Chaos. Pure Chaos. No other legion has remained as unified, nor as strong as the Word Bearers in the time after the heresy. No other legion has given themselves wholly to Chaos, either. What's interesting is that the Word Bearers treat lesser Daemons as beneath themselves, and even forcefully bind and oppress them.

He's technically right. Black Legion is a successor to the shattering of the Sons of Horus and an influx of anyone willing to take the black.
The World Eaters, Night Lords, Emperor's Children, and Alpha Legion are all shattered into numerous autonomous warbands.
Cases could be made for Iron Warriors, Death Guard, and Thousand Sons being far more unified, but they're so much smaller.
Word Bearers are unified (though there is tremendous tension between the camps of Kor Phaeron and Erebus) across the galaxy.
The thing that makes them so truly dangerous is that the Word Bearers are incredibly ordered and disciplined in their approach to worship.

Next realize that there are formations that consist of certain models that count as a single force org

Then cry as people make armies of nothing but riptides, wraith knights and windriders

>My dudes are an Emperor's Children warband; they still use the traditional, pre-heresy colors of the III Legio Astartes, as well as preferring smoother lines and Imperial symbols--all the better to make a mockery of their foes.

This is literally my exact plan if I ever get around to making an EC army. I presume that it's because either A) you already have an EC HH army and want to use it in both games or B) the new scheme is fucking ugly and FW is far superior. Or both.

You don't need to use the "Allied Detachment" to take allies. If you bring a formation with a different faction to your main force, then they're just counted as allies too.

So faggots use the Riptide Wing (three squads of Riptides, no tax units, and they get formation rules that BUFF them) as allies to their main force to add layers of cheese.

Magnus looks dumb. Would be better if his skin was red and the rainbow shit was only on his wings and armor, would give better contrast that would make him easier on the eye, instead the whole model just melts into itself. I play Eldar and my list is pretty stereotypical in how awful it is at this point. I'm running double Reborn Warhosts - 4 units of Scatbikes, 2 big units of reavers, webway d-scythes, a wraithknight, the whole thing.

That's a good idea actually. Playing ultra competitively is draining, and is more of a headache than it's worth. I'd suggest picking up a sub-optimal army you like the lore or aesthetics of and just try to have fun with it. Maybe even try narrative campaigns or something if you have people you can do it with

In a super competitive meta it might be hard, but it's something to consider if you don't want to end up like one of those sweaty guys who turn every rule dispute into a fight
>>
>>52053015
They aren't the best at assault due to a lack of TH/SS, but you can give them all chainfists and also make the sarge useful, unlike a normal Termie squad. They are better than claw Assault Termies if given claws, too.

They are shit at shooting due to combi-bolters over stormbolters and a lack of access to Terminators' only decent shooting weapons. If you take them at all, gear them for assault. but they NEED a transport even more than regular Termies.

>implying you'll get any powers off when every other psyker oriented army makes GK look like babby's first warp channeling

So, let's assume 1850 for the list. 245 for Draigo, 240 for Voldus, and 350 give or take for a kitted out Paladin Squad. So we're running 1000 so far. Let's add 2 kitted Dreadknights just to make sure our opponent thinks we're cheesing when really they're really one of the best tools in our children's book of a codex. 225 with Teleporter, Psycannon, Incinerator and Sword, 215 with no sword. So that's 450 max. Ok, 1450 now, Need a mandatory troop, so either 165 for 5 plain Termies, or put on a helmet and for 110 you take a Strike Squad. Assume you ditch the helmet and go with more Termies. 1615. Boost that to 205 if you kit them out like I do: Falchions on Justicar, 1 hammer, 3 Halberds and a Psycannon.1660. Oh fuck, we sure as hell lack the ability to table an opponent, we might gimp them hard if we roll well, but 0% chance of tabling them with such low unit numbers. Let's add an interceptor squad for objectives. 130 base. That leaves us with a few points to fuck around with for Mastercrafting weapons/melta bombs/digital weapons.

So, 7 Model Death Star, 2 MC's, and 2 5 Man units. 19 models. If somehow you manage to botch the rolls like I do on a regular basis, that's a prime recipe for a turn 3 concede.
>>
>>52053009

I've just gotten tired with it. 'Competitive' 40k (which I know elicits its own reactions) is such a slog these days, too many books, sources, etc. My list (which is fairly light) still requires 3 books to play.

I don't really like the SM aesthetic sans MAYBE Exorcists.

