They've said that part of it is the sculptors choosing what they want to make. Thinks like reviving guilliman were after a group discussion on which primarch to bring back.

Releasing shit that will get you the most money is the only smart business decision, hence more SM shit than DE.

This plus whatever the design team/Jes Goodwin wants to do, I imagine the team holds brainstorming meetings and throw ideas around to see what sticks then make it into a model and then write a codex/rules for it.

So what we learned from the new fluff is that the veil that separated reality and the warp was shattered a long time ago for some reason. The Necrons built pylons and spread them across the galaxy. These pylons separated real space from the Warp and isolated it. However, they were forced to sleep before they could complete their work but their incomplete work assured the continued existence of the galaxy as the pylons are the only things preventing the galaxy from sinking permanently in the Warp. The peace that followed was wrought by Necron cold hands.

However, as the Necrons slept, the pylons got neglected. The passage of time damage the pylons or outright destroyed them. As the galactic pylon network was whittled away by time, the power of the Warp that it kept in check started to get stronger and expand its hold on reality. But the Necrons have foreseen this and programmed the pylon network to reassign the work load of destroyed pylons across the network. It put stress on the remaining pylons but disaster was prevented this way. However, the Necron did not foresee the Eldar's great folly that resulted in the Eye of Terror bursting into reality. This put tremendous stress on the pylon network but the Eye was shackled into its place rather than annihilating the galaxy.

Years later, the HH happens and then the Black Crusades commenced afterwards. Having been told about the pylons, Abaddon seeks out and destroys the pylons across the galaxy increasing the power of Chaos dramatically until it reached the final boiling point in the 999 41M with the destruction of the Cadian Pylons. The remaining pylons in the galaxy are too few to prevent the Eye from growing and consuming the galaxy but their existence is buying time for the races of the galaxy to find a solution.

So what that said....how can you guys call Necrons "Bad Guys" when it is their work that kept the galaxy safe for 60 million years?

Because I was asked here is proof of Tyranids being capable of hate and petty vindictiveness. Tyranidfags try to keep your triggered levels to a minimum.

>Yriel plunged his spear deep into the rearing serpent. It keened terribly, and Yriel salivated as his weapon drank. Since the day he had lost his eye due to the spear feasting on the limitless hive mind, he had managed to control its fell power and its obscene appetites, but at this final pass he no longer had the strength, and the spear’s murderous soul overwhelmed him. He could not stop it feeding, drawing upon the infinity of spirit the Great Devourer possessed. Yriel felt the hive mind, heard it howl. It thrashed about, and Yriel was battered by its anger. Its thoughts were utterly, unimaginably alien. But one thing came through strong and loud. Hatred, hatred for this creature that had for the first time in untold aeons wounded it.

>>52160490

I have to admit 40k went to shit when they started writing about the setting from a non-imperial point of view.

Back then it was all short stories from humans writing about happenings and xenos, and the lore was kept grim and vague, based on speculation.

The warriors, who make up the bulk of the necron armies, do pretty much only what they are ordered to do. They have no free will, it was lost in the transition to their new bodies or whatever may be left is supresssed via their programming.
And the nobility usually sees them as just that: robotic slaves waiting to serve their masters wishes. Pretty grim desu

>Something was wrong. A sensation at the back of her mind. The sensation grew teeth, became pain.

>Her soul was gripped by agony.

>Iyanna screamed, falling from the edge of the couch. The pain abated, then squeezed her anew. She vomited.

>The dead were dismayed. The blow against her raced out across her attack group, leaping from mind to mind. Wraithbomber engines guttered out. The Wraithborne’s sleek cruisers turned viciously, wallowing in psychic swell.

>Bright light burned at Iyanna’s soul. A long tunnel telescoped away, encompassing infinite distance. A tube stabbed through the fabric of the world. She felt its ripples in the warp. She felt its ripples in the webway.

>She had the sense of an eye, slave to a great power. An intellect that dwarfed the Great Wheel of the galaxy. She opened her second sense, to find the Dragon looking at her with terrible regard.

>For aeons it seemed it held her in its gaze. And there was fury in that examination.

>The Dragon was angry, and it was angry with her. Not with the galaxy, or this sector, or her species. But with her personally. The promise of endless torment came from it, her very being enslaved to its ends and used against others, her body rebuilt over and again so that it might suffer the Dragon’s revenge.

