Every now and then, usually caused by someone accidentally tripping over an interaction they hadn't thought of.
>>
>>52091873
I had a game last week where we had a bit of trouble over Eye of the Storm, though the guy who played it had to leave early so the fun got cut short. We were putting a bunch of free spells on it to like Pacts to cut each other off and try to wrestle control of the stack, it was a good time.

I want to get in on the superfriends action, but I can't do it without red and blue. Should I go Grixis or RUG? Green has better walker support but black has great wraths and fun walkers like Bolas and Ral Zarek. Bant is probably the best tricolor for walkers but eh.

Also post your favorite walkers.
>>
>>52092059

>Superfriends without Doubling Season

Complete suicide.
>>
>>52092011
So, Epic does two things. It sets up a new rule that you can't cast spells anymore, and it creates a delayed "copy this spell except without Epic" trigger during each of your upkeeps from now on. If you were to cast an Epic spell and copy it before it resolves, that copy ALSO has Epic, so it would ALSO create the delayed trigger.

So if I cast Eternal Dominion, hold priority, and Twincast it, I get two "Search target opponent's library for an artifact/creature/enchantment/land and put it onto the battlefield under your control" triggers every upkeep.
>>
>>52092011
>>52092019
its actually quite simple. If you copy the spell before the spell resolves you can have as many copies of the spell and its epic trigger on the stack.

Epic only prevents you from casting more spells, after the first epic spell resolves, you still have epic spells on the stack, and they can resolve as normal.

During your next upkeep you will get an individual epic trigger for each epic spell that resolved.

It is one of my win conditions with Riku. Cast Eternal dominion, copy with riku, and then copy it with twincast or whatever.
>>
>>52092072
I know I know, but I want to try anyway.
Also I want to try to put one chandra in there, is there one that isn't terrible?

>>
>>52092505
Just add cards like Twilight's Call and Living Death, and you will be good to go.
>>
>>52092505
For sure. A pal of mine has a Tazri deck and we hate it because you basically have to wrath the board every few turns or keep throwing removal at him or he'll just continue going "I play a 2-drop. You all lose 8 life, I gain 8 life, I draw 8 cards, I make 8 mana, I do 8 damage, these creatures get +16/+0", etc.

It's not unbeatable, but it's like fighting roaches. You keep them dead or you die.
>>
>>52092467
I know, but the small part of me that's a Spike wants it to at least be good and consistent, and not total jank.

Also my wallet weeps at the idea of a solid 5-color mana base
>>
I'm pretty new to commander, so I'm not sure what things are generally considered dick moves for a "casual" commander setting. Basically, I want to make a Jhoira deck because playing timmy tribal sounds fun and she's my waifu but I'm not entirely sure if just seeing her and knowing that the fatties and board wipes are coming will make people just quit playing.
>>
>>52092776
Depends on how you build her. If it's "ramp into Eldrazi Titans and boardwipes," you'll likely get laser-beam hated, but if it's just mondo fatties like sea monsters and dragons, you'll catch some hate but not as much.
>>
>>52092776
Jhoira gets a lot of heat because of "Suspend fat, Apocalypse, GG?" is a very common, very nasty play for her. IF your playgroup comes in with a bias you'll have to distinct your deck as not being the cutthroat monstrosity she's known to provide via pain and loss. Or you could own it and build to take the instant game of impromptu Archenemy but that's probably less fun.
>>
>>52092776
It depends on the wipes and the fatties. If you're cheating out Rimefeather Owl and Bogardan Hellkite after wiping the board with Blasphemous Act, nobody will hate you off the board unless you're playing with turboscrubs.

If you have Kozilek and Ulamog coming out off the back of an Obliterate, you will get hated off the board.

The point of shuffling your deck is not to evenly distribute your lands, it's to randomize your deck.

"Big clump of lands halfway down the deck" is a possible outcome of a proper randomization.

Out of curiosity what do you want red for?

