Alright, ya'll, Renegade Freeguild dude here >>52216341

Just wondering about thoughts in regards to the Maulerfiend+Juggernaut monstrosity I was thinking of making. I've actually seen some people doing conversion work on the Maulerfiend and at least the Ectoplasma Head is perfectly scaled to fit onto a Juggernaut. From there, the center of the chaos star on the Juggernaut's shoulder looks like a perfect spot for a weapon mount. And the lasher tendrils make an A+ tail. I see a fuckton of potential, and was just wondering what the thread and any particularly inventive kitbashers thought of the idea.

>>
>>52226439
Yeah that's fair enough. Picking up an army with a battletome gives a much "safer" feeling that picking one without. I'd say wait, there's been rumours of shadow/horror aelves and it's a safe bet that Freeguild will be updated at some point.

That said, Death is more than playable (linking >>52226483 since this answers him too). Soulblight have Bloodknights which are great elite cavalry, probably some of the best in the game. The Vampire Lord is a great buffing hero, or a beatstick if you put him on a Dragon. They also have a better ogre-equivalent than Flesh-Eaters. A battletome for these guys would be great but other factions need it more.

Real men play mounted Elf lists.

Seriously. Between the Glade Riders, Wild Riders, Sisters of the Thorn, Warhawk Riders, Glade Lord on Great Stag/Eagle and the Sisters of Twilight, you have a shit ton of options for making a mounted Wood Elf army.

Doomfire Warlocks, my boi. Speaking of, jesus some of the DE units are just bonkers weird. They've got a lot of interesting gimmicks. Like the Sisters of Slaughter. Add two to their saves in combat, and if you get a 6+ on the save -- which would be a 4+ because of the bonus -- you roll another die. On a 4+, mortal wound at the enemy.

Question in regards to rerolls. That only happens once, or? Like if something lets you reroll 1's because of a shield and you reroll another 1, do you get to reroll again or just have to take the 1?
>>

they only happen once, and you cannot reroll a reroll, of any type

>>52227041
Doomfire Warlocks are also one of the few wizard units in the game, and I think only one of two (correct me if wrong) whose magic becomes stronger the larger the unit is. A full squad pumps out 6 mortal wounds and needs a 4 to cast. Pretty neat, if expensive.

I could see them potentially allying themselves to a particular WAAGH! or atleast tagging along for the purpose of eradicating a particular settlement. Allthough I think a much more suitable scenario would be if the beastmen follow the WAAGH! at a distant to pick off the human survivors from the greenskin devastation of the area. To me beastmen have always been more of opportunistic scavengers than anything else. Sure they ambush the odd patrol and merchant caravan but I don't really see them attacking something outright when they can wait untill it has been severely weakened.
>>
>>52228136
I'd like something bigger/better than Grave Guard, but smaller than Morghasts. Basically big skellies, the Death take on Stormcasts and Blood Warriors.

Fluff them as having been created from a combination of corpses. The agility of aelves, the tenacy of duardin, the strength of ogres, the fury of orruks, the cunning of grots, the versatility of humans, etc. Different sects have more of different races so players can get "their dudes". MC sect has more human, but the close combat one has more orruk (for example).
>>
>>52228136
Wheel skeletons and skeleton towers and literally any dark souls enemy could work
>>
>>52228376

Thanks. I picture them myself as a technological advancement from the common zombie and skeleton warrior. Something much more robust and sturdy with the drill of an automated machine. Having some kind of chariot/magical machine that increases their potential through connecting them directly to a necromancer's mind would be neat aswell. Such a contraption would make them work like the extension of a single mind instead of just following its general orders.

I'd just love to see some Chaos Warriors sworn to a single deity. I feel like it was a huge missed opportunity for GW to not release something akin to my pic but with an armour shaped to make the wearer resemble a Tzaangors and other mutated things. Wouldn't it be awesome to have Chaos Warriors with scale mail shaped like the feathers of an exotic bird? Instead we got the Kairic Acolytes who imo just looks bad and are only saved by the fact that you can make some decent slaaneshi marauders out of them with a headswap.
Hopefully we'll get to see some fine slaaneshi warriors in the next Chaos release. If so, how would you like them to be?