>Terror of a kind she could not have conceived of flooded her mind. She screamed again, and this time every eldar in the fleet screamed with her.

>For all his early life, Dante had been taught to mistrust the alien. It was true the least offensive xenos harboured a deep perfidy. Lenience towards xenos species bought a bounty of betrayal. But in all his long years, he had never truly hated them, not as some of his brothers did. Non-humans strove only to survive as mankind strove. Dante had gleaned enough of the galaxy’s history to know that more often than not, folly and hubris had undone the great civilisations of the past, humanity’s first stellar empire included, and not external threat.

>>Mankind had more in common with other sentient species than the adepts of Terra would admit. He supposed that was why aliens were so easy to hate. Not for him. Besides the treacheries and atrocities he had witnessed by xenos hand, he had seen nobility, honour and mercy. Twice recently, he had been forced to fight alongside the necrons against the tyranids. On neither occasion had these most arrogant of aliens betrayed the alliance. Flashes of the virtues and the graces were in all living things.

>In the tyranids, he had finally found something to hate, and powerfully. His loathing for them was the strongest emotion outside of the thirst he had felt for centuries. There could be no accommodation with the tyranids, only war. They had no redeeming features. When he had seen them as beasts, he had regarded them as a problem. When he had learned of the existence of the hive mind, he had come to view them as an existential threat. Now that mind was proving to be as vindictive as the cruellest man, he had grown to despise it.

>>52161012
That's fine though, as long as you aren't insistent that your particular tastes are what everyone else should follow.

>>
I don't get why people think it's impossible for chaos to exist after eating the galaxy. It clearly says when they consume the galaxy, only the warp will be left, but the warp doesn't play to natural laws. Any laws the existence of reality imposed on the warp would be rendered null and void when only The Realm of the Impossible is left.
>>
I don't really get the hate for 'nids lack of diversity in their goals.

Imho the fluff is already overloaded with agendas, secret agendas and counter agendas, they added a new race (Tau) and people bitch about their fluff being unnecessary.
Tyranids are more like some back water threat that slowly grows and applies more and more pressure with no obvious means of stopping it without desperate measures.

Tyranids can bring worlds into disarray and revolt, tyranids can create unlikely alliances and bitter betrayals. Tyranids can create unlikely heroes or condemn to legend the settled ones.

They are super easy to fluff and offer good opportunities for history development. Regardless if they are the biggest threat or not. Why not have them around?

Also as a microbiologist I enjoy the pseudoscience behind them (as well as orks)
>>
must suck being a mon-kiegh eh anon?

Not necessarily, people exist in the warp, and not just the semi-warp like the Eye. And I'm not just talking about Draigo either, like in the not!Draigo story in Codex Chaos Daemons when Not!Draigo passed through all the people who wandered into Slaanesh's palace and was trapped there for eternity.

It happened a lot more in Fantasy sure, but mortals in the warp is not entirely unheard of in 40k.

But it would still significantly reduce the number of people Chaos has to feed off of.

Remember that time Horus was going to take control of the Imperium with the backing of Chaos but then Chaos dicked him over because they gained far more by keeping a status quo of a galaxy constantly at war with itself than by just consuming it?

There's considerably more to it than that. The Eldar throw everything they have at them and run out of shit to throw, so they need to dig up old shit they didn't even know they had to throw at them, and even then it's not enough until literally every single sub-faction and big name intervenes. It's pretty desperate and makes Nids look strong without making Eldar look stupid. Only Nid story I can think of where they were kinda horrifying.

No, no I don't. That sounds like a Black Library thing and vaguely inconsistent with how both chaos and the heresy was described beforehand. I do recall the chaos gods being assshittingly scared of Emps though and fleeing Horus, only to take over Luther instead, and he denies them after felling the Lion.

Nah, because I stopped reading Black Library years ago, so all my knowledge of the final fight comes from higher quality sources of fluff; like ones written by 40k's creator.

Y-You do realize they've been trying to make a new God without all the things that makes Slaanesh fucking Slaanesh for real life years, right? Like well over a decade building this up and hinting at it. How can you possibly act disappointed? Hell, all the old lore said Ynnead was going to kill Slaanesh, and that would have been something worth complaining about, yet GW deliberately and explicitly had the birth fail and Ynnead no longer has the power to kill Slaanesh, just so Slaanesh stays in the game.

