First for the First
>>
Second for the Second. Victims of the Rangda, gone and forgotten.
>>
A question. For a Knight, would it be better to retain melee D or go full Crusader and rely on Stomp instead?
>>
>>52204952
Stomp only does something against marines if you roll a 6 on the stomp table. Otherwise it's just some Str 6 ap 4 hits which marines don't care that much about.
>>
>>52200068
>>52200094
>>52203414
Sad part is that if you look at some of the images in Inferno, FW just slapped MkVII SW arms onto some of the models, regardless of the armour they had.
>>
How are Sister of Silence models in ass department?

37KB, 340x336px
>>52205025
they don't have a lot of ways to represent space wolf armouries producing artificer armour.
>>
>>52205122
no ass unfortunately, and it's behind a cape. Not much scope for modelling either since the rear is encased by plates of armour.
>>
>>52205165
How do they represent AA for other legions? SW got the same torsos and pads everyone else gets. They just don't have heads available to them. And how do MkVII arms on a MkII make it AA? Or a MkVII torso and arms on a MkIII make it AA?

Anyone with any skill should be able to just put MkVII hands onto the arms of other marks.
>>
>>52205204
Damn, than i should wait for plastic aspect warriors.
>>
I know it isn't directly comparable since Assassins are 40k only for now, but rulewise, Culexus and Sisters, which one is better anti-Psyker choice?
>>
>>52205222
well the 40k grey hunter armour is explicitly made on fenris, it has gold trim and wolf emblems on it. Other legions either fit perfectly with the marks of armour like death guard and mark III or can use the head crests to look graeco-roman like ultras or they get full conversion kits like thousand sons.
>>
>>52205322
probably the Culexus, since it it has permanent Invisibility.
>>
>RATINGS FOR CUSTODES WITH LEGIONES ASTARTES RULES
Because why the fuck not.

>DA
F. No benefit from swords (nobody takes them on custodes) and small numbers + giving away VPs if outnumbered is awful.

>EC
C. Better sweeping is handy, but custodes already have higher initiative than most stuff they fight.

>IW
B. The enemy has to kill every model to stop the custodes getting into combat, which is useful.

>WS
C. Partial rerolls to wound when you charge is handy I guess.

>SW
B. Makes your dudes run faster.

>IF
D. Does make the bolters on the spears better, but who gives a shit about those?

>NL
D. Custodes are unlikely to outnumber the enemy, even being bulky.

>BA
A. Wounding on a 2+ rather than a 3+ is the shit.

>IH
S. S10 pieplates (vindicators, medusas) no longer instant death custodes. And the sweeping thing is less of a disadvantage given custodes' leadership.

>WE
B. Would be higher if they could get rage easier. Rerolls on the charge still good though.

>UM
C. Interlocking tactics is a nice bonus, but custodes probably won't have enough units on the field to really get the most out of it.

>DG
A. Phosphex becoming 50% less effective is great, especially on high T models.

>TS
A. Raptora custodes have a 4++ on their basic dudes. Nuff said.

>SOH
A. Unlike NL, they need to outnumber at the end of the combat to get the bonus, i.e. after you've whittled the enemy down with your non-unwieldy AP2 weapons.

>WB
E. Don't give them anything especially.

>Sal
E. Flamers aren't a huge problem for custodes, and the sweeping thing is awful for a melee army.

>RG
B. Infiltrate and fleet are pretty great for an army that wants to be in combat.

>AL
B. There's a lot of good options there, made better with some of the toys custodes get.
>>
>>52205448
>(nobody takes swords on custodes)

huh? sentinel guard are one of their best units.
>>
>>52205448
SoH: What non-unwieldy AP2 weapon are you talking about? IIRC their Legion special weapon was shitty wannabe-Rending bullet.
>>
>>52205492
>>52205448
Nevermind. I read it wrong. I need to go to bed I guess.
>>
>>52205463

I mean, in the end, the whole thing is about whether or not you pay your chainaxes if you modeled them right?

Unless you play against a WAACfag, why would you not give them chainaxes on their models? It looks great! Sure you have to buy them, but there's plenty of 3rd parties that makes them. I'm thinking about getting the Anvil Industries ones for my Charcharodons for example.
>>
>>52206021
I play WE and pay for chainaxes on tacs as free S6 is still amazing for 2ppm

Now I understand why the paintings guides don't show how to paint eyes lenses normally, with a white dot and all.
>>
>>52206436
Isn't the "white dot" the reflection of light? If so, keep in mind the direction if the light source when painting. Right now you have it coming from both left and right.

