They mixed three similar-looking candies that taste different and do not work well together. So someone would take a hand full of candy expecting one kind of candy, perhaps just the chocolate of m&ms, and then receive an unpleasant surprise when they take a bite.

Even if you take a handfull of candy, you're not going to put them all in your mouth at once, right? You eat them one at a time.
>>
>>52271210
Not if you're American
>>
>>52271210
The (only) correct way to eat candies like those is to eat one color at a time. So you're still at risk.

Aren't they individually labelled, too?

I'm willing to accept the idea of an "androgynous" gender or an "other" category that is given the PC name of "third-gender" or "non-binary", but going past 4, let alone 25, is heading into absurdity. It's weird that I hold a lot of left-leaning opinions considering that I'm also pro-GG, though I also believe Trump is not Hitler it's too soon to invoke Godwin's Law. I blame America's false political binary of being communist hippiecucks vs MRA-Nazi neckbeards.

My comrade. I'm not even moderate left, I just want to avoid the batshit end of the horseshoe where people come from bizarro world and/or lust for bloody revolution.

Honestly though, 5 is where it's at (m/f/none/both/fluid), past that it's just pointless quantification of how male or female or other you feel, and how intensely you feel it, comparable to "demisexual" tier orientation wank, or worse (kin genders are the "sapiosexual" of the gender spectrum.)

Anyway. Filename.

Eh, from a legal and administrative standpoint I think we should just stick to M/F/other.
From a language standpoint, nothing other than he/she/they and maybe it.
From a social and medical standpoint, IMO, dysphoria has been scientifically proved to be a real thing, that causes actual psychological harm, and it's not too difficult to use "they" in a conversation or whatever so your friends' brains don't try to kill them. Kinda like accommodating your allergic guests when making dinner.
("But what if slippery slope" -- there's a reason I dismiss demigender and faegender bullshit as what it is: it's not proven and it definitely harms communication. That's where you need to draw the line.)

I'd say there's justification for at least three. While rare, intersex is a thing and I suppose 'gender fluid' could fall under that intermediate heading as well.

Why bother with subjective genders when you can have biologically objective sexes?

If we're going to get silly, let's go all the way.

Dysphoria is real, of course, just like schizophrenia. If it was an imaginary choice it would be silly, but understandable. It's a real phenomenon though, so I'm not going to cater to someone's mental illnesses.

I wish I could give a simple answer, it is all based on personal tastes and ability to put up with bad art.
What I can at least give is a summary of each "storyline", which are easily selectable with the drop down menu between the first/next/etc. buttons
>Introductions
7 pages of meta-"humour" with the first usage (and attempt to explain) the "hammer-gag", the over-used anime cliche of girls hitting perverts with hammers.
Can safely be skipped unless you want the full experience.
>The Goo
The first canon storyline, which is also skippable, the only thing that matters is that Elliot fights and defeats the eponymous Goo.
>Shade Part 1
We get introduced to Grace, this I would argue is a valid point to start, it's still early so it has all the issues that entails but it has a lot of world building and foreshadowing.
If you do wish to skip it, here is the cliff notes version: Tedd, Sarah and Elliot go to see a movie; it is obvious Sarah has a thing for Elliot; after dropping Tedd off after the movie he is met by a woman wearing only a trench-coat who says her name is Grace; after letting her in we find that Tedd's dad recognizes Grace as someone known as "Shade Tail", he however is not willing to divulge much of anything beyond the name, citing DGB (Dad's Government Buissness); the next day Tedd invites Elliot over to meet Grace and discuss what little they know, as well as Sarah who takes Grace to the mall to buy clothes; after some strips about their escapades, on their way back to Sarah's car the duo get jumped by a mugger with a knife, with Grace responding by turning into some kind of half woman, half squirrel thing and ripping the knife from the mugger's hand using some kind of psyhic power, y'know, as you do

>Q&A #1
Some quick filling in on some of how some of the magical stuff in EGS works, that changes in size normally maintain weight, and that the hammer gag can only be used humorously against perverts, and doesn't work in serious situations
>Shade Part 2
We get some backstory to Grace and her "brothers",
>Relations Part 1
Elliot invites Sarah to the martial arts dojo he goes to, however the next day seems to try to avoid her...
>April Fools Week
A week of silly 100% non-canon fun
>Relations Part 2
Elliot takes Sarah to the Anime-Style Martial Arts Dojo, run by a large black dude called Greg, a black belt in three disciplines who gained insight into accessing one's Ki after watching 168 straight hours (which is equal to one whole week) of anime after being dumped by his girlfriend.
We also meet Justin, one of the other students.
We find out why Elliot was avoiding Sarah:
Elliot was aware of Sarah's feeling for him and one of the other students is Elliot's girlfriend, Nanase (pronounced nah-nah-say if I remember correctly). Sarah learns this the worst way possible, with Nanase giving Elliot a big sloppy kiss after sparring with him. Sarah runs off and after being told how much of an idiot he is by Nanase, he runs after her, having a heart to heart chat in a nearby ice-cream parlour, turns out he had underestimated Sarah's feelings for him. Oh and Nanase then breaks up with Elliot. Guy just can't catch a break.
>Catnip
Tedd and Grace mess around with transformations and we get introduced to the TF gun. Actually surprisingly important to the plot (and TF stuff major reason to read the comic) especially near the end where we learn quite a bit about Tedd and Elliot's relationship.