How do you feel about Intet or Maelstrom?
>>
>>52092874
Listen to smart >>52092961. Clumping is a natural, if undesirable outcome.

Specifically, your deck is supposed to be in a random order at the start of the game. The definition of this is that you should not be able to know where in a deck any given card is or how they're distributed. If you can reasonably expect your mana to NOT be clumped, it's just as poorly shuffled as if you can have a true and reasonable expectation of it being clumped. The only difference is that schemes to induce the first scenario, being in your favor, can be called cheating.

"The deck is arranged by type, then in alphabetical order" doesn't look like a random arrangement of cards, but it is exactly as likely as any other precise order. Are you likely to see it? Heck no. If you did shuffle and cut to that, would it be "not random"? Heck no.

In general, you are playing the averages: with a well-built deck and good mulligan strategy you should, more often than not, end up with a playable start. It won't be every time and you certainly aren't mulligan-proof. The Random can always happen to screw you today, but over enough games (and this will be a fairly large number, probably a couple hundred openings to get a meaningful sample) you can start to talk about expectations. Not in any given game.
>>
>>52092994
The singular game I played against some people from the group they were using the red samurai girl for a samurai tribal, some esper commander that tapped to fog a creature, and Depala dwarves with no vehicles just dwarves. The tribals played some random jank commons every other turn and the esper guy literally sat there trying to broker alliances by offering to fog shit.

That doesn't change the argument that you can't just swap it with something else. We're taking about one of the most expensive archetypes in commander on a per-card basis. A deck running JTMS, Doubling season, mana crypt and an expensive mana base. If you can afford all that you can most likely afford seal. If you can't afford seal you've already most likely made cheaper slightly worse replacements of expensive cards and your critique of the list is moot.

>>
>>52093939
Yeah, Kaseto's good and even if it's just snake tribal featuring revered ancestor Seshiro, adding blue for Coiling Oracle, Mystic Snake and as many other draw/counter spells as you can pack in sounds pretty good.

Damia's also great, depends how you build it. Remember Exploration/Burgeoning to empty out extra lands and increase your draw power.

>>52093964
Lot of that looks like lands, you can easily cut it way down.

I think you can take off nearly 1000$ with the following changes:
It can be trimmed pretty easily and the cards that aren't these are usually commander staples anyways.
Force of will > foil
Pact of negation > disrupting Shoal
Boseiju, ancient tomb, tropical island, every fetch > simic taplands and basics
Grim monolith > worn powerstone
Ancestral Vision > another more expensive draw spell

I just want people to experience the value with me. I know not everyone can build decks the same.

>>52094206
That's in reference to a post about Jhoira. But yes, one mana cantrips are vital in Rashmi to ensure you have a spell to cast every single turn.

>a list,
its my friend's build
hes running about 35 lands
10 rocks
10 draw spells
10 spot removal
10 mass removal
3 or so search library for a card and exile
5 or so disruptive cards like trinisphere and Kismet, bottomless pit.

Armageddon is gross in the deck

then for the walkers he bunches them up a lot I think he runs every version of sorin except the set to 10 one
all the elspeths
almost every ajani as well
he kills his own PWs a lot with the legend rule and doesnt seem to mind doing it.

Obzedat's Aid does a lot of work.
all his creatures are either sac outlets, token producers or anthems.
wins most games through either smokestack, attacking with Hero of Bladehold or blood artist triggers.

its not exactly a competitive deck but its a hell of a lot of fun to play/play against. I'd say its on par with a lot of 75% decks maybe a little stronger.

well its kinda gimmicky but it can be built for under $100 bucks

its based on this deck from duels of the PWs 2013
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyYrweyCC3k
all basic lands
runs ruination
win con is big multicolored creatures copied multiple times
uses lots of charms

its my favorite deck, not a backbreaking deck but can hang in there with better non competitive decks like MLD zergo and sliver tribal.