>>52206471
I don't think so, I mean, pretty much every tutorial about eyes lenses makes you out a dot in each corner of the eye.

Very quick photo cropped photo of another marine I painted. In this one it looks much better imo. The eye lense has an actual corner.

I'm trying to get the pitch black Charcharodons eyes, so I just put some Nuln oil Gloss and a white dot. Pondering wether or not to put some grey highlights, I'll have to try on a test model.

>>
>>52206436
well you've got to work up to the colour, and most transparent materials don't produce a perfectly white reflection either. A long lens tends to reflect a horizontal line in the top and corner of the lens.
>>
>>52206587
To be fair that is Lorgar who is kind of iffy. I wouldn't be surprised if Magnus viewed Lorgar as the most stupid of his brothers, only surpassed by Angron.

all the primarchs were, startign with the Emperor himself. He also had enough ability to back it up, and realised that if he openly displayed his doubts (which he had from his pact onwards where he lost an eye) his vision of free psykers and a psychic imperium would be over as his opponents would jump on his insecurity.

>sell your legions souls to Tzeentch
I'd say the Emperor did that, Magnus lost his eye to spare them from bearing the cost of their brief time free of the flesh change. Also we don't know what the escape from Prospero cost him.

>fugg up the golden throne
the Emperor didn't trust him, when trusting Magnus was one of the most sane things he could've done and he would've have had to do so when Magnus took up control of the GT.

>instead of surrendering to Russ
wasn't ever an option and Magnus was smart enough to know it. He also knew it'd be unjust to wipe out the wolves (which is why wrath of magnus is a comic book villain shitfest).

>reeeeee into the warp
Magnus did face justice and knows he is still neccessary to the Emperor's plans and also for screwing over Tzeentch.

>Join Chaos
again, knew that the emp winning was a shitty time for all so backed Horus.
>>
>>52206693
The only thing Magnus did wrong was using the opportunity to forewarn the Emperor of Horus' betrayal to promote the use of sorcery. Which was understandable, but still a bad decision. If you know about a huge plot that will wipe north america off the face of the earth, you're not going to warn the goverment using tin cans and a piece of string to prove that the mobile network is overrated.
>>
>>52206603
Logar should have snuffed Erebus at birth then no one would have 'done wrong' but all this blind Logar/Magnus did not wrong is just......
Heresy
>>
>>52206693
Magnus, pls go
>>
>>52206739
I think it's more of the fact he'd taken on the aspect of a Daemon Prince that confirmed how naughty Magnus had been, that and destroying the Emperor's shit that fucked him off!
>>
>>52206779
Primarchs virtually are daemon princes, and it was only his astral projection fuelled by souls, just the same as the astronomican. You can call these things fancy names doesn't change the fact that it's just emperor sanctioned chaos.
>>
>>52205463

>Rending is better than +1S AP2

???
>>
>>52206938
+1 Str AP 2 is only on the charge. Rending is forever, which makes it better against things with a 2+ save.
>>
>>52206983

Yeah, so if you get charged by terminators it's better and every other time you want the guardian spear.
>>
>>52207001
BS2 overwatch will be good in a lot of stiuations and the shield makes sentinel guard much more survivable for basically no penalty.
>>
>>52207001
Even if you charge, you gotta wipe out the opposing terminators in a single turn or you will be hitting the remaining terminators with a wet noodle for the coming millenia.
>>
I just put together my Leviathan, what a beast!
Got my 'proper' Guilliman and trying to work out whether to fully build him or leave power fist arm, backpack cloak, and leave head off so I can paint it right?

Also any thoughts on here about the Mastodon? Worth getting? How do you get to use it with a Primarch?

Cheers
>>
>>52206515
Thin your paints =]. That way you can get a fine point and not a big dot. But it's meant to represent a reflection, which means you do need to do the reverse highlighting thing (gray to white along the bottom-inside corner). The white dot can be left out if you put gloss coat on the lens.
>>
>>52207170
>mastodon

>>
>>52207206
>gloss coat

Different anon, but I just had a thought. Would blood for the blood God work for red lenses?
>>
>>52207720
been discussed before, it doesn't really dry on right. Tamiya clear is the better product in any case and works well for lenses, or the gw gemstone paint.
>>
>>52207457
Same as you can't put tea in a chocolate teapot! So you can put 40 in a Mastodon, does this make it a worthwhile exercise or a Spartan better as it means you still get to use a Primarch?
>>
>>52207206

I much prefer a good gloss coat on things like lenses and gems to trying to paint reflections on. It's more realistic, makes the colours richer, and it's just easier.

