Pathfinder General /pfg/

Cheating Death Edition

When was the last time you or a fellow party-member beat death at their own game, either figuratively or literally? How'd they do it?

Shouldn't Taldor Ascendant be removed from that list, since it was a falsehood?
>>
>>52176997
Well it never really came up in-game, but one of my characters (an Alchemist) figure out how to basically become a pseudo-lich. He created a permanent Magic Jar (effectively his phylactery), dumped his body in a stasis tube (permanent Elude Time, so the body can be retrieved), and created a bunch of Simulacra to become his bodies. So he's still alive, but he exists inside a magic item that's possessing clones of himself.

Quick! One of the players dropped from Dragons 2 and you need to plug that hole! Who would you pick?

Literally anyone from Dragons1.

Another male character, doesn't even fucking matter who as long as it isn't a trap. Jesus christ, choose PARTYDwarf. DHB would put a stop to this madness.

Howdy /pfg/,

I'm working on material for a bloodborne campaign. Currently doing a bestiary and ran out of creative juice at F, so I decided to drop off new material for ya'll.

New since my last update: the Tomb Prospector archetype and Feat support.

Which was that, the Henshin Hero one?

Because I recall another guy was working on one, he was asking if the (pretty cool) art he'd found fit a Dragon Prince.

I guess he got culled by Eagle's early closure of apps.
>>
>>52177175

DHB being accepted into a game is one of the Seven Seals, do you really want to bring about the end times and the Tribulation?
>>
>>52177224
Yeah, the Henshin Hero one. Dunno about the guy you're talking about.
>>
>>52177187
Damn

tfw your not so great app was the only "Dragon Prince"
>>
>>52177227
The way things have been going?
Wouldn't be so bad, really.
>>
>>52177227
DHB being published already happened. One of the two seals that mentioned him is already released, the second surely is to come soon.

The Game Starved Beast is growing ever more desperate, to the point he touches even ERP games with his tainted blight of character drowning in insecurities, self pity, bitterness, and shame. Truly a pitiable creature.
>>
>>52177260

You're willing to endure seven years of DHB and ERP?

As can be shown by what occurred during the last thread, Roryposting can get super toxic, super quickly. From what I recall, someone reposted the logs that were shared in the last thread to this one. Like, right as the first post. That wasn't me. Whoever did that, shame on you.

Folks, I want to sincerely apologize. For all the Roryposting. All of it. This got a little out of hand a lot too quickly.

I'm sorry, I hope you'll forgive me.
>>
>>52177326
DHB is the grail. It promises wishes, balanced martials, neat homebrew, an end to the madness, but it is nothing but pain and corruption!

FWIW, he's being honest. It was totally me.

I lost to the memes.
>>
>>52177319

It's nice to know I wasn't the Worst, but I definitely have a problem with character focus and personality discrimination. Part of that is My group is mostly war gamers, and only have Recently made a "No War Gaming" at the table. Kinda force more RP action, which some are better at then others.

I'm a fine role player, just bad background detailer. Was hoping to get some tips from the review anon, but then it closed early.
>>
>>52177308
Tomb Prospector or Church Hunter, depending on what you're looking for.
>>
Alright, /pfg/ do you prefer to have a persistent line of characters you develop over time and can adapt towards many settings?

Or do you prefer to create a new character for each and every campaign?
>>
>>52177383
An apology does not undo the damage. You must repent and accept your punishment.

Public execution.

>>
>>52177099
Not me. I'm actually glad I didn't get picked if it means I don't have to interact with Rory. Guy's a black hole for attention. The only way anyone gets screen time is if he's attached to them. Meanwhile, I'd actually have negative character development and regress into a blank sheet.

It's alright, senpai. Just get to work on that game of yours so I can apply to it.
>>
>>52177413
>>52177420
Yeah. I'm going to restrain the posting to pfg to just updates on Blood Mountain and mechanicals stuff, as a few anons seemed interested in that. Roryposting derailed the last thread and I don't want that happening again
>>
>>52177440

I don't do generic characters to be adapted.

I very much tailor every character to their specific scenario.

It is fortunate that I've always been accepted into every game that I've applied to.

I don't know what I'd do if I had to discard all these wonderful characters.

