Arcana soon, /5eg/. What do you expect to see in it?
>>
>>52382683
Obviously more wizard shit. Because they always need more shit.
>>
More wizards, because *Enter spurdo wizard of the coast, not martials who can boast meme*
>>
Question for you all.

A bunch of my coworkers want to get me to start playing D&D. Is it anywhere against the rules to make two character sheets? one fake one that I show to the party and a real one I show to the DM?
>>
>>52382766
Why would you do it, anon?
>>
Why do people always talk shit about caster supremacy?

It just makes sense. No shit, someone who can shoot fireballs, animate dead or create pocket dimensions with nothing but a spool of rope and some words is going to be a great deal stronger than someone who's best abilities without magic are basically "Can attack fast, parry and trip people."

The only way to beat caster superiority is to make it so they have absolutely no close range spells, or make martials have more long range killers. But then you just get to bringing rapid firing crossbows, which leads to muskets and guns, and then people complain about something else.

Stale.
>>
>>52382766
Ask your DM.

But seriously, why would you do that? D&D is a game about teamwork. If you're there just to back stab the party, go play video games instead.
>>
>>52382766
No, but it could be some bullshit depending on what it is you're hiding.

Storytime.
>>
>>52382766
As long as your DM has seen the real one, sure. But why would you want to do that?
>>
>>52382766
Don't be That Guy, anon. Everyone hates That Guy.
>>
>>52382766
Perfectly fine as long as the DM allows it. I'd probably try to get a better grasp of the rules before you start betraying the party or anything though.
>>
>>52382777
>>52382799
Well, I really don't have time to play alot and I was thinking if I made my character a double agent of sorts it would give more of an actual role playing component to only be able to show up every other week.

technically nothing wrong with it, but you might want to get a feel for the players before actively fucking them. It's called courtesy.
>>
>>52382839
That would just be a matter of only passing your backstory to the DM and introducing your character in a different way in game.

Unless you want to lie about your abilities too?
>>

I mean, I wouldn't be actively trying to fuck them every step of the way. That being said if it's that highly frowned upon I'll avoid it.

(Posted in the last thread when I didn't notice there was a new one)

I want to run the Forge of Fury from the new book but my big thought is what are they going to do with all that gold afterwords. I counted it up and if you gather all the coins and gemstones you end up with the equivalent of 8600 gold pieces, and somewhere you get 8 platinum pieces as well. Not to mention there are a couple +1 weapons, spell scrolls and a magic trinket or two.

Is there a nice list of pricing for things like furniture or art or extravagant weapons/armor that my players can splurge on with their dungeon spoils? I've noticed I'm pretty bad at pricing things whenever a PC goes to a merchant stall and asks for something unexpected.

Oh wait no I didn't, I sculpted the spell around the urchin and saved him while still killing the warlocks. Oh yea haha I rule. Sorry about your fuckup, you might want to try understanding magic first, lmao

I'm thinking about doing Curse of Strahd but only adding a great deal of CR 10 enemies in it.

I'm thinking maybe an Aboleth at the bottom of lake Zarovich, and Archdruid in Yester Hill

Then if they get Mordenkeinen to help, these two can duke it out in Castle Ravenloft

Because it's not that fun when the wizard can blast through any encounter and then convince the orc he lit on fire that they were good friends, all the while opening a portal with his other hand. While martials can stab stuff twice a turn. Defeats the teamwork aspect when one person can just do everything and the other is painfully weaker.

>Archdruid in Yester Hill
That encounter is already difficult.
>>
>>52383253
It doesn't. The basic height of a Huge creature as listed in the DM is around 20 feet, so it's up to the DM as to whether the 20 foot force cage can actually hold it.

The Gulthias tree in Curse of Strahd is significantly bigger, as it's been growing for centuries with evil druids tending it. The one in TYP is a relative sapling, only being tended by one druid for a short time.

Look man, I don't know how else to tell you this, but you're either shitposting and doing a pretty good job of it, or genuinely retarded. The stats and descriptions of creatures as they existed in previous editions have no bearing on how they exist in 5e. 18 feet is smaller than would exist in the size boundaries for the Huge size category in this edition.

Backing up to before this, your sense of humor is juvenile. "Angry ape with his nuts in a force cage" isn't funny to well-adjusted people over the age of 12. That, along with your particular choice of wording your distaste for the Druid class is why you're being mocked for being "a kid."

