Pathfinder General /pfg/

Tian-Xia Romance of the Three Kingdoms Edition:

Would you play a game in Tian-Xia in this type of game? Or are you more of a Sengoku Jidai kinda guy?

I will admit the world has taken a large deviation from normal Nasuverse, and that means likely getting people acquainted with it will take time and a fair amount of effort. People not applying due to that required investment is something I am concerned about.

Particularly because even beyond normal stuff I am going to have to draw diagrams to explain the cosmology and how its changed in reference to deific beings vs. the spiral of origin.I have a feeling as soon as someone sees a diagram their brain will shut off.

>How cancerous /pfg/ has become with the rise of celebrity GMs/players, and the bullshit of those who desire the same infamy?
See the whole celebrity player thing I don't believe. Being popular doesn't help you get in games. DHB can't find a game to save his life.

I think the point is that most of /pfg/ is people circlejerking over the most visible people/characters and/or trying to force their own characters as memes now, not that those people are actually getting into games.

I know this is one of the things keeping away some people, there's no actual discussion of the game, it's just everyone sitting here jerking off over fucking X character, or jerking off over X player. It's not about PF, it's just this strange circle jerk that isn't even worth visiting if you aren't up on the latest memes.

And you people wonder why Devs don't come here.
>>
So, uh, are there any good recommendations and/or sources for short, premade modules to run through? Been itching to try some shorter games to try things out, but don't know where to start. Preferably meant for PCs higher than level 3, though the 5-7 range would be good.
>>
>>52301439
Didn't QANON get into some game based on knowing the GM or something?
>>
>>52301499
They work together perfectly fine.

And Sneak Attack isn't something you 'use' or 'do' so much as it just works whenever conditions are met.
>>
>>52301481
Yeah, it doesn't matter if they get in or not. It's the potentially weeks of characterfagging that happens with every app for every game.

>And you people wonder why Devs don't come here.

This is factually incorrect. Jolly comes here, the SoM playtest was posted here just the other day, and I know for a fact the other DDS devs post here since they keep commenting on homebrews that are only posted here.

It only seems like Debs don't post here anymore because DSP is kill, so they really can't post here anymore

If your going to rightfully insult the meme games, at least get your facts right first you retard

>>
>>52301566
Power attack is only mathematically better because on average, the damage bonus outweighs the attack penalty.

When you have some huge source of extra damage like sneak attack, this statistic changes, as you're giving up much more potential damage for the Power Attack bonuses.
Don't use power attack and sneak attack together.

Hi, friends! I'm about to start running Rise of the Runelords Anniversary Edition for a crew of six. They're an even mix of experienced gamers and less-experienced players, but I've been playing and running PF more or less for the past 10 years. Guess I never got around to properly running Runelords.

I'm having them look over races and classes this week, and we'll do chargen next week as our first session. I've asked them to avoid picking CN, NE, or CE as an alignment, but otherwise things are mostly open. Third-party stuff can be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Does anyone have any advice from personal experience on running that adventure path?

I'll be working on a campaign. Just need to find and fix my old notes

Sengoku Jidai x Three Kingdoms x Mongol Invasion

Grossly historically inaccurate, exaggerated for the sake of storytelling, ridiculously badass character portrayals.
I don't care for historical inaccuracies in character creation - You can be a wild west cowboy or a templar knight for all I care. This game focuses on large scale combat, chivalrous bushido duels, some politics and economics and all about becoming badass warlords. (For reference: Kyoukai Senjou no Horizon is my favorite anime)

4th level. 25PB (No stats at +5 starting), Core+Featured+Standard Races only. No Gestalt. As much as possible, try to keep class dipping to a minimum, I hate being nose deep in books trying to make sure your build is legit.
Background Skills + Feat Tax Fix houserules.
PoW allowed. Psionics allowed. No full casters. Early Firearms.

GMT +8 Saturdays and Sundays @ 8am to 12 midnight
Maximum players: 4-5

Yeah, this one makes sense.

>He's apparently soloing enemies
Didn't meant to have it be understood like that. He works in groups, which is why most that know him think he's off in one way or the other (Corrupt, degenerate, or whatnot) because of always doing the same last moment redemption chance thing.

>Where's all this goodwill towards monsterkind coming from?
I wrote it in the backstory-He knows from his training that there are still some emissaries of the false gods out there, and some are acting out of self-interest or still being actively helpful to humans (Have confirmed this detail with DM). These emissaries were created by the same evil gods that created the monstergirls, yet some have either forgone further service of their creator or gone and helped humanity insted. Monstergirls are presumably just as sentient. There should be a chance one may be redeemable, but may need some pushing towards it. There's a reason his Hedgehog's name is Dilemma.

Runelords turns out to be a pretty hard campaign path for parties that don't work very well together, or are just exceptionally greedy. Make sure you take notes on how party members act in accordance to the cardinal sins (lust, sloth, envy, etc) since it's a pretty neat feature in one of the late dungeons.

