The new series outright has Aku say that he basically trolls Jack constantly because ruling the future is boring as hell and it gave him something to do, but after fifty years of doing it and Jack not aging and not being able to be killed by anything at all Jack is kind of a trigger word for Aku because trolling him his boring and all Jack is is a constant reminder that there is SOMEONE out there who will live as long as he does and whom he seems to be utterly incapable of killing who has the one tool that can end his life in a direct fight.

A villain in a game I'm in who has broad and treacherous plans to bring about destructive galactic war is petty and small minded enough that she hijacked control of a small, relatively meaningless combat tournament entirely to make the PCs lose and try to embarrass them.

How many times has Aku done this now? Like legit he did it in the series and then here in the comics

It was a comparatively minor thing, but one sci-fi game I was in us as interstellar industrial spies, and we made an ally in the form of a certain policeman in an alien empire named Emyek.

Anyway, we sometimes do favors for him, sometimes we call in a favor or two, and one time, just in a round of helping the NPC ally out, we smuggled a human pistol to him; it actually is less effective than some of the weapons that he has available, but most of the local weapons scanners aren't keyed to exotic weapons of a species that lives on the other end of the galaxy and is a tiny player in galactic affairs, and he could sneak it in.

Much later, we're actually investigating something on his homeworld, and we run into a classic villain who has legitimate authority, and could in fact influence police policy to a degree. And he was interrogating Emyek about us and our associations to him, and Emyek's a loyal police officer, he'll tell his stuff to a guy he's supposed to. And when he hears about the gun, he orders an apology for using "inferior alien gear", and then really makes the poor guy grovel in order to not be dismissed over something that isn't even against regulations, just against a powerful alien's personal prejudices.

She was literally wrong though. She wanted to destroy the force, but didn't seem bothered by the fact that the process that she used to do this was hilariously fatal for anyone involved. She was basically going to commit galaxy-scale genocide.

One of my players ran a Necromancer in an otherwise Good campaign, and it ended about as you'd expect. He trolled and lol'd his way through the party, and then somehow survived their attempt to murder him.

3 real life years and hafl a dozen campaigns later, and Nick the Necromancer still pops up as a wandering asshole, causing whatever shit he can, for whatever reason he can find, and then slip away just as the players realize THAT FUCKER GOT US AGAIN?!!?

He once firebombed a tavern (and the surrounding largely wooden city) in order to draw attention from the authorities towards the Party hoping to avoid the attention. He once dropped a Shoggoth on top of an auction the PCs were at, just because he figured one of them would get eaten (he was right).

And if anyone gets killed during a game and his body lost? Guess who gets turned into a hideous undead mockery of themselves? Everyone hates Nick.

The rider was long dead, and the horse was not at all involved in the battle. He was calmly resting in the stable, and just beheaded. Its head was put on a pike.

Now here you're expecting me to say "your soul" or something, and tell you that the item is cursed. No, he just wants a bunch of gold, but maybe 20% of the item's actual price. However, the item is actually just disguised by an illusion. Its effects when used are purely illusionary as well. Roughly 2 hours after it is bought, all the effects of the item are reversed, and the item itself is exposed as an impotent bundle of mud and sticks.

After buying from his shop, it mysteriously disappears, with only a laughter on the wind to any who go seeking it.

This story was done decades ago in a superhero deconstruction book called Elementals.

An ancient immortal evil takes the form of the dominant being on the planet, and has been playing parts in history all along. After leading the Nazis he is defeated when the main cast accidently travels back in time. So he spends his time waiting for them preparing for revenge, becoming the ultimate badass hero and when they first appear he joins them as their leader, leading them ironically to defeat himself causing the loop in the first place.

He causes the youngest member to become a depressed child star in a media scandal, one unable to cope with the PTSD he got in the team, and knocked up the last one before revealing his true identity to her in a gloriously evil speech and leaving her with a pistol to kill herself with.

After it fails because each was able to get their shit together they expect him to be disappointed. He reminds them he's been on Earth since life began, planning forty years of revenge was a diversion and he's no longer interested, having cultivated tensions in the middle east for his amusement while they were getting over what he did to them.

Like due to something the PCs did, not even intentionally and certainly not maliciously it just ruined this guys life or some aspect of it. And he fucking hates them.

There's no grand plan, no great designs or world conquests in mind. Just some wizard who you cost a lifetime of work and respect by selling some tablet you found in a tomb.

He doesn't even want them dead, at least not at first, just to suffer.

Jack can live without Aku. That's the whole reason he's doing all of this. The antagonist, however, has no purpose without the protagonist. There is no end state where Aku is happy. An eternity ruling over a planet of ants is not a live, it is a prison.

Jack can live without Aku, but Aku cannot live without Jack.

Well, except for when he found some kids cheering for the wrong side, at which point he gathered them all up and told them bedtime stories where he was the hero.