As a non-player of AoS I don't see the resemblence between Tzaangors and Warriors of Tzeentch. The former are reasonably unarmoured beastmen while the latter are heavily plate armoured humans wholly dedicated to their divine patron.
>>
>>52230984
They're supposed to largely be secret cultists who can blend into crowds of regular people.
>>
>>52231047
Its equivalents really. Like, if you were to run just arcanites and tzeentch daemons and you wanted melee units to hit the enemy, Tzaangors are your go to.
>>

>>
>>52231114
He used to be a character in Warhammer Fantasy, the Curseling.

They were twins, merged.

The mutant one controlled the big one, Master-Blaster style.

New fluff is that the big one used to be a sorceror that got corrupted with a sentient tumour that whspered secrets to the big one. Now it's a generic hero unit.

Indeed which the Kairic Acolytes doesn't look anything at all like.

>Buffest fucker in the neighborhood.
>Tall like a belgian dinka.
>Bird fetischist.
Yeah that sure spells incognito mode.

A box like the Empire's Flagellants with additional cultist apperal, such as hooded robes and shit would've been the bees knees. Secret cultist look the best if they just come across as larping normies.
>>
>>52231173
They use change magic to become buff.
>>
>>52231114
It's a great model allright. Looks just like the way I want my mutated warriors/chosen. Cronenberg up that shit!
>>
>>52231233
Would've been better if they used something else to gain some advantage in battle, to further differentiate between the Chaos gods. Leave being buff to Khorne and Slaanesh.
>>
>>52231173

One of Tzeentch's many schemes was to normalize bird fetishism so that his cultists could better blend in. Nobody's going to suspect that the totally normal and not weird neighborhood bird fetishist is going to turn out to be a weirdo Tzeentchian cultist, right? Because bird fetishism is normal and Chaos is weird and stuff. Everyone knows that!

Just as planned...

What is ur-gold and why do Fyreslayers obsess over it? All this fluff about their battles is

it's literally worse than Space Wolves
>>
>>52231416
Was some of his former plans to normalise bodybuilding and eugenics aswell? If so then my hats off to the big bird in the sky.
>>
>>52231420
Ur-gold is shards of their god that they use to create runes to hammer into their flesh to empower themselves.
>>
>>52231420

Ur-gold is gold that's yours and not theirs.

>>52231431

As for the eugenics, I can't say. I mean he is big on mutation. Bodybuilding? Well, I suppose Tzeentch got bored of the many millennia in which his subjects have been known as lanky bookish-types and decided to change his cult precepts to also require mandatory lifting. I mean, the God of Change needs a change too, now and then.
>>
>>52231470
Yeah it's not unreasonable that Tzeentch has some pretty hench cultists, but I don't think anyone imagined that was the norm. I'd personally preferred a squad of bookish aspiring wizards.
>>

Aspiring Wizards is more of a support unit than something you make the meat of your cults. They can do well up in the leadership, but you need a lot of muscle for your cults since, even though they do have a good deal of magic, they don't have as much as your proper sorcerers so they need some supplementing.

Then there's Khorne who supplements his basic muscle with advanced muscle, and Slaanesh and Nurgle who take either muscle or nerds as support and leadership, depending on merit.

Would have been much nicer if they went with the ragged masses for a theme. The cults of Tzeentch could easily disguise themselves as political gatherings for the downtrodden and poor. The lower classes would flock to Tzeentch as they see the diety as a patron who will lead them into a societal revolution where they will finally bring the rich and the nobles to justice. And as we all know from history revolutions are a great time for change as revolutionaries and counter-revolutionaries fight for control of the state which inevitable leads to scheming, splits and infighting within the myriad of factions that are born and created as a response to the political climate. Politics being a major part of Tzeentch I feel that it has been woefully underrepresented in the actual game.

Speaking of Chaos while I was at work, was wondering if I could get some thoughts on the fluff of MUH DUDES from >>52216341 from people that are more familiar with the Mortal Realms setting. These guy's used to just be a Border Principality that was controlled by fairly heretical students from Nuln's College of Engineering who sought more freedom to innovate in forbidden areas of their craft, ie daemon engines.

