I'm creating a new deck, as with all my decks, they are named something political.

Sylvala, explore return stax combo-
>fox news, fair and balanced

Nath of the guilt leaf stax-
>TSA, just put it in the bin

And my newest saksia aggro-
>the Republican party

So this begs question who will lead my new idea the oval office deck with some current magic card representing trump. So this begs the question who should it be. The only qualifier is that either lore wise Or effect wise they are parallel. Color is not a concern, ironically

The Reserved List was first published on 4 March 1996, as a response to the protests against *Chronicles* and *Fourth Edition*.

During the years, the Reserved List is changed. The last and the worst revision was in 2010: if this had not happened, probably today we would have seen Masterpieces dual lands!

I know that there is a lot of hype for Modern Master 2017, but I want to remember to all players that, at least until today, the Reserved List is the unresolved mistake.

I hope we will see snow or legendary dual lands before it's too late.

Really, you just need to include some walls after that. Maybe Extort effects. Blind Obedience is basically always a good card.

I understand.

Sakura-Tribe Elder is duplicated in your list, also given the number of critters in your list have you considered Selvala's Stampede or Elvish Piper?
>>
What are your preferred game sizes?

I'd say 4 is my ideal number of players. I'll take 5, but I really don't wanna go above that, and I prefer just playing 1v1 over playing 3 players.
>>
>>52061781
4 is also my ideal, though I don't mind playing 1v1 or 3 player. I've discovered that games that are more than 5 people are just suicide, especially since a couple people around here are enamored with "lmao game warping group hug/chaos" at the moment ...
6+ just leads to long grindy games where you have to wait a half hour between your turn 3 and turn 4, let alone 5 to 6. Drives me nuts but sometimes those are the only games being played so I'm stuck in them.
Stuff like that is probably also why I can't stand slow play or chaos effects at the moment.
>>
>>52061775
Elvish Piper is a trap and you know it
>>
>>52061781
4 is perfect in every way. 3 is pretty good too. I don't really like 1v1 and more than 4 just takes way too long.
>>
>>52061844
Yeah. 4 players hits the sweet spot of multiplayer for me, but 6 or more just takes too fucking long and it's way more likely that shit gets turned tits-up by one guy whose board you can't even see.

3 players is non-ideal for me because it almost always devolves into 2v1 by turn 4.
>>
>>52061775
thanks, i forgot to add the expertise, so when i saw 100 i thought i was done. evlish piper is hard to find, but ill consider the stampede.
>>
>>52061781
3 is shit.
4 become teams or massive feel bad.
5 is a clusterfuck.
6 is the patrician choice.
>>
>>52061887
What about 6 makes it less of a clusterfuck than 5, in your opinion? I've always found 6 player games to be on the wrong side of 'clusterfuck', rather than 5, but I'd like to hear your input on the matter.

>>52062542
But why? What's the point?
>>
>>52062542
And what do you do if they ask you about a different team? Or about a specific player other than the one you know about?

This is the equivalent of 'learning' about Magic so you can have a conversation like this:

"Hey anon, did you hear about how Jon Finkel went 8-2 at the last GP? You know, I thought it was pretty cool how Mardu Vehicles has been Doing Well. But that wasn't half of it, I can't believe Fetches in Modern Masters! Okay, have a good one man, go Unban Jace."
>>
>>52062565
To avoid 80's style man drama and relate to otherwise awkward people with comfortable small talk in forced situations. But, this anon has it:

>>52062474

They wouldn't be nerds if they cared about any of that.
>>
>>52061781
4-6 is good

4 is a nice number to have real interactions without zillion hour games
5 is pretty similar but lets you play, say, Star setups (or any similar variant where the players at the table represent a full cycle be it mono, allied, enemy, arc, or wedge)
6 Is hilarious and unwieldy and takes forever but you still know what's going on at least.

The more players, the more on the ball they need to be.
>>
>>52062600
Which is a perfectly fine interaction of you're stuck somewhere with a mouth breathing neckbeard and need to make small talk for 5 minutes, particularly in a casual professional setting.

