Meme colors edition

Playing?

Hating?

Building?

Any cards you think might be sleepers like traverse?

In your opinion what's the most retarded ban WotC could do for the "health" of the format?

DO you think that Sultai, Esper and Mardu(lol) will ever be playable color combinations?

What's the worst "Ban X" you've seen?

Any cards you wish were more viable or modern playable?

>g2 he has all the gravehate and removal on my enablers. i just grapeshot his shadow and then when he has exiled all my graveyard, cast madcap experiment and get platinum emperion ftw

This is why playing storm is fun
>>
>>52384939
>DO you think that Sultai, Esper and Mardu(lol) will ever be playable color combinations?
Sultai I doubt. Not unless it gets outside the typical Jund/Junk style, because trapped in that vein it's just some janky "tempo" version of the deck.
Esper has potential. Good removal access, best anti-removal, it's just that they don't have a good way to get damage in outside of a combo.
Mardu has the same problems as Esper, and none of the upsides. It's a pile of removal and no beaters.

>cards you wish were more viable or modern playable?
WotC printed one or two decent blue cards in Kaladesh. Take into Custody is the cheapest instant speed version of that effect. If they'd pushed Select for Inspection more, by replacing Scry with card draw, then we might have had something else.
Reflector Mage also could have been pushed more. It would be nice as a 2-drop, either with a worse body or as an Instant. Getting banned in Standard means WotC is afraid of the idea, unfortunately, so we'll have to wait five years for another try.
>>
>>52384939
>DO you think that Sultai, Esper and Mardu(lol) will ever be playable color combinations?
Does R/W burn with a black splash for Bump in the Night count as Mardu?
>>
>>52385183
I think you can splash collective brutality, it's very good in the mirror
>>
>>52385183
No

hope you're playing eidolon now
>>
>>52385156
Storm is for self-congratulatory faggots who think they're hot shit for piloting one of the most "skill intensive" decks in the format when really it is one of the most linear, only being outmatched by Ad Nauseam and Living End
>>
>>52385229
I actually saw his post the other day and decided to start working on a non-retarded version of his list. 4-of Eidolon is obviously a must.
>>52385202
That sounds super spicy. CB is easily my favorite black card in the format. Think it deserves mainboard slots?

Don't normally do the survey, but here we go

>Playing?
Burn.

>Hating?
The influx of other Burn players at the lgs. I have to dedicate 6 sideboard slots to the mirror and it's just annoying.

>Building?
Nothing right now. Thought about Storm before, but now I'm toying with the idea of Soul Sisters. I don't want to be a little bitch, but I kinda want to troll the other Burn players.

>Any cards you think might be sleepers like traverse?
Not that I know of.

>In your opinion what's the most retarded ban WotC could do for the "health" of the format?
Probably LoK or Thoughtsieze.

>DO you think that Sultai, Esper and Mardu(lol) will ever be playable color combinations?
Maybe. I'm hoping Amonkhet can give us some spicy tech, but realistically Modern will probably be dead before BUG can be good.

>What's the worst "Ban X" you've seen?
A Stormfag last Friday got really salty after I won off Eidolon two games in a row. He ranted about how it's such a bullshit card and how it's unhealthy for the format. Eventually he stormed out of the shop.
>>
>>52385336

Is Chalice needed for Eldrazi Tron? Are there any substitutes?

Yes, the deck does need chalice to lean on because resolving it shuts down so many decks that it would otherwise just lose to. Such as Burn

Select and Custody are actually really good, they just need a home. Some meme decks with Howling Mine would love the tempo that Custody gives.
There's been a lot of gems lately in terms of pushed, non-typical effects. Overwhelming Denial is a strictlybetter, Kari Zevs is an Act of Treason with upside, Wrangle is a 2cmc variant (I want to see this vs Death's Shadow, you either clear a Goyf and make a huge swing or kill a Shadow)
Invasive Surgery/Whispers of Emrakul/Ishkanah have potential, every planeswalker has been a decent powerlevel, and I think if it gets memed hard enough something like Lord Gonti is powerful enough to see play.

I just don't trade with any real frequency anymore. I got rid of anything under $20, which leaves me with nothing more than a deckbox of stuff to trade.

It's not worth your time sitting there and haggling with these fucking people. When all you have is good shit they can only offer good shit; they can't fuck around when your stack is nothing but $20+ dollar bills.