Make sure your NPC game is on point, players for some reason really like fucking with them. Remember, most of the people in Sandpoint, Magnimar, Turtleback Ferry and all that jazz aren't level one fresh-faced kids with no experience in the world. They got to the levels that they are somehow, and should act like it.
>>
>>52301499
You know, the thing that bothers me the most is that the bucklers are blatantly-wrong as opposed to just being fake; bucklers grant a +1 Shield Bonus to AC and lose their bonus when you use that hand to attack; you can't wear two because it's the same type of bonus (a Shield bonus).
>>
>>52302104
Which is why I don't get why the Sandpoint attack was such a big deal when the average Sandpointer is level 3-4, with plenty being up to 7, and having them revere the level 1 PCs as heroes.

Probably gonna apply with a character with a bullet lodged in his medula. The bullet causes him to see visions he is not sure are real or not, but have granted him strange powers. Gonna go heavy on the occult mainly focused on the idea of the Karmic Wheel.

Is this too hammy for weird west?

I mean, I guess you're not all that wrong, but I have 30+ statted NPCs in my RotJR campaign in Sandpoint and all of them are at the very least level 2, if not more, all taken from guides, sources and supplements.

Iunno, they just make it seem like there's a LOT of characters that are higher level than the PCs. Foxglove himself is like level 7, sure with mostly aristocrat levels, and sure he's a bit of a pansy that's too scared to fight after his doggo got fragged, but he would've given the goblins a run for his money if he stood his ground.

No, Bloatmages are literally fatasses. They get so fat it slows them down, and gives them natural armor.

>At 3rd level, a bloodmage becomes so massive that her rolls of fatty, blood-laden flesh grant her a +1 natural armor bonus. At 7th level, this bonus increases to +2 but reduces her speed by 10 feet. This penalty stacks with the penalty from the Bloodmage Initiate feat. This reduction in speed can never reduce the bloodmage’s speed below 5 feet, nor does it affect magical flying effects.

When every monster so far has tried to kill Drummond and few have tried to even reason with him, narratively it'd take a big event or one particular book to plant the idea in his mind that "HEY, maybe not all monsters are bad".

Perhaps if he came across a philosophy tome that had that "changed the way he thought forever" or something. In a story, simpler broad strokes are usually easier to grasp and convey.

Now that I think of it could pitch the idea with these changes.
Instead of Bloatmage could call it Arshea's Chosen:
Arshea's Chosen Initiate
Prerequisite: obedience (Arshea)
You cast spells from Arshea's portfolio domains at +1 caster level. The side effects increase your assets to such a point that you are constantly under the effect of a medium load-your maximum bonus to AC from Dex is +3,you gain an armor check penalty of - 3,and your speed decreases as appropriate (generally from 30 feet to 20 feet for a Medium creature).

Changes to the prestige class:
Carnal Pool
At first level, a Chosen of Arshea a pool of orgon points, representing an overload of her being with sexual energies to strengthen her communion with Arshea.
Nymphomania : Chosens of Arshe are particularly susceptible to hyper sexuality , and the DC of any spell which effects are associated to lust are 5 higher than normal. A Chosen who falls under the effect of a lust spell loses all her Carnal pool points.
Absorb Bloodline: Change blood for semen or girlcum.

>>
>>52303629
I believe there's ten knowledge skills in basic pathfinder, so each class you take that gives you Knowledge (all) would be giving you +10 to all skills.

Bard, Wizard, Investigator, and Psychic. You end up with four different casting lists, but by level 4 you have +40 to all skills (more if your game has extra knowledge skills involved). then, having wasted three levels for the sake of ludicrous skill bonus, you can just pick one of the classes and continue to level it with little fanfare despite having turned yourself into the ultimate skillmonkey.

the big thing is that companion creatures need two things to be effective

1: Autonomy, as there will always be shit you can't do when you're doing tagteam or mount shenanigans with your animal companion

2: The ability to enter small spaces. so it can actually do its thing. Small and medium companions can do this, at least, but it starts getting iffy once you hit large, nevermind huge.

This is why summoner is so powerful, by the way. Each character you control is doing their own thing. GMs should be able to cater to a build if you're set up for that sort of thing, though.
>>

Mounts also nned room to do their thing.

Well, yes. Elf Paladin MILF corrupted by a rage/insanity alchemical mutagen constructed by the BBEG. It was our hook to pursue the BBEG after Session 0. We had to disable her without killing her, which was up until that point the hardest fight we've ever had. Afterwards, she became an ara ara motherly type who cooked to go meals for the party and shipped her ranger son with the party's female Archivst.

And by shipped I mean the GM really pushed hard for those two players to get along ICly.

That was, by far, the best campaign I ever had the pleasure to partake in, even if I only got to use my character as I had intended him to be used once.
>>
>>52304481
Did anyone romance this kind-hearted, buxom woman?
>>
>>52304509
No. She became a super background character after like three sessions when we left the city and start and was never mentioned again after I think session twelve. It's been over three years since that campaign so I might be wrong on the numbers but I know for a fact the ranger's mom had stopped being acknowledged by the other players about a third of the way into the campaign.