If you're up to the point where you've researched a specific-era team, their star player, and their rival for small talk, it's no longer small talk. You're actually a sports fan.
>>
>>52062747
Really? Fair enough, I guess you're right. I was looking at it like that episode of the IT crowd where you're in a bar and forced to interact with real men, but anyone that autistic would already like sports at that point.

Does this stop shocklands? I'm no judge, but I know your technically paying a cost for it to not enter the Battlefield tapped. so that sounds kind of fun like an activate ability to me.
>>
>>52064169
It's difficult to have straight translations of that, since Shadowverse is digital and can easily create copies of cards with the copies having the characteristics of just a regular card. Since you have to keep track of the physical card in Magic, copies can't be treated as cards and just disappear when leaving the battlefield. There's certainly cards that are difficult to get rid of like Aetherling or Phytotitan (which is probably coming closest to Mordecai). But you can't pull stuff like Urd combos, which is half the fun of playing with Mort.
>>
>>52064294
I don't know why I typed "fun" in the middle of a sentence like that. Whoops
>>
>>52064294
An activated ability is always formatted in the Oracle text as cost:effect. Without the colon it isn't an activated ability.

A triggered ability is formatted with the words when, whenever.

Shock lands are triggered.
>>
>>52064169
There are some cards with self recursion (see: any phoenix), but there is no card that says "If you have a sacrifice outlet, you win the game", no.
>>
>>52064342
>Shock lands are triggered.
Nope. Not that either. The shock land clause is a repacement effect (note the "as ~ enters the battlefield") and as such can not be reacted to in any way, since it doesn't go on the stack.

>>
>>52064342
Nope. Triggers will be "When", "Whenever", or "At", three words completely absent from shocklands.

Shocklands have a REPLACEMENT effect that modifies the way they enter the battlefield. It does not use the stack and cannot be responded to.

Chronozoa splits when its lifespan is up

Epochrasite disappears for a couple turns when it does then comes back in its stronger form.

Reassembling Skeleton can be called back from your graveyard arbitrarily. Mortus strider will come back to your hand whenever it dies, which goes infinite with Aluren.

Haakon, Stromgald Scourge lets you play knights from your GY freely but doesn't work like you want him to as a Commander, sadly (You CAN do it, but it's a lot of work for what will probably top out as Nameless Inversion spam)

Advanced Stitchwing and a number of other Innistrad zombies can get back up at cost, but they're usually tougher than Reassembling Skeleton

Bloodghast returns whenever you drop a land.

Coffin Puppets return at the cost of two lands

Anything with Persist comes back a little weaker. Only once unless shenanigains. Ditto Undying but they get stronger instead.

Anything with the "Unearth" ability can come back for exactly one turn.

http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Search/Default.aspx?name=+[%22dies,%20create%22]||type=+[%22dies,%20create%22]||subtype=+[%22dies,%20create%22]||text=+[%22dies,%20create%22]

with special consideration to Mitotic Slime, Reef Worm, and the eggs.

Nothing perfectly like what you want, but sacrifice outlets being what they are it's easy to see why. Your best options are Mortus Strider+Aluren or (Persist Creature)+Melira, Sylvok Outcast. The latter is actually a fairly potent combo for instant winning.

Stax/pillowfort
>>
>>52064773
>>52064793

>Voltron
You need to be able to generate X1W each turn where X is equal to the number of blockers you must bypass. Run lots of equipment because white enchantments will fall off when he protects himself.

>Pillow Fort
Just run fort cards. Ghostly Prison, Sphere of Safety, Crawlspace, etc.

>Stax
Stax doesn't give two shits who commands it most of the time. Build a white Stax deck: Things that crap out resources (especially permanents) for you and things that eat everyone's resources (Sac, tax, tap)

>Voltron/Stax
Don't go full potato "Durr 8.5 tails plus mana and equips", run a fat equip stack and a decent Stax package. Sram was already good for Voltron he is now essential.