I suppose you can think of it as being a bit like using metallic paints versus trying to paint NMM. The NMM is difficult to achieve and impressive, but to be honest it looks better in photographs than it does in real life, and the same principles applied to true metallic painting produce a better overall effect.

Got an answer, yet an unsatisfying one. I specifically asked for the Contemptor-Achillus Dreadnought and said that the Duncan one is too bright for my taste, here is the reply:
Thanks for contacting us. While we don't have the precise details for how our studio painter did theirs we can provide you with the colour scheme that the Warhammer World studio have used for the models on their displays which we hope can be of use to you.

Gold:

Retributor Armour, gold spray
Reikland Fleshshade Gloss, wash
Pick out some of the eagle details with Liberator Gold
Re-apply the wash where needed
Edge/line highlight with Stormhost Silver

Red:

Base coat of Khorne Red followed by adding Wazdakka red and then Fire Dragon Bright, followed by several thin washes of Carroburg crimson.

Silver:

Base coat of Leadbelcher
Followed by Iron Breaker
Thinned down Nuln Oil wash
Highlight with Runefang steel

Sigh. But we greatly appreciate your effort.

I think you'll have to look up non-GW golds online. There are plenty of reviews and minis to look at, and only a couple of brands that are especially known for their metallics (I might be getting these all wrong, but Secret Weapon and something 75 come to mind).

Shade with nunl oil and not a fleshshade, as someone said earlier. For highlight, Liberator Gold could actually work well - it's quite desaturated.

If it's clearly a Terra army (dead BA, WS, Custodian Guard on the bigger bases, stuff like that) and you have only a few veteran units in Mark 7, since there wasn't much of it, then sure. If you've clearly just taken 40k Marine kits and painted them yellow for the entire army, probably not, because that looks lazy when you even get better value out of BaC/BoP and can use those in 40k too.
>>
>>52209485
Only if you glue them lying down on Iron Warrior bases and paint bits red.

So ... Since Magnus already turned into a daemon primarch after the teleportation to the planet of sorcerers right after the battle of Prospero ... Would people complain if I use the 40k Magnus model rather than the 30k Magnus ? Because buying a primarch model and only being able to use it in games based on the battle of prospero seems like a waste of money.

(1) Legion Champion Consul - 85 points
- Master Crafted Chainaxe

(15) Legion Tactical Squad - 175 points
- Bolt Pistols and Chainaxes

(10) Legion Tactical Squad - 125 points
- Bolt Pistols and Chainaxes

One thing, are you planning to promote your champion to a praetor one day (i.e. use the same model)? If so, might be worth giving him something like a power sword that can easily become a paragon blade later.
>>
>>52210813
That makes me angry.
>>
>>52210972

For five points more than the H.Support squad you could get a bare bones Sicaran and then have better AA on a more mobile platform.
Then if you gave those five marines standard Melta guns, a rhino with a MM, you could have a suicide squad for armor.

(1) Legion Champion Consul - 85 points
- Master Crafted Chainaxe

(15) Legion Tactical Squad - 175 points
- Bolt Pistols and Chainaxes

(10) Legion Tactical Squad - 125 points
- Bolt Pistols and Chainaxes

(1) Contemptor Dreadnought Talon- 190
- Twin-linked volkite culverin

(5) Legion Support Squad - 225
- Meltaguns, Rhino+MM

(1) Legion Sicaran Battle Tank - 165

TOTAL 965/1000

Now you can spruce up the Sicaran, or play a little (drop the Rhino and reduce the first tactical squad) to add Apothecaries.

What weapons and equipment do you put on your main HQ? Archmagos, Praetor, Force Commander, Lord Marshal, Shield-Captain, Knight-Centura, all those (I think that's all of them).

>The backpacks look retarded

I used CSM backpack with vents from the MkIII backpack. Make it closer tot he old style. Big problem with the FW design is that it rides way too high. In art the top of the pack barely clears the top of the Marine's head, but on the model it's almost fully above the head.

>interesting to know more about the design motivations

White Dwarf 129 and Warhammer 40,000: Compilation contains original fluff of the various marks which is pretty much what it is today. Basically they needed a suit for fighting in closed spaces and environments with little to no cover, so they took the MkII and modified it heavily with extra plates (and reduced rear armour to compensate). It was never intended to replace anything and no legion/chapter has all their dudes in it. It's just an option for situations where you need that extra protection. It's noted for being heavy and cumbersome, even uncomfortable, but it's the price you pay for the best protection.