*quietly weeps because one game just REALLY started rolling and the GM had to pack up shop just when our characters were cool with each other*
>>
>>52177440
I keep making female support casters of various reptilian species who are all different in personality and specific species.
>>
>>52177383

>He's only upset about Roryposting when his logs got shared

Where was this attitude for the past week?
>>
>>52177464
More like recycling the same character concept for multiple games.
>>
>>52177440
I always make a new character for each and every campaign. I like trying to fit myself towards a theme, but even beyond that, I'm usually bored of a build after I've finished theorycrafting it so it doesn't even bother me if I never get to play with it. I'm back at coming up with ideas but good at crunch so having a campaign lead me helps.
>>
>>52176997
>party reaches end of dungeon full of cannibalistic cultists
>Final chamber contains several ponds of demon blood, along with an alchemist and a cult leader
>Cult leader quickly transforms into a giant manlion monster, alchemist falls back to lob bombs from a distance
>Eldritch Guardian fighter's mauler familiar goes in to attack manlion, gets KO'd on a critical AoO
>Dwarven ranger steps up to fight manlion while fighter uses a scroll to absorb the familiar into his body to stop it from bleeding out
>Alchemist throwing Tanglefoot Bombs glues PCs in place to limit mobility, manlion eventually grabs ranger with bite attack and jumps to the other side of a blood pond with her
>Monk and Sorcerer focus on taking out the manlion, fighter and NPC fighter try to deal with alchemist
>Manlion drops ranger in the middle of the blood pond to maul her while she struggles to swim
>Fighter and NPC fighter have to make reflex saves VS tanglefoot bombs, ends terribly
>Monk and Sorcerer take out manlion, corpse begins writhing before its entire circulatory system voids itself and a blood ooze attacks the party, envelops and attempts to suffocate swimming ranger
>PC fighter KO'd by bomb hits, NPC fighter can't stand close enough to administer a potion because splash damage from a bomb thrown at NPC could kill the PC first
>Shit rolls and NPC status keeps NPC from killing the alchemist in a reasonable amount of time
>Ranger busy doing nothing but trying to get out of the ooze while the monk kicks the ooze ineffectually
>PC fighter bleeding out, almost dead when NPC fighter finally kills alchemist
>blood ooze suddenly releases ranger and disappears beneath blood pond
>PC fighter gets a CLW potion literally the turn before he would have bleed out to death
>Ranger is unconscious and mentally scarred

The party didn't wait to see if the blood ooze was coming back, but little do they know it escaped through a channel and will be appearing again later in a new host body.

>only way anyone gets any screen time

>>
>>52177491

Sometimes people can fly off the handle. Geez, Roryposting is just memes dude, we're all meming all the time, and this past week has been SUPER MEME HEAVY.

Cut him some slack, and maybe we should all meme a little less.
>>
>>52177491
Pretty sure he told people to calm their tits before, but now it's overboard
>>
>>52177479
I tried to do the same thing but I had to discard so many character concepts I loved that I just stopped and started keeping long character documents I can ad-lib into any setting.
>>
>>52177440
I make some ideas that I file away until they have a fitting campaign.

Otherwise, I try to never use the same character idea twice and keep trying new builds and schticks, creating a new one for each campaign.
>>
>>52177473
Then say good things about the other characters that did get in and pick someone who would also fit well in there!
>>
>>52177498
I have never done a pure cycling. I have made similar characters, but only when I either didn't get to play the original character or didn't get to play it much.

How, apart from your character being an actual weeaboo, do you justify them having a nodachi in Avistan?

I can't think of much more of a backstory justification than "from LotLK, trained by a tian dude".
>>
>>52177643

Gambling.
>>
>>52177643
They don't care that the weapon came from Tian Xia, they care about the weapon itself. The character is a weapon fetishist who collects all beautiful blades he sees, and the nodachi happens to be his favorite.
>>
>>52177643
My app for Celestial Tournament was raised by monks in a Quain monastery.
>>
>>52177643

It's a big, single-edged infantry weapon.

If falchions get a pass, so do these.

>>52177670

This right here.
>>
>>52177643

"I looted this one from some the dead corpse of a dude with weird eyes." I like it a lot.
>>
>>52177643
"It's a good sword"
>>
>>52177643
Most of my martial characters forge their own gear.