Mostly just wondering what to do about their faith. Chaos Undivided or give them a patron god likely either masquerading or hidden behind the facade of their artificial machine-deity.
>>

Rules question. The Big Orc Black Boss describes him as such:

"Some Black Orc Big Bosses are armed with
a Deff Choppa and a Tusker Shield, while
others wield a pair of Deff Choppas. Some
Black Orc Big Bosses instead enter battle
with a single Slaughter-choppa."

Are the statlines for a pair of Deff Choppas and a Deff Choppa with shield the same? Shouldn't they lose an attack? Do they essentially lose an attack by missing out on the Chop, Chop, Chop rule, or not?
>>
>>52235290
6 attacks for Deff Choppa, no extra attack on 6s with the shield.
>>
>>52235329
Ah okay. So you don't lose an attack persay, you just lose the chance of extra attacks.

In that case, what's the better way to equip one. I received a free second Megaboss and want to convert him.
>>
>>52235158
The klaw is the best option for a boss. As for the rest of the squad it depends on how large you want each unit to be. Units of 5 want dual choppas, and 10 or more want gore-hackas.
>>
>>52235359
Damn. Then I'll have to just buy 10 brutes!

Would it be unwieldy to field the dual choppas I have together, or should I separate them always?

I'm sorry if I seem annoying--I've never actually played AOS, just lurked for several years after having been big into 40k in high school.
>>
>>52235369
It's wouldn't be unwieldy, but you typically won't get everyone in range to attack in combat. Gore-hackas have a longer reach so it makes them more effective in larger numbers. Also one of the main reasons to run larger units is to have a good target for the warchanters buff. Until you get him it might just be better to run separate squads.
>>
>>52235343

Okay so I'd say use him as a bodyguard for the other boss/other heroes, since he gets the to hit bonus, plus he's tough and the shield gives him a bonus to saves in close combat.

So you'd want a deff choppa and shield for that.

A relatively unused chunk of the VampCunts turned into an army, and with a pretty amusing lack of model diversity. Horror/Flayer pack, the only Ghoul King is the one on the TG/ZD kit, and then vanilla Ghouls. Oh, and the Vharg.
>Daemons of Tzeentch

>Bonesplitterz
True, but then we also got those hideous Ironjawz at the same time.
>Beastclaw Raiders
Genuinely well-handled.

I think the dude's mostly talking about shit like vanilla Dwarves, State Troops, things like that. I mean, looking at what has happened with the Dwarves, it seems pretty clear that GeeDubs is trying to push dwarf players into picking up one of the two new lines of dwarf miniatures rather than just using the miniatures they've been using for decades. After Flaming Naked Gingers on Dinosaurs and Cogfop Balloonists, getting some generic and classic fantasy dwarves seems a little unlikely.

I don't think anyone would disagree that GeeDubs is going to try to push players to buy new shit, and the easiest way to do that is to "update" the aesthetic of various factions. Which means that a lot of the older lines that don't really match the same style as Bloodbound, Ironjawz, Slyvaneth, and End Times Undead will naturally be pushed to the edges. Supported? Sure, with legacy battlescrolls. But eventually replaced with stuff more fitting with the general look of the game.

Just my $.02, and I'm the Renegade Freeguild fag.

Reread the list of old factions, realise that there is a trend, and expect this trend to continue. It's what I did, and lo and behold, I'm right, while the shitter who's coming up with shit in his own head is wrong! Fancy that!

>>52236647
Well, I disagree with the part about the older stuff not fitting with the setting - for example, I would bet my bottom dollar that Eshin will get an update somewhere way, way down the line (probably as an adversary faction for the elves of Ulgu) simply because they're ratman ninjas, which is something over-the-top enough that it can fit. They did get a new model with Silver Tower, after all.

And I do agree that GW is going to push players to get new stuff, but I'm holding out hope that that means they'll try some new sculpts and faction expansions rather than exclusively making new factions out of whole cloth. I mean, they can only do that so long before they start running out of even derivative ideas.

Some older stuff does, some older stuff doesn't. I didn't state in mine that all factions that previously existed would be faded about, in fact I pointed pretty fairly towards the contrary. The stuff that can be made to fit likely will, but even then it will likely find its aesthetic changed so much as to be mostly unrecognizable.

