Got my copy of the GS Companion book today. One thing I found really interesting about Goodwin/Seb Perbet's sketch of Guilliman is that they thought about giving him items and motifs to represent some of the other loyalist Primarchs. Ferrus' spanner, Sanguinius' wings, Belt of Russ, Hand of Dorn (Instead of Hand of Dominion), and the Lion's Sword (Instead of nothing or the Emperor's Sword.) Guilliman also would or does have signets inside his gorget with a mixture of empty space and skulls for the living and dead loyalist Primarchs.

His armor is of course so big because it's walking life support device/statis field, with covered ports on the back that are for the purpose of recharging the suit.

The rest of the model looks alright, just the highlights are a little chalky. He obviously needed a smaller brush to do them. This same problem applies to the face, as the painter doesn't seem to have a small enough brush to do eyes. There's also no shading or blending done on the face, so it looks flat compared to the rest of the model.

1) There is a tutorial how to photograph minis. This will help more than anything in diagnosis.
2) The paints appear to be thinned but there are no distinguishable washes or highlighting save for the boots.
3) I too struggle with faces friend. Washes and highlights and camera tricks help.

4) Subjectivity : The head is mounted too high up. The mouth should be half way concealed under the golden outcrop in the chest unless her neck is that of a giraffe. Normal space marines have this issue as well but female heads tend to pronounce it even more. When I think of a guy in armour with fuck-huge shoulderpads I think of the neck support commonly assosciated with NFL players where the shoulders can be brought up to reinforce the neck during violent interactions with other large men in armour.

Which is exactly what I posted earlier. The artist needed a smaller brush for highlights and faces, as well as more variety in fleshtones.

I'd recommend this method:

> Cadian Fleshtone
> Wash with Reikland Flesh-shade
> Do a super tiny line of white scar with your smallest brush, but don't feel bad if you fuck it up at this stage
> Do a super tiny dot for the eye colour you want
> Use Kislev flesh on everything except the recesses
> Use palid wych flesh on the finest parts of the model

I mean technically you can get away with smudging the eyes and fixing them afterwards, but I'm skilled enough at painting faces that I just don't make mistakes at that stage, it leads to better looking faces since you retain the recess shades around the eyes.

For much the same reason that I hate Necrons and Chaos because fans of all three love to go on about how they will "win" and no other faction can possibly beat them. Admittedly Chaos is the worst about it, but I've met some pretty annoying Nid players in my time. I want a setting where everyone has a chance and is on even footing because that keeps things interesting. I don't want clear "winners" or power level wankery. So I hate Nids Necrons and Chaos. At least fluff wise. I have respect for the guys who play Nids, and I like gaming with them as long as it ain't a flying circus. Crons I just hate period. Not much fun to play against, not any fun in lore. I like the guy who plays them at my local store, but damn do I hate his army. As for Chaos...well I can't say I hate all of them as I finally met a decent human being who plays them, but the vast majority can go fuck themselves.

You buy sternguard for their bolters and that's it. Maybe put 2-3 combi weapons as a just in case sort of thing, but don't be that idiot that listens to 1d4chan and equip them with heavy flamers or whatever, you're paying serious points for those bolters, you'd be an idiot to pay MORE points to throw them away. Keep the unit cheap, a five man squad with two combi weapons, or a ten men squad split into two combat squads. Pods are a good delivery for them since you're paying too much of a premium to have them spend 1-2 turns just driving towards the enemy. Basically point and shoot, nothing else to say, sternguard will never blow your mind, but at the same time they will always perform to expectations, and can engage different types of targets with ease. A reliable albeit lackluster unit that should be used to support your main force. Just like in the fluff really.

10/10 kit for conversions. I kitbashed 5 captains from the sternguard set mainly.

They're ok and can take a heavy flamer, but 5 is too little and 10 gets too expensive. Or you can get two or three 5 man squads. Combi weapons are a meme and a waste of points. Use a special weapon if you so need it, but that's pointless because of the command squad which I'll get to later.

Sternguards are just good tacticals

The absolute best with the current meta, but you have to powergame and fuck the lore. Dont take a Company Champion, Standard Bearer or Apothecary. The Command Squad is the 5 man special weapons squad. Equip all 5 with grav guns, meltaguns, plasma or flamers in a drop pod and wreck the enemy.

Also you havent touched on Vanguard veterans, which are a creat CC choice or an escort for your Captain. They get the cheapest thunder hammers and lightning claws.

Splashing a couple of points on Sternguard combiweapons is fine, as long as you don't equip the entire squad with them. Heavy flamer is a silly choice though, unless maybe you're salamanders, sternguard should be used for their special issue ammo only, taking away their bolters defies the point of a the unit.

It's a nice list, but you might find it a bit inflexible. I would switch your captain for a Lvl 2 librarian (cheap HQ, gives you psyker options), I would consider a drop pod for your dreadnought (needs to be close for the assault cannon and flamer), I wouldn't bother with a command squad with grav guns (just attach HQ to one of your tacticals), I would consider some Devs with missiles (flexible, can bust armour + hordes), I'm not a big fan of speeders, but if you have to have one then make sure it is a heavy bolter/special weapon combo (again, versatility is your friend, and I would probably go with Melta) and, as has already been said, get your other tactical squad in a rhino.

Hope that helps, but remember, all armies will have weak points and strengths. Just play a few games and see what works. If you are on a budget, use makeshift replicas (or even bits of paper with the name of the model on them) and see how they play on the board.

At the moment, you have a dreadnought fitted with a long-range lascannon, and a short-range flamer. Is it going to stand at the back and shoot, or is it charging in? If you want a gun platform, take lascannon and missile launcher, if you want assault highjinks, assault cannon and flamer, in a drop pod.

It's already been mentioned elsewhere, but you need to make a decision on your librarian. At higher points, I might consider taking the terminator armour and attaching him to a squad of terms, but at lower points you are better off ditching the terminator armour (makes him cheaper) and attaching to a unit of goons - that way he can travel in the razorback.

If you have enough points (maybe ditch command squad as well), I would recommend a squad of devs with missiles, just to give you some ranged flexibility.

I'm also unsure about the storm-bolter on the predator - is it going to be getting that close to units? I'd think about dropping it for a few more points and keeping it out of range of anything nasty.

I thought the other day that if they feel like having Canticles and Doctrina Imperatives on all the units is too powerful to combine them, which is why they don't have a singular Codex or decent combined Formation (outside of the clearly way too good WarConvo) maybe just have a rule that makes it so units with the Doctrina Imperatives special rule count as having Canticles for the purposes of counting up how many units in your army have Canticles, but they don't benefit from it. That way, you aren't gimping yourself with the parasitic Canticles mechanic by taking Skitarii.
