Let's talk about dungeons and what programs do you use to design them
Of course we can't forget Dave's mapper

What's that?
I use Donjon.bin.sh, Megacosm and a lot of One-Page Dungeon Contest entries for cool short dungeon adventures.

dave's mapper page, link in the OP, is the page I use
the best way to use it is by using only one or two artists instead of all of them, it creates very consistent and smooth dungeons and caves
Risus Monkey is one of the best authors
Are there any good tools for building forts/individual buildings above ground.

Dave here. Thanks for the love. <3
Risus Monkey and Dyson Logos are two of the best and really pioneered the modern geomorph map scene.
I'm working on revising the sidebar and making it work better on mobile. You can check it out at https://beta.davesmapper.com/ if you're interested. Feedback on that and anything else is always welcome.
Is it better to describe rooms to the players and let them draw their own map, or to uncover sections of a big map as the PCs explore?
I've been experimenting with http://pyromancers.com/dungeon-painter-online/
I just use photoshop. I used to use all kinds of special programs, but once I learned PS then I can do ANYTHING I need. World maps, Dungeons, character art, Whatever. Doing anything else seems like a waste of time imho.

Anyone have a decent castle map?
I like to use Dwarf Fortress maps from particularly hectic LPs. You've got a history already made for you.