Orks have never done much for me but I like Mega Armored Nobz alot.

>>52053080

the originally inhabitants that had those traits were exterminated by the Word Bearers to hide any sign of what occurred there. Cadia was settled as an empty world according to Imperial records.

>It's super solid when you have LD10 psykers and use it to pop the heads off Grav marines
Oh shit how did I miss it being focussed? That answers that.
So how many dice do you throw to get it on target reliably? Like 3?
>>
>>52053372
The "Modern" cadians had a resurgence of the violet eyes trait within just a handful of generations of recolonizing the planet. Having Violet Eyes is an extremely common benign mutation for ANY planet that's sufficiently close to the eye of terror.

In fact I wouldn't be surprised if most of the Dark Angels had violet eyes given how close their fortress monastery is to the eye of terror.
>>
>>52053379

Usually - Most of the time I'll spirit stone it on one of my 2 farseers - depends on how many dice I have left. I tend to have around 10-11 dice so I try to keep 5 for it (when applicable). But yeah it being focused actually means you can clutch out with it.

The fluff for my sisters is actually based on old battles with friends back in 4th edition and how I lost the ability to run my jump canoness with the 5th WD update.

They are from the Order of the Martyr's Shroud, a minor order that broke off from the Argent Shroud after their leader Martyred herself in battle against a mighty Tyrant. Her sacrifice allowed several holy relics to be recovered following a Tyranid invasion of the shrine world they were guarding. Once the relic were claimed, her Seraphim honor guard recovered the body, refusing to let the tryanids recycle her. Ultimately, the world was lost to the massive fleet, but most of the planets holy relics were recovered.

It was later discovered that their canoness has sustained several mortal wounds during her fight, which had soaked and stained her robes red with blood. Each blow was enough to strike a mortal man dead, and yet she kept fighting until all the relics were recovered. She was declared a saint, and the Marty's Shroud, the blood soaked robes of the once living saint, were passed on to her successor, and are said to offer the same protection. Each sister who fought that day traded in their white vestments for red in honor of their fallen leader.

No, there's no evidence towards Blood Ravens being first founding, nor is there evidence for the games being canon.

Silver Skulls are 2nd founding, as they were made from UM split during the founding, with rumoured IW stock.

Carcharodons Astra actually are first founding due to them being split before the Heresy, being the Pale Nomads, the exiled Terrans of the Raven Guard.

>>
>>52053255
>They don't get to throw equal dice
Explain? As far as I know they can throw as many as they fucking want, and if my main objective is to get invisibility off, they can sure as hell throw 8+ dice to make sure it gets denied.

When you get a rough average of 12-13 Warp charge dice total after the bonus D6 and have to spend at least 4(I usually end up throwing 6) to pray you get at least 2 4+'s for invisibility(because the only way to get harnessing on a 3+ is to run a 2000+ point formation or Lib Conclave, and my main aim is to make a pure GK or mostly pure GK/Inq army that won't get insta-tabled.) and then another one or 2 4+'s to give yourself a cushion in case the opponent rolls a few 6's it just makes it even more frustrating when you end up getting shitcanned.

>>52053273
It's not that I subscribe to determinism or whatever, but saying that you have an X amount of odds to make Y happen doesn't mean shit because dice and physics don't care how many tests you've botched, the chance will remain the same, and if you mess up 20 in a row before making 1, you may as well consider a 100% chance or 0% chance until you find out the result even though statistics says it'll happen every X amount of times on average.

OK "friend", first founding is the creation of the legions therefore there cant a first founding chapter regardless of their origin. Loyalists get literally everything in the Horus Heresy, bar the primarchs. Nearly all of their rules are in either Imperial Armour 2(for Loyalists), and Imperial Armour 13(for traitors). And the loyalists also get stuff from the various .pdfs up on forgeworld's website.

> Contemptors
> Sicarans
> Deimos Predators
> Typhon Heavy Siege Tank
> Fellblade(Only the basic variant)
> Whirlwind Scorpius
> Vindicator Laser Destroyer

And for loyalist only
> Legacies of Glory
> Deredeo
> Leviathan
> Chaplain Dreadnought
> two more land raider variants

Chaos only
> Lol, just Legacies of Ruin
> Everything else is fair game though

The biggest difference between the two is that the loyalists have to deal with something called "Relic of the Armoury". Which is an in-built balancing rule which says you can only have a single "relic vehicle" in your entire army, unless you take an army-specific tax.. Which is a Techmarine(LSM), Rune Priest(SW), Interrogator Chaplain(DA), and Sanguinary Priest(BA).