FEC are a great example. FEC are technically following in the footsteps of the Vampire Counts, but they take loose inspiration in some regards, closer inspiration in others, and completely reinvent other parts. Dwarves got turned into the Fyreslayers and the Overlords, and I can almost guarantee that no Dispossessed update will ever be coming down the pipe. Freeguild will likely get turned into something -- generic dudes that fight against strange monsters and horrors with training and teamwork is pretty great -- but I can guarantee you they won't look like the decades old Holy Roman Empire expies that their current line is.

But just like none of the dwarf players I know want to play Fyreslayers or Overlords, I doubt many Empire players are going to want to play the Cometcrash Legions, armies of humans clad in armor festooned with as many comets as a Hurricanum's wheels, fighting almost exclusively with comet maces, with comet helms and comet shields or the Gryphon Lord's Aerie which are gryphons, demigryphs, gryphounds, and weregryphs. And it's a lurking doom that a good number of the old armies likely face since GeeDubs seems far more interested in completely reinventing races rather than simply updating models for the lines that already have both an established line and an older aesthetic.

This is the stuff that saves things like Oggors who, aside from the name-change, have fared pretty well in AoS. They had an established line but the update they got early in 8th gave them the giant monsters that fit nicely into the new visual look of the game. And Eshin who did have some older models but no real established line.

Don't worry, I'm not projecting. I already love it.
>>
>>52236781
Well technically Orks and nids still can getbsome good updates, unlike current dorfs, humans and elves
>>
>>52236759
>Rats, or aelves?
Both, actually. Mistweaver Saih and Tenebrael Shard for shadow-aelves, Deathrunner for Eshin.

>>52236829
I reckon the Freeguild HRE-expy aesthetic can fit with the rest of AoS - it's overwrought and elaborate, much like the new stuff, just in a different way. I reckon it works. Just update the sculpts for the old Freeguild stuff and that's done.

And yeah, no Dispossessed update anytime soon, but I say that's because they got an update in WHFB 8th ed. They're already pretty new, so why redo them again?
>>
>>52236993
>Mistweaver Saih and Tenebrael Shard for shadow-aelves,
And they both looks nore like Eldar, so I pretty aelves release will looks like wraithbone armor instesd of IoB aelves for example
>>
>>52237027
I disagree. I've seen photos of Tenebrael Shards and Witch Elves next to each other with a unified colour scheme, and they fit together well, even taking into account the fact of the 8th-ed Dark Elves update.
>>
>>52236829
It's simple. New shit with new artwork won't get changed.

So shit like wanderers will get an update
>>
>>52237046
>Tenebrael Shards and Witch Elves
Yeah because they al half-naked, but ST guy have simmilar to DarkEldar pants, weapon and stuff on his back
>>
>>52237116
Girl. The Mistweaver is female.

And I don't think she fits the Dark Eldar aesthetic - she isn't wearing nearly enough leather. Her mask has the look, though, and I can't remember how her staff looks.
>>
>>52237115
>new artwork
What do you mean by "new artwork"?
Also, about "muh 8th edition updates" the last 8th edition (except ET) models update was 3 years ago.
>>
>>52237129
>Girl. The Mistweaver is female
Really? Because hands says it's male.
But nevermind, it's still mostly farseer kimono with DE reaver's helm.
>>
>>52230624
They are a very good idea given terrible models. Who greenlit them? It's rare that GW designs miss the mark by so much.

DARK ELVES WHEN?

I have no idea if those have already been posted, but they are godly.

I mean, I reserve the right to not like the rules, but all the work on the graphic of the battletome is awesome for a fanmade one.

Her torso says "female".

Try the 360-degree images when you go on the webstore, they can show you some important details that you may have missed.
>>
>>52237389

Of all the things you can be upset about in 40k among quintillions of Imperial citizens you are upset one blank happens to be of a dark complexion?
>>
>>52237389
They are just some Salamanders working undercover
>>
>>52237401
It's not upset, but it's a little on the nose?

Why not black, female, in a wheelchair, and a famous warlord?
>>
>>52237429

What does having a female blank born to a sub equator group of people have to do with any of those things?
>>
>>52237438
It has everything to do with baiting you.
>>
Question guys.

