It's time walking.
I still don't get the safety cones and stonehenge though.
>>52166563
Sundials, and stonehenge had that whole mystery aspect to it years back, some of which included aliens and time travel. Stonehenge is a much more loose connection though, I think.
>>52166251

>>52166631
Stonehenge is connected to the seasons and ancient astronomy.
This guy and me go WAY back
Got him when I first started in an off season Garruk pre-built. My one copy his been in almost every majority green deck I have owned at some point or another. If only he were legendary himself

BIRDS OF PARADISE IS SHIT.
THAT'S RIGHT, I SAID IT. IT'S A PIECE OF SHIT CARD. I BET YOU PAID $100 TO HAVE THAT CRUSTY COLORFUL CUNT.
I never play black without it.
I love the hell out of this card and the split second mechanic.
Being able to remove something no questions asked is pretty damn awesome, being able to break the blue player's gauntlet of power whilst wiping their smug "I have counterspells" grin off their face with a power sander is pure divinity.
"I'll sudden death your creature."
"Ok, in response I'll- "
"Ssssh, no responses. Only dreams now"
"I'll cast Ass-Disaster for your life total."
"shit, I guess I'll-"
"Do nothing and die?"
"Fuck"
This card has saved my ass more times than I can count.
>>52172230
...in response I unmorph my willbender and change the target to your creature
Sold one of these for 30 bucks a while back. To my FLGS, because I like them.
Always loved the flavor text on this one.
Lili is best planeswalker
I always had fun buffing up elves with this card back in Lorwyn/Shadowmoor when people played elves.
And saving the best for last: I've always loved Elvish Archdruid.

It's stonehenge, you can look to the left of it and see the darker tones.
The only card you'll ever need
>>52164279
Not as good as the original wording.
>Opponent loses next turn
>>52175866
Why not use the real version of it?
>>52174970
There are solutions to split second, but those are few and far between.
I will admit, Willbender is a hilarious card that everyone in my playgroup has learned to play around. Voidmage Apprentice as well.
>>52175866
>>52176210
The cheese's wording is actually slightly better, it happens immediately as opposed to the beginning of upkeep.
>>52174981
When I play Yawgmoth's Will at the end of a long, drawn out game as a set-up to a finisher, it's a hell of a drug. The Black equivalent to Praetor's Counsel.
This little fucker is not as good- your opponents almost always see it coming unless you pay double for it (3 to cast and 3 to use in the same turn) and somehow give it haste (lightning greaves).
I will say though, being not as good as Yawgmoth's Will is still pretty damn incredible.
>>52174759

>>52182053
If stone rain is too strong for standard (which it is) vindicate is too strong. Having a 3-mana LD effect can be pretty mean. People at Wizards are HELLA touchy about LD in standard. I know on Blogatog, Maro has said something to the effect of- they do not intend to have LD as a viable deck strategy in any set they make from here on out ever again.
>>52182162
>Stone rain is too strong for standard
End your life
>>52182162
I remember in Theros there was an incredibly janky ass R/G land destruction deck that seemed fun but I was a budgetfag at the time so I don't know if it was actually "good" or not.
>>52182199
I'm not saying my personal opinion there. Wizards (through MaRo) stated that 3cmc for a targeted LD effect is too strong for standard.
I think LD is a dick-ass way to play, but I never thought stone rain was too strong personally.
my question- what is your attachment to LD / stone rain in particular that you react in such a manner?
>>52182210
Budget decks are an interesting tier of play. They can be pretty fun. In Theros, though, a deck with LD would definitely not be anywhere near top-tier. The dark times of Gary and Nightveil Spectre persisted.
>>52181940
*better

I have never stopped loving this card. I will squeeze it into any deck I can.
not really the best card or anything, but i really like it for some reason
>>52182872
I miss having triggers work this way. It was less friendly towards newer players and less intuitive, but it led to a cool sort of reward for understanding how the stack worked. I love this guy like you would not believe. I use it frequently with Goblin Bombardment.
This card is one hell of an underrated (at least in my playgroup) piece. People look at it and think, "oh- one damage. That's not so bad". Then I swing with a buttload of weenies, then throw them for massive damage. my favorite is when I put a player to low enough life that I can end them at will and at instant speed. If they do anything to mess with me, I kill them in response and exile their shit off the stack. In a perfect world anyways.

