Last time on Song of Swords:
Kickstarter ended and IMMEDIATELY threads start dying before autosage. GG, guys.

The KS link & Opaque's website
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2006613790/song-of-swords-tabletop-roleplaying-game
http://www.songofswords.net/

Song of Swords is a a tabletop RPG centered around realistic medieval fightan' with a ludicrous variety of weapons and fighting styles, centered around a dice pool system. It's currently in beta, and can be used for both fantasy and historical games. Kickstarter is happening NOW we are kicking ass baby!

Call of the Void: Ballad of the Laser Whales is a pulpy sci-fi tabletop RPG about fighting space-nazis and hunting giant whales with harpoons made out of the moon. Its combat system is more modern, based in the early 20th century, but can probably handle combat up to the present day.

MEGA folder containing current version of the game and all supplementary materials.
Note that the latest version of the game is v1.9.9 but with additional supplements. It's NOT what's currently on Opaque's website, because Jimmy is Jimmy.
https://mega.nz/#F!S89jTT7J!ozFi9GvzaFGHfBa59Ik2-Q

Here's a wiki detailing SoS's fantasy setting, getting filled up bit by bit as Jimmy reveals more details:
http://tattered-realms.wikia.com/wiki/Tattered_Realms_Wiki

We also have a Discord now, at https://discord.gg/zzTq7Xw
And a Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/SongofSwordsRPG/

There's also a roll20 room where new players are encouraged to try the rules, test new rules, and find game breaking issues: https://app.roll20.net/join/346755/hRKd4w
If you're looking to learn, post here in the thread. We also play Guy Windsor's card game Audatia in the room.

How would a pike formation work?
>>
>>52314252
The rules don't cover hundred-man formations yet.
>>
>>52314610
Yeah that's slated for a future thing iirc.
>>
>>52314610
how would a 5-man shield-wall work then?
>>
>>52314999
It wouldn't. The rules don't cover any sort of formation yet.
>>
>>52315341
not even 2v2 or 2v1?
>>
>>52315378
It can do multiple people in a fight, but not formations. You'll have to homebrew something for formations.
>>
>>52314999
Bonuses to cross-defend and cross-attack, with + or - depending on how tight or loose the wall is (tight wall better defense, loose wall better attack). Tighter walls would have shield overlap to protect each other as well, loose wall would allow flanking easier.

Fuck your waifumancers

Fuck your marysue NPC fellatio artists

Lets use our thread Visionary to make Alligator Man

He is from the Tattered Realm version of not-Florida

He is hungry for Faces

He pins you

He opens your fancy human sardine can visor

he then uses accuracy talents to do a Bite at the Face

he then eats your Face

this is Best Character

Biting is even better than Khopesh

Shopping for a system for my next campaign. Has anyone here run an actual game in this? How play-tested is it?

How well supported would gameplay be in the following two historical periods: Pike and Shot, Wars of Religion style, or the Japanese Warring States period? I'm planning a wargame/rpg hybrid campaign with dynastic elements and my default option is GURPS.
>>
>>52319303
>How well supported would gameplay be in the following two historical periods
Very, if you keep it focused on individuals.
SoS has no "wargame" mechanics - yet.

As to playtested, quite a lot. We haven't seen a number of complaints resolved yet, but the system as it stands is very usable, if not entirely legible.

I'd look into the ASoIaF game to hit that kind of RPG/Dynastic hybrid.
>>
>>52319303
>Has anyone here run an actual game in this?
Many people.
>How play-tested is it?
Three or four years worth now.

>support in given periods
Everything is well supported until you get an overwhelming dominance of firearms around the 18th century. Using melée and ranged together works great, some of the balance and detail is off when it's only ranged. However, there's not support for wargame situations yet because the boys at Opaque are dedicated to getting the core shit right before building on it, despite the fact that loads of have wanted magic, mass combat, and infrastructure/wealth management for literally years.
>>
>>52319303
Depends what you want to do with the system

The game excels at personal 1v1 duels.

It can handle multiple opponents somewhat comfortably if you've learned how to do targets, initiative & declaration/resolution for multibouts.

You also have the option to run a fight for so many rounds before jumping to another fight.

The thread has run quite a few campaigns, particularly one-shots seem to be the most satisfying, so an episodic campaign might be best.

The system is heavily lethal and there is a good chance your players may die a few times

>Very, if you keep it focused on individuals.

