c.M31 THE HORUS HERESY

>After the Warmaster Horus’ treachery is revealed, an early incarnation of the Officio Assassinorum sends four operatives, one from each of the major temples, to hunt down and destroy the traitor Primarch. All four are found wanting, for Horus is powerful beyond the reach of mortal men, and his destiny lies elsewhere.

>999.M41 THE FOE UNTOUCHABLE

>Within the Eye of Terror, a Black Crusade of unprecedented size musters to break open the Cadian Gate. Rumours abound that its supreme warlord is empowered by the Gods of Chaos, and that whilst he enjoys their favour, cannot be laid low by mortal weaponry. The agents of the Officio Assassinorum are dispatched en masse to slay the Warmaster Abaddon and his most favoured lieutenants before they breach realspace. One by one they reach a succession of grisly ends, and still Abaddon remains at large.

Here is the related text. Assassins suck.

They cannot disguise as psykers or races that can detect things. There is zero recent fluff about them disguising as craftworld Eldar successfully.

>Culexus is really good at shutting down non psykers!

Their animus device amplifies their soulless aura to the point that it causes mental trauma to non-psykers and their negative warp blasts destroy souls of their targets regardless what they are. Also their touch steals the souls and the life force of their victims. One touch and you are dead.

Even the one example of a callidius assassin disguising as a craftworld eldar (Meh'lindi in Ian Watson's Inquisition Wars series), she was found out like ten minutes in.

The eldar language is super complicated and contextual and if you haven't actually been to the craftworld you're infiltrating, you'll miss out on the lingo and sound like a wetback speaking spanglish in the middle of like, 1800's upper class england.

The Imperium never discovered what causes the Tau to be hyper devoted to the Ethereals. The pheromones thing is just a theory among many that were never confirmed even when the Imperials did experiments on captured Ethereals.

So you are a moron for continuously bringing it up.
>>
>>52181463
It really depends how long they've been in combat for, if that guardsman has been in combat more than 12 hours he's going to get some rest in no matter what.

And yes, men in big battles did indeed take sleeps during the fighting, the human body is incapable of the kind of energy expenditure involved in fighting for indefinite periods of time.

Depends on the regiment and the commander. I could see an Elysian or a particularly nice Cadian commander rotating out forces for rest, but no way is some slave driver wannabe Chenkov gonna let his men do anything but die on the blades of some termagants.
>>
>>52181134
Unless I'm mistaken, the Beast was turning Ullanor/Armageddon into an 'Ork Attack Planet', but was interrupted by Vulkan and company before they could finish. Might have something to do with that.

Or more likely its because Orks regard Armageddon as a place they can always go to find a good fight (it's worth noting that the rest of the Imperial worlds in the Armageddon System are either Ork controlled or dealing with a massive Ork problem right now). I blame Yarrick for this.
>>
Oh, also, for whoever asked - The new Gathering Storm book seems to confirm that the Sisters of Silence remained part of the Adeptus Astra Telepathica after the Horus Heresy, but lost a lot of their authority after the Inquisition came around (since they now handle the Black Ships and Witch Hunting)

Don't lie to me, anon.

Pheromones. Pheromones. Pheromones. Acting as if it's a confirmed knowledge that's widespread in Imperial command is what's stupid. The Imperium have many theories about the Ethereals one of them is that they think they are psykers.
>>
>>52181649
>I can't see any Cadian commander not doing it, it's a terrible military policy not to rotate troops.
Not all Cadian commanders are Creed. There are a few examples here or there of them being just as prone to NO REST FIX BAYONETS AND CHARGE THOSE ORKS bouts of glory-hounding as other regiments.

Orks Tournament - 1250pts.jpg
465KB, 1800x1493px
Posted this a couple of threads ago.

Got a tournament coming up intended for newbies (of which I am one), with more experienced players allowed (which does scare me to be completely honest) at 1250 points. This will be the first tournament I've gone to and was wondering how this list looked. Ya, I know I'm using nobz, but they come in the start collecting box and I'm not at the point where I own more models than I can fit in an army so I might as well use what I got.
Since this is a relatively low point bracket would it be worth it to instead use the deff dread I have or nah?

