Is it possible to play a LN character without being autistic about laws?

I made a Grippli druid LN because I figured I could just adhere to Grippli cultural norms and have a vague notion of natural balance.

Lessee... one wanted to be a noble knight in service of his beloved goddess. One isn't sure due to his amnesia. One is-

... Why do I keep having characters who really really want to work for their goddess. Is that my Thing now.
>>
>>52283559
It's beautiful for the Unchained monk, who has a Full BAB and can afford to lose that amount of attack bonus. A 3/4 BAB monk can't afford even -1 to hit.
>>
>>52283604
You kinda need a code of SOME kind, even if it's not like, legalistic. You'd need to stick to Grippli TRADITION rather than just cultural norms, otherwise you're just TN.
>>
>>52283604
Also my character is terrified of orcs, would it be dishonorable/antithematic to a LN char to run away from orcs?
>>
>>52283604
My current LN character doesn't care about laws so much as loyalty. If someone pays you or saves you then you owe them, and their "laws" slot in above other laws. Your captain tells you to do something then you do it, even if it breaks local law.
>>
>>52283604
Lawful alignments being related to adherence to the law of the land is a stupid meme that needs to die. Just give your druid a creed or code of conduct that he lives by.

Gamze for Review.jpg

Dipping into Legacy of Blood and Fire with Gamze bint-Samiri

>Sold to a wealthy family as an infant
>Family ignores her, and leaves the rearing to Haleen.
>Haleen leaves, Gamze turns to Harrow reading
>Contacted by spirits, and shown the secrets of Witchcraft.
>Leaves for Kelmarayn to find Haleen

A young witch, who places her faith in the heart of the cards.

Good:
A clever twist on the concept of a Cartomancer; I don't think I've seen someone focused on the mathematical/mundane parts of the deck before. This is also a pretty cool angle for a Witch, since it creates an immediate contradiction between the magical side (Witches being far more mystical in origin than any other spellcaster) and the rational side. Definitely play with the idea a bit more.

I like that the player included her thoughts on slavery; they show a bit of a darker side of Lawful Good, but I doubt they'll come up due to the nature of the AP.

The framework is all potentially interesting, it just needs more meat.

Bad:
More than anything, this character suffers from a lack of development. If I was going to expand on this, I'd probably focus on a couple of key ideas:
1. Her adoptive parents buying, then neglecting her is odd, and seems like it'd be a major part of her personality, but it's not really touched on. How does this affect Gamze? Does she love/hate/ignore her "parents"? Does she even consider them her parents? All things that could round out the character (especially since you have the Family Ties drawback).
2. Haleen raised her and is her driving motivation, but there's almost nothing about their relationship beyond a sentence fragment. Why?
3. I don't know what it is with /pfg/ and thinking "socially awkward" is an acceptable substitute for a real character flaw, because it's not. She needs something that makes liking her not super easy. There's plenty of ways to make her more than a generic moeblob.
>>
>>52284863
4. How did she gain Witch powers? What does she think of them? How did she come into contact with her Patron? You say it's "the spirits of the game" but that's not really an explanation.
5. Where does the Alchemy come in? If you're going to VMC with something, it should have some kind of a link to the PC, this one doesn't (from what I can see).

>Appeal 6/10, Moe as fuck, has one really good idea, and a bunch of decent ones. Whether they're developed and the character comes together as a rounded whole remains to be seen.
>Backstory 4/10, I hope it gets more interesting after revisions.
>Compatibility 8/10, Support-ish Witch with crafting abilities, and a personality that has little to dislike.
>Aaaaarabian Niiiiiights 3/10, not much ties her to this specific setting.

>>52284990
It'd have to be about a game where I didn't actually care about getting in, so I could make a character I don't want to play and decline if I ended up picked. I'd wait for reviews to start happening first, scan over the criteria, and craft something that panders to all the reviewer's arbitrary preferences.

All for nothing but a set of numbers.
>>

>>52284876
Whew, we meet again ReviewAnon2.

I have to admit I was a bit taken aback by (but also secretly enjoying) the memeing being done over my characters, so your commentary is really helpful.