That's all I need from the rpg side of things, I'm hacking the wargame part together myself to fulfill my needs. Most wargame stuff is focused on either balanced competition or strict simulation, and while both of those are nice most stuff isn't made for the purpose of crafting encounters for player characters.

Glad to hear it's got good material for Early Modern combat. I'll take a look at the beta for how it deals with guns.

>I'd look into the ASoIaF game to hit that kind of RPG/Dynastic hybrid.

Prior literature is always good to see, I'll see if I can pick it up cheap.

Thanks for the helpful thoughts.

Ye.
Guns are very modular to try and cover the range of advances from the 14th through the 17th, with a few later advances tossed in for good measure.
Rifles are pretty much always lethal if they hit using straight SoS rules, though an adaption with Ballad shooting rules is in the works that should even things out.
Regardless, as it stands, muskets and pistols work about how one would expect them to.

If you're building the wargame yourself, you should be good. Wealth management is a bit sparse in SoS right now, but between the Social Class guidelines and the Boons that are offered, a suitable estate and retinue should be easily homebrewed.
Do read the ASOIAF TRPG and get back to us, I'm eager for your thoughts.

Also
>>52319492
Take Dion up on his offer. Some good fightan to get the blood up is always a worthwhile exercise.
>>
>>52319474
If your homebrewed wargame turns out nice, share it with us.
>>
>>52303994
While some of those can be explained by stances and such, you're right that the abstraction breaks down pretty fast. Ballad solves it (how is that game so good?) by making talents universally applicable, so that it doesn't hurt so much to make Talents tied to your highest proficiency, not each proficiency having eigentalents or whatever you wanna call them
>>
>>52319474
Make sure you use the beta version of 1.9.9

So far Zellish Guts, Rich Man With Dogs, $500 Guy But Magic, the Waifumancer, and now Alligator Man have been proposed. Of course if Khopesh doesn't end up getting that Visionary slot he was offered that is an option.
>>
>>52321228
If khopesh doesn't get his slot he is the only option.
>>
>>52321228
Haki will give Khopesh that slot or I'll kill him myself.

If Haki doesn't then we'll let Khopesh have the slot since his catchphrase is basically the SoS catchphrase now.

Zellish Guts sounds gay
Rich Man with Dogs is gay
Magic is gay
Waifumancer sounded neat
Alligatorman the best, I vote him

What is the Tattered Realms version of Florida btw?

Presumably their entrance forces people back to bystander and resets the clash count and everyone re-declares orientation and target. If you think that's too much, add them to bout and only the new character declares orientation and target. Maybe make all non-red orientations redeclare.

I think an easy way to work with it is have maneuvers that are primarily vertical or horizontal, and in reach simplify it to lead, pure, and lag pursuit angles, with a possibility of an overshoot if a defender does a successful maneuver that would lure the attacker onto an overshoot.

In a similar sense to MP, I'm considering aircraft have bonuses or penalties to their dice pool based on the plane's turn maneuverability and climb rate
>>
I've run into a bit of a problem when trying to (re-)stat out 19th century firearms. I've tried to keep things fairly standardized. For muskets I went off half the listed effective range and converted into into meters. If there was a range band, I took the average of it.

With rifles it's harder. Should I just eyeball it? Divide the Springfield range by half, and the rest by one quarter?

On the wiki, the Springfield by contrast has a listed maximum range of 1000 yards (910 meters) and effective range of 200-300 yards. The 1853 Enfield has a maximum firing range of 1140 meters/1250 yards. The Dreyse has a listed effective firing range of 600m/650 yards. The Chassepot has a listed effective (not maximum) firing range of 1200 meters/1300 yards.

I'm tempted to just divide ny listed maximum firing range by three. The Dreyse is supposed to have a comparable firing range to rifle-muskets of its era, but be out-ranged by the Chassepot.

So, we have some cliches to go on here
>Knight orders Squire to retreat (maybe to escort some peasants?), knights him, dies holding off the threat while Squire skedaddles
>Squire ranges ahead to do something, gets into it with some skullduggerous blackguards, and the Knight is fatally wounded while rescuing him
>Knight and Squire run an errand, it gets dicey, the Knight dies along the way but raises the squire, but when the squire returns the court gossip convinces the lord that the squire was conniving to get the reward himself, and he's run out as a murderer
Or something else?