So far people have told me it looks pretty good but I wanted to get some more thoughts on it.

You don't rest this close to /Tyranids/ though, you don't rest unless there's 10 miles of plasteel and concrete between you and even then you rest with one eye open. There's Hive tyrants in the background and the bug he's sitting on is one, the rippers among the swarm would be wise to get that biomass back pronto.
It's bad art in the same way that bl books with bugs are usually bad, the artist doesn't understand nids.

This, Callidus are supposed to be hyper-advanced super-elite infiltrators and routinely have to deal with races that have senses beyond the Human spectrum, the fact that the Callidus didn't smell like an Ethereal is a serious oversight, as are plenty of things in that book.

How do you know it's the smell? Like I said we have no confirmation about the pheromones existing. The guys in the Imperium have less knowledge than that. You don't know what Shadowsun found off in the "ethereal".

Anyways, in the Oldcron codex, IIRC, the Deceiver recognised that the person in front of him was an assassin despite the Callidus disguising herself "perfectly". So their disguises are not 100% detection proof.

How to fix Khorne Berzerkers:

>2 Attacks base
>Feel No Pain
>Berserk!: units with the Berserk! USR that are locked in combat always make their attacks regardless of casualties inflicted by models with a higher initiative or during overwatch. Any casualties are still removed at the end of the Fight Sub-Phase. Casualties caused by Instand Death are not affected by this rule.

>Same cost for everything
>>
>>52181841
>How do you know it's the smell?

Pheromones or not, it literally says that she figured something was wrong because the Ethereal didn't smell like an Ethereal.

>Anyways, in the Oldcron codex, IIRC, the Deceiver recognised that the person in front of him was an assassin despite the Callidus disguising herself "perfectly".

C'tan are metaphysical demigods that routinely fuck with space, time, matter and all others kinds of physics in ways that even the Necrons can't figure out with pure hyper-advanced machinery, even in their split state. They can basically do whatever the writers want them to do because they don't have conventional quantifiable capabilities.

The Changeling is different because it's both a named character and basically the best individual at disguising itself in the entire setting, bar none, by leagues, it's not really comparable. Stealth vs. detection is an opposed effort, the better you are at the former the harder it is for the latter to spot you, and the Changeling BTFO's everyone and everything at disguise.

>The only prophecies that fail are the Eldar ones because they intentionally ignore crucial details due to arrogance and hubris.

I agree with everything in your post except this part, prohpecies inherently may or may not come to pass due to the nature of 40k's 'fate', typically the clearer or stronger visions of the future have a high probability of happening due to the 'convergence of fate' or whatever label the writers want to put on it in the book, but time and causality itself still gets corrupted by the whims of the Warp, and prophecies that had every right to pass are still sometimes discarded, it's a little more existential than just being an idiot.

I'd say the extra attack and +1 strength on the axe would be enough to make them usable. Adding in a Wulfen style benefit to let them swing again might be overkill, unless it's heavily toned down like the EC one. It's also kinda weird to just hand out Feel No Pain to every single cult marine type.

Reaching Terra and going into throne room does not mean a win for chaos. It means major fail for Failbaddon.
Emperor will wake up and start totally new Age of Emperor with more copyrights.
Only way for chaos to not loose is to do nothing, as any action lead to it's unavoidable fail. Sure the may win for a bit, destroy universe while at it, but at the end world will be reborn in some way and chaos will be kicked back, so order can have a good fighting chance, so GW can have universe for their products.

Or for additional fuckery after he enters the throne room, fucking Sigmar with gold marines will materialize and trash chaos everchosen. So GW could merge two products in "Age of Two Emperors" and sell new line of products.

So I tried to make a small 1000 point list made from the few stuff I have painted and ready. Goal was to make something that could possibly win me some matches but be fun as well.

Dreadnought and the DC non-jumppack squad will be riding in the Stormraven, I know that's committing a lot of points in there but I don't have any drop pods or rhinos yet.

Have the Stormraven come in turn one, hover, have the Dread try and tear up any vehicles and have the DC marines try to clear up some point worthy units.

