Derp, didn't follow the whole conversation. LN/TN for our side protagonist here.

>What sort of evil would the corpse hunters be?
In Wizardry they would be the playable Evil.

Good helps an old lady across a street without expecting a reward even if it they need to cross back to head to their destination.

Neutral helps an old lady across a street without reward if they need to cross the street.

Evil helps an old lady across a street for a reward.

NPC (Werdna) Evil helps an old lady half way across the street and then leaves her there.

Damn, boy, calm down.
>>
>>52174817
I dunno. I can't condemn vigilantism if it's in a lawless place.
The dungeon is a lawless place. They have to make their own justice here.
>>
>>52174923
It's not completely lawless though. It's been established that the local government has set up at least a rudimentary system for adventurers.
>>
>>52174923
The only thing I would suggest is turning them into the authorities but that requires lugging 5+ corpses to the surface whucheck isn't practical or feasible. But dumping the bodies leaves a bad taste in my mouth because this isn't justice, just veangence.

>>52174943
A law that authorities can't or won't enforce is just window dressing, though. Lawful doesn't (necessarily) mean "bindly follow rules fat lazy aristocrats wrote to line their pockets".
In fact, does Lawful necessarily have to do with state laws? Wouldn't a strict, but personal code of honor, which seems to be Kabru's case, also considered lawful?
>>
>>52174923
>I can't condemn vigilantism if it's in a lawless place.

Yeah but you also can't condone it - in a place with no fixed law, a knight acts according to their own personal code of honor.

And we see here that Kabru's "code" of "honor" can allow the slaying of captured prisoners and permakilling of citizens of the kingdom above, rather than taking them up to the surface for due lawful punishment by the local lawful authority.
>>
>>52175026

>>
>>52175000

Perhaps they were mercenaries or bounty hunters before they took up adventuring? Reformed bandits?

From what Kubru talks about he's at least seen some shit.

Sure changed my opinion on them from the comedic relief fuckup party right quik
>>
>>52175082
He's not just killing them for being serial robber-murderers. He's mad that people would detract from efforts to actually "finish" the dungeon and break the curse by treating adventuring as a purely economical endeavor.

He wants the threat of the dungeon's monsters to be put down for good and won't tolerate letting his party sway from that goal. The guy's a true fucking believer in his purpose and it's interesting to see that character arc show up in a lowbie side-story party.
>>
>>52175173
Yeah this chapter hints that they pretty shady. I still can't wait to see them get rekt by the dungeon again though.

Samurai possibly. The armor he is wearing is one of the traditional depictions of samurai scale armor.

I think I figured it out. These guys are specialized for dealing with conflicts with other humans. Which is why they keep getting fucked up. They're not able to adapt to dealing with different monsters.

I kind of hope they all get together and have to work towards a common goal like surviving another run-in with the sorcerer.
>>
>>52175338
They definitely won't be working together since they have too much of a conflict in their beliefs. Most likely Laius's party will realize that they have to protect the dungeon in order to save his imouto while the edgy mcfuck party will be actively trying to clear it.
>>

>>
>>52175632
I mean, it's implied that he has a thing for inter-species romance.
>>
Honestly, my biggest problem with this whole thing is that they were PROBABLY PRETTY GOOD AT CORPSE RECOVERY.
We need as many corpse recoverers as we can get to make sure adventurers die less.
>>
>>52175745
MUH profiteering tho

I know you revived me after I got myself killed, but you earn money for that service so I need to dump your bodies into the lake.
>>
>>52175745
>>52175813
the point is that they were casually murdering others to return their corpses over and over. A lot easier than searching for corpses when you can just follow the people you kill back and forth
>>
>>52175745

When they start intentionally getting people killed to collect the fee, I don't know if it's worth it anymore?

Like you could definitely see these guys leaving broke people to become more ghosts if they don't think they'd get any profit from it.

