Having long ago found technology and computer insufficient for storage and processing of mass amounts of data. The Progenitor Human breeded the Common Goldfish into the prefect Data storage unit.

Then one day they discovered a massive black needle had been driven through the center of Mars, making it look like an olive on a toothpick. Theres no information of how or when the needle appeared, and any attempt to land on the planet leads to catastrophic electronic disturbances, ensuring any trip to Mars is a one way one without any chance of contacting the outside.

At some point near the end of humanities life, all pigeons were replaced by self replicating robots that look exactly like pigeons. The reasons for this are lost to the ages, and no one knows what the robot pigeons do, just that they have spread to every colonized world and space station in the galaxy.