See, Aku doesn't need Jack either. He's made it pretty clear he can live a fulfilling life in the details, enjoying tampering with the lives of his citizens, like a person playing Sims. Heck, he turned Earth spacefaring just to start getting footholds in intergalactic politics and start to rule other worlds. He's got plenty more to accomplish, so much more to do than deal with some magic sword dangling over his head forever.

That said, I have noticed that Aku for the most part has a very hands-off governing style. He enforces no laws, just sort of lets those strong enough do as they please. He doesn't even have a central government they all report to. Heck, he doesn't even have a true army. He had demons, until he deemed them too slow, at which point he got robots. When they don't work he hires, that's right HIREs mercenaries.

The only thing he really seems to want is people offering him tribute and worshipping him. He is a demon after all. I suppose he only really wanted to be a god. A largely apathetic and cruel god, destroying those who will not worship and providing nothing to those who do. But only a god.

Man, I love Black Manta. Especially his modern incarnation where he basically doesn't seem to have any personality at all except when fucking with Aquaman. He's basically Jason Vorhees or Mike Myers in terms of personality. And he's a member of the Legion of Doom.

Can you imagine the poor schmuck that has to sit next to him in Legion meetings? Scarecrow's just sitting there, trying to have a nice conversation with Solomon Grundy (Born on a Wednesday), when Black Manta walks in and sits down and proceeds to just stare straight ahead, hands flat on the table, his only movement an occasional grinding of his teeth.

The Legion has supervillains and mad scientists and near-literal gods and demons, and Scarecrow is stuck next to a man, smelling vaguely of fish and blood, who mostly just wants to kill people close to Aquaman with whatever's on-hand at the time.

But at least it's better than the one time he tried to be social.

An nemesis to my party tracked us for months for the sole purpose of killstealing or debuffing us every time we fought something. Sometimes he would even go ahead to kill a dangerous creature we wanted to hunt and clean it's lair of anything useful, leaving only a condescending note.

Black Manta's kind of an interesting villain because he debuted as Black Manta and never took off his helmet or said anything about his origins; it was only like a decade after his first appearance that he revealed that he was actually a black man. He wasn't ever conceived of as being like all those other "black X' heroes or villains.

Black Adam is another interesting case of that since despite his name he's not, in the comics, black at all. He's white. Although in the upcoming Shazam! movie, he's going to be portrayed by Dwayne Johnson, who's black.

Then again if the Shazam! guys know what's up, then Captain Marvel himself will also be portrayed by The Rock, since Black Adam and Captain Marvel are supposed to look pretty much alike, or at least like they could be brothers.

He really is more Samoan than anything.

He's like Vin Deisel in that he can really play a shit-load of different ethnicities plausibly (Vin Diesel moreso from a voice-acting standpoint, but the point remains), which is a godsend in Hollywood.

There was one dude in one of my games was sort of an ageless Mage-King, but was focused on magic research (mostly unethical stuff, which is why he had to go down) and kept to himself in his castle, but he was still the supreme ruler of the land he governed, and while his rule wasn't particularly evil or onerous to his people, he liked to indulge in his authority in petty ways. Occasionally he'd walk around the city and do stuff like eat at a restaurant without paying, or ordering a guard to dance for him, taking stuff from a store, make fat people do situps, have random citizens run minor errands for him, stuff like that. People who disobeyed usually spent a couple of months in jail. The country was otherwise not a bad place to live, so citizens viewed as sort of an tax.

When we confronted him later on and asked about it, he explained that indulging in pleasures of the flesh was a way keep him grounded in reality and avoid the temptation of apotheosis. We didn't buy it, since his main topic of research was apotheosis.

Well I had a character who was the textbook definition of "for the lulz". A troll. A charming troll, but ultimately too bored to care about anything else than causing pain just to show he had power over people.
He had a magic coin in his pocket, one who would always reappear in his pocket as soon as it was put away somewhere else.
Some day, a beggar kid came in the tavern where the characters were having a break, asking for a bit of money from the patrons. He made a show of very obviously and warmly giving her the coin.
She went out, discovered the coin had disappeared from her pocket, came back and asked (loudly) for an explanation (for my defense, I didn't think she was going to notice so soon, but well).
So well, I took a very confused and pained expression, saying I did not understand, there was no trick and I was already out of money. The beggar girl ended up passing as a thief and a liar in front of every disgusted patron.

On a game I DMed, I made a nemesis for one of my players. He had named his character Ohmai, so for fun we decided he had a rival named Takei. Takei was also a textbook jerk from the PC's village because they were PCs and he was the chief's son.
The whole village went on a hunt for a giant bear who had been terrorizing them. They split into groups to search for it, one of those groups being the PCs. They, of course, found the bear first, and engaged it, which was a very bad idea, though they had least had time to blow the horn to call on the others.
When the others arrived, the PCs were almost all dead. In the middle of the confusion and the villager's volleys of arrows, Takei started shooting his rivals, because heck, nobody would notice. He almost killed one with an arrow to the butt.
Of course the players knew very well who was responsible, afterwards. But they had no proof, and he knew that.
Sadly, his PC rivals have since died (being replaced by new characters), so he'll never get his comeuppance.