A wheellock Dragon firing Ball is TN5, 5p, AP6. If done outside of a bout, IE; using the Shoot manuever rather than Melee Shoot it cannot be parried, blocked or voided unless you're a specific Din species. Also iirc, you can only use PER dice to void, parry or block a melee shoot

Is there a way for knights as a class to exist in the Victorian era? Or at least having cavalry decked out in plate, using plate that is bulletproof and/or silversteel where possible.

Maybe as armored dragoons? A typical long gun in what I have statted out will do between 9 to 11 damage, with 0 to 3 AP. The damage values are higher than vanilla SoS and AP is lower so they can be used alongside Ballad firearms, since there's no way a musket should have higher AP than a small-caliber pistol round. I also have other firearms stat'd out like 6-bore and 4-bore firearms, but I'm not sure they'd be that common in conventional human v human warfare.

>>
>>52344002
>>52344012
Well, there's a few things specific to my campaign that I think help justifies armor:

1. Monsters and Undead are a thing, so armor can actually be effective when fighting them.
2. Starting income and Wealth is four times as much to represent industrialization and how some things like steel are much cheaper compared to the 15th century. Wages (including for Schools) and fantastical materials like Orichalum and Silversteel are four times as expensive to compensate.

Someone before suggested I use Social Class/Wealth at chargen to determine how much can be spent on various types of soldiers, so that is what I"ll be going with. Your average country will thus have around 12gp to arm each grunt.
3. Maybe the existence of Orichalum and Silversteel and point #1 caused interest in body armor to never fade out entirely, and as a result, body armor is more developed and in higher demand/supply compared to the actual Victorian era.

IDK if that goes far enough to justify more armored cavalry compared to the cuirassiers of the 19th century.

Oh, the game isn't set in the actual Victorian era. It's a fantasy setting with a similar level of technology (around 1860), except incendiary weapons are more advanced and prosthesis are a thing thanks to Burdinadin, and fighting Undead led to more interest in R&D for incendiary weapons.

You might dabble with the idea that more advanced methods of orichalcum microplating have taken place, or that colonial explorations have revealed new veins of the stuff.
It would still be highly rare and valuable, but it's properties as a "magic producing metal" would also make it fairly viable for burdinadin armor augments powered by the stuff to become commonplace once humans got the jist of it.
Heavy troops I'd give an armet, cuirass, and faulds of orichalcum armor at a minimum. If we go full power armor, anima down the limbs and pauldrons.
Silversteel is much less impressive, but focusing its use on skirmish troops so that they can be fully armored without sacrificing mobility would be a popular tactic, I think.

For the less invested people, a solid helmet and breastplate, and a formation involving a lot of guns, grenades, and flamethrowers. I'd expect a combination effort of halberds/bills to be used alongside shield troops once melee is expected. The shields are necessary to mitigate the extreme strength and danger of undead, and the hooked polearms can be used to drag them to the ground or otherwise disable them. Give the shield troops dragon pistols and hammers so they can finish the undead off.

>Silversteel is much less impressive, but focusing its use on skirmish troops so that they can be fully armored without sacrificing mobility would be a popular tactic, I think.

+2 AV may not be impressive, but half the weight is.

I mostly had the Orichalum/Silversteel scale with the increased income so it wouldn't be super common. But if that would be necessary for (bulletproof) plate to be more common than OTL, I can do it.

>I'd expect a combination effort of halberds/bills to be used alongside shield troops once melee is expected.

I was thinking integrated helian firecasters and pistols wouldn't be very uncommon for melee weapons. Combination gun polearms may be silly when the bayonet is a thing, but maybe not.

Well it's the same as the 1855 Springfield Musket?

Loading a chamber assumes you're doing it by with loose power+bullet. So that's:
>Cocking the gun
>Pouring a measured charge.
>Grease
>Ball
>Ramming
>Nipple

Maybe I"ll decrease it? I had a system for figuring out the Load of other muzzleloaders, but not revolvers. Loading a single chamber is a bitch. It can easily take 5+ minutes to reload an entire revolver cylinder.

Maybe 36 or 40? I"ll have to see. I did just lower the Load for flintlock/caplock muzzleloading pistols since they'd be faster to load than a musket with a 46" barrel.
>>
>>52353925
It certainly could happen. The Ohanedin tend to view homosexuality as a "human thing" that they feel themselves immune to. Even if they were not swayed emotionally in such a situation, most of them would rather let a captive go than have to explain the gay orgy they participated in to their elders. Too embarrassing.

