This week's Monday Meeting Notes:

>Question:
Which of the WoD games have you always wanted to play, but never had the opportunity to do so and why?
>>
>>52357038
Hunter the Vigil / Hunters Hunted

Admittedly I haven't tried looking too hard.

In VTM, can vampires smoke?
>>
>>52357442
Yes.
>>
>>52357442
Yeah, but it's mainly just cosmetic. Like any drugs or substances, it just goes through their bodies with no effect. If they drink the blood of someone who has taken something though, they can get drunk, high, etc.
>>
>>52357971
Does it work the same way for ghouls?
>>
>>52358229
No, ghouls remain normal humans with super powers and an addiction.
>>
Here's hoping someone saved all that court building from last thread
>>
>>52357442
So many of my NPCs smoke that I've had to come up with good reasons why vampires would smoke.
It helps build courage to fire over a longer period, it helps one look more human, it gives an excuse to loiter in weird places for five-ten minutes at a time and it gives an excuse to approach humans for a cigarette or a light.
As a vampire, there's little to be lost from smoking and a lot to be gained - it's not like it hurts you in the slightest.
>>
>>52358428
My child, I now endow upon you a great tool that you might not worry about something being lost again.

Say....how long would you guys say a group of Mortals could last in Twilight naked and without any items?
I'm asking because one of our Mages just had to Ghost Gate 10 DEA agents.
>>
>>52358861
Ghost Twilight?
Any dangerous Ghosts about?
Otherwise they'd last several days, until they died of dehydration.
Unless they found ghost-water.
In which case they'd likely last longer.
>>
>>52358872
>Any dangerous Ghosts about?
Well...there may or may not be a ghost of a serial killer inside the haunted mansion they were just outside of. And a ghost I had to fight off with Camera Obscura. (Fatal Frame-inspired ability from Hurt Locker that lets a Mortal deal damage to an ephemeral by focusing a camera on them.)
>>
>>52358229
As explained, ghouls are still essentially living humans. They're not dead - so remember, if you need business done in the daytime, that's one thing ghouls are for. And I guess if you want drugs, make your ghoul take them.

What's the optimal number of Master cards?
And does ever deck really need 10x Life in the City because it would be waste not to user your opportunity for Trifle?
>>
So what is wrong with Leviathans mechanically? I rather like the idea behind it.
>>
Is Beast the Primordial basically Dexter the "Ends Justify the Means" / Ghost Rider game?
>>
>>52351770
If you're still around, cowboy anon, the best way to have him get involved in investigative/political plots is to play up on his cowboy/gunslinger angle from that era. If he was a lawman with some ill repute for more dead bounties than living bounties, he already knows how to work with the investigation, just adapting to modern techniques and vampire society is cutthroat backroom 'i am the law here' politics, which he'd be intimately familiar with. I'd say look at Jonah Hex for some inspiration perhaps.
>>
>>52358861
Twilight is a state of being, not an entirely different dimension. They would also have any stuff on them unless you stripped them before you chucked them through the Ghost Gate. They'd be wandering around, and dangerous to themselves if there's other entites on the same 'wavelength' as them around, like the ghost of the serial killer.
>>
>>52359582
Nah, it's the 'we need to push something that helps our picked on minority players and their otherkin bullshit'. At least in how they did it. Beast could be good; the 'ancient horror ingrained in humanity' is an awesome concept. The execution is fucking stupid.
>>
Last night we did something other than shitpost mage memes and brainstormed a changeling freehold. I'm posting what we came up with so far.

Freehold: Las Vegas
Freehold Story: Beauty & the Beast
Bulwark:TBD
Courts:

'Beauty' Court-Wisdom, innocence, compassion
'Beast' Court- Valor, rage, wealth
'Rose' Court- Destiny, melancholy, sybil
'Furniture' Court-Joy, pragmatism, workhorse
'Gaston' Court- Pride, dominance, control

Court symbol and descriptions:

Beauty Court- Hand mirror- Rules with wisdom acting in the long term interests of the freehold and trying to improve the station of it's members. Unfortunately they tend to overlook people's flaws and are perceived to be naive about the ugly side of politics.