I'm pretty new still only have 6 or so matches played. Any advice? Tactics?

I don't have a problem with it, man. Impfags still walk around thinking that their faction is important just because their poster boys are the most attractive to closet shiters, but they get their shit pushed in every time. Damocles, Damnos, Fenris, Cadia.

Their super naruto ninja genja futsu shadow disguise assassin is talked up like she's hot shit but fucks up and can't even kill a wounded Tau in melee, and the fags cry foul. I love it.

People bitch about nidfags, ork fags, taufags, but impfags are easily the worst most deluded fanboys of them all. Every drop of imperial salt is fucking delicious.

1) MoN gives +1T, not FnP

>>

>Would it be worth starting with Orks now
Sure, as long as you understand the Ork mindset of "we don't care about winning or losing, we just like a good an' proppa fight".

Seriously, as an Ork player (who's still a few editions behind and hasn't played on the tabletop for several years now) it's critical that you understand that your win/lose record doesn't matter. What matters is "Are you having fun?" When I was really active, I won 35-40% of the time. Granted, half my opponents fielded the space commi-I mean Tau, so I was already at a disadvantage to begin with. 'course, it made the times I did win all the more enjoyable.

But like >>52182615 said, da boyz have been getting treated like an unlucky grot by GeeDubs lately. Hopefully we'll get a lot of buffs from 8th edition (like, I dunno, a better Initiative than 2 and giving us back the ability to actually LOOT HUMIE VEHICLES instead of this standardized 'looted wagon' nonsense?).
>>
>>52182690

>>
>>52182733
I wouldn't say higher than I2 (at least for Boyz, maybe higher for Nobz) is really necessary, but I still have no idea why all Orkz don't have 6+ Feel No Pain by default, going up to 5+ for anything bigger than your standard Nob.

As a Tau player Orks are the biggest threat to ideological threat to the Tau greater good.

Eldar and necrons can at least be reasoned with, occasionally. Nids are animals and therefore exempt. Imps defect regularly. And we don't know about chaos.

But orks regularly undermine the idea that every sentient race can find a place in the greater good.
>>
>>52182523
Keep in mind a win for Abaddon isn't necessarily a win for Chaos. There's been a couple of implications that if Abby actually won he'd drop Chaos entirely and just declare himself the new Emperor.

Cautiously optimistic since I mostly look forward to seeing what the mod support is like and how well it sells to know if/how many future factions are DLC and if they can handle balancing around 3 factions before adding more. If the game is shit but we have a bunch of factions at least the models can be ripped for TTS.

Someone please help me out here. How the fuck am I supposed to deal with a Bloodthirster, let alone any Greater Daemon as Grey Knights? Banishment can't stack, so you can only bring them down by 1 on the invuln, Psilencers are only S4, so unless you have like 3 of them pointing at one greater daemon, you probably(someone plug this into mathhammer, please) won't do them in because you have to get through rolling at least 5's to-wound and then pray that they don't make whatever insanely low invuln save they have, and then if you do, somewhere along the line they'll end up getting a FnP or re-rolled invuln. You might as well remove your models from the table if you even think about meleeing them(except LoC, you might actually force him to have to roll some saves if he's not swooping, which he is like 90% of the time). Dreadknights are "made to fight greater daemons", WS5...with 5 attacks on the charge (3 base, 1 on charge, 1 for 2 specialist weapons), and still I4. But a Bloodthirster has at least that many attacks without needing to charge and he hits at I9. You have to pray the opponent botches his rolls or you scrape by with 1 or 2 wounds left. Sure, we get force in spades, good luck getting it off when Daemons can generate almost double your warp charges with no trouble.

I hate sounding whiny, but I just don't know how to approach it anymore.
>>
>>52184453
>>52184431
at this point we're cluelessly speculating, but I think it's fair to say that if the game is heavily based on existing 40k rules and codexes a unit of tyranid warriors is pretty fucked VS most of those squads by virtue of extremely low body count, bad guns, bad saves and virtually no saving grace special rules
>>
>>52184491

Read the book and the codex, the one published by GW with rule and shit. That's the most canon one. Lexicanum seem to update some of the later released story...when they feel like to.