So usually it's just they don't even know what a proper nodachi is and it'd just be something used in a similar style because they built a blade perfect for their fighting style.
>>
>>52177643

Was looking through a weird merchant's wares, and thought "That is a cool-ass sword. I'm gonna learn to use it."
>>
>>52177643
Refluff it as a bigass curved sword from another culture
>>
>>52177511
No. That's just how bad I feel it will get. Roryanon may be trying to curb the memes now, but I predict others will push it back on him, making sure nobody can escape the hell of his design. It's the other part of the reason I'm glad I didn't picked: actually getting memes would probably killed the character for me.

>>52177529
I'll be honest, the fact that only one of the picked members is from the first week of applications, i.e. the people who actually wanted in to play and not meme, doesn't give me much faith in the rest of the party or even most of the other applications.
>>

>>
>>52177643
Armies change over time, and it means that they will naturally tend to upgrade their gear if they see a better version of what they have, can copy it and make it their own.

Mechanically, a nodachi needs no new proficiency other than martial, and with magic speeding travel and exchange of ideas, it would only make sense for the nodachi to be in a process of being adopted by all armies across Golarion as the nonreach martial weapon of choice to eventually replace most others.
>>
Wait, how is The Celestial Tournament PvP and vote? What actually determines if you win?
>>
>>52177713
>>52177726
This could probably grow into some weeb tendencies, I suppose.

>>52177805
Considering I'm already thinking of going mildly chuuni with this character, that could work too.
>>
>>52177821
PvP for starters.

If the judges like what they saw, the vote for you. If not, they vote for the other guy.

In short, it's impressing the judges more then the other guy.
>>
>>52177054
God, there are more /pfg/ games than I even realized. Are all of these recruiting and/or running or are some of these dead? Does this list go all the way back to the first memegame?
>>
>>52177850
Wait, that doesn't make any fucking sense. It means the PvP doesn't matter, the judge votes decide who goes on.

What if the other guy dies? What, are they gonna res him to continue on?
>>
>>52177866
The Great Bamboozling is a joke, Taldor Ascendant is dead and needs to be removed from the list. The rest are at the very least, tentatively real.
>>
>>52177440
One should only go for the latter.
In most cases it's painfully obvious when someone's just reposting an application from elsewhere with - maybe - a sentence or maybe just 1-2 words changed to the new 'location'.
>>
>>52177866
Taldor Ascendant is kill.

The Sultana's Hot Slave Harem is either kill or too shitty to be worth the time.

Legacy of Blood and Flame looks legit but has a much lower power level, and the GM has had to close it down once already due to 2hu.

The Great Bamboozling might actually be a real game.
>>
>>52177898
>GM has had to close it down once already due to 2hu
Story?
>>
>>52177892
>>52177898
The Great Bamboozling is too silly, self-aware, and stupid to not be a real game. If it was an actual bamboozle, it wouldn't be so obvious.

But then again, making people think like me is a great double-fakeout.
>>
>>52178033
GM denies it, says it was just due to scheduling conflicts. I want to believe him.

...But that said, 2hu did ask more questions than anybody else, demand more than all the other interested players combined, and then posted a huge wall of text that ran roughshod over the GM's lore and inserted loli catgirls as a race.
>>
>>52178080
DHB asks more questions than 2hu. DHB sometimes asks 20+ questions.
>>
>>52178036
If it's real, then it's real. If it's not, nothing of value was lost.

Yes. the Gods oversee the tournament. Hence, "Celestial Tournament."
>>
>>52178103

>>52178172

>>
>>52178317
Don't worry, I caught that one. I can imagine a game with the two of them but I want to be in one to see it first hand. I'd probably apply to any game I saw both of them go in for regardless of rule set. I'm not a clever man.
>>
>>52178172
>>52178227

E. Flux gives more versatility and has solid damage booster stances. Riven hourglass has good counters and extra damage strikes. Veiled moon has ways to get touch attacks, movement and utility but lacks damage.

The better discipline depends on what else you have available. All three are as flashy as you can describe, which means for you personally none of them are flashy because you are a braindead moron who cannot look into a page on d20pfsrd.com and work out how to fluff things sweetly or how to judge mechanics.

