck monster out and they can bring back plants cheaply and sacrifice them for links
But I am just speculating

So did toon monsters ever get bolstered with anything or were they just left in the dust? I had a Toon Ryu Ran and Summoned Skull and a few other of the silly looking cards I assumed fit in with them, but never did get a Toon World Card
>>
>>52422382
They got a much better Toon World and a decent engine in Toon Red-Eyes and Toon Dark Magician. They still suck pure because of the summoning sickness.
>>
>>52422433
Yeah figured.

Three with banish.
>>
>>52422433
What changed about Toon World?
>>
>>52422578
Banish is basically destroy now that returning banished things is a possibility but it goes to the banished zone instead of the graveyard so I don't really consider it a keyword