People haven't asked me to trade in months. They know they can't offer shit and it doesn't waste my time or their time. Fucking sharks stay away too because it's very obvious I know how to value my shit.

The worst people are the ones who want to trade for a staple and whip out a pile of like 30 $2 rares then get pissed off when you tell them no.

I'm not a fucking NPC in an MMO, you can't just offload your trash to me and trade up for my good shit. The fuck am I supposed to do with twenty copies of Rishkar's Expertise?
>>
>>52390213
Oh darn, you got my hopes up.
>>
>>52390217
They're just shit people. These people will gladly trade you a dozen pieces of shit for your good thing. But hilariously enough, they never will accept a dozen pieces of your shit for their good thing.

One time I agreed to a trade with a person online. Then when we met to do the trade at FNM he said the price of his cards went up and he wanted more of my stuff. I told him politely to go fuck himself. He retracted his request for more value and I still said no.

The people who make trades online are just the most useless pieces of shit on the planet. Not just in Magic. You say you're looking for something and some dipshit posts saying they wish they had it but they traded it away a week ago. How the fuck does that help me? Am I supposed to feel bad I didn't put out the ask earlier?

The worst people are the people who say they don't have it but they say they can get it. They go through the effort to try and get the card for you to play the middleman and earn some value in the meanwhile instead of telling you who the fuck actually has the card.

Just don't trade anymore. It does nothing but make you hate everyone a bit more.

Every time I see spoilers packed in with the promos I feel like Wizards just shits the bed another time. They can't even get their fucking printers to make sure the wrong shit gets packaged right. It tells you that it's very likely that they don't even test the final product themselves to see if there's anything wrong with it. It's probably fully printed and ready to ship by the time the people in the office get it.

And before someone says it, no, they do not spoil this shit on purpose. It's fucking unprofessional and no manager worth their salt would allow pretend leaks to be policy - because then who knows what the fuck gets out without your authorization.
>>

You're dumb if you think this information wasn't intentionally distributed. This pamphlet had info on upcoming releases and the promos that'd come with it. Obviously they're not supposed to be released, but since when do game store employees give a fuck? The promos are always the first thing to leak minus the seeded 'accidents' that show up in preceding sets.

>>

Ever gotten the chance to play with it?

Scavenging Ooze looks tough on the mana.

Goyfs are always nice and it seems one of the assets Sultai should have over other three color control decks.
I am debating whether to buy 4 Tarmogoyf on mtgo, or if even running Goyfs in Sultai is just shitty Vs Jund

I see lots of goodstuff, but no particular synergy. Is Aether Vial really much good?

It gives the deck a better lategame. At the moment if your opponent doesn't die to the first Living End, you generally lose because their graveyard starts filling up and they start getting things back too. But with this demon, you can get rid of their board through a means that isn't a Living End. It's a line the deck doesn't currently have. And it cycles off any colour mana.

I'm genuinely ceriois about what a "skill intensive" deck is. I'm mean do most all deck just chose a strategy and move from there? The only "skill" you need is some level of problem solving so you can continue with said strategy.

pretty much same as cheeri0s. Majority of the deck is useless but required to enable the useful parts of the deck. Loses to discard. Fun to go off with but inconsistent. Ultimately neat but not highly competitive. At least swans didn't have a bunch of fags pretending it was tier 1 or anything.
>>
>>52385336
>>52392350
Yeah this shit has been on my mind too.
I've had games against Ad Nauseam where it just feels like I'm playing nothing at all.ned if I'm playing my more fair decks.
Storm I recognize as taking logistical kind of skill where you need to be very well practiced with it to recognize the patterns + paths through which you can go off.

Ad Nauseam and Living End (and Restore Balance, for that matter) just feel like they're going through the motions. Gifts decks too btw - the ones that aim to rez an Elesh Norn or Iona to get the opponent blown the fuck out.

It's literally
>counterspell, if any, turns 1-3
>eot Gifts Ungiven for Unburial Rites and gamelocking fatty
>pat self on the back

Granted that's mostly true vs aggro/burn but against any other opponent it just seems to sideboard in whatever fatties provide the equivalent blowout. Having piloted it myself it just seems like the most boring deck ever.
>>
>>52392384
2 card combo that hopes its opponent has no answer and that it actually hits the pieces it wants to hit.

