Why exactly can't you animate skeleton inside living human?

Is the crap about some positive energy suffusing living beings the only answer? Even if that was true, should pumping a bit more power to overcome this resistance be enough?

How is living qualitatively different from being dead?

Most magic systems require you to be able to see the target of your spell.

The living person resists the spell.

What would the ability to do so add to a game?

If you allow that sort of invasive magic to work easily, all the old tricks like tiny changes in temperature inside the human body or pinching a blood vessel in the brain make it trivial for almost any form of magic to cause instant death, paralysis or what have you.

If you want a rocket tag game where the first person to successfully cast a spell wins, go nuts, but that doesn't sound like a particularly fun dynamic to me.
>>
With that logic you can just cast raise undead on a living person and have the same effect.

Also because save-or-die effects are stupid.

Rather than positive energy binding the body together it could be a lack of negative energy (or death energy). When the person dies the death energy flourishes and dark spells are able to take advantage.

That means you simply need to chop one finger off to see the bone.

Having a good explanation adds verisimilitude.

I like this. Only when the dead body is dead long enough, can it become target of necromancy spells.

Thank you, anon.

I enjoy the fact that we have to just pull something out of our asses rather than the actual game designers coming up with something.
>>

Yes and it's still the case for something like Rifts and the branch off beyond the supernatural for the mid to high level stuff, a good portion of which you can start with.
>>
>>52271776
>should pumping a bit more power to overcome this resistance be enough?
yes, it's called the finger of death spell
>>
Bones aren't dead while they're inside people, idiot. What do you think bone marrow is? Or how about bone cells?

Another fairly common concept is that a person's skin (or tissue, or aura) poses a near-impermeable barrier to most types of magic. Otherwise even the shittiest novice spellcasters could just kill more or less everything just by telekinetically reaching into their victim's body and giving their heart or brain a gentle squeeze.
>>
>>52271776
Because it kills them, then you're animating a skeleton in a dead person.
>>

Living is, in fact, NOT qualitatively different from being dead. Skeletons are animated by bound souls. If the soul was bound to the skeleton at birth, and is covered up in meat, then we call that a "human being." If the soul was bound to the skeleton after the death of that meat, then we call that a "travesty and an abomination against God." This is because wizards are bitchy hypocrites.