FREAKY FASCISM FRIDAY
Sheris, the capital of Galli, has problems. Ten years ago, King Louis paid a host of Ohanedin to wipe out the goblins beneath the surface of his country. An army of the Din descended into the depths, hooked knives held in their teeth, and butchered for six months. The blood bubbled up through the dirt in some places, and every field in the country produced bumper crops.

When the Ohanedin emerged, it was with two-thirds of their original number. The King paid twelve brothels and four bath houses to provide unlimited service for his mercenary army for two weeks afterwards, and paid each man the value of his weight in steel. The Ohanedin enjoyed their reward and then left--famously, their Captain advised the King to hire a more powerful Lord the next time he needed work done.

It took one year for trouble to emerge from the catacombs beneath Sheris.

The Catacombs of Sheris--once one of the largest architectural projects ever conceived--span hundreds of square miles. An enormous labyrinthine complex of tunnels, tombs, crypts and mausoleums, all beneath the ground, built to accommodate the needs of the city to intern the dead.

It should be no surprise that when a Necrotic Presence--a natural culmination of the city's sheer degeneracy--took root in the catacombs, and began reanimating the corpses there as Undead, the Church of Genosus took an immediate interests. Sixty-four Paladins were dispatched (the largest number since the Dark Seed Event of 1918) to extinguish the thread. Each Paladin was given a squadron of men, and they descended into the catacombs to destroy the menace.

It has been five years, and the menace persists. Paladins perish and return the same day, so gorged on faith that they are bodily flung out of the gates of the Solar Temple. A revolving door of massacre and chaos. The catcombs continue to expand as well, as the Sherisians stubbornly refuse to bury their people outside of city limits. At least now, they entomb the dead in cement, to ensure that any dark reanimation is futile.

Mercenaries are always welcome in Sheris, as the war increasingly appears to be eternal in nature. A never-ending war of attrition with the dead beneath the city.

Maybe I"ll make it Load 50.

The lowest I think I"ll go is Load 36. With ADR 4 and Prof 10 that'd be LS 4, which means it'd take 9 rounds (or 54 seconds).

Every video I saw was someone taking a minute per chamber, give or take 5-10 seconds.

With revolvers you have one or two more steps, having to do the wad and then the gun butter, and ramming it doesn't seem that much faster.

Remember that this is for loose loads. Not paper cartridges. With paper cartridges you have half the Load, and the Rapid Reload talent will let you reload firearms twice.

I'll repost it, think it was only linked in the (((discord))) since it's basically Jimmy's fanfiction of his own product.