>>
>>52094480
In theoryland, Jhoira should be able to suspend on t3 or 4 depending on what kind of mana rocks you got and Apocalypse the turn after, resetting the game to Turn 0 except everybody mulled to 4 with 0-1 land. And you've got a bouncing baby Annihilator Eldrazi on the way to make sure that anybody trying to recover... won't.

In practice, it seldom works out that cleanly, and you have to ramp as fuck or suspend the Obliterate/Decree first, followed by your favorite brand of nastiness. You shouldn't have to stall for the full four turns of clock, though: if you can't stop the table cold before T8, you're doing it wrong.

Jhoira's power is (fittingly or ironically) that playing with her is similar to firing off Karn's Ult: the game is reset to start, except you have the most destructive stuff you were able to squirrel away. And when Ulamog "Annihilator 4 and Exile or GTFO" exists to be that stuff it really doesn't matter if you have to take 4 turns per player to beat the table to death

It wasn't really that Primeval Titan was particularely strong that was the problem.

It was that the format was warped around Primeval Titan interaction.

Once one player played Primeval Titan, the rest of the game was based around reanimating or copying said primeval titan.

My U/R deck ran 6 clones just to copy Primeval Titans. Every single deck in the meta ran Bribery just to get Primeval Titan.

It was primeval titan, primeval titan, primeval titan, over and over again

I like decks that revolve heavily around the commander, but thats not necessary.

maybe even 50$+
>>
So I started brewing that shitty Snake deck with Damia, but I barely got anything out of dipping into black; basically no snakes, only a couple Naga, and a few Gorgons that probably aren't worth the inconsistency.

So I have this terrible UG Snake Mistake list now.

>300 or less that is finished?
IMO you can do any commander on a $300 budget. It won't be the most competitive form of some commanders but when you get down to it any multicolor commander has over $300 in mana base in their "most competitive form" and even monocolor can get there if they want to go full potato and run all valid fetches.

The amount of deck-thinning provided by a single fetchland in a 60 card format is almost nonexistent. It's even worse in Commander
>>

Since you seem to like off the beaten path commanders, I'd recommend either Darlnu, lich lord or Yisan the wandering bard

Lazav. Beyond land MAYBE a couple staples, make nothing for yourself -- every permanent is a copy or steal effect, and your spells are copy, steal, bounce, counter, or destroy.

Wizards decided to make a black mass calcify and because they can't have black have any fun they made it kill yourself while using it. Useful in Oloro or other pillowfort decks though.

To be fair, it predates Mass Calcify by, I believe, well over a decade.

I mean a copy spell deck is the best way to use it probably, but you could also use it in a stax or prison deck of some kind. It wouldn't be great but if your opponents are constrained on mana or cards in some way then you can likely beat them with just a super-bribery every turn

No, it is so statistically insignificant that the benefit of 1 additional point of life is mathematically proven to be superior.

People add fetches to their decks (in order of significance) to 1: Fill their graveyard, 2: Shuffle their library, 8305: deck thinning.

They DO provide thinning.

The problem is, in a normal Constructed game you need to crack something like 6 fetches and play at least 8 turns before the thinning is statistically relevant enough to EXIST.

>>
>>52100184
It's insanely powerful defensively because it foils trample and enables you to trade up.

It's tactical but situational on the offense because while it will restrict your ability to get damage through it will also let you "bodyguard" important pieces. Think of any fragile creature that needs to attack to do its thing, from Sidisi to Alesha to Kaalia. Band it with some junk (Baton is great for this) and the engine is now Immune... well, mostly immune to combat damage.

The rules aren't super hard, but a lot of newer players will spaz out the first time you wield it against them because it seems like the "attack as team" effect should be the more powerful one (since that's the 'band') when really it's the absolute control over damage distribution.
>>
>>52101104
>Did Nissa vs. Ob Nix reveal anything
It revealed amazing art for Crop Rotation. Not every single Duel Deck includes cards from the upcoming set, but this one should based on the pattern the others have set. Actually surprising that neither face card is an Ahmonkhet preview, but this one might buck the pattern the others had. It's also five bucks more than previous ones.
