Too defenseless to soak that many points into them. They'll get killed before they get into CC.

I'd say you bring one shooty squad and one melee squad--axes only, no LC or PF. Infiltrate both. Hide the melee in cover for a turn while the gunmen + Cypher soak fire pop some motherfuckers. Turn 2, bring the axemen out of cover and charge what's left.

Distracting and dangerous if not dealt with. Gives you time to move up the rest of your army to lock them in CC or pick off shooting units/cap objectives.

The audience chamber was empty but for Yvraine, the Visarch, and Guilliman. In a matter of hours, the Terran Crusade would depart Macragge, yet the Primarch had found a few moments to speak to the Ynnari leaders alone. Even after weeks of mutually fruitful alliance, most warriors would have been cautious of standing alone in the presence of two such sinister and powerful xenos. Guilliman was not most warriors.
‘It will be a long and dangerous journey,’ said Yvraine. ‘The galaxy grows darker by the day. Have a care, Primarch. You may have cheated death once, but you are not invincible.’
Guilliman nodded solemnly. ‘Can I say nothing that will convince you to join us on our road? I have come to value the strength of you and your warriors greatly these past weeks.’
‘You cannot,’ Yvraine replied. ‘Already we have given you the gift of rebirth, not to mention a number of our peoples’ lives. Is that not enough?’
‘It is a debt I’m sure won’t be forgotten,’ said the Primarch. ‘Before you depart, tell me this. Cawl may have fashioned the armour that I wear, but it was not he alone who ensured my resurrection, was it?’
Yvraine smiled demurely. ‘His technology would have healed your physical wounds, Roboute, but you and I know that the worst damage had been done to your soul. So no, Primarch; it is by the grace of Ynnead that you stand once more amongst the living. If you wish to remain, however, I would caution you against removing your war-plate. Not that you could easily do so.’

A flicker passed across Guilliman’s features at this, a faint ghost of pain well hidden, swiftly replaced by a stony mask of duty.
‘I could press you for greater insights into the powers that brought me back, and assurances against any taint in their nature,’ said Guilliman, noting how the Ynnari stiffened their postures
at this. ‘But I suspect that our newfound understanding is of more value to my father’s realm than my own satisfaction. And that those answers would not come easily.’
Yvraine inclined her head, while the Visarch silently eased his hand away from the hilt of his blade.
‘Thus, instead, I shall simply wish you victory in your ongoing battles against our mutual foes.’
‘May you walk with fortune, Roboute Guilliman,’ said Yvraine. ‘And know that we shall stand together in battle again, before whatever end befalls us.’
The Visarch offered an elaborate warrior’s salute to Guilliman, who nodded curtly in return before the Eldar turned and swept gracefully from the chamber.
‘No doubt we will,’ murmured the Primarch thoughtfully, watching the enigmatic xenos withdraw. ‘As long as it serves your needs...’

>>
>>52131363

Not him, but despite being a "normie" myself (aka a corporate shill faggot in a suit) and spending a lot of time at the local GWs (there are two), I rarely if ever see other normies. Almost everyone is very obviously a nerd. I'm also a huge nerd, I just look like a normie externally.

Sometimes older people will come in to consider buying stuff for their kids, but every single time they ask Mr. Blackshirt "so what's this game cost?" and then cringe and leave when they hear, "the starter set is $100, it's a great deal, you really save on it"

I mean it's not entirely normalfag-free as a hobby but the majority are still obvious nerds (not fit, out of style hair and ill-fitting clothing, band shirt and vans, or scrub jeans, awkward posture, etc., and I do not mean that as an insult but rather as an obvious indicator that they're not normalfags)
>>
>>52131221
Honestly short of GW announcing the return of Andy Chambers I'll probably be quitting after 8th edition drops unless it's a massive improvement in terms of fluff AND crunch.

The fuck are you on about? GW has never been known for award winning writing.
It's not like GW's only staffing it's teams with demographics that would make a betamale pr tumblrina cream themself.