Level 15 means there is a difference in spell levels prepared and spontaneous casters get. 15 means 6th level casters don't have 6 level spells yet. 4th level casters have their whole list though.

That point buy at that point matters way less because of the money and other bonuses you have to stats. 40pb would just be increasing it for no reason, but not really effect the game that much.

Standard WBL at that level puts a constrain on what you can buy for the more strange builds.

So I've thought it over, rolled some bones, and I am actually considering raising the starting level of Legacy of Blood and Flame to 2nd or 3rd, with appropriate WBL.

A level 1 character essentially can't be justified as anything but a fresh recruit out of training. Anyone who has spent time in the field will progress to level 2-3. It opens up a lot of character concepts.

It also makes builds more interesting, giving you more room to work with something. Many builds don't mean anything at level 1 due to the absolute minimum resources you have.
>>

>>52178787
It's not a necessity and doesn't make a big difference in the long run, I'm not sure it'd have any affect on your applicant count really, but the sooner you get out of power attack hell the better.

Level 3 makes a lot of classes smoother and opens up second level spellcasting which is nice, and it gives people a good time with character building. You can plan for your 4th level attribute bonus, you can write your multiclass into your backstory. In your case it also means that the free VMC will do something right off the bat.
>>
>>52178787
Can't apply because of schedule, but the high the starting lv the more history a player can get to the character. As >>52178827 said, it's hard to justify a "veteran soldier" at 1st lv where that is basically a "green" newbie.

The balance and stance innate to the blade is more comfortable in your hands compared to other weapons; a Nodachi is similar to a shortspear and a claymore, which makes it excellent to use in a situation where you might need to jab at the foe as well as when you have the available room to swing it around. I could see a Viking- or a Celtic-inspired character finding the nodachi to be a natural progression to their standard weaponry, with just a small refluff. Or maybe not even that; they bought it off of a merchant after they extolled its virtues, and now they use it comfortably.

Ever thought to yourself, "this is so fake, I could crush any of these people"?
That's the reason, THAT is the thing. Yes, you probably could defeat any of them in a minute or two. But that's not what people come to see. A bloodbath is cathartic but unimpressive, an "even and close match", even when it's clearly staged, is a spectacle to behold.

Yes, and so is this one. I never actually said I was under any of the boxes. These kinds of high level fighters about forcing your opponent to lose any idea of the fuck is going on.

It's about taking over the tempo of the match. Your gimmick needs to be more bullshit and all consuming than their's. I have several that I wanted to use but we're way too low level and don't have nearly enough money.

Another one requires 20 robes of useful items.

That depends on how many prep time you have. A single round before Battle start means around 4 creatures that can form a literal meatshield around you.

The "overall strongest" is Elemental Flux. At all levels it gives strong boosts to your damage, defenses and utility. It works for everyone, and at the highest levels negates immunities, which is an absolute requirement against high-CRs for anyone using elemental damage.

Veiled Moon is hampered by its heavily melee limitation and restrictions on either target types or conditional requirements on occasion. It has a lot of really nice effects, but its low level stances are quite 'meh' compared to newer disciplines, and if you're not melee it loses even more value.

Riven Hourglass loses a few manuevers if you're ranged, but offers powerful options at high levels. While it does less than most for your damage, it offers strong defensive counters and at the highest levels will grant you one of the holy grails of d20-system combat: additional actions. The "free haste" is often touted and yelled about, but everyone ends up getting some sort of haste effect by 6th-7th anyways, and will always have it on long enough to handle every combat for the day if they need it. RH just offers it cleanly without meanderings or bypasses, but it doesn't offer 'more' than anyone else can get in that fashion. Other than it, RH is pretty unimpressive until you finally get the action fuckery. Make it high enough, and it will have been all worth it.

>>
>>52178972
Actually, when you think about it, professional wrestling takes some impressive skill and training.

It's easy to just punch a guy, but what you have here is someone throwing another 10 feet down onto some very thin rubber mats (they absorb some shock but not much), or into taut steel cables with thin rubber coating (again; very painful at full force), and so on.

