They don't really work. A good example of what I mean is Ordion's cyoas, he released Hell Invasion version 3 I think it was? A week ago, it was reposted about half a dozen times so far and was only responded and discussed for two threads before interest in the cyoa died out completely.

Ordion updates his WIPs frequently, he gives feedback frequently, and his choices for the most part have implications and consequences and most importantly he interacts with the thread. By all your stated criteria his cyoas should be more popular and most frequently discussed well past the two thread debut.

This is nothing new really, its actually a ongoing trend. SDA's battlemage update at the end of last year only hogged the spotlight for about 5-6 threads, it lasted that long because SDA was making a companion page of all the player builds that have piqued his interest and so you generated alot of discussion and memes, but once the project was over, interest in battlemage died down considerably with maybe the occasional build being posted here and there over the 3 months of this year.

And there was Italic's sought after Pokemon Personified update which got no replies and no builds at all, but alot of sporadic meme discussion from the few "hardcore" fans. And the New World, Order and Spire cyoa updates before that which again was replied to, played and discussed heavily for 3-4 threads before activity died down and the occasional discussion of those cyoas' lore carried on by the more invested fans.

The Gallery cyoas is a fantastic way of generating interaction and replies on the short term, but once all the images are collected and the descriptions written up and the blind picks posted, /cyoag/'s interest in one gallery cyoa just dies completely.You literally have to make gallery after gallery cyoa to keep /cyoag/'s undivided attention and that is impossible.

That's because Ordion's cyoa are extremely derivative from video games, burrowing lore and background setting from popular RPGs. FPSs and RTSs and basing gameplay mechanics almost solely on FPSs and MOBAs.

Even his more unique fantasy and power fantasy cyoas don't really stray too far from his general formula of races, classes, abilities, equipment and companions.

You can count the amount of "longevity" CYOAs on one hand. The only ones I can recall for living for so long are Power Armour, Domain Master, Magic Realm and Overlord. Other ones like my Battlemage or Star Dust lived so long because their development processes were long and I spent a lot of time garnering feedback from people.

/tg/ is stock full of people who want to be special snowflakes. As far as I'm concerned, if you tickle that fancy, you can get something that'll last long, but good luck doing something that the above hasn't done yet. In terms of lewd CYOAs, easy-to-grasp concepts play very well but don't really give much to discuss.

I was surprised that ArchDemon/ArchAngel Roommate got a lot of attention for the work effort involved and the concepts involved in the CYOA. I wouldn't really consider them as "long-lived" CYOAs but something about them certainly had staying power, and I strongly believe it's in the mixture of powertripping and a setting you could easily embed yourself into while still providing content for discussion. What I was happy with was when people asked questions about world building and lore--I believe these really contributed to their "longevity" even though I didn't think very far into these concepts. I think the way it was presented, people felt like they understood how the power got placed into their lap with the brief descriptions I provided instead of it simply being "you're now a god." I had a narrative spoken by a character to give you more context about the situation, for example. Something to do with it not being a disembodied voice maybe helped give more emotional comfort.

I'm taking shots in the dark but truthfully, I dislike pandering to the special snowflake crowd. Unfortunately, from any angle you view it, that seems to play a big part of the staying power of a CYOA. I still hope to explore concepts that can forgo this, but that's all I have to formulate about it.

I like the concept of this Gifted One CYOA, but the execution feels really clunky and the wording is very awkward on a lot of the options. Also, the vagueness about powers is just a little unappealing. For example, I can make crystals with the Mystic: Crystal element and then turn them into... stuff. Depending on my skill. What kind of stuff? Lumps of uranium? Guns? Planets? Puppies?

Maybe I'm just really tired and missing some important information but there seem to be a few issues that ought to be fixed, and there could certainly be some better balancing/reworking/explaining of powers.

Can't think of a name for it, but considering the stacked Ignore Armor, I'll probably pick something edgy like 'bone crusher'.

Tried to make the weapon the best for one on one encounters with armoured men. e.g. knights and the like. Hopefully the large amount of ignore armour coupled with the extra damage during the day should allow me to beat down the majority of opponents quickly.

Wearing lighter or even no armour myself would probably help the most too. Generally fucked against archers though.

They help me test the waters to see if the direction I'm going is okay or not. At the very least, I would receive a mild consensus on the concepts I show and that helps me refine further.