The Paladin stormed down the hallway, training a quartet of villagers. His helmet's visor was down, exposing only a thin line of a mouth and a chiseled jaw. “Explain the situation,” he commanded, as they rounded a corner.
“It's the Hall of Regalia, where the treasures of the ancient tribes are kept, m'lord,” one of the wizened men said, “there's a mirror there. There have been... Stories, for generations, as to its power. We had always disregarded them as wives tales, but just recently things have begun to happen.”
“What sort of things?” The Paladin asked, accelerating his pace. The bearded men struggled to keep up.
“First, a young girl was found staring at the mirror every morning for seven nights. By the third night, her parents had locked her in her room, but each time she somehow escaped and made her way to the mirror. They found her... Just staring at it.”
“What happened on the eighth knight?” The Paladin asked, turning his visored face to a different elder.
“They rolled her up in a blanket, and bound it with rope. She was found dead the next morning. Her eyes were... Like mirrors. Empty and reflective.”
“I have seen something like this once before. Her suffering would have been terrible,” the Paladin said.
“It gets worse, Sir, it began happening to more children, first in twos, then in threes, each night they would vanish from their beds and be found at morning in the room.”
“If they kept appearing after you destroyed the mirror, then it must be a haunting that encompasses the entire hall.”
“I beg your pardon sir?” a hitherto silent elder said, as they rounded yet another corner.
“If the mirror's destruction did not end the possessions, then obviously whatever dark spirits caused this were not bound to it. You probably built your village over some pagan burial ground, or-”
“Sir, we did not destroy the mirror.”
>>
>>52355107
The Paladin stopped walking. The elders passed him by several paces before casting about, and then turning back to him. He was hunched over slightly. The visor betrayed nothing of his eyes, but his mouth hung slightly open.
“You didn't destroy the mirror?”
“No sir, it is a piece of our ancient regalia, it represents--”
“It's killed how many children?”
“We didn't know that it was killing anybody, we thought to call a Paladin first..”
“You find a child staring into a mirror for seven days, and on the eighth day she dies, and you didn't destroy the fucking mirror?”
“Sir, we weren't sure we would be able to, it is clearly a cursed artifact, we needed expert guidance!”
“You don't need expert guidance to break a fucking mirror! For God's sake man, it's a layer of beaten silver under a pane of glass, this isn't master masonry we're talking about here!” he glanced about. They were back at the entrance of the building, having walked in a square about its outer hall, “which door was it?”
“The, ah, third one back sir.”
“Tell me when it comes around again!” the Paladin barked, and continued around for a second time.
“Are you saying that breaking it will solve the problem, Sir?”
“Yes! Why wouldn't it!? It's obviously a cursed mirror, what do you think the solution is, feeding it more children?”
“What if a demon comes out, or a vile spirit is released!?” one of the elders asked, frightened.
“Then you're slightly better off than you were when it was picking off your grandchildren from inside the mirror, there are at least a hundred men in this village, how did nobody form a mob and burn this building down already?”
>>
>>52355121
“Sir, we were afraid of such a thing, so we did not inform the people of our suspicions...”
“What!?” The Paladin stopped, incidentally at the right door, “It's in the scriptures that when a threat to your community reveals itself, you're supposed to gather together and burn the fucking thing whatever it is. How explicitly must we spell it out for you people before you get the message? Is this the door?” he pointed to an ominous door lacquered in black.
“Yes sir.”
“Yes sir,” the Paladin repeated back, cocking his head to the side in a mockery of dottage. He then turned to the door and plowed his armored face into it, smashing it in so totally that its wooden frame exploded in as well, spraying daub and wattle over all present. The pitch black room beyond seemed to exude a gust of cold air.
“God preserve us,” one of the elders said.
“Don't go over my head old man,” the Paladin said, drawing a torch from his belt and lighting it on a candle before striding into the darkened hall.
>>
>>52355138
It was an ominous place, full of placques, the bones of old heroes, and treasures from the tribe's ancient history. The Paladin made it to the middle of the room before he stopped to look around. The mirror, hanging on the opposite wall, didn't seem to reflect the light of the torch.
“Oh yeah. Yeah, no, this is some evil shit you've got going right here,” the Paladin took a moment to touch the torch to a tapestry nearby, setting it ablaze, “this place is burning. Where's a...” he glanced about, as some of the elders began to panic at the spreading flame. His sight rested on a helmet, and he grabbed it. It was adorned with bones and lacquer that made it look like the head of some terrible beast. He weighed it in his hand for a moment before flinging it at the mirror. There was a shattering of glass as the iron cap broke the glass and the backing. The mirror fell from its mounting on the wall and collapsed to the ground. One of the elders shrieked and leaped behind a large iron cauldron emblazoned with the terrifying visage of a dead king. Nothing happened. The Paladin stood there for a long moment, expectantly. Then he turned around and strode out of the room. The elders followed.
“I-is it done?”
“Of course it is. It was a fucking mirror. I can't believe they made me walk all the way out to the sticks for th-” the Paladin was cut off by a liquid growl. A low, monstrous thing with whistling overtones, and a vibration that shook his teeth in his skull. The Paladin inhaled through nose, and out through his mouth. Then he turned around, drawing the sword from his belt.

The thing that was waiting for him was indescribable. A mass of chitinous limbs, a slavering jaw sectioned in four places, compound eyes, and a segmented body writhing with whipping tendrils. Its blade-like appendages clacked on the stone floor like teeth pouring into a bowl as it approached.
“Oh a monster, quick, call a Paladin,” the Paladin said, as the sword in his hand burst into flame.

It's actually funny to imagine Jimmy as an insanely high level GM because he's so open and drunk in half of the threads, but everything that comes from a source other than him paints a picture of a ridiculously competent game runner.
>>
>>52356036
I think Galt was the GM and Jimmy was the narrator there.
>>
>>52356036
I will never understand Jimmy's bizarre stance on Christianity. It's like he's just internalized every negative stereotype about YHWH and said "yeah, that sounds about right." Like he took Richard Dawkins' version of God and accepted it out of hand.
>>

Drunk jimmy is also fun to play with
>>
>>52356130
This is the guy who writes Dace as this total fucking hellhole and it's the place he uses as the entrance to the setting, the place you're supposed to sympathize with.
>>
>>52356130
It all comes back to the Galt/Jimmy dichotomy. Galt had serious religious hangups, he was sort of torn in his faith, and his stories often had these emotional, beautiful crises of religion.