The people who work there still play 40k, as shown by the many series in WD, on the community site and on twitch.
40k isn't just played by white guys. Who gives a shit about the color or gender of GW writers. If they produce quality stuff (they aren't, and that's the real issue) then they can be whatever background they want for all I care.

I'm not denying that they're far, far better written. But as someone who lived through 3rd-4th edition and had to deal with Chamber's constant barrage of C'TAN DID IT/NECRONS ARE BEHIND EVERYTHING, if he'd been allowed to have his way with the setting, things would have been just as fucked up as they are now.
>>
>>52131543
I honestly don't understand why people are freaking out. GW would never just make "space marines, but better" the dex without some kind of gimmick a la GK or DW, it's more than likely just an update to the design that they're going to roll out for tacticals with the overhauled rules of 8E and some new fluff, it'll be Mk. 8 armour.

There's a big difference between "award-winning" and "what the fuck is this 50 shades of grey tier shit", and the stuff we used to have is a far, far cry from the garbage that's coming out now.

The soul of 40k left with Chambers, Priestley and Haines and we've all been desperately strung along by a bunch of fucking suits ever since, craving that original high while they pass off their cheap imitation drug that we just can't get away from.
>>
Help me 40k general.

Due to a some stuff at work, I came into a bit extra cash. got the check today, and it's quite a bit more than I expected, guess my client was happy with their repersentation.

Why are Manticores so fuckin' expensive in points? I get that they can drop a ton of wounds at high S, but they're super unpredictable to the point of completely missing your intended target half the time even if you do roll all three blasts, and their AP is solidly 'meh'. 170 points is just a painful amount, they should be more like 130.

They (and Hellhounds) are too much in real-world price too, but that's even less likely to change anytime soon.
>>
>>52131610

Precisely. They'll be bigged up in the fluff as Guilliman and Cawl's new vanguard, have a pretty cool sculpt and maybe be a bit closer to proper scale like the new Deathwatch minis, maybe the kit will come with some new interesting special weapons, but I don't see them replacing Marines as the poster boy faction.
>>
>>52131571
Chambers only ever subtly (back in the day when someone in GW understood what the word subtle meant) hinted at things like that.

Larger than current just follows the trend of a steady increase in size towards truescale without invalidating old bitz. Hastings is saying that there're bigger bolters and a more advanced power armour, and maybe some vague addition of Guilliman's fresh gene seed. Hastings hasn't said shit about a new super marine codex.
>>
>>52131730
>So Cawl is making better space marines then the emperor could make?

A. Nobody knows what the project actually is. Some people are saying NU-MARINES, but all they have to go on is a quite-possibly-converted-space-marine al la >>52131725 and are claiming it's the gospel truth Kinda like Tzeentch Daemonkin, remember that one?, so it's a series of coin-flips on whether or not that's actually correct (which it likely is not, at least in its entirety).

B. If he WERE making new marines, only time would tell whether or not they'd actually be better. Remember that a shit-load of "improved technologies" in 40K have a habit of going full Event Horizon and getting corrupted (Such as 90% of the Chaos Fleet, Dreadclaw Drop Pods, etc).

>>
>>52131706
Anon, Hastings himself has said that Marines are not going to get new stuff in the near future, this coupled with this new Marine kit which looks to be a whole new line will probably mean that yes these new kits WILL take the spotlight during 8th same way Stormcasts did for Empire.

Hastings is always right and now we even get a picture to confirm new Marines, which look to be incompatible with "old" Marines as they are the size of a Terminator.

>>
>>52131830

I own several armies - most at a competitive level including Space Marines, Tau, and KDK.

The problems I'm running into are A) the D-Scythes are getting to shoot twice thanks to soul burst. So unless I spread WAAAAY out he's going to delete two units at a bare minimum. B) One of those two units of Reavers I can't overwatch.

I've played tight games but his double soul burst every fucking time is unreal. I don't want to stop playing him or be a dick because he is my actual friend, I just want to beat his stupid list.

The closest I've gotten is Skyhammering him but the problem is as soon as I kill one unit with anything he starts soul bursting all over creation.