Not only do you have to be able to actually pick up and throw some 250lb man over the fucking ring, you BOTH also have to be able to do this in a way that neither of you turns paraplegic on the spot.

Even if these guys aren't really fighting, and the storylines are... ever so corny... it's still like an extremely dangerous ballet where the person you need to catch in her swan-dive is 250lbs and coming in knee first.

... Although they may just be wearing the same clothes.

Oh, it's absolutely a dangerous and tricky performance art, no doubt about that. But the actual concept of "John Cena could kick Dwayne Johnson's ass in a straight fight" or the reverse isn't what matters in wrestling, it's all about the PRESENTATION of a good fight. Similarly, The Celestial Tournament would probably run on the same rules; someone kicking the other guy's ass ten ways to Sunday isn't a good show, but a gish-wizard and a rapier-fighter duking it out in what looks to be an "even" fight is more likely to get both people some points from the GM, even if the wizard should clearly be the winner.
>>
>>52178972

This. Playing a "150 damage per attack" initiator or a "good luck I'm behind 40 summons" wizard is like playing John Cena being his completely-invincible blando-the-magnificent self.

You've got to SELL your fight, make it into a story. Work on your promos, add some style. Rehearse a bit if you need to, and occasionally check with your "opponent" to make sure they're doing alright and ready for the next step of the performance you're putting on together.
>>
>>52179286
Well in that case there is no reason to summon the 3 large hellhounds on top of him. Still takes 3 AoOs ;^)
>>
>>52179269
Ok, it's round 1, in the first action the guy kills his opponent.

Do you make the other guy win by default despite not having seen anything he's done because obviously the guy who shot him didn't give a good fight?
>>
>>52179334
So you're saying that before initiative started you can win if you're already surrounded him on all sides by summons?

Yes, because that's totally gonna be allowed.

We're talking once combat has fucking started, he fires at you from range, teleports with veiled moon, or one of several dozen other ways to get to you without provoking AoOs. How do you not die?
>>
>>52179348
No, as the GM I'd say "rematch, make it look fun", simple as that. What >>52179326 said basically; sell the fact that you're struggling and winning by the skin of your teeth, or that you're losing in a way that's the most humiliating way for your foe.
>>
>>52179311
Then obviously he cant full attack, given that maneuver is a move action.
>>
>>52179348
Not necessarily. But going by how I'd run things in a WWE-style game...

You make sure to set up the guy against a stronger opponent. If he keeps being a boring shit, you set him up to take a fall. Probably even just inform him that he's going to lose his next match, because the crowd has turned on him and sees him as a boring juggernaut.
>>
>>52179334
>Well in that case there is no reason to summon the 3 large hellhounds on top of him. Still takes 3 AoOs ;^)
He still teleports next to you with veiled moon, attacks you, and you die. I'm not seeing how them being on top of him makes you anything but more vulnerable.

>>52179385

>>52179799
Wow, look at this faker!
>>
>>52179762
No that's the fucking point. PvP optimization all goes towards one thing if you actually want to win.

The fucking issue is if you want "interesting fights" you need time to have characters do their set up for gimmicky shit.

But the level isn't high enough for really strange/gimmicky builds. You don't have the money or levels for it.

Basically we are asking to be gimmicky and interesting in our fights without being given the tools to do so. I was saying before you need a lot more money than current to really bring bullshit to the fight.

Something has to change, either give us the actual resources to do cool shit, or make the fights actually about the fight.
>>
>>52179247
Good luck with that, I'm a Zen Archer/Hawkguard Warder. I stopped taking AoOs back at level 3.

Gimmicks require a gentlemen's agreement between players that they will pul their punches instead on going on see who can deal the 1-shot kill faster.
>>
>>52179920
So this was from a different high level tournament game, but what would happen is this situation against said opponent:
>guy you stabbed dissolves into mud
>portable hole opens
>four dozen copies of the guy crawl out and begin running around the stage
>most of them are also made of mud
>the ones you don't kill use instant fortresses to get the shell game going
>fortressed get animated by which ever fucking one is real
>the singing begins, meaning the undead begin to raise

You're on a limited time and you gotta figure out which castle has the guy actually performing in it.

