Hey fellows, how about a thread about maps?
What do you think makes for a good battlemap you'd want to use? Something with interesting features, or with traps included- like a little write-up summation? Does it have to look nice, or do you prefer more straightforward and easy to read designs? Grids or hexes?
If you've made any yourself, post 'em on up!

Is there a place where you can buy isometric dry erase battlemaps? Are they a bad idea?

That looks pretty fuckin' neato, but I reckon the disparity between the top-down models and that would be a bit fucky for me.
I'm also not familiar with, well, *anywhere* that seels such things. Guess someone should jump on that ball, eh?

my biggest concern is that i fear it wouldn't look right unless all your players were viewing it from the same side of the table. I've seen it used to great effect in roll20 though

Ah yeah I can see how online, that might work really well! I think there may be struggle involved in a real-world one for the reasons you say though; especially in cases where the player can't reach to move their own model.
Meaty dungeon maps are my jam.
Homemade one, I like to use hexes as they tend to keep movement better...I guess not so great with straight-line structures though.
I personally like more stories dungeons and maps rather than a straight-up battle map, which I don't use.