Beast Court- Elk antlers or Bison horns- Crude and blunt. They're the leaders that everyone hates. However unpopular their decisions it tends to work out in the end. They're the beating heart of the freehold the source of the resources that makes it work.

Gaston Court- A bloody axe- Charming and utterly disastrous for the freehold. They're the charming warriors who have a bad habit of friendly fire. power house hunters

Seneschal Court-Candelabra- 'Furniture' could be a derogatory term for members of the . But they deal with it, because it's their job to keep the Freehold ticking, while not holding direct power themselves.

Rose Court- A wilting thorny rose- maintains a watch on all things Hedge. While the other Courts have their own interests, the Rose have their heads firmly in the clouds, so to say. They make prophecies, keep an eye out for all those who get lost, and seek to solve mystical problems, while the Seneschals solve practical problems.

Court procession:
Beast>Belle>Gaston
>>
>>52360068
We still need a better name than Gaston for the court, it's too on the nose.
>>
>>52360068
Things we still need to do.

Freehold bulwark ritual
Court rituals
Approaches
Titles
Contracts
Mantle
>>
>>52360068
Ok this looks cool and all but can you give me a quick rundown how this stuff works? What's the deal with changeling courts?
>>
>>52360164
http://theonyxpath.com/changeling-the-lost-second-edition-court-creation-and-toronto/

here's the tl;dr

The true fae want to drag changelings back to arcadia and keep doing whatever dark eldar tier kinky shit they're into.

To keep them off the trail changelings create freeholds. Communities 'inspired' by fairy-tales that have a complex set of rituals and bylaws that keep the true fae and huntsmen confused, disinterested, and off their trail.

A freehold is made up of a number of courts some of which cycle through leadership. Each court draws inspiration from aspects of a story.
>>
>>52360304
Doesnt even necessarily be a 'story' in the same vein as red riding hood or beauty and the beast. Could be something vague like local lore, or "American road trip"
>>
>>52360094

The court story is about them being great hunters and peerless fighters. Perhaps something like champion, lictor, or praetor?
>>
Idea for beast court.

Vegas is a town where fortune and favor changes overnight and the true fae love it.

Before being abducted members of beast court came from charmed lives. Heirs to lucrative businesses or entertainers that just caught they're big break.

Their durance changed all that. What came back is broken and bitter Their talents are if anything enhanced from what they were before being taken but it's tempered with the cruel cynicism and ugly actions.
>>
>>52360103
Rituals seem pretty obvious.

>A grand ball and dance transfers power from Beast to Belle.
>A day of hunting-games capped by the 'kidnapping' of the Belle monarch transfers it from Belle to Gaston
>A great 'duel' between monarchs or their champions marks the transition from Gaston to Beast
>>

This is adorable. I'm giggling like a teenage girl for some reason.

>Beast
My solution was to introduce social splats.
Humanist splat
Horror splat
Mysteries splat

Humanists are the hard deniers and control their horrors. low feeding frequency. always on the edge of ripping it all up
Horror splat like to let it all hang out. forsaken being human feeds when they're hungry. their feedings are more spread out. they feed more often but the horror they give out are worse. But they don;t snap as hard as the humanist
Mystery They go explore mysteries of the others and their conditions. They're the questioning and questing splat.

Simple. so the morality is shifted into what view you have. is a little more horror spread around more merciful, than trying to hide it all then failing? Is trying to keep it intact an ethical good even if the fail state is so terrible?

Feeding becomes a socialist question. both have good points and bad points. It allows questioning inside of the narrative which was lacking before. Also the whole everyone is family was really dumb, so this is a way for them to self examine while still being social
>>
>>52360510
>>52360094
Being on the nose is the point. We already have the rose, beauty and the beast as court names. people will figure it out. so why not embrace it. and in universe people would embrace that as well.

In the fairy tale Gaston is not the protagonist but he is 'Hero' of the village. the will of the populace. Yes he was the antagonist and was doing it for selfish reasons, but in the eyes of the layman villager he's doing the right thing. Without the context and the knowledge of the rose or the curse. He's killing the monster and saving the village. Gaston is the personification of mob rule. He's the antagonist but he isn't "Evil" evil in the classic sense.