>>52182133
Enlighten us then, oh venerable meme guru
>>52183752
The joke started because of people noting that blue cards are inherently better than non-blue cards, because you can pitch them to Force of Will. People took this to a logical extreme, saying shit like "Storm Crow is objectively better than Akroma," etc.
>>52176210
The "un" sets have always been a testing ground for new/strange mechanics and concepts
Think of Cheese as the prototype of Barren Glory
>>52164231
>not muh mad potato head
>>52183100
My playgroup trembles in fear when I get Goblin Bombardment on the table with my Niv Mizzet EDH deck, since they know a Mass Mutiny or Insurrection is coming soon after
>>52174440
Morph doesn't use the stack. Triggers however, do so unfortunately it wouldn't work.
>>52184701
But triggered abilities are not activated, and thus can get around split second if a trigger is met.
>>52184701
Read split second out loud to yourself and see why morph triggers would work
>>52183330I thought those were arrowheads. Then shovels.I see shields but they should be shovel heads.
>>52184906
How is morph a triggered ability? It has no trigger besides an activation cost, just like every other activated ability. If morph is a triggered ability then so are mana abilities.
>>52185212
Morph is a special action that doesn't use the stack.
The triggered ability that will bender has (which triggers when you morph it) will trigger as split second doesn't stop triggered abilities.
>>52176295
Holy cockmeat I love Praetor's Counsel. Playing commander for funsies and I drew my deck. This (> <) close to a Hypergenesis before the game ended. That's what I get for fucking around . . .
>>52185373
Yes, but split second states you cannot activate abilities that aren't mana abiities so you couldn't activate the morph ability
probably my favorite card to be honest. lots of fun to be had.
>>52185562
702.36e
step 1. play this against lantern control
step 2. wait until the answer you need is on the top of your library
step 3. draw said answer
step 4. laugh heartily.
>>52185562
morph is NOT an activated ability. you are not ACTIVATING it. you can turn the creature over, and the ability simply triggers.
>>52185821
Why is a researcher named "bridge"
>>52185821
>In response, mill again.
>>52181940
Time Walk gives an extra land drop, an extra upkeep, and still draws a card.
>>52182286
Gary is still relevant in Pauper.
Mono-Black Control is the 2nd best deck there.
>>52176221
>>52174970
Isn't Morph an activated ability that is activated as an instant, so Split Second would prevent that? The flipping may trigger an ability, but it still needs to be activated first.
>>52186190
That's wrong for lots of reason.
First off: Morph is a static ability, not an activated ability.
Far more importantly: 702.36e
>Any time you have priority, you may turn a face-down permanent you control with a morph ability face up. This is a special action; it doesn’t use the stack (see rule 115).
>>52185985
Pontifex means "bridge maker", so it'd be one who crosses gaps. It's a good name for a researcher.
>>52186190
>>52186103
mana abilities don't use the stack
>>52186383
Oh, also: You only "Morph' the card when you put it face down. Turning it face up is just turning it face up.
Morph *lets you* turn it face up (even if say, pic related was what put ti face down), but it's not "morphing" to turn it face up.
>>52186387
See I always got confused at points like these, does Chromatic Sphere count as a mana ability?
>>52183033
I love this card. I wish I had one for my Zur
>>52186178
>Time Walk gives an extra land drop, an extra upkeep, and still draws a card.
Remand does all of the above as well provided that your opponent taps out that turn.
>>52186625
The difference between Chromatic Sphere and say, Deathrite is that Deathrite targets. That's what makes Deathrite's ability NOT a Mana ability.
>>52183033
I've always loved this art. Neat reference to those old paintings and stained glass windows featuring saints.
>>52186510
I wonder why this card doesn't see any play. Seems like you could do some stupid neat stuff with it.
>>52167892
>>52164231
I've been longing for five new incarnations ever since Lorwyn block.
Something like:
>Diligence
Gives First Strike
>Inquest
Gives Prowess
>Craving
Gives Lifelink
>Zeal
Gives Menace
>Accretion
Gives Reach
>>52186625
yep. Unlike chromatic STAR, where the draw is a triggered ability.
>>52187306
Because it got errata'd to hell and back and it's a pain keeping track of what its actual rules are.
>>52168234
>>52187820
The underlining ruins it imo.
Love this guy, was the box cover rare for the first magic deck I ever bought, an intro pack from Eventide
Him and his buddy Creakwood Liege sneak their way into as many of my decks as they can fit in.
>>52187806
Yeah, I don't even know how it was intended to function even originally, with the whole "which you still have to spend," in there.
But as the Oracle text is now, it seems like a neat way to cheat in fatties or any number of dudes with bad ETB triggers.
>>52187873
>(X): You may choose a creature card in your hand whose mana cost could be paid by some amount of, or all of, the mana you spent on (X)
No cheating in fat dudes allowed.
>>52187922
Ah I misunderstood the wording there. Nevermind.
>>52187994
But still, Phyrexian Dreadnaught without needing to Stifle, or Skaab Ruinator. Maybe Eater if Days if you think you can be slow enough. But gimmicks are my fetish, so pay me no mind.