That and the GM didn't like/approve of PCxNPC romances. He was strictly "PCsxPCs only." Hence him trying to make sure the ranger and archivist got along.

I have no idea how Martial training I works. Say I'm a 3rd level non-initiator who takes the feat for scarlet throne, and my wisdom mod is 1.

The second half of the feat description basically just says 'pick a discipline, then learn 2 maneuvers from it,' which is simple, I get it.

But the first bit says: 'Your martial initiator level maneuvers granted by this feat (and subsequent Martial Training feats) is equal to half your character level + your attribute modifier that modifies your chosen discipline for use with this discipline (example, Dexterity for a discipline that uses Acrobatics), not to exceed your character level.

What the fuck are 'martial initiator level maneuvers?' extra granted maneuvers?
>>

>>
>>52304640
I asked the same question a few days ago. It's a typo, it should be "Your martial initiator level /for/ maneuvers granted by this feat-"
>>
>>52304640
It's strangely phrased but some maneuvers add your initiator level to bonus damage. So for those maneuvers, is half your character level + the stat mod that governs whatever skill is granted by that discipline, and not to exceed your character level
>>
>>52304664
It also affects whether you can take the level of maneuvers the feat would have granted you in the first place. For example, if you take Martial Training V at level 11, but your effective IL is only 6 (5 level + 1 stat), you can't actually access fifth level maneuvers using that feat and have to settle for third-level ones.

Assuming corruption is removed incrementally, they can be topping her off every couple hours while she's asleep.

I'm not too sure about that, it's one thing to gush about a creature and another thing to be oversaturated with it, and by my understanding a critically low number of Pathfinder campaigns feature prominent Vilderavns.

At this point, a Vilderavn is thematically more suited to Nyrissa's goals while being a more interesting antagonist due to how they operate. You say it would be obvious, but at the same time Nyrissa being a nymph is obvious.

Though it does give me an idea for a backstory involving a NE Mesmerist who decides to transform a linnorm into a sex slave because he's got the most powerful mind magic, but after putting the alignment hat on her, he's assassinated by a LN Slayer or Paladin or something who has a very difficult decision: this cute girl is a linnorm who has been mind controlled and forced to become Lawful Good, but linnorms are also massive dicks in the first place. What do?

>At this point, a Vilderavn is thematically more suited to Nyrissa's goals while being a more interesting antagonist due to how they operate

Absolutely, which is part of why replacing Nyrissa with a Vilderavn would be an obvious move. If I hypothetically ran Kingmaker for /pfg/ and this is actually on-point because I've been working on a modified version of Kingmaker for the last two days, I expect people would be trying to guess which NPC is the BBEG in disguise.

Yeah, Linnorm are pretty damn "classic" in their use as primordial dragons. They're intelligent to a degree, but nowhere near as Machiavellian as your typical Red, sharing more qualities with Whites than Blues.

Fafnheir is one of the coolest villains to never get seen, and it makes me sad.

They tend to, yes. White Estrid has a Linnorm "pet" that knows some words, but it doesn't seem to be too much of a talker.

True, mind sharing the build? I'm curious about it.
>>
>>52305577
At risk of talking about things that I might never deliver on, if this project turns out to be too much for me to handle, yes.

First of all, I'm going to replace the campaign's BBEG with somebody else (and exactly who or what, I haven't decided yet), and change the campaign's plot so that everything isn't quite so invisible to the PCs. I also plan for the political power struggles of Issia and Rostland in Brevoy to be more prominent, something the PCs can interact with and even affect the outcome of. The rules for mass combat will be either cut entirely or reworked heavily, because they suck and I hate them. Also, and this part is purposefully going to sound vague, making money is going to be real important to the PCs.

Also, I want to change things about the AP enough that someone who has already played Kingmaker wouldn't have a metagame advantage. A lot of the same NPCs will probably still be there, but their circumstances could be quite different.
>>
>>52305688
>Are linnorms basically the school jocks of dragons, that are massive dicks, highly destructive, and not very smart?

Now you see why a sufficiently-powerful Barbarian can hunt one down, solo it, and earn a crown in the Land of the Linnorm Kings.

>True, mind sharing the build? I'm curious about it.

I've built Fighter (Vikings) that can solo a Linnorm at level 13, I can't begin to imagine how easy things will get when you throw a Warder (ZS) at it.

It's the ZS Warder that >>52305708 mentioned. Use the Scarlet Throne boost that lets you target touch AC, hit it with Primal fury's Constitution destroying strikes, rinse and repeat using your counters as necessary, since Warders are great at defense.

That strategy, simple as it is, can solo any of the linnorms save for Fafnheir himself, though the higher end ones sort of need you to be higher level, or the linnorm will win the numbers game.

Lowest Level you can guarantee it working (and, natch, the lowest level you're allowed to go on a linnorm hunt) is level 15, due to Turtle General Stance
>>

Hrm, I do like the linnorms.

Maybe to represent the fact that they're more primal than true dragons- what if we gave them kineticist levels and wild talents, equivalent to a true dragon gaining spellcasting as a sorcerer?