He's brave, he's powerful, He's charming, but he's also not academic or intellectually curious, and he's damn prideful and selfish.

The smart people will get it, and the rest wouldn't care.

It works on the individual level and on the collective level. It stands up
>>
>Approaches
These are the way courts deliberately leave open their defenses for huntsmen to attack. Drafting
Court - Approach - Fall

Beauty - Mystery or Puzzles - Native tricked
Beast - Bargains or Combats - wrath deals gone bad
Seneschal - Loyality or mortals - betrayal passivity
Rose - The Hedge or mysteries - losing track of themselves into madness
Gaston - Combat or mortals - Pride before-then the fall overreaching attacking his friends

Trappings
Beauty - Librarian books
Beast - symbols of wealth suits furs
Seneschal - symbols of authority?
Rose - occultism thorns gardening
Gaston - Hunting scouts pelts

Does anyone have this album they'd be willing to share?

I've been looking for it for years but I've never been able to find an actual copy anywhere. It was on megaupload at one point and the first three tracks are on yt:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLGmzL5kF63teLQWr7ozRBCWwZscL7RBdB
>>
>>52362643
I think beast could be made better if they had a sheet for ones "legend" in the same way promethean had the pilgrimage chart. Then things are less vague
>>
>>52362280
It usually takes a week or two for someone to post shit, even pre-release proofing copies
>>
>>52363465
That assumes that the goal of the game is gain the inheritance. much in the same way the goal of Promethean is to become human.

And there are mechanics for becoming monster ultimate. I mean you could model it as an aspiration tiered system. once you hit lair 6. I mean basically all you got to do is kill a hero without taking damage. like it's that hard or something. sample adventure they threw out was an alpha beast ascending via terrorist attack
>>
>>52359463
15-17. Basically you'll want 1 Master for as many turns as a game usually lasts, unless you're playing a Master focused deck with cards that give you multiple Master phase actions.
Trifles are good, but the more you front load your deck with them, the more you'll start to have card flow issues and will probably end up discarding some of them anyway.
VtES is tricky in that way I think, since there's no individual card limit it can seem like a good idea to include a lot of something useful, but in practice it's best to minimize your library to like 75-80.

I like playing with both sexes just fine but what is the actual explanation for why Vampire attracts SO much more women than any other game subject? It's not Twilight or any other individual piece of media (whatever the FotM may be at present), before you try and imply that bullshit at me. The female obsession with vampires is long and old.
>>
>>52364891
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ooN9xdAgi5w
>>
>>52364993
Because women like being taken and compelled. Rape fantasies are one of the most common and the whole damn game is a giant rape fantasy.
>>
>>52364993
Older men
>>
>>52364993

>>
>>52365028

>>52365044
It's power. It is not the age but the power a man holds that makes them attractive

It's why 50shades of grey even exists
>>
>>52365028
Also the murder compulsion and its conflict with any other feelings they might have. They're a project!
>>
>>52365028
Aside from the act of feeding itself being a rape substitute (which is almost always glossed-over as a routine activity not worth spending game time describing), what other parts about it makes the "whole damn game" a rape fantasy? That wouldn't be found in the other games, I mean. They ALL have tons of mind-control stuff.
>>
>>52365093
>It's power

If that were the case, why aren't these women swooning all over Awakening instead? kek
>>
>>52365365
The magic system is too complicated for them.
>>
>>52365257
The feeding is the core of the vampire myth. Lost of control, emotional manipulation. The whole game may not be That but it is the core that the game is built around. without the feeding and the embrace, there is no game. Vampirism is a lethal STD that just keeps on giving after you die.

Hell even you're favorite bite snack blood doll, or most loyal blood slave can come back as a revenant mistake after they die.
>>
>>52365365
If Mage were about playing high-school wizards it would be the most female-dominated roleplaying game this side of VtM. Magic school and magic teens is another huge cute obsession. The fact that WW are not going to realize that in time for the next game series is a business tragedy.
>>
>>52365365
because its a creepy nerd power fantasy.
>>

>>
>>52365505
not to quash a good counterpoint. but if you play it right you can make vampire the eternal highschool drama. with the convents as cliches
>>
>>52365557

>>52365563
I'm going to vomit.
>>
>>52365440
Orders and Paths kind of get in the way of it. Other than a slightly different set of skills, the system could be converted by just letting arcana be freely selected as the characters' courses.