Come to think of it? I think Kabru's posse is a lot closer to the average adventurer party than Laius and the ohter MCs.
>>
>>52175844
see, the way I read it, that sounded like a small fraction of what they did.
I mean, I agree, that's totally shit tier, but from experience, the greasy fucks that toe the line tend to be some of the most effective in their jobs. Or the least.
one or the other, really.
>>
>>52175869
I agree, but it sounds like these guys weren't actually doing their jobs and were causing more corpses than they were returning

both parties involved in this chapter are pretty morally fucked though
>>
>>52175869

Isn't it also mentioned that excessive revivals can have nasty side effects? It's not something you want to do more than you have to, even with the option.
>>
>>52175909
Yes. Everyone involved in this situation could have done better.
>>52175916
???
>>
>>52175909
yeah these dudes don't seem to be too keen on critical thinking and instead run petty vengeful logic circles in their heads, they justify themselves waaay too easily. desu I'm afraid for Laius's party because they've done some pretty sketchy things to get by, but were always morally in the right not letting their emotions cloud judgement.
>>
>>52175745
>>52175813

It's not so much that they do it more for the money than the intention, but that they're just straight up letting people die (and even setting up their own deaths like in this chapter) despite their ability to help because they want to make a quick buck. That's pretty scummy.

Cabron is reasonable in his distaste for them although I'm not saying I advocate tossing them into the lake. The dungeon is an economic place, and once actual adventurers just stop going because too many scumbags are there to prey upon them, the only people left would be the scumbags which would lead to terrible things for the townspeople around the dungeon.
>>
>>52175950

Shit, I think it was in the chapter that focused on the dwarf chick who split with Laius? The old gnome's her new employer and I could swear he mentioned that once.
>>
>>52175909
Good point. Kabru's party could've done the 'right' thing and just left them alone, but they had to go full murderhobo. Their overall attitude seems pretty shitty too since they wouldn't even be alive if Laius hadn't dragged their bodies out of the water.
>>
>>52175995
I don't recall excessive reviving being stated to cause problems so much as trying to revive without enough of the original body left, but I could be not remembering things. I'm due for a reread sometime soon, I think.
>>
>>52175988
This. Laius might be a nutjob, but there's always someone's who's the voice of reason in his party, whereas it looks like everyone was just blindly following Kabru's orders.
>>
I never noticed how weird a word "whet" is until I saw how it is spelled in this chapter.
>>
>>52176072

I think the same here.

Even without the that, it's pretty clear these guys don't fuck around.

But there might be a pragmatic aspect to this too? If those corpse finders get revived and spread word about the adventurers that killed them to their buddies in the same field, the might never get rezzed themselves again.
>>
I fucking love Kabru's party. It's the rival group to the main cast, they have their analogues each, and it's moral ambiguity. They aren't malevolent, they are doing what they think is right and good.
>>
>>52176072
Which, looking back, was pretty big fucking foreshadowing for what happened to imouto-chan.
>>
>>52176068
I don't even understand why they're mad at the beginning of the chapter. Like how is it stealing food if it's from a corpse? And if they were dead how do they even know all these things happened that they're wildly accusing Laius's party of?
>>
>>52176163
They definitely seem a lot more morally compromised than Laius's. The worst Laius has done is cook mermen eggs.
>>
>>52176247
Initially angry because they didn't know the treasurebugs weren't actually treasure and they think Laius and co looted their goodies. Then they wake up from being killed by the mermen only to find out Laius and co took all their food, too.
>>
>>52175310

There's literally a town up above that regulates and compensates adventurers - deliberately trying to murder adventurers would likely either be a capital offence or at best lead to a situation where all the other adventurers will know what they did, they'll likely be cut off from any municipal funding to go into the dungeon (if they're not barred entirely from going down), will be unable to claim compensation for resurrections they perform, and if they still go down there other adventurers are likely to gank them on sight.

Again, taking them up to the surface would be the lawful good thing to do. ganking them without some sort of public hearing is dipping towards true neutral or lawful evil.

also dumb as fuck because now they'll become ghosts or zombies - marcille, who has no sense of right or wrong, would have been against the stump & dump plan
>>
>>52174280
Wait, isn't that there loot they are dumping? They just don't realize it because they think that Laius' group robbed them right?
>>
>>52176260
I mean they did also resurrect his sister using dark magic, granted Marcille didn't seem to think it was too big of an issue, but miss "Using dogs to harvest Mandrakes" might not be the best judge of morality.