Personally, in casual games I let the chaos players bring their Leviathan so long as they just follow the rule of "Just limit it to one, unless you also bring a warpsmith"

I play Imperial Guard. My dudes are from a prison world that uses penal legions and they are often sent on dangerous missions because they are more expendable.

My fluff is loose, and my commander/prison warden is a count as Straken. He believes every man has his use, even if it's just taking a bullet for a better man. He has heavily augmented his body so he could fight better against the horrors of the universe. He also inspires everyone by punching monstrous creatures and tanks to death. While the prisoners know they are just fodder and meatshields, they frequently get caught up in the moment of the commander's frontline bravado.

I frequently take Straken, Priests, Infantry Squad blobs, Conscript blobs, Bullgryn, Commissars, Psykers, Basilisks, Lemans, Armored Sentinels and Vets with shotguns and carapace. I don't really think everything out, but I like to think that the Vets with shotguns are riot guards, the Armored Sentinels are patrol walkers, the Bullgryn are entrance/exit guards, the Conscripts are prisoners and all the rest is a mix of planetary defense forces, prison guards, normal recruited Guardsmen and sometimes released criminals.

I wish my modeling skills were better, but I just painted Catachans with orange fatigues.

I think the expectation that you buy a book for your army and then the core rules is totally reasonable.

Shit gets crazy when there's 4 expansions for the core rules, dozens and dozens of dataslates (sold separately, or published in individual white dwarf books), armies like AdMech that are split between two codexes with additional shit in a third codex and then random shit for each army scattered throughout things like fall of cadia.

It's utter fucking cancer and it contributes to a game climate where nobody knows what the rules are.

Why use Castellans if nothing is assaulting? You're better off using an IG CAD+ Emperor's Wrath+Librarius Conclave.

I run a group of World Eaters that are led by a man named Andrax Gorespitter who thinks he was a pre-heresy Captain. Unfortunately for him he is one of the clones the WEs started pumping out midway though the Horus Heresy after the real Andrax died during the Drop Site Massacre, but he's killed anyone who's tried to tell him that. (The clones often ended up with their source materials memories for some reason) The thing that makes him different though is at some point when they were giving him the Nails they fucked up, the effect being that he now feels pleasure both in combat and when planning for combat. Because of this they still use the pre-heresy color scheme as they keep their armor cleaned in between battles. His ability to plan also means that he can actually use tactics in battle, for at least a short period of time.

I call the warband the Butchers of Truth as they both take joy in killing psykers and because they killed everyone on the Shrine World of Truth.

In response to the 13th Black Crusade they've left the eastern Halo Stars where they've been raiding from and have been doing hit and run attacks on Imperial supply depots well burning towards the Eye of Terror in the hope that Angron will appear and lead another Cholercaust level Blood Crusade.

Those aren't clones anon. Clones are a specially taboo thing in 40k lore, as they have no soul. Those are just vat grown people, which, whilst sounding similar, are not the same, as they're usually fertilized embryos with their growth sped up. Most cherubs and some servitors are made this way.

Tau didn't exist when that little theme came about. And even if they did, there's nothing really for the tyranids to gain from using their genetic code.

Humans but weaker and frailer isn't really a good draw card.
>>
>>52054678
Very much so, the original idea was that the units were the xenomorphed versions of the other races via bio traits learned from consuming them.

Space Marines became Tyrant Guard
Eldar became Zoanthropes
Orks became Biovores

I forget if the warriors were supposed to be human or not.
>>
>>52054678
Yeah, I read my old white dwarfs on the toilet and I just recently read the one where Jes Goodwin talks about how the range was supposed to appear to be the Tyranids changing with the newly absorbed DNA from our galaxy. That was Orks, Zoanthropes were Eldar and Tyrant Guard were Space Marines.

>clones
Clones aren't really a thing in 40k. It's one of the ultimate taboos alongside creating AI.
>Khornates stereotypically being unable to think coherently
This is a meme, as this only applies to Khornate Berzerkers. Heck, Bloodletters are surprisingly intelligent, and even make use of trickery and deceit if it means killing someone. The Harvest Daemonkin warband cast themselves as defenders and takers of fortresses. Why come to the enemy when they come to you? After all, Khorne cares not how the blood flows, so long that it does.