Of course a more nailed-down approach to a character's class attendance, teacher tolerance and detention time would make it more interesting and take the burden off of roleplaying boring classes out to 'maintain the feel', if those are things you can then abstractify and get only the story-affecting bits from.
>>
>>52365557
>YA is the most popular fiction genre

Evidently false based on statistical consensus. It's still up there.
>>
>>52365591

Non-deviation from the norm, like reading popular fiction genres, is actually one of the three basic categories for sanity.

>>
>>52365790
Everything but the end part seemed cool to me Tbh. Including having flaws and merits to affect how tolerant teachers are with you.

The whole 'being late for class' thing does deserve being automated by the system, but maybe having to do Detention could then switch to being an actual roleplay event or challenge. Especially when your friends successfully get you out with illusions. That would be the challenge with such a system, knowing what things should be abstracted, because there's a lot of mundanity involved with running a 'school' game.

Didn't they lose that one? The HL1 mod wasn't actually that bad.

I think we can all agree that WW was fucking retarded over the Underworld case.

You can't lay claim to something so fucking broad like that. Typical SJW behavior of the 90s, lingering into the new millennium.

I'm no expert but I think that means they won.

So our cabal just managed to steal a Mummy from a Museum. As in Arisen.

We didn't know it was Arisen, we just replaced it with a look-alike , slipped it in the magic box the buyer wanted it in, and took off. Thing is, Ashwood Abbey had the same idea, except they were going to grind it up and mix it with cocaine.

So we fight off the Abbey in something resembling "GTA 5 chase with magic" and get it back to the buyer. It finally busts out, and "it" is a very attractive yet kind of creepy woman.

We talk it down without bloodshed, only now, she's more interested in us than the buyer. Which is great, because now we are now on both the Guardian/Mysterium Cabal and Ashwood Abbey's shitlists.

I know fresh out of the box mummies can stomp all over our mid-level cabal - probably the other cabal too, but I'm not sure what they've got.

So what I'm really asking is at what point would it be safe for us to give her a bukkake party and make her into a cummy mummy?
>>
All I wanna do is hunt monsters and hide my PTSD. Why is life so unfair?

>So our cabal just managed to steal a Mummy from a Museum. As in Arisen.

You niggers dead. Just stone dead. Best to give your pricks one last goodbye pull and hope your end doesn't come slowly.
>>
>>52367984

If she's capable of talking to you and not attempting to break your neck, she's probably at Sekhem 9 or 8. You'd need to wait a bit before you could take her on in combat, but that could be a long, long while.

Your best bet is to try to form an alliance, or at least try to help her re-establish contact with her Cult, if she's still got one. The obstacle there is that she will probably try to induct all of you into the Cult, which may be inconvenient.
>>
>>52367963
We have no idea what they ultimately got but they settled out of court. There was enough comparsion, though, to make between Underworld and a WW fiction piece about a vampire and werewolf romance IIRC. I assume there was ENOUGH to prove something (and the onus is on WW to provide specific instances of copyright infringement), but not enough to shut it down. Which is why it went way left field as the series progressed.

Some of the shit they tried saying was evidence of copyright infringement was just nothing, though. Like "Assamites are north african/middle eastern vampires, and Kahn from Underworld is a black dude", or "vampires are fast in both".

Right, I am aware. But either 1) there was enough that someting would've come of it, or 2) Sony felt it wsn't worth the time and just threw money at them to get them to shut up.

I'm going to guess this one. The cost of the lawer's day in court was probably less than the cost to shut them up

It's implied it's a bunch of thinbloods in a fucked up LA, and that all the elders are off at a Camarilla gathering in the area. A bunch of us assume this is how the V5 setting of 'elders are mostly dead, neonates and ancillae are the most common vampires' they teased.

Also for fuck's sake, 4chan, how many captchas do I need to fucking do?
>>
>>52368391

Metaplot now says that all the important vampires are moving to the West Coast, so that's not going to happen anymore.

It appears 5e will encourage you to play a new Generation of Thin-Bloods working their way up in less rigid political city structures while trying to avoid the revived Mortal Inquisition.