>Fort/Stax
Neither of these packages takes up a whole deck, so just combine them

>Fort/Voltron
Getting indestructible on 8.5 tails is actually kind of important here. Then wrath the board whenever something looks at you funny. Alternatively, have a repeatable murder-by-damage source and pay 2W to exempt 8.5 tails from it, but that's kind of hard in monowhite, I can't think of any artifact that'll do the job.
>>
>>52064793
I'm pretty sure he's regarded as one of the best voltron commanders.
>>
>>52065097
In what universe? You're limited to strictly Equipment because any Auras you use would fall off if you use the ability, and while he has reactionary protection re: removal, his 'evasion' costs a fuck-million if there's more than one blocker and he doesn't scale with damage.

Rafiq is miles better as a Voltron commander.

>>
>>52065661
Probably one of the Precon commanders, or some of the less complicated 2-color commanders. I would not suggest monocolor, as any new player will quickly become frustrated as they are limited by the color they are stuck in. Two colors at least allow a little hedging of weaknesses, and I would suggest that one of those colors is green to aid in dipping the player's toes in the water.

>I just fold over when a spell is cast that could win the game

Counterspells may be a case of the feel-bads, but there has been way too many times I've dropped a counterspell on a Comet Storm dealing 200 damage on each player, and watched the entire table breathe a sigh of relief. Removal, counterspells, and everything else under the interaction banner help to keep the game fun. It's not just about who can flip their fatties and combos onto the field the fastest, but who plays the smartest. Call it a meme, but that shit makes games better.

Or you may just be baiting me, in which case fuck off.
>>
>>52066175
>everything I don't like is non-interactive but us epic blue mages keep everyone safe
Are you sure you aren't the one baiting me, because you sure are acting like it.
>>
>>52066249
Well actually, I'm not tryin to bait you. I actually don't even play blue right - I play mostly Gruul, my current lineup is G/R Wort, Thelon, and Ulrich. I've built maybe 5 blue decks out of the 40-50 I've blazed through.

But I still understand the value of a counterspell, or anything that interacts with how your opponents play. That could be removal, counterspells, stax, blockers, whatever. It's just another axis of the theme.

I'm not trying to cause issues here, but you gotta admit these things are necessary.
>>
>>52066249
So "I instantly win because nobody has disruption" is fine to you?

"Craterhoof, I win because none of you have counters or kill spells or fogs."

"Prossh, I win because none of you have counterspells."

"Niv Mizzet + Curiosity, I win because none of you have counters or kill spells or Disenchants"

What is your ideal EDH, just casting Craw Wurm variants until someone has enough to alpha strike the board?

Counterspells are interaction. Period.

technically maybe, but I've played against too much counterspell tribal to consider counterspells interesting/interactive.

instant speed removal has an opportunity cost, in the case of "your doomblade can't kill my black creature, if you had drawn murder instead you could have done something". Counterspells are just a boring catchall and turn every meta into a blue one or one with explicit "can't be countered" text.

>>52066562
which is precisely why its un-fun.
I never said that it was particularly good, just that it makes everyone try to shoehorn blue into their deck so that they aren't the person being singled out by the counters.

I'm not saying you shouldn't run a couple counterspells in your deck if you're in the colors, just that thinking that counterspells are always a good thing to have is just as silly as thinking that all you need in your deck are threats.

mono-blue is "that-guy" bait in my experience.

>>
>>52066709
Hard Control/Stax is just massive griefing. The people that play these decks are the people that have self-esteem issues or are incredibly boring individuals that feel the need to define themselves by their hobbies. They read that all the "hardcore" players play blue and spam counterspells, so they chortle to themselves and pull out the credit card in a misguided attempt to finally be good at something.

>>52066829
Step one:

Do not give a tupenny fuck what your color choice says about you. Don't avoid green because it's "the timmy color", don't avoid blue because it's for elitists, etc.

Build what you think is fun. Genuinely fun- the kind of deck that doesn't make people stare daggers at you, that doesn't have you sighing as you browse your phone for 40 minutes because you were the first one out. The kind that people REMEMBER- "Hey, do you have your ______ deck with you?". The kind that lends itself to games you joke about two years later.

It's a game, friend. And games are supposed to be fun.

The removal I was talking about wasn't restricted to creature.