Or you could be a good samaritan and update the wiki yourself. Expecting lots of rollback and edit because fag hate your edit, your grammar suck, or *citation needed*
>>
>>52184774

>>
>>52184631
bump, what's your preference?
>>
>>52184818
If I want to win more, yes.
>>
>>52184632
S7 AP4 with Rending. Less shots than a psilencer. Psilencer and heavy psilencer are 6/12 shots, respectively vs 4 and 6(or Large blast) for the Psycannon and Heavy Psycannon. So you could get a wound off more often, but run the risk of having them just pass them effortlessly since there's a possibility of getting less wounds than you would with a psilencer.

>>52184644
It's not even being hard to kill, I can barely even fucking wound them. I usually can't even get force off since I have to spend my 1 psyker power per unit (2 for purifiers/Grand Master, and up to 3 for Librarian.) trying to buff them defensively(Sanctuary on the Dreadknight because he's the biggest fire magnet I've ever seen.) or trying to take out/hinder whatever else would pose a threat equal to or greater than the greater daemon, like some units setting up to capture an objective, or getting into position to score a point by killing X or doing Y. So there's always a choice I have to make and historically, going for the offensive has yielded me little success, so I try to delay me conceding with defensive tactics and hope they fudge a roll or two so I can lessen the points/kill gap before I lose.

>>52184663
The first and currently last time I used Draigo he got turned into a fucking Herald of Tzeentch the turn he arrived from deep strike (turn 2, because I can't make 3+'s on turn 1 to save my life). Bone-shard is a nice psuedo storm shield, but I try to avoid being within 12' of a greater daemon with my Librarian. My regular list doesn't use a Grand Master, but I've been considering it. I'll have to try Gatling Psilencer sometime, not having the "wounds daemons on 2+" I saw they had in 5th really fucking hurts.

>>52184744
That sounds hilarious, but if I sit in terrain as GK, I'm even more of a sitting duck. (Somehow we're supposed to be the *Teleports behind you* army.)

>>52184743

>>
>>52184905
>Warriors just seem weird to me in a squad sized game.
they're the easiest way to represent tyranids proper
genestealers were, for the longest time, assumed to be a separate species

also tyranid attack/advanced space crusade have tyranid warriors as the standard troop, so there's a bit of historical precedent
>>
>>52184905
Warriors are capable of the same independent shenanigans as genestealers, and they have guns
>>
>>52184905
A pack of warriors would hypothetically be a tactical matchup for a really well coordinated squad of scouts, they also represent Tyranid rules exceedingly well, ie:
>Synapse
>Melee or range specialization
>Sitw
>Biomorphs galore
Genestealers are good for flushing out entrenched enemies and such but that's it
Tl;dr warriors represent nids better as a unit even though genestealers are more popular

I wouldn't have near the problem I currently do if force didn't count toward the psychic power use for each unit. So, my understanding is that there is a massive disconnect between the fluff and crunch. Immense psychic might even on the most "basic"troops, oh, but you have to choose between imbuing a fraction of your power into the weapon or performing a banishing ritual you've done innumerable times before, we can't have you doing both, otherwise it's too much for you.
>>
I wish Imperial Fists had a Scout HQ and new Scout models. I love Scouts.

You have no idea the love I have for Scouts.
>>
>>52185430
Why Imperial Fists in particular? I mean it would make sense (kind of) for Crimson Fists since they're under-strength so it would make sense for them to have lots of scouts to bolster the ranks, but I never heard of IFs being big on scouts.
It would be cool to have a "10th company captain" generic HQ though.
After plastic Sisters and Orks codex update.
>>
>>52185495
Because only UM have a Scout HQ. And IF rules let me re-roll 1s with Bolt weaponry, so that means my bolter scouts and assault scouts will all benefit from it.

Besides, one of my favorite obscure chapters, the Emperor's Warbringers are Stealth Imperial Fists. Camoflage, Olive Drab, and send Scouts to, well, scout and prepare the area for the main assault while the planning comences.