Space Marines and Grey Knights being listed as "Adeptus Astrates" in Gathering Storm instead of Imperium or anything of the likes is a pretty big indicator to me that the new ones will be a separate "Adeptus ???" Faction to them.

They never used the term Adeptus Astrates when talking about rules that concern Space Marines and others of their kind, only in fluff. Listing both Grey Knights and Ultramarines under one name really makes it seem like they'll make Adeptus Astrates, Adeptus Custodes and the new Adeptus into their own things.
>>
>>52131829
>Might be playing a Tau list soon.

Never a good start

>Guy usually brings a single Stormsurge

You're fucked

See here's the thing. Getting in his face is a good idea, and if he doesn't have much AT, you should get across in those battlewagons. But what are you going to do once you get there? All you have is Boyz, and Boyz are godawful. Tankbustas are for shootin', not assault, and they can't do that much at range anyway, not against a GC with a 4++ save and FNP.

Replacing the Boyz with something that can assault, like Meganobz, might work, depending on how many Crisis Suits he brings, if any. MANZ don't like Melta-guns. On the other hand, his list as described sounds like something MANZ could really bully, so that might be worth a shot.

Lobbas are always good, but especially so against T3 armies like Tau. Kannons I'm less sold on, but they're still T7 cheap missile launchers I suppose. Biggest issue you'll face is his transports shooting around; even Fire Warriors can take out Mek Gunz in assault.

I'm not aiming to do anything to the SS other than tie it up with one of those blobs of boys and keep it there for the game. I've aimed to kill it before and all it's done is tie all my mobility up trying to grind the thing down.

He rarely takes suits at all and even with the devilfish he's still generally fairly static so basically I'm just aiming to swamp his line with boys turn 2. I almost never run lists with many boyz now but I feel like numbers will help in a turn 2 charge of 5 squads.

The tankbustas are there to counter any crisis suits he brings or a riptide. Kannons will also rape crisis suits.

They're both pretty good, but the second list has psykers. If you add some psykers to the first list, maybe an Inquisitor or the 3 librarian formation in place of the infiltrators or one of your vanguard squads, you might be able to make up for some of that deficiency, or maybe you don't give a shit about psykers and want more firepower. Honestly though it depends what you want to field and how you play. Adding a sea of daemons doesn't help you that much with your bodies problem as they're likely to get mowed down in a couple turns anyway.

Space Marine models make up literally half of GW's revenue. One of the big selling points of Marines is that all the kits are compatible with each other. GW just released a brand new kit of mk. 3 armor, fully compatible with the rest of the SM line.

Even GW is not retarded enough to piss off half their income by totally invalidating their purchases. The new marines are almost certainly just a new armor mark, which will be fully compatible with older marines. The new marine is the same size as the Deathwatch marines as shown in >>52131725. Basically, because Europe and the US reacted to the Drunk Driving problems in very different ways.

In the US, before the drinking age was raised to 21, drunk driving deaths were ridiculously high among young people, to the point where many people considered it a near-epidemic. This was especially a problem in rural and semi-rural areas where "not driving" to and from work/school/social events simply was not an option, and young people were dying statistically at least once a day to it at an absolute minimum, and in many rural states the rate was far higher.

So, because "not driving" simply was not an option (as most high schools in rural areas either drove or rode with a friend to school, because bus services often didn't exist and parents work) they tried raising the drinking age universally across a state to see what happened. Drunk driving deaths shot down exponentially, and once Congress enacted it across the country the results spread across the country. Since getting highway funding is only possible by keeping the drinking age 21, it's still done today, and to be honest that's probably a good thing given how common cars are and how "having a car" is an extremely crucial milestone of many regional/class cultures, especially among males (who are also the worst drunks).

Europeans largely went the opposite route - as cars were not nearly as crucial for the everyday person, the regulations on driving and vehicle ownership was raised, on account of it being viewed more as a "privilege" than as a "right" as it is in the US. Combine this with the general geography of Europe being (generally) not conducive to high-speed driving compared to the US, and the fact that Europeans simply have fewer distances to drive, plus the rampant alcoholism in most European cultures, it was the more logical alternative to temperance and achieved similar results.