The Vampire game was blasted up the ass, both here and on other forums, for shoving the author's politics in the audience's faces as well as just general shitty writing (characters do Shakespearean monologues while chasing you around, forced and unfunny references).

The Mage game was better received.

What >>52368501 said, plus there's also a ton of speculation about some things in there, like the SJW transgender murder vampire being a pastiche of the person who wrote Monsterhearts. In addition to the shithole of the game itself, the writer is also very.. controversial. He's a known harasser and sockpuppeter and is essentially Null Snyper in human form. Hell, his involvement with WW (he's going to be writing for them for V5!) got David Hill to quit writing for OPP.

Even as a fan of Beast, I agree with the people who say it lacks its own identity. There's just too reliance on the material of other gamelines. And there is this sense that Beasts know other supernaturals better than they know themselves, which is really smug and off-putting.

I wish Beast had its own social factions so it could stand out more. It could also give more attention to high Integrity Heroes. As it is, the tone is too much "Beasts are misunderstood and persecuted". It should be more "Beasts are abominations, period, and they have to earn their place in the world".
>>
>>52368546

Of course, the writer claims that the character's based on adult film actress Bailey Jay with her permission, and that it's just a coincidence that the pastiche just so happens to use the name of a writer he hates.

Either way, we can only hope that he gets so involved with HIS Vampire game that he wants to get out before any new OPP material or 5e that he doesn't touch a WoD product ever again.

THAT work of art was exactly VtM in every way except for mortals dying from the embrace. Literally everything else was pure VtM larp. It even had different types of vampires by clan, similar to VtM clans to the degree where they were instantly recognizable. If it wasn't intentional, it was an hour and a half of coincidences. No lawsuit.

Our ST is fond of "experimenting" with crossovers to figure out what works and what doesn't.

Cross-splat cooperation is usually relatively easy, but watch your back and give each splat a chance to shine.

>>
How have Cabals been relevant in your games?

Are they more than just a simple "you're the PCs" designation?

How have NPC cabals interacted with your games?

It is reasonable to think that Mages might abandon or move away from the concept as they get more power, the bonds of a Legacy and tutorship perhaps becoming more important, or perhaps other issues falling away as you pursue your own, complicated and esoteric Obsessions, finding it harder and harder to find others who share them with you, and perhaps finding others get in your way more than they're helpful?

God-Machine created Cryptid designed with exceptional scientific knowledge, minor psychic ability and minor biological deviations, including extreme regenerative capacitiy.

Partnered with an Exile laire (probably the wrong name, those Angels imbued into physical objects/locations) which has time-travelling capacity.

He believes that he's on the run from it, but ultimately it has an approximate form over control over where he goes, and sends him to "fix" problems here and there. He's a long-term project.

AKU, THE MASTER OF DARKNESS!

Type: Idigam (Earthbound)

Attributes: Power 15, Finesse 15, Resistance 15
Willpower: 10
Essence: 240
Initiative: 15
Defense: 11
Speed: 40
Size: Varies
Corpus: 15 + Size + Rank
Armour: 15
Manifestations: Twilight Form, Discorporate, Gauntlet Breach, Materialize, Reaching, Royal Avatar, Shadow Gateway,
Influences: Darkness 6
Numina: Awe, Blast, Dement, Essence Thief, Hallucination, Mortal Mask, Nightmare Weaponry, Omen Trance, Pathfinder, Seek, Speed, Telekinesis
Dread Powers: Call Void Spirit, Colossus, Devourer, Elemental Fury, Crazed Evolution, Regenerate 3, Shifting, Spirit Dominion, Spirit Interrogation
Essence Shaping: Gauntlet Manipulation,Ghost Manipulation, Locus Manipulation, One Million Eyes, Spirit Manipulation
Forge Servant: Claimed, Herald, Spawn
Ban: Must show a trait of his true form no matter what disguise he takes
Bane: Jack's Magic Sword

Special Considerations: As an entity of Rank 6, Aku may use any power covered by spells from the common Practices of any Arcanum, as long as the power relates to its area of influence. Convert Mana costs to Essence and add the standard one Essence for using an Influence. Extended spells must still be “cast” over time, each “roll” taking half an hour. He achieves additional, automatic successes on any roll equal to his Rank in anything relating to his purview or his Rank - 5 for anything else. He regains his Rank in Essence every turn.