I hope it's not. I prefer the original Necromunda factions, and using 40K ones seems like a cop-out.

>>52185702
A mix of a lot of things. My guess would be them not selling very well (partially from lack of support on GW's end) and tabletop games losing popularity.
>>
>>52185742
Confirmed Necromunda 2.0.
>>
>>52185751
Until an actual GW employee says, "It's Necromunda 2.0" or actual gameplay releases, I will not believe it.
>>
>>52185413
Welcome to 7ED. All the Psyker heavy armies have this issue. Do you think a Tzeentch Daemons army uses more than a fraction of their potential powers every turn?
>>
>>52185763
Same rules and everything.
>>
>>52185742
Well good thing it's Shadow War and definitely not necromunda but with models everyone already has
>>
>>52185702
then why's it coming back by that logic?
>>
>>52185863
to empty out boy and scout inventory because they dont fit with the new primeork/numarine aesthetic in age of emperor?
>>
>>52185763
They basically did in the Warhammer Community promo?
>>
>>52185811
Once again, no proof.
>>
>>52181802
Wait to much assumption..might as well be head cannon at this point.
>>
>>52185763
>Those veteran gamers out there will be keen to learn that much of the ruleset is based off of the classic Necromunda game, including some in-between game advancements and earning experience that can see your small recon-force grow to become an elite unit of honed killers.
>>
Is there a recaster that sells Necromunda stuff? It looks interesting but the ebay prices are insane.
>>
>>52184845
i tried, literally no options show up under lord of war
>>
>>52182222
>Tyranids and Orkz are top-tier

In spirit totally now they just need some rules to reflect that.
>>
>>52182208
Where is it confirmed or even said were nid meal #13?

Did the nids start bragging themselves up?
>>
>>52182298
What are these ant names? I know plenty of ork character names.
>>
>>52182443
>Also, nope it's 100% noblebright

So yes.
>>
>>52182650
He doesnt know the swarmlord was on Octarius.
>>
>>52182526
They cant get any worse and cheap boyz and deffkoptaz online wont last forever.

If you like orks and thats what you want to play it would be a good army to start with, if they get buffs in 8th theyre just going to get more expensive to build.
>>
>>52182615
>Okay, so winning isn't the most important thing in the world right? But losing EVERY game is

This is a good way to put it, the feeling when youre winning and suddenly your battlewagon full of bustas blows up starting a mob rule chan reaction that kills the unit all from one lucky melta shot on your open topped vehicle that GW saw fit to INCREASE in points cost since last codex.

We really dont have a lot to work with, except forgeworld, ork forgeworld is surprising very very good.

Your defensively so weak your at the mercy of your opponents to take you apart correctly or not, a lot of ork play depends on how your enemy picks targets.
>>
>>52187092
Youre*
>>
>>52187092
First time looking at the Ork stuff on FW, I really love the models. If only GW could get near that standard with their stuff.
>>
>>52182615
imo I'm fine with losing as long as I felt like I had a chance, tau gunlines where I just stand there taking models off the board while my berzerkers die by the unit are not fun games.
>>
>>52187150
This is how I feel playing Guard against my Ravenwing friend.

It's literally a case of "Play this VERY specific unfun formation or you lose."

I don't mind losing, but it shouldn't require me to give up on enjoying the game to have a chance.
>>
>>52187000
nice trips. yea it was on octarius but itll be a little different since terra is drawing the nids to it with the astronomicon so itll probably get hit with a massive hive fleet at the same time the orks and chaos get there
>>
>>52184722
Tau.
No, I'm not kidding.
Farsight, Fusion Blades, MC stomping, Ethereals with battlesticks, Kroot and Knarlocs, and Hazard Teams are meme as fuck.
>>
>>52183435

Wow a Tau Commander no scoped a single marine? WOWZERS! That really is more sueish than all those times marine sergeants defeated warbosses and greater daemons with combat knives. I mean, I thought chapter masters punching the greatest of all bloodthirsters to death was dumb, but the idea a commander's automated gun could kill a marine? That's just OUTLANDISH.