Honestly, I think this is pointless. Trying to get into El Goonish Shive at this point is literally waste of time. Not because it's bad or because it aged or some other shit, but simply because there is a 15 years of content to "catch up". It's pretty much as pointless as trying to start reading at this point anything else than first 100 or so strips of OotS, because there is just too much shit to read, while not exactly in most accessable way (could work as a book or shorts, but not as a comics)

>>52279246
I'm not a native English speaker either, so go figure. But it's still painful to read, mostly due to lack of proper formatting, not grammar itself.
I mean use fucking capital letters and punctuation. It's a slog of a text to read, so kinda-sorta helps to read it effortlessly, instead of trying to figure out if it's missing punctuation or intentional lack of it.

Isn't Gandalf a Maiar, creature from before the 1st age of Middle Earth though?
Pretty much anything from that era has more in common with a character from Exalted rather than D&D.

I mean we are talking about an era where Sauron was just a lackey to the Big Bad, where Dragons got invented and were the size of Mountains, and were killed with magical crystal powered air-ships and Elves were manly bastards and Eagles are a proud intelligent warrior race.
Where Balrogs marched out in armies and illumination was provided by either a pair of trees, or a pair of gigantic braziers.

Note: I said "Braziers" NOT "Brassieres" THEY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS.
I've made that mistake before.

I dispute that math and/or reading of the text, which omits a crucial comma present in all translations that use the phrasing (and the semantics of translations that use a different phrasing). It reads "... sevenfold, as the light of seven days." That's a clarification, not an additional multiplicative factor.

You see, I would put genderfluid under both/androgynous, even though technically genderfluid is sometimes explicitly one or the other. but I guess I could yield to 5 in this case. I would also put none under non-binary, since I think that there could be cases where people lack a mental gender or have a mental gender that is anomalous. Anomalies aren't worth convoluting communication and social norms, but they can be recognized as not a part of the usual 2 genders.

More specifically, less tolerant the treatment of trans-* with transition, surgery, and hormones, rather than anti-psychotics and CBT, as is the norm with other body dysmorphias. (And as it has been treated successfully in the past, when not piggy-backing on the more legitimate gay and lesbian rights movement to assume an untouchable listen-and-believe status.)
Which is to say nothing of not tolerating trans individuals. They deserve respect and proper medical treatment. Which is the point. To allow and encourage transition is as medically unethical and irresponsible as unnecessarily amputating the leg of someone suffering from limb dysmorphia.

After all, you want to make sure everyone on the internet thinks you're a winner because no one you know in real life would ever tell you that. But fear not! The length and intensity of my reply indicates that you've gotten under my skin, meaning you really did win, didn't you? After all, having emotions on the internet is a sure sign that someone has lost an argument. You know this, and so you've taken great pains to never display even a trace hint of emotion, here or in real life. (As a free hint, look into this and how it interacts with aforementioned depression). Displaying feelings is weak, feminine, and a telling trait of shit-eating liberal whiners. The fact that I've gone to such lengths to respond to you means you've won the emotional cold war. Except that this is a copy-paste I wrote up ages ago to deal with assholes such as yourself. So this requires as much involvement as your typical smug-anime-girl post. All I have to do is set up the opening of this rant to match your specific half-baked comment and fire away. I won't pretend to know more than I do, it's definitely a complicated issue. I'm all for letting people do what they want so long as it doesn't hurt others. The line between personality and psychosis is pretty goddamned thin, in my mind. I think it's up to the person in question to decide whether they want to indulge or eradicate those sorts of tendencies.

Never claimed they were, but ascribing a word, in this case gender, which is defined as, quite literally, biological sex, as if it's a social construct is asinine, idiotic, and farcical. Gender roles, are, in fact, what is the social construct not the word gender.

Sex referes to biology. Gender refers to a type of identity, gender roles are the expectations of that identity within society.

There are some people who will try to muddy the connotations and attempt to say sex = gender, but it's more useful to define them as I did above.
>>
>>
>>52282264
That's true 23 X, 23 Y, or 23 X, 23 X, or 23 X, 23 X, 23 Y, or and this is, I think the last one 23 X, 23 Y, 23 Y. ANYONE WHO HAS TAKEN BASIC BIOLOGY KNOWS THIS ABOUT OUR SPECIES.

Those are Transsexuals, not Transgender, you cannot really change a gender, it's really one of three things Male, Female, and Other, oh wait just two things Male and Female, Other is there just to be polite, see those two really cover everything. There's a reason gender was interchangeable with sex as a word for literally all of human history until, well, the last thirty years or so, when people started confusing sexual orientation with gender and raping the word.

You have no idea what you're talking about, huh? Nobody's confusing orientation with gender. The reason sex and gender "were interchangeable" (not true by the way) is because, like homosexuality, it was considered socially unacceptable, and so it wasn't discussed.