I'll probably dig into her with what you said in mind soon, particular the relationship with her adoptive parents, Haleen herself and maybe a bit more about her powers. I didn't want to overinflate the backstory and make it a slog to read through, but I could probably stand to have another one or two paragraphs to better lay out my thoughts.

In my design notes, the Alchemist VMC actually represents experimenting with mind-altering substances to enhance her insights into the harrow, although I'll have to mull that over too depending on what the regional attitudes to drugs are.

So I'm trying to make a pretty okay build for Titan Mauler. What are some ways to build an unchained barbarian running this archetype? My DM did stats in a weird way, so I ended up with super high base STR and DEX. I've also picked up a belt of physical might +2 dex and con putting me at

22/22/16/10/10/8

I find myself unable to do any specific build well, and I continuously get overshadowed by my teammates. I've tried going for sword and board trying to get a higher AC and then just charge in, I've tried just going pure damage with a large greatsword, I've tried doing range but then I realized that was disgusting, etc etc etc. All the different builds that I try just proves to me that I am just really shit at building characters. Knowing all dis, how do I make it so I can actually be a useful member of the party?

Uniqueness helps! Flaws are must, but the character can't be *too* flawed, else they become unlikeable. Best Example: Thalafel from HV2.

>Backstory, doesn't overstay its welcome and isn't bogged down with necessary details, but also fully explores and fleshes out the key moments that have made your PC who they are today. Bonus points for showing rather than telling, and light dry humor. Closest Example: Winston from HR

>Compatibility: Character needs to slot effortlessly into almost any party, without stepping on anyone else's toes, or causing unpleasant friction.
Closest Example: None I can think of!

>X-Factor: The character needs to be one that really could only be played to their full potential in the given setting. Ties to major ideas and themes of the adventure are a must! Just make sure to not be too ensconced, to the point that the adventure revolves around you.
Examples: Noel from HR and Onryou from RotJR.

Do all that and I'll be more than happy to give you a perfect score!

>I didn't want to overinflate the backstory
I don't think you need to add a ton, just enough to gives us a bit of insight into her mental state, and how the event has shaped the woman she is today. For this kind of writing, the summary of an event isn't nearly as important as how the character reacted to it.

Lawful is more about being consistent really. You have a code, or a directive that you follow and you act consistently in accordance with it. Chaotic characters just act in whatever fashion takes them at the moment. They may be good, but they could decide that stealing from that rich asshole is for the greater good and do it anyway. Neutrals on the Law/Chaos axis will decide be sort of flexible on the matter, maybe deciding that robbing the rich asshole is a bad thing and not doing it, then having a change of heart the next day and and going ahead with it. A lawful character would decide that stealing is bad and never steal again unless it was absolutely necessary for their survival or that of the world. Okay, maybe not *that* extreme in some cases, but you get the idea.

Lawful means acting in a predictable manner. You can be counted on to always be consistent, be it always waking up early or refusing to harm a particular kind of creature that's sacred to you. The challenge will come with making a decision of how your character will act in certain situations and sticking to your guns. It might be easier to survive if you cut down that tree to make a bridge and get away from your pursuers, but if it's a sacred tree to your people and you're forbidden from touching it then oh well, guess surviving is just gonna be a bit trickier.

I'm F/SN anon from yesterday.

The game would be set during the 9th Holy Grail war occurring in 2021 in San Francisco.

I personally have run 6 other Holy Grail wars with the 1st and the 5th being backstory wars (I ran 2-4, added 5 as a backstory war, and ran 6-8). All the previous ones were for my in person group. Most often I would take Lancer as an NPC servant in order to facilitate a better Holy Grail War. Here is the previous list of servants.

Because all previous games were run for my in person group I never had to compile a list of lore. A lot of shit happened and we have a canon for the Fate/Last Path holy grail wars going back to 1802 in the game world. So it's probably gonna take me a while but I'm gonna have to compile a setting document of summaries of all the previous Holy Grail wars, what happened to various servants, the masters (surviving and no) and the changes to important organizations like The Clocktower and the church.

Right now I am here to answer any questions about the game's canon. It helps me organize my thoughts.