It may turn out to be just misunderstood, but the dark magic might also turn out to be more reprehensible than we were initially lead to believe.
>>
>>52176260
>>52176384

I think the mangaka is toying with expectation, which is why this strange little manga about cooking food in a dungeon is so fucking good.
>>
>>52176384
Using the dragon to resurrect Farlyn isn't as bad as going out of your way to feed corpses you murdered to the fish imo. I'm going to wait to see what other repercussions Marcille's 'dark' magic has before drawing any other conclusions.

Also the dog and mandarake thing was a generally accepted textbook way of harvesting the damn things. Another reason why wizards have no sense of right or wrong.
>>
>>52176247
>>52176336
God, nothing annoys me more than "They're in conflict because of HIGHLARIOUS MISUNDERSTANDINGS". It's just such a stupid plot device, that only serves to aggravate the readers who know what's going on, when the characters don't. Especially when it's drawn out like this.

And what does the type of magic she used have to do with anything? Right now in this chapter we have somebody resurrecting someone with goat meat, but with no dark arts.
>>
>>52176787
Between the fact that the prepared meat itself obeyed the sorcerer and what the gnome cleric had to say about goat's blood, I'm really starting to feel like the whole dark magic thing is a red herring.
>>
>>52177083
The goat was probably brought from outside the dungeon, which means that the sorcerer has no control over it. Marcille's resurrection magic was definitely not normal judging from everyone's reactions.
>>
>>52176918
One series but yeah.

It is important to remember that the Wizardry series was one of the original blockbuster videogames. Both Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy were inspired by it.
>>
>>52177272
It's not normal from her own admission. It's an ancient forbidden ritual. I'm just not convinced it being a forbidden ritual was particularly relevant to Faryln's dragon slave situation.
>>
>>52177043
I suspect the difference between the two spells is the difference between the level 5 Di (Life/Raise Dead) and the level 7 Kadorto (Resurrection). Marcilla used Kadorto which can restore the dead from the "Ashes" (body destroyed state) that the Di spell can not.

>>
>>52177512
It's a bit of a chicken and egg-type case, because all games used to be pretty brutal and unforgiving. Point-and-click adventures and RPGs especially though.
>>
>>52177272
I think marcille's dark magic was controversial because of how much of the body was recreated with the dragon meat. Farlyn was only bones. replacing some blood with goat blood you maybe keep on you in a vial seems less so.
>>
>>52176068

I agree their overall attitude is pretty shitty, but by no means was letting dudes who are actively causing deaths in an already dangerous setting the right thing
>>
>>52178351
They are quick to judge. Even when concerning their own strength
>This level was too much for us, can't be helped
Laius' party is more curious and open minded, on the other hand. They're more flexible and that's why they're the better team
>>
>>52178415

Again, I think we agree on that point. Their attitude is shitty, they appear to have trouble translating what appear to be legitimate skills in other adventuresque endeavors to this particular sort of setting, and (possibly related to the last point) seem to frame almost everything in terms of conflict.

I'm just saying the one point I don't disagree with them on is their handling of this situation. The corpse collectors more or less tried to kill them. They'd be revived, of course, but the collectors had put themselves in a position of being a potential threat any group adventuring into the dungeon. They had effectively become part of the threat of the dungeon for anyone whose goal is to eliminate it.
>>
>>52177452
D&D was introduced to Japan through Wizardry which was a D&D dungeon crawl in digital form. Final Fantasy did draw a lot of stuff from D&D, but pretty much the original pitch at the (at the time) was "Lets develop a Wizardry style fantasy game."

No, the only money of theirs that the resurrecting bandits have is what the party lawfully paid for their own resurrection, meaning it's not theirs by right any more. Their money wasn't stolen, only the "treasure" (actually bugs) was missing.
>>
>>52176495
If resurrecting people was sensitive to the type of meat used in general, you'd think that's something people would know about. Seems like it's probably a result of both factors in confluence.
>>
>>52176452
Their ideological differences will eventually come to light if they tried to talk it out either way; there's a difference between starting off on the wrong foot and having the whole relationship be sour from the get-go.
>>
>>52176336
There was some treasure in there as well, which Senshi had the others drop.

Also, the grain was already spilled, so it would have gone to waste otherwise.
>>
>>52180235

yeah, the misunderstanding is just there to give them a reason to meet, rather than as the true conflict between the groups - imho that's a lot less garbage than "and now these two fight because neither of them thought to ask for that final episode of gekigenger 3 that they haven't seen.