Jimmy is different. His faith seems absolute, but it's a faith in something nihilistic and cruel to the extreme. Everything revolves around futility and cosmic irony.

The perfect juxtaposition is Clovis Fecht vs Camillus Fecht. The moment when Camillus is literally rotting away and all he can say is "God!" is like a sledgehammer to the face. There's a reason why every good copypasta on /tg/ seems to come back to one of those two. I wish Galt were more involved, he's the perfect foil to Jimmu.
>>
>>52356214
>I wish Galt were more involved
Jimmy has purposely shut him out. He waited until Galt was gone before launching the Kickstarter, and didn't tell him about it until it's over. Galt, for his part, wanted to know about it and help by Jimmy's own admission, but Jimmy (and possibly the others) wanted to keep Galt out apparently purely because they didn't want to listen to his opinions on it.

>>52356252
It's kind of futile though. If Galt wanted to rekk his shit he'd just post here. There's obviously something going on behind the scenes here.
>>
>>52356287
Galt and Jimmy are obviously super Christian, even if Jimmy sees God as a lovecraftian horror. I'm curious what the other guys are. Is Bones Christian? Is Claymore Christian? Are they aware of how fucking weird their coworkers' religions are?
>>
Is Galt even real?

Conveniently out of the picture so Jimmy can jew all the glory.

Karl shakes his head. "No." he stands, and, reaching into his coat with his good hand, draws forth a small sack of silver from around his neck. He jerks its cord free, and tosses it to the squire. The boy looks surprised as he catches the satchel, and looks at his master, confusedly. "We are done. You have proven your... Innocence. Of the affront to my honor of which you were accused."

Clovis falls to his knees, and making strange gestures, mutters something to his sword, which is planted blade-first in the ground. He stands, sheathing the weapon, and approaches.

"You fought well, my friend. I have fought few of your valor and courage."

"Thank you. Tell me, Christian, what awaits those who die meekly, in your religion?"

"An eternity of peace. A world without sin. A cool light, and white fields."

"...That is not so bad. In my religion, those who drink deep of life, do as they will and regret nothing, and die in battle surrounded by their slain foes, go to Valhalla."

"What is Valhalla?" Clovis asks, genuinely, "I have been to the Holy Land..." he pauses, and his eyes go distant, and for an instant, fearful, "but I have never heard of Valhalla."

"It is an eternity in the house of Thor and Odin. A world of battle, of smoking fires, and willing bodies, where limbs can be hewn, but death will never come again. An eternity in the company of all those who die in this way"

The silence lasts for a long time. Finally, the two, clasp arms (Karl winces), and return to their steeds. Charles and Hilda fume, but lock eyes as they mount their own horses. They will meet again, they know.

As the two pairs prepare to part ways, Clovis speaks.
"My friend," he says, earnestly. Karl turns.

"We have Valhalla too, in our religion." his voice is not joyful. There is a note of realization there.
"Perhaps we will meet there," Karl says, and gestures in farewell.
"I think we shall." Clovis says, turning away. He hides the sorrow in his voice, but not well.

The alternative is that Jimmy has written a decade long narrative for himself and a guy who is his ideological opposite... Convincingly. He's too much of a drunken shit to have done that. That style, saying something is true and just rolling with it, as long as that something is trivial. The something has to be of a certain magnitude. It's something you'd maybe argue about with friends but they're just as likely to chuckle and believe it. It's gotta be 50/50. And its truthiness is presented like "oh yeah no this is true." In this case, the posited statement is that lions are in fact cats. And then this leads into a different topic. Only Jimmy writes this way.

There was a goblin like that in one of the first tourneys. She fought at H-3 I believe, and won via grappling her opponents.
As to negative reach, it just creates new levels of reach, being Hand-1, Hand-2. Or at least, that's what we did during the tourney, I dunno if there's an official stance saying otherwise.

The Myrmidon Champion surveyed the battlefield with sharp eyes, the wind ruffling the plumes of his bronze helmet. The battle was going poorly for the Arcoscephalians. Their mystics had entered a large communion and were raining meteors upon the foe, but the Marverni's blasted boars channeled a divine energy that returned wounds done to them back to the originator. A fleeing peltast stumbled past the champion, his left leg a ruin. The battle had just begun, but already the Arcoscephalian skirmishers had been routed by the boars, barely putting a dent into the animal horde.