He also has the power to make you read stuff in his voice.

There was a previous discussion of oWoD vs Exalted.

oWoD won as soon as the Archmages & Celestines joined the battle. Not even the Unconquered Sun is going to do anything to those things.

They could go back in time and kill the Ebon Dragon, Mages are bullshit.

The real fun of a Solar in the oWoD is using a social Charm so powerful it changes the Consensus by fiat. You could warp local reality just by 'convincing' the majority of people to believe you.
>>
>>52371984
It really depends on the respective archmage, and how powerful.
>>
>>52371727
We're talking Awakening, fampai
They're called Arcana
>>
>>52372113
This has been tried before, that's not how the Consensus works.

>>
>>52372141
If you have a source on that I'd like to see it.
>>
>>52372190
Not sure if serious. This is literally common sense. Abilities that tamper with belief are literally everywhere in the oWoD. A whole Sphere can be specialized to do just that.
>>
>>52372214
Yes, abilities that tamper with belief are common. But you need a truly vast scale to effect the Consensus even in a local respect, making it mostly the purview of someone with Arete 6+, that is, an Archmage.

The only thing stopping an Archmage from turning an entire city into his own personal Paradigm by brain washing thousands of people is the Paradox the mind-washing itself would cause, and the fact that the NWO would nuke him into hell for doing so, and the Void Engineers Chrononaut division or Syndicate bankers would have predicted the city's flip days in advance.

A Solar however could do so much easier, supposing he had one of the high level Social Charms.

>what about taste? Do vampires taste or smell anything but blood?

They can taste stuff, but unless they have the "Eat Food" merit it will all just taste like different kinds of crap... and if you try to swallow anything besides blood, it'll come right back up immediately, of course.

Eat Food (1 Point merit) lets you not only eat food, but it also lets you savour the taste of it.

Smell works a bit differently, since they seem perfectly capable of differentiating good smells from bad smells.

>In VTM, can vampires smoke?

Yes, though they have to be careful: they're basically walking piles of kindling, after all.

Some vamps smoke out of habit because they're still neonates and they did it while they were alive, and others make an effort to smoke in public because it helps sell the illusion that they're still mortal (many vampires forget to breathe, which can be an easy thing for hunters to spot, especially in winter: smoking helps disguise this fact).

And lastly, some vampires smoke because they think it helps them look cool and in-control to other vampires. And considering how fearful vamps are of fire in general, it's sometimes even true.
>>
>>52374865
Heh I have npc in VtR whose Nosferatu curse displays as smell of rotting stuff and tires to mask it with cheapest smelliest cigarettes with he smokes all the time
>>
>>52374865
Don't underestimate the usefulness of cigarettes as an excuse.
Asking someone for a light is an almost universal method to get close to someone without needing any setup or excuses, because even people who don't smoke sometimes carry a lighter.
Hanging around in dark alleys or in places you're not entirely supposed to be is a lot more suspicious if you're doing nothing or checking your phone than if you're just smoking a cigarette.
Being a smoker, I know that one of the reasons people smoke is to get five-ten free minutes - surprisingly few people will bother you when you're just standing around having a fag.

I heard of some of these issues, especially the cannibal or snuff whatever tranny Trump hating vampire, but wasn't the Mage story even worse received? From what I was able to gather and watch, it was LITERALLY "a social justice warrior awakens as a mage and has to decide whether to be with the evil white male Technocracy or the good, noble, kind wizard refugees, while having a literal mental safe space"? I mean I guess both sound terrible, but I'm guessing you lot hated the Vampire one worse?

>>52375327
Is it? I mean I can understand if it's some hambeast Toreador in your group who is doing it to sound pretentious and make """"good"""" story, but if you got a really, like REALLY emotional scene going in your game, wouldn't it be appropriate to have your PC cry? I mean, especially if you're a neonate, when you finally break down, I think it'd be underselling the impact of something, a scene, right? I mean isn't that the point, to roleplay? I get if one's doing an awesome/funny game, but to make a really effective one, even that has to vary the tone, I would think. There's gotta be nights where you wake up and wonder when was it that you became a monster?