>>52392350
"Skill intensive" in a game like this boils down to decision trees. Legacy is generally considered the most skill intensive format because cards like Brainstorm and Ponder are not only insanely strong, but are cards that force you to make decisions. What do you put back? What order do you put them in? Do you shuffle off Ponder? Lots of these decisions over the course of a game can separate the men from the boys.

Modern lacks this in almost any capacity. Burn players are a flowchart, Affinity players solitaire their opening hand then turn everything sideways from there, Tron players LOL, Jund is all about just playing whatever your deck spits out. The decisions you make in Modern are mostly at the deckbuilding stage, and even then they're only good or bad decisions in hindsight after you've found out what the metagame was like at the event you went to. I don't think there's a single deck in Modern that I'd personally consider to be "skill intensive" for this reason. There's just no decisions to make, everything rolls off the top of your deck.
>>
>>52392456
The only people who don't think storm is difficult are the faggots that got btfo by some nigger with 2 nut draws going off turn 3. The fact of the matter is, playing storm currently through the ass load of removal and discard in the meta right now is actually pretty challenging. But faggots here will disagree with John Finkel.
>>
>>52392496
If Storm could perform well when competently piloted, competent pilots would be playing the deck and performing well.

It's holding both Temur and Sultai back from being good.

Fucking wizards makes shit after shit for that color combination - shitty manland, shitty Kioras, shitty meme deck centerpieces bring to light - why is that name on a non-white card btw?, shit everywhere.

It has to be one of the weakest color combinations around in modern. Is there even a decent deck that is just Green+Blue?
Eternal Command is nice but mostly just a 2 card cheese. Meanwhile infect is dead and was always more mono green aggro combo with a blue splash

Hell, the most interesting thing to happen to do with Green+Blue was to get a multicolor card improved by being made monocolor. See pic.
Disallow got mad hype and fetched something like $8-10 preorder just for not forcing people into a shitty color combination.

Real wedge block when
Real enchantment block when

Wizards didn't intend Theros or Khans blocks as enchantment/wedge themes from initial design. They were mostly incidental.

At the time of Khans release I had a friend who swore by RUG who keenly asked me what name his wedge was given...
...I saw some light die in his eyes when I told him "Temur."

At least I like Sultai just fine.
But we definitely need a real wedge block, none of this single set bullshit we got with Khans that literally gets retconned out of existence by the end of the story.

And with that wedge block, maybe some new names to contend with the existing ones.
Also, perhaps more importantly, more distinct identities than, as you say, Gruul+Blue.

I mean, Maro's Making Magic series explaining the Khans wedges made no fucking sense even he couldn't disguise the shoehorning. "Oh yeah, Abzan is primarily about WHITE. Yeah!..."

What the actual fuck. Pic related I think was everyone's face when they saw those articles.

>>
>>52396201
btw this is to say Khans block was a let down to the Shards parallel expectations people had regarding wedges. The whole 'paradise for the central color' thing being inverted to 'central color + enemies and managing a harmony for some kind of bizzaro shard.'

Instead we got lopsided focuses, where one color among each allied pair is dragging its ally and an enemy along for the ride.
It'd be like before visiting Alara visiting a plane where the 'shards' are aligned focused around one of the two enemy colors comprising it.
So, for instance, Esper isn't actually about blue as much as it is about White.
Jund isn't about red as much as it is about black.
Naya isn't about green, it's about red.
Bant's central color? Yeah that's blue.

It's a neat idea, sure, and the above examples would actually be neat to see realized.
But visiting a twist on the concept before the main concept itself feels like missing a step.

>>52396328
It really did. If it remained with Khans, we would have seen a lot more wedge support, and the clans could have developed. They were most interesting in Khans block, after all.

What do inkmoths taste like?
>>
>>52398198
While this is cool, I'm a bit disappointed the art isn't on some other card that has a life payment.

Because sticking yourself with a bunch of syringes would fucking hurt.
>>
>>52398221
I thought the syringes were extracting serum rather than injecting
Then again i have no idea what an inkmoth looks like, i assumed that was one.
>>
>>52395585
>Seriously why is green/blue so damn shit?
Not enough reactive card advantage or good parity spells at 1-2 mana in either color.

See, something has to fucking die T1 or T2 and U/G just simply can't do that. It can't counter hard enough nor can it shoot something that has resolved. If you were allowed to Preordain on T1, you're probably still going to get fucked. A card like Coiling Oracle just isn't a good enough body anymore. Make it a 2/1 and we can talk. Mystic Snake isn't a good enough body and arguably it wouldn't even see play anymore even if you made it a 3/2 or 2/3 or 3/3 with Snapcaster existing.