>>52180042
Or having a gimmick that isn't interrupted by the first body dying.
>>
I like how this guy is basically doing what amounts to participating in a bodybuilding tournament then showing up with the biggest dick and saying that since his dick is the biggest that means he'd inherently win the competition.
>>
>>52180057
I'm saying as is the rules of the tournament aren't conducive for what the guy seems to want, because pathfinder isn't conducive for it. He either has to change things or do something to make it so fights aren't just rocket tag. Because at this low level they're just gonna be rocket tag without anything cool and flashy.
>>
>>52180057
Its more of a guy who can summon gangs of thugs getting told off by the other bodybuilders that he cant win the competion, and proceeds to throw a bitchfit.
>>
>>52180097

You could always attack, hit... And just or do any damage?
>>
>>52178873

>>
>>52180130
So you're saying we're just gonna hit each other and say 'we're pulling punches'. What a fucking interesting fight.

It really isn't. Level 7 doesn't have the resources to have really interesting fights in pathfinder.
>>
>>52180160

Anon, that's what the DM wants and what he's encouraging by a level 7 start.

Also needing gimmick items to make yourself interesting is lame!
>>
>>52180097
Yeah but here's the thing friend, going back to the WWE analogy from further up in the thread, you do realize that part of what makes a good show is the very act of not playing rocket tag, right? Those guys aren't hitting each other with all of their might because that's not what makes a good show. Sure, it also means that it takes a bit more time for encounters to last, but part of the elimination process here, which you're not getting, is the ability to be a good sport and go along with the rules at play here.

The fact that you said "that's dumb" and immediately jumped to how big your dick is with "rocket tag" shows that you don't have the right attitude and would probably get dropped.
>>
>>52180185
>Anon, that's what the DM wants and what he's encouraging by a level 7 start.
So the GM is encouraging boring fucking fights? Well shit then I guess he's retarded.

>Also needing gimmick items to make yourself interesting is lame!
Interesting character != interesting to watch fight. Are you fucking stupid? Unless we're writing fucking internal monologues the fights aren't getting more interesting because of your back story.

>>

My issue is that half of this doesn't actually seem to be anything mechanically interesting. it's about "how can I describe my abilities in the most flashy way possible". Which really doesn't do it for me because there are no moving interesting mechanical bits. It's all just fucking smoke and mirrors to disguise boring mechanics.

Level 7 is not high enough level for actually wacky mechanical interactions.
>>
>>52180368

Dude, thanks! And you could totally play up the acrobatics.

Why just flip and spin when you could be jumping on the edge of your foe's blade? Balancing on your own sword and "hopping" with it, or maybe even... God, what would it be called? When you basically do a rolling jump back to your feet while prone?
>>
>>52180326
Why? Go first, burst down the squishy, and hey, it's a 2v1 now.
>>
>>52180439
>Why just flip and spin when you could be jumping on the edge of your foe's blade?
because that's not something acrobatics actually lets do you, at all.
>>
>>52180418

It doesn't need to be mechanically interesting. The tournament is an exercise in your ability to fluff up an action.
>>
>>52180453

You can use Acrobatics to move through a threatened square.

Roll acrobatics, you're going through their square. How? When they thrust at you, you jump on their blade and do a slick spin over them.
>>
>>52180454
With the level of quality /pfg/ writers display to me in the games I've been with them in this just sounds like a fucking shit show. There is nothing mechanically interesting going on, no actually cool gimmicks, just mediocre writers trying to outdo each other's shitty descriptions.

I guess it doesn't matter, I just won't apply because fuck that sounds awful.
>>
>>52180453
So then right before you do it, whisper the other guy and go "Hey buddy, keep your sword still so I can pull this off, then you can throw me into the stands--they'll go fucking nuts for us!"
>>
>>52180418
Yeah, except this is just the base stuff for me.
"With a dizzying burst of incredible speed, you step out of time, adjusting your position to possibly avoid an attack."
"You find strength in the solitude found in the remote corners of the universe. You can create a 20-foot aura that causes enemies within to be overcome with feelings of isolation and loss."
Though more and more it sounds like you're saying "YEAH, BUT YOU'RE JUST ROLLING DICE!"
And yeah. We are.
>>
>>52180469
And if they don't try and take the attack at you? Also sure you could describe moving through the square as such, but it wouldn't let you perch on the blade.