A sour faced mystic finished chanting his spell and spread his hands, bestowing the Champion and his men with skin as hard as stone, while another bestowed a gift of luck upon them. The champion could see the Wind Riders, pride of the nation become translucent and otherworldly as they sat upon their pegasi and prepared to dive into the midst of the barbarian's mages. The Champion readied himself. The Boars were close, but bloodied. And though they healed their wounds, they would die readily enough to cold bronze.

The myrmidons charged, a wall of hardened bronze and where they struck, boars died in droves. Those strong of will resisted the effects of the Marverni enchantment, but a good number of myrmidons fell or were grievously wounded. The Wind Riders had fallen despite their ethereal nature, but they had done their job. Those Marverni mages that were not passed out from exhaustion were dead or fleeing. The boars, though gigantic and sacred, were nontheless still boars, and began to flee, trampling the hapless mages in their haste to exit the field. The Champion yelled and whooped. Arcoscephale had won the day.

It's a warm, humid day on the outskirts of Uralburg. The sun is shining, birds sing, and and there is not a cloud to be seen. A ways ahead of you, a white farmhouse can be seen, alone in the golden wheat fields around it.

It is, in short, miserable. Your coat is entirely too hot for this weather, insects buzz in and out of your ears, and visibility is perfect. Not the best conditions to attack an unknown position.

You and 5 other men have been tasked to launch a raid on the farmhouse, and to capture a UC agent who is rumored to be staying there.
Command has neglected to give you any other details, but it's safe to assume he has guards.

Anyone have binoculars? Either way, let's look around and see what we can see.

>Zells wear shitty tribal tattoos

Zells are the most plebian elves.

Lyosha hands you an antique spyglass. The lens is cracked and dirty, but its something at least. You extend it, scanning the farmhouse and...

Very nice.

You survey the farmhouse and its environs for a handful of minutes, as your fellows shift and shuffle with nervous energy. Eventually, you push the spyglass back together, satisfied with your recon, having gathered the following;

You noticed at least 3 shadows moving through out the house at various intervals.
The top window has a firing position of sandbags built up behind it, though it appears unmanned at the moment.
There is a small ditch going through the field fairly close to the house. If you come under fire, it could make decent cover.
The small shed attached to the house has a dirt path leading directly to the road. They could have a getaway car stashed in there.
Finally, you notice a black wire barely sticking out of the chimney. Though at first, you'd thought you'd imagined it, you're fairly sure it's an antenna of some sort.

Your partisan group is yours to direct.

Do we all have rifles?
>>
>>52365276
The odds are not in our favor here, besieging an entrenched enemy without numerical superiority. Our best bet will likely be splitting our forces to draw fire to one side of the house and move in from the other.

Has a good point, how are the men equipped?

For the most part. 2 of the guys have cut-down their rifles to better hide them, but they work well enough in close quarters, and 1 guy brought a Kuropatkin.
>>
What if we hide our weapons and casually stroll up to the farmhouse and ask who is inside? They may not think a group of 3 guys it too suspicious. We'll leave 2 with rifles in hiding and take the guy with the shotgun with us.

It's a plan, if nothing else. You could potentially swap your rifle for one of the obrez's to have a rifle on hand when you get to the house.

If the UC agent has decided he needs bodyguards more than obscurity, that means he knows, or at least suspects, that we're onto him. They'll find any men at all walking up to the house suspicious as fuck. They'll ventilate us if we so much as twitch. Our best bet is probably something like >>52365540.
>>
>>52365705
Our charisma is pretty fab, get the shortest guys to take the rifles down the ditch and stroll up with concealed weapons.

With surprise we could take the ground floor and trap the ones upstairs.
>>
How high is the wheat surrounding the house? Tall enough to use as concealment to approach the house, or some waist-level shit?

>>52365977
Waist level shit, but there is always the belly crawl!

If he has an escape vehicle at the ready perhaps he will try to bolt at the first sign of conflict? Send some men around to the other side and wait for him to drive out to light him up from this side?

We should send the guy with the kuropatkin around the back so he can cover the road in case there is an escape car. Revolver shotgun should be able to pepper a car pretty effectively.