Well, the local EC player loves himself some Outflanking Spartans with Termies inside (Somehow) and that was my counter I improvised. Now I have Droplites on the way, they'll do the job more reliably.

Mine are floating squid-things like Tyranid Mucolids, but with some metal tentacles in the bundle and implanted voxes. Base is 32mm, which boosts the radius a little bit, but they're easy to see and pop with a spare Krak missile or something, so it evens out.

Yes, the Legiones Astartes Age of Darkness Army List (red book).

Legiones Astartes Age of Darkness Legions (also a red book) contains legion-specific stuff for the legions covered by FW's black books 1-5 (i.e. all but DA, WS, SW, BA, or TS).

"Age of Darkness" means it's the current book. The previous ones had the word "Crusade" in them.

>>
>>52213429
IF they were, and thats a big if, its quite possible that perhaps one or both may have allied with Xenos betraying the Great Crusade and maybe even splitting the legions like a mini-Heresy where only two legions break off and fight against the rest or maybe it was just one legion that broke off and the other died during the inter-legion war/rest of the Rangdan xenocide.

Who knows what happened but simply failing isnt enough to warrant a total purge.

ANGRON, Daemon King of Khorne

Flying Monstrous Creature (Character)

1 (Unique)

Wargear:
Gorefather Exalted: S+1 AP1 Melee Armourbane, Fleshbane, Instant Death

Special Rules:
Daemon of Khorne
Deepstrike
Folly of the XIIth: All Models with the Legiones Asartes (World Eaters) gain the Fear and Stubborn special rules and must take the blood madness option, in addition all missed attacks made by models must be allocated to friendly units in that combat (attacks may never by assigned by the model to itself)

Land's Graviton Raider, 480 points.

AV14/14/14, 4HP, BS5
Gravitic Flare Shield
Grav-backwash (only a-1 to hit this time, too heavy and big, but only works stationary)
Explorator Adaptation
Reinforced Structure (6++)
IWND (4+) (Land is doing combat repair, but he's a tad occupied driving, so not the full 3+ Battlesmith)
Primogenitor Supernum
Master Explorator Array

Quad-volkite turret with thermo-targeters (S6 AP4 Deflagrate Heavy 8, twin-linked)
Some secondary weapon that I haven't decided on yet.

Thermo-targeters:
A very helpful device for Archaotech scouting, it also finds an excellent use in battle. If a unit has taken wounds from Volkite or Phosphex weapons, including as a result of the Crawling Fire or Deflagrate special rules, the quad-volkite gains AP3 against that unit for the duration of the game.

Primogenitor Supernum:
First and greatest of the Raiders, this vehicle is immune to the Melta and Lance special rules, and reduces the extra D6 granted by Armourbane to a D3.

Gravitic Flare Shield:
Normal Flare, but instead of a-2 to Blasts it can be extended to the side armour if the vehicle is stationary (Inc. pivoting).
Transport cap 10, treats Very Bulky as Bulky.

Master Explorator Array:
Reroll on Reserves, all scoring units now contest or control objectives within 5" instead of 3, and all vehicles gain IWND, like an Archimandrite.
Can select D3 units within 12" after deployment to gain either Twin-linked, Monster Hunter/Tank Hunter or Enhanced Targeting while Land is alive, all must have the same rule.

Taghmata or Reductor LoW.
Counts as an Archmagos, and is automatically Warlord, Primarch style, but has no Warlord Trait as it's included in the package anyway.

What do you think? Big unkillable brick with buffs, but he has to be still to survive best, and doesn't have much firepower on it's own. Doesn't make allies much tougher, either. Probably terribly OP.

I've had a bunch of unpainted/a few unassembled WEs made up of a mix of mk IV, mk III and the FW Berzerker conversion kit that I was gonna use as Siege of Terra WEs. I was originally going to paint them red and white, but a couple of friends have been pestering me to play 40k again so I was thinking of painting them full on red and gold. I get really triggered when I see "30k" armies that are literally just regular plastic tac marines but would this be any better?
>>

I'll know.
>>
>>52214724
It definitely would be fine. Considering the Horus Heresy predates 40k and the traitors Legions have components that have existed since that time period, it would be perfectly acceptable.
>>
>>52214360
Some fans have a pet theory that the Emperor planned it (loosely) as a way to cull the Astartes. He did it to the Thunder Warriors, but the Astartes were too many in number and too organized for the Custodes to repeat the job. So they had to fight each other. It's not officially supported at this time... the main reasoning behind it is, "Surely he's smart enough to have seen it coming?"