In 1884, meridian time personnel met
in Washington to change Earth time.
First words said was that only 1 day
could be used on Earth to not change
the 1 day bible. So they applied the 1
day and ignored the other 3 days.
The bible time was wrong then and it
proved wrong today. This a major lie
has so much evil feed from it's wrong.
No man on Earth has no belly-button,
it proves every believer on Earth a liar.

Children will be blessed for
Killing Of Educated Adults
Who Ignore 4 Simultaneous
Days Same Earth Rotation.
Practicing Evil ONEness -
Upon Earth Of Quadrants.
Evil Adult Crime VS Youth.
Supports Lie Of Integration.
1 Educated Are Most Dumb.
Not 1 Human Except Dead 1.
Man Is Paired, 2 Half 4 Self.
1 of God Is Only 1/4 Of God.
Bible A Lie & Word Is Lies.
Navel Connects 4 Corner 4s.
God Is Born Of A Mother –
She Left Belly B. Signature.
Every Priest Has Ma Sign
But Lies To Honor Queers.
Belly B. Proves 4 Corners.

Your dirty lying teachers

What are the drawbacks to Nomadic Anchor + Phantom Caravan? It seems like the Nomadic Step Mystic pretty much always is able to bail the whole party out of a sticky situation.

The few counters I can think of are:

>vision of party members is obscured
>party members out of reach
>anti-magic field

Dwarf wizard can work for the armour, ESPECIALLY in a game where the DM doesn't let you do bullshit like taking a level of cleric for heavy armour.

If you want, you can take the heavy armour feat at level 4 and start wearing heavy armour which you don't need 15 strength to wear, but honestly medium armour master would be much better if you had a +3 dexterity somehow, or even moderately armoured considering that also gives you shield proficiency. And suddenly, hobgoblin's sounding more up that ally.
And then suddenly dwarf's sounding kinda trash when you could instead take a level of warlock to start with then become an abjuration wizard for crazy armor of agathys fuckery then grabbing moderately armoured.

.. Yeah, you know, maybe it's best to ignore the whole feats thing and just up your int at every level instead.

I'll actually answer the questions now.

>What school
Well, what do you want to do?
Blasting?
Skeleton army?
More health?
Illusions?
Ensuring enemies fail your saves?
Throwing bombs and acid?
Hypnotizing people?
Being useless at alchemy?

>What kind of spells are best
Don't get witch bolt. It's a common trap.
Get lots of ritual spells. You can cast rituals even when they're not prepared if you spend cast time + 10 minutes on it.
Find familiar in particular is good, but you should probably collect lots of spells like detect magic, identify (and a pearl to cast it with)...
Blasting isn't always the best.

>Dwarf wizard
As above, can work. Armour.

To be fair, psionics used to be distinct from magic instead of just a separate source for magical powers. In every edition they appeared in, psionics and magic not interacting was either the default or specifically mentioned as an option. Can't blame people for getting confused over this sudden change in lore.

Naw dawg, they love that shit. Gives them a chance to use spells in interesting ways or combat options that don't usually make sense, and breaks the monotony of hp races.

Thx for the reply buddy

So, in 3.5 you can cast while wearing armor? No arcane spell chance failure?

>Well, what do you want to do?
I'm leaning towards a more control/defensive mage. Not a big fan of blowing shit up. I was thinking about abjurer or maybe conjurer as specializations? Is there any of those that is a obvious trap?
>>
>>52385770
Yeah in 5e as long as you are proficient in the armor you can cast in it.

My level 6 party just beat a nerf down Iron Golem (half health, same ac and attack) yesterday.

I'm pretty proud of them.
>>
>>52385770
5e, if you're not proficient you can't cast in armour. If you are proficient, you can cast with no problems whatsoever.

Conjurer kinda requires you to be a bit creative to make the most use of it.
You can make things like bombs, acid or such, and so that's only really curbed by how much your DM allows you to do with non-magical items and how often you're doing non-combat shit.

It's harder to get milage out of than, say, divination, which has some pretty good support potential, though portent is usually best used for making sure enemies fail important saves, I guess.

As long as you know what you're doing, it doesn't really matter what archetype you pick because wizard is pretty strong and useful. But if you don't know what you're doing... Eh. Still offers useful utility to the party, I guess.