>Play Riku of Twin Reflections EDH
>Ramp into the heavens and Mana Flare
>Cast Vigor and duplicate him
>Cast Kiki-Jiki and copy Vigor
>Cast Pestermite, Zealous Conscripts, or Deceiver Exarch and untap Kiki-Jiki to copy Vigor a fourth time
>No Vigors take any damage because they protect each other and twice as many counters are distributed
>Blasphemous Act
>Mfw
>>52188252
Seems like a buttload of effort when you could've spent SIGNIFICANTLY less mana and just cast Kiki-Jiki and Zealous conscripts together.
>cast Kiki-Jiki
>Cast Conscripts
>Tap Kiki-Jiki, copy Conscripts
>Conscripts untaps Kiki-Jiki
>Repeat literally ad infinitum
>Win with infinitely more damage than a bunch of creatures with counters from multiple copies of Vigor could ever manage
>>52190511
Can't wait til amonkhet desu
>>52186178
>Mono-Black Control is the 2nd best deck there.
No, not at all. Have you played Pauper at all in the past year?
>>52169658
This, Eldrazi were a mistake
It's obvious
>>52188252
you lost me there, champ. You have conscripts/exarch/pestermite + kiki0jiki, and you copy VIGOR?
what the hell is wrong with you?
>>52190713
not him, but gary is kind of relevant.
True - you don't see him around as often as you did, but MBC still manages 5-0 online.
I have 7 (soon 9) pauper decks (IRL) at the moment, and my Mono Black Blink is fun to play (basically mbc splashing white and blue off 4 expanse, 1 island, 1 plains and 4 prisms to play 3 momentary blinks and abuse gary/rats/rager,a nd still have 15 swamps so I can play corrupt/tendrils).

>>52199541
I picked one up many moons ago, and I only have one because of the price.
This card has become the unspeakable terror of my Feldon EDH deck, and the scourge of those with no enchantment removal.
Using sneak attack to bring out a creature with an ETB effect is a special kind of awesome. My highlight is sneak-attacking out a mindclaw shaman to nab a counterspell from an opponent's hand and stop a threat. The look when the monored player counters something is something I will never forget.
>>52174823

>>52167352
i love this card too. before i got into magic (like a year ago) , birds of paradise was one of the most regocnizable cards to me, even more so than black lotus for reasons unkown. i drafted the shit out of bop during conspiracy take the crown
>>52187096
Your opponent still gets a card, your upkeep, and your opponent still gets their land drop.
Time Walk puts you *ahead*, Remand partially puts them behind.
>>52197636
such a good card, and one of my favourite art
>>52196403
Split second limits what you can do when you have priority.
Split second does not prevent you from having priority.
If it did, all split second cards would force a tie once put on the stack.
Spells can't resolve until everyone passes priority.
>>52171139
Fuckin A
>>52196630
>Hence
It's surreal.
>When Oubliette enters the battlefield, exile target creature and all Auras attached to it.
>Note the number and kind of counters that were on that creature.
>When Oubliette leaves the battlefield, return that exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control tapped with the noted number and kind of counters on it.
>If you do, return the other exiled cards to the battlefield under their owner's control attached to that permanent.
Interestingly enough, it scrubs counter off the Auras.
The original wording does too, but probably wasn't intended too.