You will always be able to cobble together a functional deck using any of the other three colors because they have the best reactionary cards in the format: Hand hate, spot removal, burn. U/G as far as staples goes has Snapcaster, Goyf, and Scavenging Ooze - that list is almost comprehensive. RUG, BUG, Bant, you know the least important colors in those decks are the UG.

Why would you do that? Literally zero reason to do it; they won't waste the shipping on you. The shipping alone is worth more than your card.

It's surprisingly one of the decks that can handle the Infect matchup quite easily.

Faeries can handle Infect, but another tribe already handled them.

>>
>>52400828

Yeah yeah I know Infect is on the decline since the G Probe but mark my words it will come back because Infect was Ad Nauseam's worst matchup and if there's a decline in Infect you're going to see an increase in AN decks being played which in turn will end up bringing back Infect a bit or even Storm to fight against AN decks. Mark my words DSJ will not be a top tier deck for long, every deck in Modern that has been top tier in the history of Modern cycles in and out of its placing. (e.g Burn, Jund, Tron specifically during Eldrazi Winter.)

For the most part though the Modern metagame is really slow to change and adapt unless something is absolutely broken (e.g again Eldrazi Winter)

Is there any actual reason to play Tezzerator in modern? I really like the idea and it seems great, but really is there anything it does better than other decks? Fuck I really did believe Whir of Invention was going to make it viable
>>
>>52401526
Ponza will forever run a singleton Stormbreath since 1) it can be coughed up through Primal Command, and 2) when they can't cast their hand, the monstrous hits super hard.
>>
>>52401584
The problem is Wizards are a bunch of cucks who didn't let artifacts tap for coloured mana. And getting coloured mana in a deck full of artifacts in Modern is a little tricky.
>>
>>52401690

Does Ponza really run a few copies of Stormbreath? I thought it was just Skred that would run it now and then.
>>
>>52401757
It runs one. Some decks just can't answer it. Take Abzan for example. It doesn't die to 1) Fatal Push, 2) Abrupt Decay, or 3) Path to Exile. They can't even chump with Lingering Souls. Ponza gets more milage out of it than most due to the nature of the deck.
>>
>>52401790

Actually that makes complete valid sense. Who know that Protection from White clause would be so relevant.
>>
>>52401714
I really don't think that's the problem desu
>>

I think Tezzerator works well with Theraben Inspector and a crew of smuggler copters and other vehicles

It's unplayable. I can crush people at the kitchen table with pic related, but as long as it dies to bolt it's going to be hard to keep it alive enough to have an impact

there are exceptions, of course.

I mean, if wotc wanted we could potentially have dragons as a tribe with enough cost reduction and enablers, and it still wouldn't be past mid-low tier
>>
>>52402250
>as long as it dies to bolt

Even if it had 4 toughness it would die to push

Hey buddy, you got the wrong thread, standard thread is two blocks down
>>
>>52402374

I always forget push exists

I could add path to the list but almost everything dies to path so
>>
>>52401584
Thoptersword is fun, that's literally the only reason. Can do some serious work in the right matchup. Currently Tezz is brewtier, but it's viable enough I think.

Tezz the Memer is also a really underrated card.
I could post my memelist but it doesn't have the Whir/Prism package

>>
>>52402968
Best used in R/G ponza
>>
>>52402968
It's okay. I don't think it's worth burning a minimum of 5 side board slots for it desu, just chalk burn up as either I got really lucky and won or I lost
>>
>>52403023
The thing is it dodges almost all the storm hate. If you win g1 and know that you will be hated a lot, this can steal g2 . But how are you using it? I tried 3 madcap and 1 Platinum emperion but I know if I draw him, then I won't have a way to return him to the deck

/tg/ how is this for babbys first storm list. Seems like the highest tier budget option as well, deck is very inexpensive.

18 lands (shitter lands like shivan etc)
8 dudes
8 rituals
4 manamorph
8 cantrips
2 past in flames
4 gifts
2 scroll
1 peer thru depths
1 grape
1 empty
2 remand

Theres a free slot, thinking about simian, increasing vengeance or echoing truth, I don't mind echoing in the sideboard though.