>>52180473
And then he stabs you in the kidney.
>>
>>52180418
Again, sounds like a personal problem. I, personally, have seen things that have had interesting mechanical results from sessions as early as level 3, you're probably just so jaded that even if I did show you what I saw you'd probably think it was BS.

>>52180452
> Burst down the squishy
Do people honestly not know what the meaning of "holding back so as to put on a good show" means? Or am I just going crazy?
>>
>>52180492
>And then he stabs you in the kidney.
Who besides Norgorber would actually find that shit an impressive or interesting display?
>>
>>52180452
Because while you're bursting the squishy the other guy has set something up to fuck your side over, or maybe, just maybe, the squishy survives your attack, and they blow YOUR head off instead, making it a 2v1 against your team.

My point is maxing init over everything else leads to boring fights where actual skill is lost to the dice.

Also >>52180486 and >>52180498 are right, the point is to put on a fucking show and be entertaining as well as actually defeat the opponent.
>>
>>52180509

Calistria would get off on it.
>>
>>52180439
Those are some good ideas. Thanks, senpai.
>>
>>52180486
What I'm saying is you're not doing anything mechanically interesting or nuanced with the fight. You're not bringing anything cool to the table with your build or how they interact with the arena/other contenders. You're literally just picking options then over describing them.

Tournaments that are supposed to be interesting are supposed to be about being actually interesting, not hiding the fact you're boring. Which is why more resources would be a fucking blessing.

I've ran high level tournaments before and brought what I thought were actually interesting builds without having to obscure boring shit with vanity description and purple prose.
>>
>>52180534
A little fluff goes a long way, senpai.
>>
>>52180534
Give us an example of a non-boring build then.
Hint: I'm just going to call it boring because that's utterly subjective.
>>
>>52180534
Yeah but here's the thing, in a tournament like this prose in and of itself is a skill that you'd need to exercise, and if that part of your brain is so weak that you NEED certain expensive items that do weird stuff for you, just to compensate for your lack of descriptive skill then like I've said, that's a personal problem.
>>
>>52180515
And I'm saying that none of the builds I've heard described so far are entertaining. It's over describing things to try and hide the fact that nothing you're doing is actually interesting.

I don't care about defeating the opponent. That's not the point here. I'm saying from looking at the few applicants so far and from what people have been talking about in the threat everything here sounds like it's mechanically a snooze fest that tries to hide it.

That's mostly an issue with lacking the kind of resources to make it interesting.

>>52180552
Yes to try and obscure the fact nothing mechanically interesting is happening.

You can write a fucking good description of two characters full attacking each other. It's still a boring fight. If descriptions are all that matter now then what's the fucking point?

Mechanically there is no meaning because we're saying fluff is what matters. Mechanical interest isn't.
>>
Redpill me on martial traditions. Should I try and take one?
>>
>>52180573
Oh my god anon! You're just rolling dice! That's all this is, it's rolling dice! Everything is mechanically identical! Everything is mechanically the same! It's just rolling dice!
>>
>>52180585
If the DM puts it on the table you should, assuming you can find one that fits. If the DM doesn't mention it just don't.
>>
>>52180557
Last high level tournament I ran had a few of the following:
>The Oid Boys
Three goblinoid comedy bards who used Urban Step and Robes of Many Things. Robes of many things makes patches that makes doors/windows, which you can stick to things, which lets you jump between them with Urban Step.
>Master of the Seeing Hand
Demagogue bard who used insight riot to get people in the stands to rush the stage for the fight while hiding among them.
>The Grey Glitter
Giant Mithral golem who used an Anti-Magic field enchanted bard as a mace. This one was interesting for the walls of stone it made to make the playing field into a maze that it could gloop through in liquid form.
>Master of Waves
Aquatic Sorcerer who used the high level bloodline power to fill the stage with water, turned into a shark, and had two shark companions to fight in the water filled stage

>>52180569
That's not the fucking point, the fucking point 99% of /pfg/ are shit writers who can't write a fighter scene I could be payed to read. I don't want to fucking read some shit /pfg/ spews because every time I read shit /pfg/ makes it's fucking garbage.
>>
>>52180623