Or, you could just have him be stabbed by a Nurglite blade and have a daemon tell him that the Emperor is actually ebil. Trust me, the literal Gods of murder, death, lies and coked up murederfuckery told me so. Time to kill daddy, yay!

The decision to rebel was made with free will, a big part of Horus' ongoing storyline in the Heresy series is him refusing to be Chaos' pawn and ADB's Abaddon novel has him continuing down the same path.

Well that's just a gipped premise, iddnt?

They are eldar-created gods. Both are birthed exclusively and explicitly from the full spectrum of the powerful eldar psyche - one from wanton excess and self-indulgence, the other discipline and self-control. They are yin to yang and likewise reflections of each other - GW stated this in their design talks about the Avatar and why they made it also hermaphrodite. You can't just say "besides the thing that makes them similar, how are they similar?"

Well then all the Eldar Gods are like Slaanesh then are they? Is Khaine like Slaanesh? What about Cegorach? Asuryan? Isha? None of these Gods are similar outside of being Eldar in origin. Ynnead is closer to an opposite if anything. Slaanesh represents life in all it's excesses whereas Ynnead is the cold void of death. Probably why he's the one described as "anathema" to Chaos.

https://trackofwords.wordpress.com/2016/12/02/interview-with-laurie-goulding-part-two/

>Yeah, absolutely. I mean, one of the things that’s been said lots of times is that all of the IP is created equal. All of the background of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, the Horus Heresy – everything is cool, and I think the only way that stuff appears not cool is if people either overthink it or if not enough detail of context is given.

>is Ynnead a second slaanesh, or corrupted by slaanesh?

That yet remains to be seen.

At any rate, it's a fragment of an Eldar god (nowhere near the strength of Slaanesh, who is the weakest Chaos God) and will therefore share many, many similarities with Slaanesh, which is also a Chaos God that is very heavily influenced by the Eldar above any other race.
>>
>>52163526

Slaanesh is very, very likely to come back to AoS, as there is a named Sorcerer of Slaanesh who is actively seeking to find and release it and bring it back to the forefront.

Believe it or not, I think they realized that killing off a major player of a setting that had existed since its inception was kind of a bad idea, and one they will almost certainly not be repeating in 40K (if only because it's completely invalidate three separate model lines in that universe - 40K Emperors Children, 30K Emperors Children, and Daemons)

Pretty much once a turn with the Vindicare. I use him as a force multiplier of sorts. I use Hellfire rounds and target special/heavy weapons mostly because they literally cannot escape. No armour, cover or invuln, 2+/4+ to hit, 2+ to wound and cannot take LoS! Anything multiwound is a problem for him so the highest I go after are sergeants due to a single wound. Any dangerous gun I don't want levelled at my other dudes, I take out. He's expensive but he's worth his weight in gold in support.

The other dudes like sniper drones and stealthsuits.. not that many times. Apart from being on 6s, I mostly gave them the ATS because it's dirt cheap and makes the most sense for such a large amount of shots. I always assign them to special guns and leaders.

They aren't a fucking villain. They aren't even CONTENDING to be a villain.
You don't call a tornado villainous because it razes cities, it's just doing what it naturally does and humans just happened to be in the way.
The appeal isn't "oh they're gonna destroy the setting huehue" but that they're a force of nature that can't be culled or reasoned with, you either destroy them or they destroy you.
If you aren't interested by that then that's on you, not everyone else.

Let's see... average Spess Mahreen's 7 feet tall.
So that makes... Vulkan 14 feet tall (what the zog were they feeding this guy as child?!).

Which means the Beast Vulkan fought was at least 28 feet tall.

28 feet tall is roughly the equivalent to a modern-day 3-story house.

So, hab-block is 40k's equivalent to a house. Good to know...

Also, I pity Yarrick if Ghazzy ever gets that big and those two come face-to-face again... he'd literally be a stain on Thraka's giant metal boot if that ever happens.

In my 2e codex, thunder hammers are only available on dreads (hadn't been downsized to man-portable), and IIRC storm sheilds weren't available at all. In return our Terminators had access to, um, chainaxes and power mauls, which were not really much less underwhelming back then either.

