Tan half-elves are the most widespread race, because in prehistoric times white human tribes sacked and conqured an ancient black elf empire. Over time, the two races interbred and slowly went extinct. The tan half-elves call themselves Erpin.

Orcs come from a far off continent via long-ships. They raid once every decade. Half-orcs are majority the result of rape and are seen as less than human. Countries could band together to fight off the clockwork threat but no leader has ever been able to bring them together.

The Orc's home continent is harsh, cold, and inhospitable. They raid the continent to capture slaves to do hard labor farming, mining, and lumbering instead of themselves.

Orc society is very martial, meritocratic, and brutal, with few of the social niceties of the more civilized races. Due to the harsh conditions and a desire to ensure their children are strong enough to survive and prosper, Orc females aren't willing to mate with any but the strongest Orc males, and they don't mind sharing with other Orc females.

Usually only the strongest, most cunning, and influential Orc males are allowed to mate with Orc females, and they'll gather a harem of potentially as many as a dozen mates, becoming father of an entire tribe. It is taboo to mate with another Orc of the same tribe.

The Orc male to female ratio is 1:1, meaning that competition to gather mates is extremely heavy, and the bottom 90% of Orc males aren't able to mate with other Orc females, necessitating raids on the main continent, to capture slaves to satisfy themselves, and treasure to impress Orc females.

The southeastern Erpin live in a loosely united, somewhat Liberterian agrarian culture, ruled by a council of petty monarchs, elders, and particularly insightful peasants.

The world is actually a CONE

Dwarfs were the first to discover magic, and Wizards are fairly common in their culture and taught like any other common trade. Magic amongst the other races is very rare and the common folk view it with suspicion and fear. Non-Dwarf wizards are usually seen as mentally unstable recluses and those who would seek them out in hopes of learning their secrets are viewed as evil or suicidal. Possibly both.

Gnomes (known by their own name, the Ju-kuku Ma'kua), occupy the tropical regions of this world. There faith is primarily shamanistic, worshipping the oceans due to the lack of a single landmass in their home. They have a feirce warrior culture, prefering naturally formed weapons of wood, stone and bone. They 'bake' there dead, until nothing remains. Stone weapons that have been baked with their late owner are beleived to possess their "Mahna" or life energy. Giving them a life of their own.

The human capital of the world is built into a giant, immortal tree. It is known as Fort Tyrucus.

I like this idea, but there aren't any humans in the setting, just chocolate half-elves. Also, that would mean that all the world's humans are united under one civilization and culture, which seems unrealistic.

This thread is fun and I would totally read a book where all of these ideas were mashed together somehow.