TL;DR Europeans and Americans solved the same problem differently.

Yes, one choice from the box consists of a selection of one of the following units. You may not select a Techmarine and an AM Command Squad as a single HQ choice. You may, however, make two selections of one of those units.

To make it simpler, imagine the list is a menu. It states:
>You must select two orders of appetizers, and four courses.
>An appetizer is any one of the following:
>Salad
>Fries
>Hors d'oervre
>Shrimp cocktail

You could obviously selected two orders of fries. Or two orders of salad. Or fries and salad. Right?

It's not even a matter of grammatical incorrectness, as is often the issue with GW rules. You are simply misinterpreting it intentionally. It is in fact extremely clear and can only properly be interpreted in one way.

Obviously, you could order two

My friend has tried to get me interested in playing again with the new kill team ruleset, so I'm trying to decide on an army and am leaning towards Sisters of Battle since I played mostly them in Dawn of War. Am I neutering myself by choosing them? Everything I've found points to them being not really supported very much anymore.

Are Hellhounds and the variants as useful as I hope for Tank/Mech Guard? I think they could be helpful playing Maelstrom because I can move 12" and still shoot at full BS unlike with my Chimeras and Lemans, the only problem I have with them is point cost keeping me from wanting to take more than one.
>>
Can the Canoptek Spyder use the Fabricator claw and then shoot the Particle Beamer if its got one since it's a Monstrous Creature?
>>
>>52132226
The one created originally by the early writers of 40k who made it the setting it is, is correct.

GW of today is a company of impostors wearing the skin and using the name of the old GW.
>>
>>52133277
There's been varying rumors the last year or so about sisters getting more support but it's hard to say really.

Ogryns just really aren't that great a unit, their shooting his bad and they get greatly outclassed in close combat by other units.

>>52133284
Some people swear by them, others say they're worthless. Probably depends on who you're playing against, personally I've never found flame weapons that useful against armies with good armor saves. Could always try a game where you proxy chimeras as a hellhound/devildog/banewolf to try them out.
>>
Doing up my Dangles I was happy with the shoulder emblem when I had the grey undercoat, then went to out on the white.

Life is pain.
>>
>>52133277

Ogryns are expensive and don't really do very much. They're not killy and whilst they have reasonable survivability, that's not really useful without being able to kill stuff. Players can and will just ignore them.

Hellhound is good if you know you're fighting a horde army that hides using cover. It also ruins the day for pretty much every DE player. It's usually wounding on a 2+ which can force a ton of saves.

Yeah as an Ork player, Hellhounds are the bane of my existence. Doesn't help that unless you're familiar with the kits, they also looks quite similar to a Chimera.

>Have Battlewagon full of Tankbustas
>Opponent drives what I think is a Chimera right up beside it
>"What's that Chimera doing?"
>"That's a Hellhound
>...."Oh".

Similar to my Deldar

Nice Venom you have there, would be a shame if you got 6 wounds on 5 models in there. Also penned my Venom and exploded it.
>>
>>52133350
Wouldn't you just be better off using a Wyvern in that case? You're not wounding on 2+s but you get barrage, shred, twin linked, still ignore cover, and it's about half the cost per-model.

A wyvern is usually better, but you do get the advantage of no escape with a hellhound. So if you fight armies with open topped transports it can be at least useful, if overpriced.
>>
>>52133449
You're right about the Wyvern it's pretty much better in every case. The only nice part is it doesn't take up a HS slot.

It's mostly for the satisfaction of burning enemies.
>>
>>52133449
The strength and no need to worry about BS on a fast vehicle is nice.
I ashed a squad of pathefinders and an attendant develfish with one shot from it.
I'm just not getting that fun out of a wyvern.

I dunno, I find a certain satisfaction when I roll 50 to wound dice. But to each his own.