Also for the game's building here is how a servant will be built:
>level 12
>30 pb
>mythic 5
>only PoW except for caster who gets Spheres Casting
>you get a single 9th level maneuver as a Noble Phantasm, or a minor artifact built using specification I give you
>each class gets a set of extra skills in addition, like Magic Resistance, Presence Concealment, Battle Continuation, Mad Enhancement, etc. these will be in the document I'm compiling
>every player gets randomly assigned a 5th level Master PC I build
>you mostly control this Master except for a modified version of Hero points called Fate points, they do a few different things compared to Hero points
>you earn a Fate point every time I have your Master do something against what you want them to do or if you master sacrifices a Command Seal

Willing to answer questions.

Best part is the guy wouldn't even be disruptive. His entire theme included you having to give him things to destroy, he wouldn't take/steal and destroy. Plus he had a whole part where he talked about keeping soldiers under his command comfortable and fed to ensure his own safety.

The guy was an ideal coworker.

Personable, professional, ruthless when needed, takes care of his own. PLUS he was the only support/ranged character of the bunch.

He just so happens to have some bad hobbies.

>>
>>52285507
>incestious

I was thinking of the other kind of incest
>>
>>52285562
I imagine something as complicated as prosthetic clockwork arm has some very delicate machinery inside of it. If you were to get caught in a sandstorm or something, it would probably be catastrophic.

>>52285562
Depends entirely on how you treat them. They won't be gummed up in a day unless you're literally rolling around in the sand. Even then hinges are not designed to allow grit to just get into them. Clockwork is more of a concern but generally they're enclosed in some way. So the answer is as long as you maintain it nothing should go wrong.
>>
>>52285498
How do you get the perfect blend of tiddy and thicc with these rules?
>>
>>52285562
>>52285594
To continue with what >>52285591 said, if you were caught in a sandstorm the clockwork may very well grind to a halt and require fixing.

Every day use outside of such conditions should be fine though, especially with regular maintenance. That's for clockwork. Hinges should require even less work.
>>
>>52285562
Is the clockwork actually noted as having any downsides, or is it just a magic item themed as clockwork?

If the latter, then any gearing is going to be immune to normal rust, have the same durability and hardness as a magic item, etc, and the only necessary maintenance will be the same offscreen stuff as any other magic item.
>>
>>52285507
>Sometimes I wonder if /pfg/ games are becoming too incestuous. I tend to see a lot of the same names across various games.

I think it's kinda inevitable.

The people get in and stay in games are the ones that are generally fun to play with, and are good at writing engaging, interesting applications.

Writing and people skills aren't something that develop overnight.
>>
>>52285437
Part of the draw is that the clothes don't really fit right, 'cause the character is returning to adventuring after a long period of merchant work and motherhood.
>>
There's a point where you've just got to stop changing and adding to your app and go with what your got, or at least accept that it's as good as it's gonna get. I think I've finally reached that point.
>>
>>52285603
High Dex, high Con, high Cha, medium-high Strength. A large hit die, good fortitude save, and arcane spells (Bloodrager or Magus). Playing a Dwarf helps, and there's also a "Thick" trait introduced in Pathfinder Vices.
>>
>>52285507
It's natural, GMs will eventually find players they like, and it's generally preferable to play with people you like than people you might like.

The hope is that there's enough cycling that no matter how incestuous the community gets it won't matter, because games will fill and then games will be hosted and the players already in games won't be able to apply because they're already in games.
>>
>>52285623
This sounds about right to me.
>>
>>52285623
Plus if you play with people that you generally get along well with and enjoy, then go off to GM your own game, you're likely to want to play with those people some more.
>>

>>
>>52285623
So what you're telling me is DHB is never get into a game?
>>
>>52285562
I feel like it COULD be a problem, but really only if things get bad like a massive sandstorm, or you don't prepare for it.

Like, I had this thinking about the Zeraphi in Torchlight. As far as I can tell, they're robots. But why would they cover themselves in basically mummywraps? Simple. To keep sand out of where it shouldn't be.