>>52375848
How bad is it in general with the modern games? I mean I got VtM 20th, and it was bretty nice all things considered, nothing overt or even covert. I mean I'm inured in general to leftist talking points in media, but I didn't see anything super overt, and if it was, it's usually more just that particular vampire's feelings than the authors. Then again I don't have that many books, so I can't really say much.
>>
>>52376380
Regarding the shitty writing with some of the newer books I would sorta agree. From CofD perspective:
Beast has some good stuff but it's marred in all kinds of stupid shit and parts of it could have been written into existing lines like changeling and vampire that already share some themes.
Secrets of the Covenant was poor for me due to it being collection of meh stories and opposite of what I would like to see personally.
Hurt Locker is uneven both in writing and rules department. Some stuff is fun but there are also ridiculous bits here and there.
On the other hand entire Demon the Descent line is fuckin golden IMHO.

A lot of the blasted up the ass for recent games is coming from the awfulness of the content. THere's a huge mix of good and bad. Secrets of the Covenants, which was in development for like 2 years? Was a fiction book, told from the in world perspectives of PCs within the covenants (or in the carthians case, a fucking 'zine like an 80s underground culture) instead of expanding on the Covenants and their changes from the 2e corebook ala the old Clanbooks, and the powers seem to have not bene playtested. Everything is wildly hit or miss; you'll get one good book, then you'll get shit like 'dickegg caviar and allies 5 (internet trolls) and beasts sank the titanic' like Conquering Heroes, or M20 in it's entirety (missing sections because of wordcount, but sidebars about 'you're a bad person if a gay character bothers you' or a sidebar about playing evil makes you evil in real life or FATHERS THRUSTING COCK or a half-page on eating local and making things like a haunch of venison for game' while leaving out mechanics. For every GOOD thing we get, we get three terrible ones.

>>
>>52378485
I've given it a spin, and you must have some nasty experiences if you think the Shadow mechanic is going to make it unplayable.
If you're really so afraid of your fellow players being assholes that you don't trust them to act out your Shadow (in which case you should stop letting people step all over you and leave the group - no group is better than being the doormat of a bad one), the GM can do it.
There are clear guidelines and rules on playing and acting out the Shadow in the books, and they're balanced so that the Shadow can't actually railroad you that much, and sure as hell not without adequate warning. It's a way to give a voice to something that could otherwise either be just another NPC or an absurdly powerful railroading device, and I think it's done well enough.
The Shadow is mostly a voice and only that, with some tools to create challenges but not actually force you into decisions or cause you to commit direct or indirect suicide.
If you haven't read the book and think it's a railroading tool that makes the game unplayable, you listen to sore-loser retards who can't take not being omnipotent and unlimited by silly things such as setting and character.
If you drew that conclusion yourself, you're a Grade-A mongoloid and should be chained naked in a Broken Mirror in central Bangkok.

You both still need Clash of Wills, dorks.

The Mana/Pillar exchange goes two ways, it's hardly bullying. The most significant change is that now Clash of Wills is mandatory for a lot of cross splat attacks, and Mages/Mummies explicitly can't fuck with Sekhem/Gnosis the power stat directly (indirectly is fine).
>>
>>52382533
Also mummies are proof against the Soulless condition since their entire existence and powers work on their soul being this ultra special one that has been as ritually modified as their bodies. If you could rip an Arisen soul out you beat them more effectively than throwing their body and jars into lava.
>>
>>52382558

There's also the fact that a Mage can never, ever use Mind to raise a Mummy's Memory, because a Mummy's unrecovered memories are literally not in their mind at all.

Some unsuspecting Mage is going to get wrapped the fuck up in frustrating weirdness if they end up pursuing the Arisen condition as their Mystery.

That reminds me, have you noticed, that Clash of Wills is actually one of things Mages aren't good in? It's based on Arcana dots which normally cap at 5, there are 8 types of them compared to say prommies who use always resistance trait. At the same time I don't remember Mages having any specialities which would give you rote action on CoW or penalty to your opponent as have sometimes other splats. The Duration part is probably disadvantage too, because lots of powers of other splats have unlimited duration by default at no additional cost.