Thanks for the fast replies, I'll give it a few trial games on TTS with my friend sometime to see if it helps with objective play and compliment my existing Wyvern. In the meantime I should see about making my last on sprue Chimera able to switch between being a transport and a Hellhound.

Is there a list builder for Adepta Sororitas?

well there are 2 list builders in the op, and I know that at least one of them has them, how about you go look again.

But all the armies are balanced.

Unles you are a cheese Tau/Eldar fag, or play underpowered shit such as DEldar, Sisters, Orks and Nids.
>>

>But all the armies are balanced.
Yeah say it to Orks, Nids and another nonTau, nonEldar, nonSM armies
>>
>>52134068
Even Sisters and Deldar aren't that bad off now. Outside of maximum cheese lists, everything is hitting that middle level.

As long as the top-tier armies avoid formations and their stereotypical OP crap, everyone save Nids and Orks is on a relatively even playing field. If you avoid Spam lists it gets better.

What do AM competitive armies look like these days? Anyone have a good list or some links? Preferably not spam cheese, but a good fluff to it (FAAC here)
>>
>>52134208
>competitive
>not spam cheese

Choose one.
>>
>>52134208
IIRC guard comp armies are pretty much just a bunch of bodies and artillery, maybe with a few vets in chimeras to cap objectives. They're not really a competitive army atm.
>>
>>52134236
>>52134250
Then what is a good army, specifically vs Necrons, Skitarii and Orks.
>>
>>52134258
Orks are a pretty low tier army right now so AM would be fine, Skitarii depends on if they're running a War Convocation or not. Necrons I'm not sure since I don't really hear a lot about them. desu if you want a good army right now it's kind of hard to avoid cheese. Tbh if you have people running orks you may as well play AM if you like them unless you're more concerned about winning than playing what you like.
>>
>>52134258
Take an emperors wrath artillery company with basilisks, then back it up with a cad full of infantry, wyverns and leman russ.
>>
>>52134258

AM is fairly middling low tier currently. They'll put up a decent fight against all those lists. One major exception; if the Necron player goes with a Decurion list, the balance swings drastically in their favour.

Skitarii by themselves aren't a huge threat, so it should be pretty balanced between them and Guard. I'd imagine Guard artillery would be very nasty against an army that is almost all T3. Assuming it's actually Skitarii + Ad Mech, that's a different matter. That will probably outclass Guard. Definitely if a War Convocation.

Orks are straight up garbage, and do poorly against everyone. A min-maxed Ork list should give a Guard list a good game.
>>
>>52134357
Unless the cron player is spamming wraiths, guard do pretty well against them even with the decurion.
>>
>>52134390

And that's a damn big "unless".
>>
>>52134357
Tbh with Skitarii it depends on if they get to go first or not and how much cover is on the board. Arc Rifles have a surprisingly large threat bubble against vehicles on turn one between a 24" range, a 6" scout move, and another 6" move. If the AM goes first though they can easily wipe while squads using blasts provided your scatter rolls aren't complete ass.

>>
>>52134411
Don't put lascannons in with the regular squads, you're forcing yourself to either make a squad fire at a vehicle and waste most of their shots or shoot at a target the lasguns can damage and waste the lascannon shot. Just take them in Heavy Weapon squads.
>>
>>52134408
Even then you can put up a decent showing with enough conscripts and artillery. The trouble is that you'll have to table crons to win because you won't have the power to push through them to objectives.
>>
>>52131505
They do it all the time.
>>
>>52134442

I know my Orks struggle to deal with Wraiths at the best of times. I just can't think of anything Guard have that can really put the hurt on them. Pask in a Punisher I guess? It's just so damn easy to get them into melee and once they're there they just. don't. die.
>>
>>52134451
You just drop as much firepower as you can into them and then bog them down in conscripts.

Basillisks are solid vs Crons and skiitari as their AP'll go through armour and double Toughness cripples resurrection protocols and FNP.

Leman russ battlecannons do so too.

Wyverns are also great for pure wound saturation though mainly they rape orks.