The point I was trying to make is that even in the situations where counterspells don't catch all, they still catch more than their off color removal contemporaries while being competitively costed.

I shouldn't bitch about counterspell design because if they were all one mana more nobody would play them, but I've always liked playing colors other than blue and it's almost jealousy at this point.

They also give you a far narrower window in which to use them. I can Doom Blade a creature anytime (barring my opponent using something else to give it some sort of protection), but I have to Remove Soul it the moment it's cast. I can't go back and drop Remove Soul a turn later because I was tapped out. That's what you trade off- counterspells can stop a wider range of things, in a much narrower window.

Alright guys, I'm brewing to make this guy not shit. Current idea is to have little to no artifacts or enchantments and run hate for both, with ample symmetric land destruction (Everyone sacs five lands, that sorta thing). To compensate, I'm running every conceivable ramp spell. 2 Artifact wipes, 1 enchantment wipe, 1 for both.

In testing, I've found it does a pretty good job of keeping threats off the board and symmetric land destruction isn't as frowned upon as non-symmetric, but I notice I don't have much of a board presence besides lands and am pretty defenseless on the early stages. Card draw is an issue too. My question is, how would YOU build this man to be competitive while building to gruul's flavour of non-creature/combo/artifact hate? If you really want to be competitive I think that a creature toolbox approach is probably best for that commander, stuff like fauna shaman or survival of the fittest (although that can get pricey) and birthing pod to search out creatures that have situational effects.

-Red is Memelords, sure some are bro-tier but fuck if every Norin player doesn't think they're god's gift to man.
-White is Hipsters
-Black is people who want to tryhard without looking like a blue player

Combos:
-Rakdos is full of masochists
-Selesnya...I really have no comments. They're just kind of there.
-Azorius is fun police, seriously never seen a player running Azorius who didn't suck the fun out of everything.
-Dimir is someone trying to make mill work or be unique, always feel sorry for them
-Boros is either bullshit godhands that get outta hand, or doing nothing the entire game until they hit Kiki/Conscripts
-Gruul is dumb people swinging sideways
-Simic is tryhards that pretend they're not trying hard at all
-Izzet is the "LOLSORANDUMB" garbage players (with the exception of Mizzix players, who are just dickheads who whine when you don't let their commander stick)
-Golgari will whine for years when you play gravehate despite them literally throat fucking you with value otherwise
-Orzhov is combo or boredom and stalling

Hey folks, been playing for about 2 years within a small group of friends. We typically meet up at a friends house, drink, play a couple 3 player casual/commander games and shoot the shit. I've yet to actually go to any game shop and play because I like the casual style of my little group, but I've been contemplating going. So i'm just wondering how exactly it all works? do I just show up and ask some people if they want to play? i use to play yugioh when i was a kid and we would just duel whoever was around the game shop so i figure the same would apply for magic right? And what's the process for a tournament?
>>
>>52069924
Walk in, ask an employee if they have any EDH currently going on, and if not, what night typically they have people coming around and playing EDH. Everything from there on out is simply asking "hey, need another guy?" and melding into the group.
>>
>>52069573
dumb question but is there a card that makes all of your permanents artifacts? or at least something that could turn all your creatures into artifact creatures?
>>
>>52069825
I meant building a tuned slobad. Karn's fun, but I already have most of the red artifact staples. I'm just not sure what to use with him.
>>
>>52069998
Liquimetal Coating is good for spot-artifacting
Mycosynth Lattice is what you're looking for otherwise.
>>
>>52070003
>mycosynth
>$25
Nope.
>>
>>52070024
It's fucking busted with the right build around it (or even a slightly correct build). It's also exactly what you're looking for, so there it is.
>>
>>52070024
It was 8$ before breya no joke
>>
>>52070073
Except that's wrong, it went up $3-4 on Breya's reveal, but I distinctly remember buying one at $22 last May. Maybe it was lower when Daretti was released, but it's definitely been climbing consistently every year (much like Rings of Brighthearth and a few other artifact staples like Blightsteel Colossus)
>>
>>52070073
>>52070149
And even factchecking myself here now, you can grab a Mycosynth Lattice for about $22 right now still.
>>
>>52070024
Then don't ask.
>>
>>52070149
I haven't been playing for too long, but to my memory, it doubled several times just between around C16 and now:
>>
>>52070193
Just fact checked myself, I'm wrong. It was around 14$ around the time I'm remembering.