I could see the Emperor keeping some of them around afterward, like the UM as administrators, AL running intelligence networks, SW for handling rebellions, etc., but what's he going to do with World Eaters once there isn't much fighting left to do?

In Master of Mankind He implies that conquering the galaxy could be done or re-done at any time. Just raise new legions, I guess. The webway project though, that has to be done just right.

I assumed the war in the webway would be an efficient means of reducing marine numbers. Once you kill enough Dark Eldar the gate Khaine is bound to open and flood the place with daemons.

Plus the WE problem can be solved once angron is killed by the nails and it becomes harder for them to recruit in greater numbers.
>>
>>52214762
That's stupid. Literally first HH novel says it.

>‘There are so many worlds still to be brought to compliance,’
Loken agreed. ‘One day, we will rest at last.’
‘No,’ Sigismund replied bluntly. ‘The crusade will never end.
Don’t you know that?’
Loken shook his head, ‘I wouldn’t—’
‘Not ever,’ said Sigismund emphatically. ‘The more we spread,
the more we find. World after world. New worlds to conquer.
Space is limitless, and so is our appetite to master it.’
‘I disagree,’ Loken said. ‘War will end, one day. A rule of peace
will be established. That is the very purpose of our efforts.’
Sigismund grinned. ‘Is it? Perhaps. I believe that we have set
Horus Rising
112
ourselves an unending task. The nature of mankind makes it so.
There will always be another goal, another prospect.’
‘Surely, brother, you can conceive of a time when all worlds
have been brought into one unity of Imperial rule. Isn’t that the
dream we strive to realise?’
Sigismund stared into Loken’s face. ‘Brother Loken, I have
heard much about you, all of it good. I had not imagined I would
discover such naivety in you. We will spend our lives fighting to
secure this Imperium, and then I fear we will spend the rest of
our days fighting to keep it intact. There is such involving darkness
amongst the stars. Even when the Imperium is complete,
there will be no peace. We will be obliged to fight on to preserve
what we have fought to establish. Peace is a vain wish. Our crusade
may one day adopt another name, but it will never truly
end. In the far future, there will be only war.’

It could be something as simple as him freezing up. It's the edge of the coin compared to the two sides of fight and flight, and doesn't get as much press as they do.

But yeah, it was monstrously stupid. And if nothing else he deserves what he got just for fucking over the people of Prospero.

>>
One of the consistent problems with BLshit is the grim dark part keeps getting played up but ends up becoming grimderp instead. Even though we adhere to Forgeworld being the one and true source of everything HH, what they can write about is still constrained by the shit thats already written in BL.
>>
>>52215726
Generally this is true. But FW often uses the excuse of "imperial bias" to flat out ignore BL.

It works for me.
>>
>>52215719
>He wanted to die and have all his works cast down. He just told the fleet to fuck off as they'd be more than a speedbump for the Censure Host. Easier to get them to leave.

That didn't require the complete extermination of Tizca's human population. He could have very well just used the fleet to evacuate the populace. The only reason why Space Wolves faced as much resistance as they did was because the population was basically forced to react suddenly to a doomsday scenario. If the Space Wolves walked through empty streets up to the big pyramid, Magnus' intended result would have been all the same.
>>
>>52215745

>But FW often uses the excuse of "imperial bias" to flat out ignore BL.

At the same time, they can't retcon events completely. Prospero was meant to be a tragic and massive loss of life, but the constraints were such that the entire thing only came off as ridiculously retarded for both sides.
>>
>>52215719
Then I guess his army is the half that is red and brass, who gives a shit?
>>
>>52215786
I enjoyed Inferno's telling of it. It was tragic enough.
>>
>>52215805

I enjoyed it too. FW made the best out of a grimderp situation and the TS Astartes were all the more sympathetic for it.
>>
>>52215772
No, but he was in a complete state of disarray. The most prideful and self-confident of the primarchs realises not only did he fuck everything up, fucked everything up because some other guy played him into it. He doesn't think clearly and just wants to take his punishment and see his works broken. At that time. Logic didn't apply, clearly. Magnus was broken, and then got broken even more.
>>52215787
It's called conversation.
>>
>>52215726
And BL has its hands tied by old fluff, and is weaving through the best it can.

Or sometimes not that old. One BL author tried writing a Grey Knights novel about the whole Draigo vs. Mortarion thing because he thought it'd be a challenge to write about something so preposterous.