Fact of the matter is, people are here to shitpost and discuss Warhammer 40k, not read about some dude's dad. If you don't want to get mocked, don't tell a bunch of strangers about the incredibly spergy thing that you're about to do.

Educate me as to how that's any worse than interring his dad's remains in some stone or marble urn with no emotional or psychological connotations whatsoever?

It's a fucking container. For all you know, the guy's dad may have gotten him into the hobby, he may have given him his old army and anon built upon it. Even if that's not the case, the hobby means different things to different people. For people who are into the fluff, it's a statue commemorating a great hero, if you're a WAACfag who only gives a fuck about steamrolling 14 year olds then yeah it's just a plastic toy.

Dude's coping with that in his own way, he's interring his dad's remains into a statue of a hero of the imperium as a form of respect. Ain't nothing disrespectful about the material of the container, rather it's more meaningful due to what it represents.

Is there any fluff of Tau fighting daemons? I can't see daemons being able to do shit to tau, seeing as tau aren't retarded enough to to go melee with Daemons and would easily target and BTFO their heralds and greater daemons with superior weapons systems.

I'm an Ork player who's a big fan of Ork lore, and I completely forgot about that. Shame on me.

Not all witchfires roll to hit. Witchfires count as shooting attacks for rules purposes but unless the witchfire has a weapon profile, it does not need to roll to hit. Manifesting it is enough. So you can cast Scrapcode Curse to fuck a flyer even as a footslogging dude with no skyfire.

It is really not. One is a form of coping and remembrance mostly in private, the other is not knowing how to behave in a mostly social situation.

Unless it's to fulfill some dare your jokester dad made you swear to, then wearing SM cosplay to their funeral would be in poor taste.

>And yes, carving it from wood would make it infinitely better.
Ok so I AM right then. The fact it's a space marine or part of a "toy soldier hobby" isn't the problem, it's the material of the container. Which is fucking stupid.

Echoes of the Long War (Book 6 in The Beast Arises series) shows some semblance of Ork society in the fluff. Granted, it's mostly dem shifty Blood Axe gits turning Prax into their personal playpen, but it's an Ork society all the same.

Until the Fist Exemplars and Iron Warriors come along and pull an Exterminatus on the planet. They're dicks like that.

So this talk of 2E terminators has me thinking...

My friends and I play HoR Kill Team, and we like scenario games more than skirmishes. Would a 5-man squad of 2E termies be a good opponent against two 7E 250pt kill teams? A 10 man squad? We usually play on Space Hulk tiles, so the terrain will be really tight with lots of corridors.

The chief difference with these termies will be the 3+, 2D6 armor save (with save modifiers, which I can easily look up), stacking invul saves if they take a shield, and Rapid Fire + Sustained Fire special rules with the old stormbolters.

>>52165283
Calgar was T5, W4, and heroes came with "ranks" like Champion, Hero, and Mighty hero - For example, a Chaplain Champion was T4, W1, and most infantry were only W1 like normal.

To my understanding, damage was only relevant for those few multi-wound characters, as it wasn't dolled out like the wound pool is today.
>>
>>52165396
Access to better melee weapons would help them a lot.
>>
>>52165424
>Heroic Senior Officer

Oh the days when 20pts? 25pts? meant your IG Commander didn't get ID'd by literally everything in the game... Rip Medallion Crimson.
>>
>>52165283
>Like, you could see 10 wound characters
not... particularly. Outside of carnifexes and greater daemons the most you'd see is 4 or 5.

Thing is, there was no instant death in 2e. Functionally speaking a character hit by a lascannon would be fucking dead, but there was the chance to roll snakes on its damage roll and only cause two wounds.... and then there's also the time you roll two twelves with your multi-melta and blow up a greater daemon in one shot.
>>
>>52165424
I think you should use 2E stuff vs 2E stuff. Adapting everything else but the 7E units is weird and combat won't be half as satisfying.

So the way it works is if you hit, you then roll the SF die, and the number is the number of actual hits (or a jam)?

So a storm bolter using Rapid Fire, you roll two die, and if they both hit, you roll two SF die? Or do you do one shot first, then the second? I notice the land raider in the example is firing together, but I don't know if that applies.
