Porphyra is the result of millenia of magical experimentation to make just such a thing possible. By starting with a mere mortal who desired the things greedy mortals often do such as supernatural beauty, immortality, wealth, and power and imbusing her with the essences of ancient dragons and other magical creatures, Poprphyra was created. An entrancingly beautiful being who lays eggs from which dragons hatch. But this is not her most important feature. Pophyra can produce dragon hatchlings on her own, but by carefully choosing mates with desirable traits, dragons with customized powers and attributes can be created. Things such as aptitude for certain schools of magic, greater intelligence, or physical traits for specialized dragons. But the dragons are born with the weakness of never being completely weaned off their mother's milk. This is a method to control the dragons and to make the owners of such dragons beholden to Teiatat.

If by my posts I've hinted at the idea that I want to go full /d/, then my apologies, I don't. I do want people to be able to do it on principle though, so I'll give you that much.

I'm pretty much for normal D&D, gurps, pathfinder or whatever and people to be able to get into those groups.

As for when, you need to create the opportunity first before making the big jump, make a more welcoming environment, etc. What I'm saying is that if it doesn't feel adequate now, you should be able to think of intermediate steps that get you closer to your original intent until it's something inside the realm of probability.

(if your goal was my goal) I would start by trying something that can mass a small but dedicated number of people, like a cyoa so good that it evolves into a general, or a good quest in our sister board. This way you can invade /soc/ in full force, -while respecting the rules- and you could make the next meetup making clear that you intend to keep it open for more people to pitch in.

That's just me anyway, and I'm sure that there are better ways to do it, but you get the idea.

Hey /cyoag/! I'm currently making a CYOA about a trippy neon world with a dangerous wilderness and a consuming darkness that you will have to stop.

Basically, I'm having trouble coming up with exciting ideas for each category. For now I've pretty much made a weapon for each end of their respective spectrums, but I feel that some are too bland and don't have any additional perks over the rest, other that what the user prefers. I've practically hit a wall, and rather than doing research about tropes that regular people enjoy, I thought you would be the perfect people to consult.

I have 3 variations of the basic Melee weapon. A regular sized blade, two Shortswords that are dual wielded, and a two-handed Greatsword (which I feel is a bit bland). I mean, it could receive more power for less speed and wieldability, but that doesn't really separate itself much.

Another is Ranged weapons. For now I am sticking to a Revolver and a Crossbow, but adding a regular Bow would feel too close to the bow. I know that the Revolver offers more combat utility, while the Crossbow offers more usage outside of battle, but if the Bow were added, it would just be a weapon in between the two.

Lastly, the magics offered are a choice between Alteration, Alchemy, and Illusion. Alchemy is obviously transformation magic to various non-living things, Alteration is like Alchemy that you use on yourself (making your fist out of metal, healing wounds faster) and Illusion is regular sneak thief invisibility and messing with perception.

I'm not asking for you to write me a whole bunch of ideas, just tell me what you think is boring and what I could do to possibly fix these problems.

I've resigned to the fact that it probably won't be very popular. The way I'm building it, no matter how hard I try, it just doesn't seem like it will appeal to the "core audience" here. I'm continuing with it cause I really like it and the themes and I'm sure some people would appreciate it, but I think it's a little too different from other CYOAs.

I guess the best way to describe it is that its concepts aren't very easily tangible. A lot of it is putting yourself in the role of an auditor and pitting yourself against various departments, but the system I've had in place is constantly changing.

The appeal is supposed to be a sense of accomplishment and superiority, but I'm finding it really hard to capture.

Trapped Chests force the already wary adventurers to be even more cautious, and having Skeletons means that the corpses that will end up strewn about can act as a trap, and make whoever ventures within even more jumpy.
Golem Defenders provide the dungeon with a few real hard hitters that will be tough to take down, and the longer a fight with one of them drags on, the worse everything gets for the adventurers.
If the adventurers manage to make it past all the dangers of the rest of the dungeon to where I am, Fear Aura will cause the weaker willed ones, already weathered down from the trials of the dungeon, to simply cower.

First, humans shouldn't be common. If anything, you should be the only one left at all. It would make it a bit more special. I am the proud Wargame Mini.
I am one of the strongest toys in existance. At my size, I am able to lift an entire boot, and hurl it with enough force to smash any bug, or even small rodent. I am also tasked witho perating transports of all kinds.
My comerades are Bishop Diagonus, and Madoka Titus. The good bishop is a stallwart ally who pairs nicely with the naive greenhorn at my side.

In truth, I wished to be a defender, but my talents were better suited as a scout. I have signed up for every task before me. +11 requisition points.

I have claimed the air duct as my base. Where a lesser toy would falter at the danger, I stand prepared to face down all manner of vermin.

My Quests as a Scout
The Dread Cat of Khorne: The taint of chaos knows no limit to its reach. Even here, this vile creature terrorizes all. In truth, I believe the Cat of Khorne to be a collaboration between Khorne and Nurgle, as the beast is also absolutely disgusting; it soiled itself in one of our great battles, and emits a vile mist on any surface it can locate.
In out bast battles, we have traded licks. My bolter was destroyed by its fang, but I have severed one of its claws and shredded an ear with my holy blade. I know in my heart the day of our ultimate showdown draws ever closer.

There are also tales of deeper, darker infestations on this world. A foul place of darkness is said to exist, full of vermin that appear only in the most ancient, heretical accounts of chaos. The world itself is as much my foe as they are. Allegedly, a blade is held there, but I am unconcerned. My X-Acto is a gift from the Emperor. Perhaps Madoka could use the spoils?

Finally, there are rumors of a foul infestation of xenos here, on giant holy terra. I shall cleanse the planet of their presence, they shall not find my X-Acto blade wanting. I fear I may have to crush these foul beings before I reach the fortress of vermin. I can only hope that the blueskins, the daemon, and the vermin swarm to not consort.

I'm some form of awesome fighting robot/mech. I have a sweet anime, though I don't actually know what the fuck is going on in it. Apparantly, a huge part of the show was the intergangability of the mech, so I'm fully loaded. I have advanced apposible joints, a full arsenal of weapon and armor attachments, re-usable decals, a missile launcher, and an awesome punch lever! My sweet style and power has made me a natural leader of the rest of the toys. Hannah and Angela aren't actually very rich, but between the two of them, more toys have been marked as special. I'm on good terms with a lot of 'em.
My first bro is Zyglak. We don't know what he was before, but now we stage battles for the rest of the toys. We get along great, and I even let him use my attachments; a lot of them actually fit his joints.
Next up is the Dinobot. He's had some rough times lately. He's going through a life crisis because he thinks he's just weird trash. I mean, he totally is, but he's a good guy.
Spike's Okay. He's an old timer, and I think he's a bit jealous of how complicated toys have gotten since his day. He tells cool stories though.
Last up, Burno. Burno works with me and Zyglak as our props guy. He's a bit of a drama queen, and I think he's got the 'tism, but he's alright. He really likes my show, and I think he's a bit of a fanboy.

One thing that sucks, a few months ago, Angela figured out that my rocket punch has a secondary use. Now I smell kinda funny, but it still feels great to take the teddy bear's place as the toy that gets slept with, and it's a bit of a power-trip to reduce something ten times my size to an exhausted heap every few nights, so it isn't all bad.
I thing Hannah might have figured it out recently though. She's been eyeing me funny. I hope she takes it out on Angela and not on me.