I mean, you don't want sand in your eyes, you wear goggles. You don't want sand in your mouth and nose, you wear a scarf or something over your face. You don't want sand in your robobits? Wrap that shit up, son.

Basically, I don't think it's that much of an issue. If the DM wants it to be at least partly an issue, make it a Survival check which varies depending on the weather/environment, since 'shit keeps getting in my robot parts' could be a problem in any kind of environment, really. So a person with good Survival would know how to best mitigate that.

Reina

Keeping this brief, since (despite the hour+ I spent going over the app) it turns out I still don't have a ton to say about this character; which annoys the fuck out of me. Her backstory isn't particularly unique, but it's serviceable, and includes plenty of fun little character moments. Her personality is also decently developed, even if it falls into the same "awkwardness is my only flaw," trap as so many other PFG apps. Compatibility shouldn't be much of an issue, both personality-wise and mechanically. But despite all that, I don't like this character, and I can't really figure out *why.* Something just bugs me on a fundamental level, and no matter how much I try, I can't articulate it. The closest thing to a reason I can come up with is that the character feels... artificial. The pieces fit, but if you look closely you can see they were kinda forced to together. It's like the player studied all the successful apps, processed all the memes, the builds, the shipping, everything; then fed it into a giant computer and this is what came out.

The perfect /pfg/ game app.

Am I being fair? Hell no.
I know that, and I'm really sorry I can't give figure out how to give any actual feedback.

And with that I'm out for tonight. Hopefully going to do more LoBaF, along with some RotRK tomorrow.

>>
>>52285906
I don't think it's that important really, "Outlander" is a campaign trait. One that everybody is using.
>>
>>52285906
Of the men?
Tarani was raised among a bandit clan, Shanan was born in Kelmarayn and grew up a devout Sarenite, Tatheryus is from somewhere in the wilderness (ever notice how ratfolk apps always seem to spend half their time explaining how ratfolk society works?), Juin is somehow a respected cavalryman despite having the Earning Your Freedom trait.

Otolvian might as well be from anywhere for how much it influences him, and everyone else just took Outlander for the initiative.

>>
>>52285995
I was debating that for some time. However, I thought visionary would stray too far into religious territory with visions from unknown powers and all that. He's supposed to be someone who doesn't factor things like religion into his helping people, that's just what he does. I dunno, I do feel like outlander is an obvious choice but I couldn't justify the other options to myself.
>>
A player is playing a warlord with Golden Lion manevers that has the boost "Circling the prey" that basically gives every ally a free five foot step. Now, my question is - since he used it like this, whether the initator can use a five foot step, then use this boost (which is a swift action) to gain another five foot for free, basically making him move 10 feet and still then able to use a maneuver that is a standard action or a full attack option?
>>
MILF-elf will probably have Visionary, but I can't decide if it would be funnier to have her a divine class and have explicit deific support despite being a bit nutty, or to not be a caster and have her be so Don Quixote deluded self-confident that she lucks into actual divine guidance.
>>
>>52286112
Yes.

Keep in mind the action economy, though - that maneuver uses a swift action, and those are super valuable to PoW types.

Do you guys think it helps one's chances of getting in on a game to open a dialogue with the GM, or frequent a discord/IRC room?

Detractors would say it encourages favoritism and cronyism.

Bon-Bon (actual name: Airyna Dietou)

>when the world goes mad, people gotta laugh,or they'll go mad along with it.

>Airyna earned money by people laughing at her. It's a living, even while there's less mirth as she goes.

I should treat each app as its own, Bon-Bon feels very similar to Mira Cashmere in quite a few ways, though both are distinct.
Both have a particular gimmick - Cashmere with her clothes and Bon-Bon with her jester style. Both are kindhearted and wish to help others. Both suffer from worries behind their facade of cheer or beauty. Both draw the eye, though for different reasons.
The main difference apart from the gimmick is that Bon-Bon manages to build and show her character in about half the space and words. This is not necessarily the best bonus - shorter does not always mean better - but I can say with confidence this app is short, snappy and to the point.

GOOD POINTS: Solid branding and memeabilty. Stands out as one of the more joyful characters. Easily understood motivations and simple to grasp. Straight and to the point.