Mummy has a lot of "no resistance roll" powers that are fine for the splat and less fine for crossover games. So, the crossover rules made explicit what most people already assumed: Clash of Wills is going to be very important.

>>52382971
beasts are nothing more than Viagra pills deal with it
>>
>>52382971
>That reminds me, have you noticed, that Clash of Wills is actually one of things Mages aren't good in?

Evidently false.
>>
>>52383052
Mummy is 1e so it isn't really surprising.

>>52383137
>Evidently false.
Mind sharing that "evidence"?
>>
>>52383137
>confusing variety with applicability
>>
>>52382971
Clash of Wills is Gnosis + Arcanum
>>
An increased duration spells further provide CoW bonuses.
>>
>>52382971
Mages are arguably the best when it comes to Clashing, anon.

The fact that Archmasters automatically succeed on all CoW is just the cherry on the already heavily iced cake.
>>
>>52383238
Everyone knows that. What are you trying to say by that?

>>52383293
I already addressed that.
>The Duration part is probably disadvantage too, because lots of powers of other splats have unlimited duration by default at no additional cost.
>>
Duration is hardly disadvantageous when it comes to CoW
>>
>>52383479
He means a disadvantage because mages have to pay for it with the spell casting and mummies get free infinite duration effects.

>samefag
>>
>>52383507
Eh, that's exactly how Mage works. You must put in effort in order to outclass various splat Templates. I would have it no other way.

>>52383568
How paranoid.
>>

>same opening argument

yeah they're the same

In this case more like put in effort to be same as other splats. Not saying it's bad, I just wanted to point out that Mages aren't perfect in everything.
>>
>>52383697
>wheres the other one?
BOOM conspiracy confirmed

>In this case more like put in effort to be same as other splats
You could say the same thing about non-mages as well.
>>
>>52383568
>Duration is hardly disadvantageous when it comes to CoW

-not me

>An increased duration spells further provide CoW bonuses.

-Me

You really need learn to address the arguments, not the speaker.
>>
>>52383816
This is literally a discussion purely on clash of wills and you're just being an obstinate faggot.
>>
>>52383837
>No photo evidence
BOOM conspiracy double confirmed
>>
>>52383839
No, just disagreeing with you. If you can't handle the opinion of someone other than yourself, the irony of your post is plainly evident.
>>
>>52383896
>Mages have less of an advantage buffing clash of wills
>BUT THE SAME COULD BE SAID OF ALL MEN
Not really an opinion just you being retarded.
>>
>>52383960
Congratulations, you just passed the third grade.
>>
>>52383896
Ok, why don't you try to explain how do other splats put effort in Clash of Wills similarly as Mages do?

You're a prime example of why magefags bully people. Perhaps you should pick up a book before you start vomiting misinformation?
>>
>>52384008
Mages get literally 0 spells for free at increased duration. Mummies get many. That's literally the discussion. Do you not know how to read?
>>
>>52383990
It won't sway him. Personal bias does this to people. Not too dissimilar from the religious.
>>
>>52384027
I never actually disagreed with that, at least when concerning mummies.
>>
>>52384027
Just minor nitpick.
I started the discussion about CoW so I should know what is the discussion about and I didn't mean just Mummies. Other splats have many such powers too, have powers with which they get rote action on CoW or penalize other side's CoW roll, (disregarding Archmastery) can raise CoW attribute higher than Mages can and so on.
>>
>>52384185
They don't necessarily raise it higher than mages, it's that mages put a bit more effort into it. Not all Templates have infinite duration on their respective abilities. Mages potentially do.

Mages are highly proficient at preventing Clashes from ever happening, due to just how versatile they are. If t hey know just what you're capable of, they're not going to waste time preventing you from gaining any sort of benefit.

Why are you even responding to him? There's another thread.

He's also autistic.
>>
>>52384258

It's also why a combined group of mages tend to be far more terrifying than a group of any other supernaturals.
>>
>>52384299
A precisely prepared Master is the absolute strongest thing playable, other than Archmasters.

Cabals are just overkill.
>>
>>52384329

Of, course, let's not forget about cabals full of masters.