I have old Warhammer models with square bases, do I real need to replace the old bases with round ones to play AoS?
>>
>>52237398
>that you may have missed.
Such as?I sow barely showed boobs, but thought it's just fluttering clothes of kimono
>>
Do you guys think they will ever release bretonnians?
>>
>>52237498
No but you probably will eventually
>>
>>52237498
Could have just googled that.
Yes, square bases are fine. Round bases are commonly preferred, but nobody will raise a stink about old models being on square bases.
Some anon here even has stormcast on square bases.
>>
>>52237530
You will get bretonian themed free people
>>
>>52237530
They are called Flesh-Eater Court
>>
>>52237389
I dunno they have that tina turner mad max beyond thunderdrome or conan vibe. Black women usually look much more convincing as female warriors and amazons than whites.
>>
>>52237498
Nope, distance counting from models weapon.
So what's your top modellines who will TombKinged in future. Here is my:
1) Empire (except Hurricanum and probably demigryph)
2) Dwarves
3) Elves
4) Probably some old greenskins infantry (goblins, boys)
5) IMO. most of VC infantry and cavalry
6) Seraphons (I think it will happen with new edition of their battletome)
>>
>>52237378
I wonder how well they'd work for SCE. They lack any high-tech gubbins and the swords come with the same lightning bolt design the sigmarite weapons often have.
Heads don't work, though.
>>
>>52237564
>lots of gibberish
You are either baiting, deluded or fairly dumb. Nobody gave a rat's ass about tomb kings, but everything you listed bar maybe standard Orcs are popular armies.
>>
>>52236725
>What are Dryads? What are Treemen?
Just two boxes.
>Because daemon models TOTALLY haven't been cross-system compatible for literally their entire fucking existence, amirite lads?
Okay, I was wrong about Chaos armies. But WoC and Beastmen most likely will be replaced by Gods-armies.
>I'm right,
Nope you are wrong for most of old armies and current trend showing it.

>>
>>52237608
Comperatively popular, then.
Also, in AoS at least Seraphon are one of the most popular armies and people still collect Dispossesed, Freeguild and all manner of aelves regularly. Not to mention VC stuff being just generic Death stuff and thus required.
>>
>>52237647
>Comperatively popular
Not popular enough by GW standarts, so such argument is invalid.
>Also, in AoS at least Seraphon are one of the most popular armies and people still collect Dispossesed, Freeguild and all manner of aelves regularly.
Proofs?
Also, rule-wise they are all not great so they will never recieved popularity of new armies among the newcomers.

So it's the models, not the rules, that make an army popular then, right? Well then there's one easy way to make older armies popular...
>>

Excellent. What saddens me is that there's so much fan enthusiasm for the TK, and GW still won't update them in any way.

If they weren't cut, you wouldn't see any of this enthusiasm. This is purely a case of people wanting something because it was taken away.

Not because it was taken away, but because it's never come back, pretty sure a lot of people wanted TK update after Cruddace killed army

Yeah, with the 'ead git on a Thunderwolf.

I'm testing a few colours but right now I've decided that I'm going with based Duncan's Thunderwolf tutorial and get some Dryad Bark as the basecoat.

Still need to figure out how I'll model the Shaman.

>>
>>52231892
But that is, if only briefly mentioned, part of their fluff. They find a lot of their followers in the lower classes of Sigmar's new cities.
>>
>>52240090
Wouldn't that just mean that my suggested version of Tzeentch followers is extra suitable instead of what we actually got?
>>
>>52235418
There are reasons for doing multiple things with ironjawz as this anon is pointing out. Bigger squads means more models are affected by buffs such as warchanter or weirdnob. However, larger brute squads means less squads which lowers your chance for megaboss's command ability going off. It also lowers the number of boss klaws/bashas in your army since when the megaboss's ability does go off, you gain +2 attacks (1 for each weapon).

The ten men squads of brutes are less affected by Bravery (since you get +1 for having 10 guys, I think that benefit stays for the first battleshock?) and when you do get the occasional guy to book it, you aren't that devastated as if a guy from the 5 man squad runs.