>>
>>52180629
Another one was the shell game with the multiple simulacrum copies of himself he used to start the shell game and hide so he could get the dance of the damn ready, plus the animated castles were fun

>>52180592
There are things that are interesting for what is actually happening, not for what you're describing. Because all I can see happening is a bunch of fucks writing in purple prose to try and have 'better fluff' than their opponent.
>>
>>52180629
>The Old boys
just rolling dice and deciding where to move, how boring
>Master of the Seeing Hand
Rolling dice, rolling dice, rolling more dice, BOOOORRRING
>The Grey Glitter
Oh look, a golem with more dicerolling, YAWN
>Master of Waves

I wonder if the reason that happens is because none of the good writers get to play, since /pfg/ DM prefer memes and waifus over talent.
>>
>>52180634

>he actually read My Immortal
I'm so sorry anon, did you at least do it drunk?
>>
>>52181222
He's pretty clearly embarrassed now, or at least regrets it. At this point though I'm more curious about how the other person in the log felt and whether they were okay with the log being dropped, rather than how Rory feels.

>>52181265
Yeah, speaking as a person who actually DOES do a lot of ERP and not in /pfg/ games because fuck that memery, it seems fine. Queue me being told I must have low standards.
>>
>>52181331
If I didn't, I would've offed myself already.

>mfw I'm actually tempted to take the Additional Traits feat

Help, I don't want to bite this bullet but I will if I must.
>>
>>52181344
The other anon didn't want them posted at all.
>>
>>52181299
Eh, I imagine Rory probably had permission. Otherwise he'd probably be getting booted from the game
>>
>>52181358
God
Fucking
Damnit.

I JUST posted my thread.

Well, the trips ring true, but this doesn't stop me from feeling it anyway.

>>52181299
No, I am in fact a bystander kinda sorta acquaintance who stopped to marvel at the shitfest.
I would be pissed for all of 5 minutes if any of my spaghetti-filled shit got out, but I doubt any of mine would blow up nearly as bad.
>>
>>52181344
I had assumed the partner was the one who posted the log since Rory's player said they didn't. And at the very least, shitty memedog seems like an honest shitty memedog.
>>
>>52181375
Here's hoping...
>>
>>52181375
He did not, but a lot of apologies and the other anon being unable to hold a grudge has patched things up.
>>52181411
Shitty memedog is a liar than.
>>
>>52181375
Apparently.... No he didn't!

>>52181411
You've been deceived. Aurora's player didn't post them!
>>
>>52181358
Can't help but think this one won't last long.
>>
>>52181411
>honest
Anon, he samefagged to boost his own infamy. This isn't the kind of guy who's going to be capable of backing down
>>
>>52181430

looks entirely innocent to me
>>
>>52181424
>He did not, but a lot of apologies and the other anon being unable to hold a grudge has patched things up.

Well then he's either a huge pussy or profoundly forgiving, because that's really a huge breach of trust

On the other hand Rory will probably learn his lesson when nobody else in the group wants anything to do with him outside of session
>>
>>52181467
Yeah wow, that's a seriously shitty thing to do. What an asshole.
>>
>>52181467
Doesn't doggo have shit charisma anyway
>>
>>52181457
The last two threads were the same but they got pruned anyways.
>>
>>52181500

Well that's because they got caught in the middle of a shit storm.

We should be okay now.
>>
>>52181467
profoundly forgiving from what i've heard

Personally, I'd kick him out on his ass, but thats just me.
>>
>>52181597
Yeah, me too. How are other players supposed to trust him? How do they know he isn't sharing those logs elsewhere, or with other people?
>>
PSST.

Nobody cares. Your fake internet identity where you then pretend to be somebody else(TWO FAKE IDENTITIES IN) has lewd shit everywhere.
>>
>>52181686
>he only has two fake identities

faggot

I tried running Legacy of Fire before. The last major part of book 1 is invading a gnoll- infested town. If you run the entry to the city with any sense of realism, one slip up becomes a slaughter. Granted, my party was probably not the best example compared to the level of number crunching you get here (one guy played a cleric that refused to use spells because he openly hates the magic system, then said it was for flavor reasons).