There are many historical accounts of people identifying in a way distinct from their biological sex are numerous. A big robust one you can check out is the Hijra of southern Asian countries like India and Pakistan.

This is a Japanese monster story. They don't have "can be saved" rules with their monsters. You can, at best, trick it into hurting someone else, but it'll still come back around and kill you for tricking it.

They're encaustic or inlaid tiles. Popular in the middle ages and the Victorian gothic revival, the advantage is that the pattern isn't just a surface glaze so they're much more wear resistant, and they have a pleasing matt finish. They're also something like an order of magnitude more expensive than ordinary tiles.
>>
>>52286701
They are more expensive, because they are so fucking inefficient to make. And the original ones were made because the people making them didn't have the chemical know-how to make the glazed surface - similar shit to Milano pseudo-porcelain from the 16th century

>>
>>52287059

No shit they're inefficient compared to modern glazed or printed tiles, that's not the point. The pattern on encaustic tiles is at least 3mm deep, they'll take much more of a beating and things like chips and scratches won't show up or compromise the tile. That's why the Victorians used them primarily in entrance halls or public buildings. A pattern that's just applied to the surface won't last five minutes in high-traffic areas, the inlaid tile gives you the patterns of a glazed tile with the durability of a full-body tile. Saying a glazed tile is better than an encaustic one is like saying laminate flooring is better than engineered wood.

My language doesn't have that distinction. Sex = intercourse and gender = what you describe as sex. Does this mean my culture is exempt from seeing gender as an identity and see it as a biological term? This is why semantics suck. Gender pertains to the difference between the sexes. Depending of context this could be biological or social. He or she or it are merely descriptors that allow us to speak about a specific someone in a quick and easy way, without having to repeat or know ones name or descibe them every time. Like a nickname, you don't choose it yourself. It doesn't matter what you are most comfortable with. If you look male, you'll be considered male. If you look female you will be considered female all for the sake of communication. Any cultural stigmas associated with both have no bearing on the flow of information. She walks and he walks are the same act, possibly by the same person as described by two different people. Neither is inherently wrong, but they walk is, because you aren't a group of people which would be confusing to the recipient. So are zie, fae, vis and all those words. They add more stigma to the information further muddling the message.
>>
>>52287479
Very much worth it. Sizable chunk of reviewers who panned it originally returned to it by late 00s and generally made much more favourable re-evaluations.

Besides, if you are sitting on /tg/, you are going to enjoy this movie regardless of anything else, since you are going to watch it under the "right" angle to fully get its whole potential.
>>
>>52287466
You seem to forgot a very important element:
Price-to-value ratio.
It's MUCH cheaper to literally replace glazed tiles - or just put stone tiles in the first place - than even try to use this shit. Who cares if it's going to last for decades, if for the same time you could replace the floor 10 times AND STILL PAY LESS
>>
>>52288536
You including the man-hours for replacing it 10 times in your calculations, champ?
>>
>>52288609
Yeah, I did. I've spend my entire college placing tiles and mosaics. Even nowdays I take contracts for mosaics from time to time when it's not some shit that is going to eat more than a week of my spare time.
And still encaustic tiles are just too expensive to bother. Want cheap floor? Other types of tiles. Want resilient floor? Place fucking stone.
Encastics are pretty much "I'm rich and I don't give a fuck" material.
>>
>>52288536

>implying price is the only consideration in design

Why do people buy an Eames chair for three grand when one from IKEA will do? You assume that the only way to measure value is in straightforward utility. Value can be measured in the higher rent or sale price you might get for a property, the increased footfall attracted by decent architecture and interior design, or even the delight that someone gets as a result of having nice tiles in their home rather than shitty ones.

Anyway, like >>52288609 says, the labour costs are a pretty hefty slice of the pie. Once you factor them in you might pay £50 per square metre for a cheap glazed, or £120 for a pretty decent encaustic. Over a building's lifespan the encaustic probably will work out cheaper.
>>
>>52288740

Speaking as a designer, these things are best considered in whole-building costs. Really high-end finishes look fucking expensive compared to the alternatives, but overall the impact isn't necessarily that large. We did a project once with rooms divided by custom-made exotic timber joinery rather than walls, a designer kitchen, the widest Dinesen oak flooring, ultra high-end home entertainment kit, the works really. Came out at about £4500 per square metre. Had they ditched the hi-fi and overpriced kitchen it probably would have been closer to £3000. We probably could have done an ok fit-out of that space for £2000, or bargain basement for £1500. Overall, using high-end materials might up your cost by 20%, but it's more like 90% of what you actually see in a building.

>Why do people buy an Eames chair for three grand when one from IKEA will do
Mostly to show they can afford it. But then again, people also buy from IKEA to show they can afford it.
The proper comparison should be - why people buy branded shit rather than utility shit.

And yes, when you are making a motherfucking FLOOR, the only thing that matters after certain size is the price and durability, both tied together. Encastics lose in that equation pretty bad.
When you have a choice to make a floor for 10 bucks per meter and replace it after 10 years, 120 bucks per meter and replace it never OR 80 bucks per meter AND replace it after 50 years, it's not much of a "choice", really.