It's hard to go wrong with abjurer, too. For the most part to start with it's just more health.

As long as you are proficient with a given type of armor, you may cast while wearing it. Otherwise, there is no casting failure, you simply lose the ability to cast while wearing armor you;re not proficient in.

Abjuration is good, and particularly thematic for a Dwarf wizard. Nothing preventing you from also taking some conjuration/transmutation spells for physical battlefield control either, as there are no banned/opposed schools in 5e. I would still recommend keeping a damage-dealing cantrip or Magic Missile in your repertoire though, for emergencies.
>>
>>52385888
You still seem awfully upset.
I would tell you that the warlock part is due to background, but you'd just go "REEEEEEE USING BACKGROUND TO JUSTIFY MUNCHKIN REEEEEE" so I'll refrain from doing so.

Compared to a lore bard:

>Combat inspiration is objectively worse than cutting words
>If you up dexterity a lot, you don't even need medium armour, and if you use big weapons then you don't even need shields. However, shields+armour is good. However, a lore bard could just take the 'moderately armoured' feat.
>You don't get the 3 extra skills a lore bard gets. However, I guess you could just spend a feat on that if you're bothered.
>Extra attack isn't massively great unless you have some nice magical weapon. It's good if you intend to grapple sometimes, though. But in the end, extra attack isn't a wasted feature, but it's competing with lore bard getting stuff like aura of vitality, counterspell, etc.
>Battle magic is pretty okay.

Lore bard has better support through cutting words. Usually considered the best choice, and you can get moderately armour if your DM keeps bullying you.
Valor bard is better if your DM bullies you a lot and you drain all your spell resources often and are sometimes required to grapple a bitch.
>>
>>52385888

Yeah. There are spells that give you action / bonus action attacks that kinda makes the extra attack less interesting. And it's not like cutting words is really that bad.

But valor bard has more of a place than some class archetypes have compared to others, such as land druid under moon druid.

Most people who tend to go warlockX, up to like level 4 and then into something similar tend to want the warlock experience but not the two spell slots only up until lvl 11.

Warlock is an extremely flavorful and cool class, it's just incredibly underwhelming and lame to play due to the restrictions, it ends up just being EB spam and some people want that flavor but not the shitty crunch.

Anon probably doesn't like people taking "a level of sorcerer," because that implies you have a special sorcerer heritage and if everybody does that shit it gets pretty ridiculous.
I partially agree - I don't think you should dip 1 level of a very thematic class (sorcerer/paladin/warlock) for purely mechanical reasons. But you're not playing at my table so I don't really give a shit.

Making a variant human trickery domain cleric with charlatan background. Is the actor feat overkill (up to +5 w/ advantage on imitating people), and if so what should I take? What's better? A dex-based Tempest Cleric with spell sniper/booming blade that uses a whip or a strength based Tempest Cleric with magic initiate/booming blade/find familiar and 2 other cantrips?

I hate how good dex is in this edition.
>>
>>52386559
Dex tempest cleric sounds bomb as fuck.
>>
>>52386559
Just go strength for +1 AC from heavy armour and ignore the whole booming blade / green flame blade gimmick.

Walk into combat with spirit guardians on you and dodge as everything around you melts.

Or use call lightning to get a lightning attack action every turn. Or whatever.

Or if you really must GFB/BB, I'd say strength is better than trying to toy about trying to get BB's extra damage, especially considering you get find familiar with it. And you can pick up shillelagh later.
>>
So, going through building my first character. Do you have to choose a subrace? And if/when you do, does the ability score increase override the generic one? Like regular dwarves get a con bonus, and hill dwarves get a wis bonus. Does one replace the other?
>>
>>52386740
For races like Elves and Dwarves, you're only picking 2/3 of a race. The remaining 1/3 is the subrace.

This is slightly different from "Variants" you might have heard about

>>52386796
>>52386740

That's from TYP? The first adventure in there says there's a hole to the underdark, but it "isn't covered here" and that you should create your own underdark hole, or else presumably it could lead into OOTA. Your pic seems to be another built-in adventure hook for you to expand on.

It's because size isn't height. Size is just a creature's general mass. A really tall, but thin creature is going to be deceptively small in size, while a creature that isn't very tall, but is really long or thick, will be deceptively large.