>>52176495

It's probably the combination of the "dragon meat" probably being some sort of weird magical construct of the dank elf evil sorceror, and the dark magic used being connected fairly intimately to the dank elf and the dark magic at work through out the dungeon.
>>
>>52177415
Pretty sure the dragon slave situation came from the beast meat used was still "alive" and therefore under the control of the sorcerer. When Farlyn was ressed that meat became her meat and the control spell or whatever transferred to her.

I see how you could think that. >>52173639 is the party of the older Gnome priest from earlier and his Dwarf bodyguard that used to adventure with Laius and company. This party also includes the Gnome's old wife and the pair of Human bodyguards, though they're all either barely visible or, in the case of the Human male bodyguard, seemingly just off-screen.

>>52173686 is the party that >>52175139 was talking about. In the second panel, you can see the younger Gnome priest on the far right with the Dwarf fighter right next to him, along with the aforementioned Human sorceror, "Kobold" ranger, and Halfling thief.
>>
>>52180100
Except that during the treasure bug prep Laius group threw out their money because they thought they were inedible treasure bugs.
So a party not in the know would think that their treasure had been stolen and not just carelessly mishandled.
>>
>>52187995
>Laius group
It was rather Senshin telling them to throw them away because you can't eat treasure. Unusual behavior for a dwarf.
>>
>>52188037
Senshi didn't tell them to throw it away, he just didn't object when the Chilchack asked if they could throw it away since it was inedible.
All Senshi did was separate into edible and inedible without telling them that "inedible" meant real treasure until he was asked to clarify.

And Senshi is generally unusual for a Dwarf with no appreciation for metal at all as evidenced by his mithril cooking knives and adamantium pot.
>>
>>52188113
>he just didn't object
Now this is some kind of hairsplitting. He knew it was ordinary treasure, which even should have a use for, but had no problem with them wasting it. He is directly responsible for that.

Though this may have been a misudnerstanding, because Chilchack in the translation says "throw out", not "throw away".

What crime?
The other guys were trying to kill them, were happy to kill their own friends to scam the government, and were likely to betray and try to kill the party if the bribe didn't work or as soon as they let their guard down.

The begging guy claimed he wasn't a part of it but the whole deadly illusion was his doing and there was no indication he was forced into it, the others even stopped fighting when he was threatened.

Coming back from the dead is hardly a right and the corpse hunters probably would have gone back to their evil ways as soon as they did get resurrected.
>>

The thing is they can't prove that it wasn't a crime to the authorities.

>>52174950
>But dumping the bodies leaves a bad taste in my mouth because this isn't justice, just veangence.
How does that make it vengeance?
If bandits attack you is it vengeance if you dump their bodies by the roadside?
Giving them a proper burial and religious rights is definitely a good merciful action but it's going the extra mile rather than required.
>>
>>52196197
In this setting that condemns their souls to eternal torment though.
>>
>>52196197
He could have just left the bodies and carved a message saying they were thieves into their corpses. Revival heals the body but the message would be clear to anyone who finds them. Or just report what happened to the Governor and if anyone found the corpses and had them revived the bandits could be arrested afterwards. Dumping the bodies is unneccessary and was carried out because Kabru view people who aren't trying to clean the dungeon as not needed. I don't disagree with his sentiment, but I can't condone what he did either.
>>
>>52196190
I feel you may be applying more modern concepts of law and its enforcement to a high fantasy vaguely medieval world.
Why do they need to prove that? How could they even? If they drag up any random corpses and claim they were bandits who's to say otherwise?
If there isn't some kind of "truth magic" then how do they tell even if they take the party prisoner and bring them to the surface at great risk?

>>52196425
No more than anyone else who can't be recovered or resurrected, also see >>52195373, whereas if they let them go they may do more evil and even lead to more people being trapped.

>>52196443
>He could have just left the bodies and carved a message saying they were thieves into their corpses
And how do you tell if the message is true? Maybe they're even victims of thieves trying to remove or delay the call for justice.
They could get revived and flee before the party gets to the surface let alone bounties being put out.