You've already corrected yourself, but here's some neat research.

Notable Spikes:
>6 Up to 10
Between Gatecrash and Dragons Maze (March / April 2013)
>10 Up to 15
Between Born of the Gods and Journey into Nyx (March / April 2014)
Commander 2014 is Released November 2014, With Daretti included
>15 Up to 20
Between Khans and FRF (Dec 2014/Jan 2015)
Commander 2016 is released November 2016, with Breya Included
>20 up to 30
Aether Revolt (January 2017) . Starting to rapidly decrease now that speculation for the set died down.
It's also noteworthy that every single time a new set released, Mycosynth temporarily leaped for like a week or two.

So you were right - about 4 years ago, Mycosynth was unbelievably low, at almost $6. Then it began to spike mostly around the times where artifact-strong sets were being released (Mostly commander, although I cannot for the life of me figure out why the spike between Gatecrash and DGM happened).

Based around symmetrical draw effects. I don't really care what the win con is, but I want lots of draw for everybody.
>>
>>52071003
>>52070911
It isn't necessarily symmetrical because some decks profit from draw more than others.
Generally speaking, non-interactive win-conditions will have an advantage over interactive win-conditions.
For example, a voltron player will still have to attack X amount of times to win, regardless of how many cards are in their hand.
However, a degenerate combo player can usually combo off as soon as they have the necessary pieces in their hand, which is greatly accelerated by extra card draw.

If I were to make a monobrown ramp deck, using any one colour as a "base", what should I pick? I have a full suite of rocks and a bunch of eldrazi titans/blightsteel/praetors in basically every colour, what would be the most fun? Red seems like a pretty cool guy, because it has all that spicy expensive tech like Warstorm Surge but I know Blue is clearly the best card draw choice, and green is clearly the best shit-out-lands choice.
>>
>>52072591
>using one color as a base

Wastes exist now my fine colorless friend
>>
>>52072591
Blue is the strongest. You get tutors and cards that actually interact with artifacts. Black and white give you combo pieces, removal and tutors. Green is redundant because artifacts hardly need colored ramp while red only really has any use if you're going the MLD route.
>>
>>52072602
Yes, but why would I build a deck with wastes when I can splash another colour for all their spicy tech?

I've got a dimir reanimator deck and I've got a question:

Is it worth splashing white for the 8-ish decent reanimation targets and reanimation spells in that color?

What's the best commander for reanimator in Esper?

Aside from that, what kind of cards should I look for to make myself more resilient in multiplayer when 3 people are shitting on me for being a dirty graveyard player? I tend to ramp, then loot, and then reanimate and by the time I reanimate I'll already be at 20 life or something

thanks in advance friends

That's literally the same as regular reanimator and no one says you have to use Sharuum to reanimate artifacts.

On that note the white reanimator spells suck ass so don't use them, only worry about removal in white.

Why would you reanimate Sen Triplets though? Also she's an artifact so you can't do that.

Lady Evangela is surprisingly trolly.

Ertai the Corrupted is fair for reanimation since you can bring back what you sac if you're doing value recursion.

Halfdane if you want to recur a retarded big critter, since then you've got retarded big on commander damage.

If you splash white you also gain access to some of the best pillowfort in the game. Also, Sharuum is indeed your best bet, especially if you do a lot of self-milling (although you will receive a lot of hate).

If the hate is too big a problem try Oloro instead (although people tend to get salty when you don't actually build around him and never cast him).

You could try halfdane too if you reanimate a big creature and go for commander damage instead via blue unblockable shenanigans.

>>If the hate is too big a problem try Oloro instead (although people tend to get salty when you don't actually build around him and never cast him).

the cool thing about oloro is that i could probably put him on the helm of my current dimir deck and he would still bring in more value from the command zone alone than my current commander lmfao