BAD POINTS: The normal complaints apply - could make better use of special heritage such as her nightwalker traits - not integrated at all into the story, little named NPCs... That's all I got.

Airyna has a simple background app, and frankly that's OK - either she'll hit or miss with the GM's tastes. Minimalism with a gimmick is a trick I've tried myself (though results have varied). As such, I'd be loathe to suggest any massive overhauls.

>Appeal: Varied/5 It really depends how much you like clowns.
>Backstory: 4/5 Short and to the point. Shows of what's salient, but not much else. Matches with personality.
>Compatibility: 4/5 Bard casting and will boosting is good, but Bon-Bon looks like she'll have to be defended somewhat in a battle.
>Setting accuracy: 3, 4/5 Kind of wavering on this. Jesters make sense in courts but something bothers me about the backstory. Possibly her moving to the capital so easily - one might need to spend a small fortune getting there safely and jestering in small community isn't going to pull in big bucks.
>Sexual potential: sexy clown outfit/5 [145.9] clown is honking in dorms again.

DEAD RELATIVES COUNT: 1 confirmed!

WHAT MIGHT BE DONE: As said, this one's a very compact app compared to quite a few others, and the directness of it is a benefit. The most I might do is slip a line in there explaining how she survived to get to the capital and picked up a bit of fighting skills, and perhaps flesh out the personality with a bit more fluff.

Other than that, it's pretty solid!

Let's see who else is up next!

I haven't made changes to Cashmere's app yet, but it's interesting how she's come across as benevolent and optimistic above all else.

Her morals are important to her, but she plays the social game, and tries to project her air of dignity and prestige first, with her kindness more hidden. (Insert blatant fancy clothes/outer appearances metaphor here)

The funniest thing about Cashmere is I just wanted to play a fun caster and I only realised Silksworn's inherent lewdness after building it

Keep up the good work!

Coming to think about it, Bon Bon is a tad closer to Sage in current personality. But yes, it's possibly due to her "perfect appearance" aura that was presented. Such a wonderfully warm and beautiful person would of course be kind and gracious and caring of others... right?

Excuse me, but I have a quick question: how exactly do prepared casters work? Do I prepare a list at the begining of the day, and can cast anything from that list up to my daily allotment of spells (so I prepare Charm Person and Grease, and can cast any combination of those a total of X times)? Or do I have to prepare N number of spells to only cast N times (I prepare 2x Charm Person and 2 Grease)?

Have a picture to catch your attention.
>>
>>52288080
> Or do I have to prepare N number of spells to only cast N times (I prepare 2x Charm Person and 2 Grease)?
This

If you have 4 slots, you can prepare 2 Charm Person spells and 2 Grease spells. And cast Charm Person only twice during that day

>>
>>52288080
The latter. If you have 4 first-level spells in a day and 2 second-level spells per day, you can prepare 2x(first level spell), 1x(other first level spell), 1x(other first level spell), and 2x(second level spell), or something similar

let's say I'm a wizard, preparing my spells for the day. I have four level 0 spell slots, four level 1 spell slots, and two level 2 spell slots.

As I can cast cantrips endlessly without burning out my level 0 slots, I need not prepare multiple of the same spells in said slots. As such, I prepare the following for my cantrips:
>Prestidigitation
>Mending
>Light
>Detect Magic
this means these abilities are usable at will.

In my level 1 spell slots, I prepare
>Sleep
>Summon Monster 1
>Summon Monster 1
>Charm Person
This means I can cast Summon Monster 1 twice today, while I can only cast Charm Person and Sleep once today.

In my level 2 spell slots, I prepare:
>Scorching Ray
>Summon Monster 2
this means I can cast each of these spells once today.

If I have any spells left over when I prepare my spells again tomorrow morning, I have two options - i can either abandon the spells I have prepared, or I can just refill the slots I've used up. this is very useful in the event that something prevents me from preparing spells tomorrow morning, such as if someone destroyed my spellbook.

Ah, I was voicing why I believed WWW GM might be annoyed. I'm not currently advertising my setting for games.

>>52288080
You have a number of spellslots. Say, two 1st level slots and one 2nd level slot.