>Dumping the bodies is unneccessary and was carried out because Kabru view people who aren't trying to clean the dungeon as not needed
Well that may have been a factor but not the sole reason and you're ignoring the context of the rest of what he said. It's hardly just that they're "not needed" but that people like them, thieves and murderers, will increasingly populate the dungeon and prey upon people and later spill out into the larger area if treasure is depleted before the curse gets lifted. They're just a few souls among countless others that will be trapped unless the curse is lifted and they might even contribute to more people getting trapped in their greed.
>>
>>52197405
The point that I'm making is that the authorities might simply not believe them and it is better to be safe than sorry.

>>
>>52198525
I can't fault Kabru for his actions, but I don't like them. You can argue that people wouldn't heed any messages and that's fair. But since carrying a bunch of corpses out of the dungeon isn't a possibility for this group I'd rather just leave them by the wayside and inform the constabulary of their wrongdoings. I don't like supposed good guys in a position of power just killing people in cold blood. (Referring to dumping the bodies because death doesn't stick in this dungeon).
>>
>>52199501
The thing is that it's risky and could go either way.
>>52199540
The thing is that he justified it himself with the whole "people like these guys cause dungeons to spill into the surface." Also I believe that the souls leave after a while otherwise it would be simple to resurrect people.

Which is where I tend to get fuzzy on whether or not the decision is right. His personal experience colors his reaction, but there is a governing body on the surface who could deal with this as well and once he gained control of the situation the ball was in his court. It might be naive of me to say this but I think just stopping at killing the gravekeepers was where he should have stopped. And once he went and murdered that mage I stopped rooting for him.

Why don't you go back to gaia/reddit/other random website? That still doesn't answer the question of why you type like shit.

probably because you have autism, tumblr anon.

Any 'legitimate corpse recovery' is nullified by their tendency to murder adventurers. They are hardly the only corpse finders active in the dungeon.

They are a plague upon the system and needed to be excised.
>>
>>52205660
The only reason you should kill the Joker is because apparently Arkham Asylum walls are made of paper. If the Asylum did its job, and actually be able to hold a lunatic behind locked doors for five fucking seconds, nobody would be on Batman's ass about not killing the Joker.

Same applies here. They could have not killed the corpse collector guys, and instead handed them over to the authorities to dole out some sort of fair punishment (which may or may not be getting executed).

Of course, you could argue that their justification of the system just getting gamed by them anyway and that they'd only get a slap on the wrist at worst, since the authorities don't really give a fuck, and they don't have hard evidence to convict them. That's also fair. If I was in their place, I may have done the same.
>>
>>52205718
see, just make them do community service for like two years.
You'd have the same positive effect, with significantly fewer gruesome murders.

Not sure on where is the nearest police(or equivalent) in the setting.

Assuming, you can't teleport out and have to walk your way up.
Unless you want the same shit happened again during your travel back. Killing them is the best choice.

Please don't bump the thread if you don't have anything to contribute.

Not if they prayed over the bodies. Which must be standard practice for all adventurers at that point.
Otherwise: Zombie mermaids!

It's a storytime. You bump the thread, it allows more anons to read it.

Using this thread to not create another one, a certain manga had a /tg/ chapter with a homebrewed game and I was wondering what you folks thought of the rules.

There is nothing to think about it, those are very simple joke rules used to make character related jokes (if the characters were different rules and cards would have been different to suit them, while still being as simple as posible to not take too much pannels).
Maybe some people can tell you what they think about the general idea of a sort of " life game", though.
Anyway, don't be afraid of making a new thread, there aren't many other useless whiny bitches like this idiot >>52212336 here, thankfully.
>>
>>52212506
Alright, quick review.
First, she really should try to debug games before having people play them.
The idea of using the cards as the spaces is good, but right now it's purely based on luck, so maybe something like pooling the die rolls together could give it some strategy. She should also take out the instant death spaces, maybe have them send the playr back to the start or something.
>>
>>52212336
Here's your (you) anon.

Also, what would it be like to find someone like Laius in your party?

I knew it.

>>52213006
Nah, he should be a sort of (beginner) gourmet, Laius already had a notebook about monsters he wanted to eat in the first chapter, it's just that Senshi is the pro gourmet so Lauis doesn't seems so educated when compared, but the guy in your party should be relatively knowledgeable and weirdly smart. Well, still weirder than smart, though.
