They controlled the world through light nudges and chosen champions, they created angels to serve them (And oh what a bad idea that turned out to be; Cúchulainn for example, who was specifically created to drink the sin of the world and make it pure, but instead drowned in it).

And the more interesting part is that the Occuria did nothing wrong, when Venat, Vayne, Vaan and Friends inadvertantly foiled the ability of the Occuria to direct the world, everything was set upon a slow path towards inevitable decay and despair, culminating in the Ivalice we see in Vagrant Story, a world that fell from neutral bright all the way to neutral dark.

The Viera definitely fit the elven stereotype better. I mean, you could also make a case for the Aegyl.

I've only had them in my game a couple of times, and I always do the old fae. The ones who wait their time in the old halls below the earth, the ones who spirit away minds and kids, and maintain the old deals from back when people were scared of the forest.

My players have enjoyed the change of pace from the average D&D fare, and I've enjoyed getting to steal from folk lore with reckless abandon.

I like elves that are shorter than humans but taller than dwarves.

Also I prefer for a setting to only have the 'wood elf' style elves. The primitive tree fort elves who have some magic stuff that can substitute the things humans and dwarves enjoy with their technology, like magically affecting trees to grow into useful shapes for them and such. But the magic is a bit low-key and subtle.

I'm not a fan of the 'high elves' who are like the master race relative to humans and other races and have these super magical metropolises and shit. I just find it boring/lame. Also drow elves are kinda dumb

I like them as a softly chaotic people, life is too long to dwell on a single love or grudge. I like them to seem a bit flippant and silly to outsiders, but even a briefest amount of time to an elf is like 10 years to a human.

That always struck me, the Occuria didn't seem to be doing anything wrong. They handed out a superweapon to a human they liked, let him create an enlightened, prosperous empire, then took the weapon away when his descendents turned out to be idiots. There's nothing innately evil in that since the resulting nation was pretty good for everyone.

Their interaction with the protagonists aren't even hostile. Sure the ghosts they used on Ashe and Vaan are manipulative, but they didn't force anything, they just wanted Ashe to be the new ruler of an enlightened empire and scouted Vaan out as a potential backup choice if Ashe rejected it.

It's not even like they were human supremacists. Those yeti-hawk guys were their first choice, they just defaulted to humans because the other races either refused outright or were too lazy/slow to make proper use of the nethecite.

Elves are from Norse mythology, and in Norse mythology, one of the only places that will survive Ragnarok is going to be a place in the land of the elves. Only two humans will survive, but presumably many more elves will, since it’s their home and logically they'd take shelter in that one area that was untouched. As such, instead of being the doomed elder race of the past, you could view them as being the race of the future, who will inherit the Earth after humanity falls.

Okay, so, that's real mythology. For an actual fantasy setting, simply say that the elves once did a great service for the Gods (or at least this is what their own religion/history states) and in return they were promised to get the Earth after humanity dies out.

So, for all these centuries, they've been waiting for their turn. But now humanity is expanding, exploring, thriving, and the elves are starting to wonder if they'll EVER die out. Some are even starting to think maybe they should "hasten" the process. Others are trying to mingle with human society, to make the best of things while they wait for their promised dominion of the Earth. Some are even trying to explore AHEAD of the humans, claiming the lands the humans haven't already taken.

For a civilized culture, compare them to some of the later Chinese dynasties; utterly convinced of their own superiority to other cultures, they shut their borders to outsider, only decades later those "inferior" cultures show back up, and while the xenophobic society hasn't advanced or change, the outsiders HAVE.

Sauron is, essentially, written as the *perfect* magical girlfriend (male) with regards to Melkor.

This is actually the biggest and weirdest personality element of Sauron to me -- the way he was motivated by true devotion to Melkor, and had no reason to be evil until a Maiar (?) sent to apprehend him gave him one.

This isn't to suggest I think they fugged or came close, but the borderline gay relationship that trap artist gives them kind of conveys it well -- though yeah its kind of unfortunate the main way to demonstrate total adoration and devotion is by implying they want to fugg. Even if its totally platonic and the beings involved are not sexual at all.

Fingolfin is Noldor, who are typically black haired. While Fingolfin's own hair colour wasn't specified anywhere, all Noldor who would happen to have different hair color (mostly because of intermixing with other elven tribes) were usually described as rare exceptions - at example, Fingolfin's brother, Finarfin. One would assume that if Fingolfin was also blonde it would be mentioned anywhere.
But many artists paint him as blonde, which is quite dumb. Some at least have reasons for that but those are usually stupid, like differentiating him from Feanor (lkie there are only those two charactewrs in Silmarillion so they need to be opposite, kek) or showing "contrast" of his "goodness" to both his enemy and other Noldor (but blonde hair=good is quite lame trope). But mostly they just go with elf=blonde trope without any deeper thought about it.

Gurthang is more eloquent and it's better at getting what it wants, eol's black swords are either indelibly fated to cause kin-slaying or fuck fate sideways to get the same effect. Stormbringer might be good at manipulating the wielder, but with eol's stabby meteorites you'll only realize your sword is getting smug after you've fucked up and a city full of Noldor is on fire.
Also, Stormbringer might well be Lucifer, Gurthang and Angurial are, at their least sinister, lumps of melkor-imbued exotic matter fashioned into proto-ring magical devices to eternally propagate Eol's will to spite the Noldor. At worst Eol's swords are Ungoliant style intelligences from outside of creation, given the shape of weapons by the rapist elf, with cutting power that resembles a no limits falacy.

Even if it didn't, contact with the enemies arrows would throw them off trajectory.
Even if they didn't, all you would accomplish is showering your army in jagged wood chips and arrow heads. "Shit hits the fan" is a phrase for a reason.
Even if THAT didn't happen either, the counter-arrows probably wouldn't be as devastating to the enemy army as they appeared to be, unless they were made out of fucking helicopter blades or something.

You're better off just sticking something thick and possibly metal between you and the incoming arrows, like we've been doing for centuries.

I'd just like to add that giving the dwarves intricate, mechanical weaponry that make goblin devices look primitive by comparison and industrial foundries similar in size to the entirety of Isengard totally misses the point.