You choose 3 spells at the start of the day, matching to your spellslots.

So, Charm, Grease, and Rope Trick.

You can cast each of the above once and once only.

So, you can charm one dude, grease another dude, then rope trick the fuck out.

You CANNOT cast charm 3 times, or grease or rope trick. You set up your loadout, cast each spell once, and then you're done.

Next day, you can change which spells you can cast. So, you choose today two burning hands spell but leave your second level slot open.

You can cast Burning Hands twice, and you can sit down for 15 minutes and choose which spell you want in your last slot whenever you want, so you can cast Comprehend Languages if you need it, or Detect Landsharks if you want to be flexible.

Hope that helps!
>>

Thanks guys. This is my first adventure into the world of 3.PF and some things aren't written very clearly. At least I know enough to stay away from martial characters, even though I would love to play a swarthy, sarcastic swashbucker, but the sheer number of feats I would need just to work as I want it is enormous.

Oh, well. Druids can be fun, right? Oh, one more thing. For a Druids nature bond, should I take an animal or a domain?

Swashbucklers can be done, but only if you have a decent level of system mastery. Definitely not something to play as a first attempt. good call.

Animal companions are the much better early game options; if you hit level 11 or so, they fall by the wayside next to the power of domains, but until that point the animal companion is generally a better pick, and isn't vulnerable to the vagaries of things like spell resistance or antimagic zones.
>>
>>52288220
Interesting. We're starting at level 4, and I don't expect it to last to level 11. I think I'll take the animal, and if by some fluke of the universe this game lasts a long time, I'll roll up a new character.
>>
>>52288265
If you want my recommendation, grab the War Bull animal companion - it's one of the very very few animal companions that gets to large size by level 4, and riding around on a yak or buffalo sounds hilarious.

also, don't feel the need to swap that late into the game - by that point you'll probably really enjoy the character, and you don't lose much power at all for sticking with a companion over a domain.

I think some people originally thought that it was mostly going to be grimdark with the ever present threat of monster rape, but the first time that Vult has consistently changed the rules to ensure that rape happens should have dispelled that sort of thought right quick. >Isn't corruption that causes transformations permanent?
>Isn't the difficulty set so you require transformations to remain competent?

>If you become overwhelmed from a forceful transfer of corruption, a poison held in all bodily fluids much like a disease, Nightwalkers have a chance of absorbing the essence of the source, their bodies transforming into aspects of the other's body. These transformations only manifest at night, melting back into the body under the light of the sun.

It's unclear, but sounds like that's entirely optional. You'd have to actually be beaten past your HP corruption point to get transformed in the first place, and it only happens at night.

>>52288954
Monsters can't attack in the day, silly! The sunlight stops them from attacking per the setting lore. You're literally just shitposting whatever you hear in the threads and making up stuff on your own.

>>52288993
Wow, someone's being awfully defensive. IT WAS YOU, WASN'T IT?
>>
>>52288956
Corruption doesn't automatically lead to transformation. It just knocks your character out if they fail their Will save.

Monster sex has a, relatively, high chance of imparting a transformation. Some of them might make it impossible to go below a certain corruption amount, but permanent corruption alongside transformations just means the character would get killed off immediately.

2hu doesn't do that, he advises what the optimal move is at the current time.

So he'd carefully and dutifully explain what the best way to get the three headed wolf to come faster and then how to best use the new "in heat" corruption transformation feature you gained to lure other beasts away from the party.

I never thought I'd say this, but in light of all this PLD shitposting I would actually prefer the RotJR shitposting from yesterday.

>>52289104
Y'know, I do that sometimes when I play- when i know how granular the combat system can be, and I know just the right movement and attack choice necessary.

Perhaps this is a good time to realize that all of us, truly, aren't afraid of the 2hu out there, the alien, the strange. Instead, we really fear the 2hu in all of us- the urge to optimize, to be 'austistic' about details and power levels, a burgeoning appreciation for 13-year-old anime girls.

Considering the setting's limitation on 9th-level casters, the party would find it exceedingly difficult to obtain this spell in a timely manner.