His vessel, the Frigid Lash, was on course to raid a world of the mon'keigh, weaving through an asteroid belt orbiting near the world to avoid detection on the approach. What they did not count on was the presence of a Chaos-infested mining station on an asteroid they passed dangerously close to. A salvo of boarding torpedos and emplaced cannons left the Lash reeling, and though Cynric was gravely wounded and much of his crew was slain, he counted it a blessing that no spirit stones were allowed to be taken by the Great Enemy.

He returned to his ancestral home on Craftworld Lugganath, renounced his corsair 'path', and took up the path of the witch as his injuries healed. He learned the ways of the spiritseer, communicating with his fallen comrades. They cried for vengeance, for a chance to fight the Great Enemy once more - but on their terms. More startling than that were the visions. Distant calls echoed in his ears through the warp, his brethren trapped in their spirit stones, begging for some fate beyond their prison.

Once Cynric attained the heights of the Farseer, he petitioned the seer council to aid him in rescuing the lost stones of their kin. But he was told the strands of fate did not call for such action yet, and to bide his time. But it was not for Cynric to wait. He repaired the Frigid Lash, called upon his old crew to return to his command, and installed the fallen into wraith forms to once again follow him into the stars. Next to him stood his cousin, Baron Cedric, once more - no longer a proud and haughty corsair but a silent wraithlord, responding to the mental urgings of his kin with the methodical slowness of the grave.

The forces of Chaos would feel the wrath of Cynric once more, and the fallen Eldar would be rescued from their graves across the galaxy.

I still need to finish building 5 more Players for my Troupe, 2 Skyweavers, and a Starweaver. Then, have them all painted by the 18th of this month.

Yea thanks geedubs for now making Roboute's preferred enemy not work against Renegades and Heretics, Tyrant's Legion, literally any 30k army(assuming you're willing to play someone's 30k army), or even Dark Angels.

If they just left it as "Preferred Enemy (Chaos)", this wouldn't be a problem. Remember gentlemen that more rules isn't always a good thing.

>>
>>52055668
They don't have to, the point is that they created unecessary problems both in the present, and in the future, but rigidly defining things that don't need to be. This is EXACTLY the same problem that created Smashfucker Prime, and it's exactly the same problem that means guilliman doesn't get preferred enemy against Renegades and Heretics.

What if geedubs were to release a new chaos faction? Like say Slaanesh Daemonkin? Guilliman wouldn't get his preferred enemy against it.

If all it said was Preferred Enemy (Chaos), no further definition needed. Everyone would immediately assume that hey, if you worship chaos, he gets preferred enemy against you.

Same deal with Preferred Enemy (Space Marines). No further definition needed, it applies so long as you're a space marine. Chaos(although not needed) or loyalist, dogfuckers or vampires. If it's a space marine, preferred enemy applies.

yes monstrous creature (character) but victrix guard formation allow all units (victrix guard) him to get Look Out, Sir rolls. So while he might not be able Guilliman to join a unit, he can basically function like he’s part of one.

victrix guard: cato sicarius/calgar, honor guards, termis, Sternguard and vanguard Veterans.

victrix guard is not same that victrix strike force detachament.

I suppose 500pts is a good place to start, even if I don't have my ACs yet. There's a league at a store I've not been to yet that just started. This is their second month, and they're up to 750. The good news is that my raptors are troops, and I might be able to fit a lord with some termies at 500. Moving to 750 is a little easier, though I'll probably need a rhino. I have a Dreadclaw but no rhinos. That's the situation I'm in right now.

The Victrix Guard (not is victrix strike force)
Captain Sicarius
1 unit of Honour Guard
4 units of Sternguard of Vanguard Veterans
No unit from this formation may take a dedicated transport or begin the battle embarked in a transport.
Fight like Demigods: Add 1 to the WS and BS for all models in this Formation.
The Primarch's Chosen: While a unit in this formation is within 3" of Guilliman, he can make Look Out Sir rolls as if he was part of this unit.
>>
>>52055667

Fallen have ALWAYS been Chosen. Go look up the current Cypher formation. It's literally a bunch of chosen.
>>
"It was one of these legendary battle stations that was given as gift by the Despoiler to Huron Blackheart in the wake of his rebellion against the Imperium. Such a kingly offering not only bought the loyalty of the Red Corsairs for Abbadon's great galactic endeavor, but also demonstrated the sheer incredible might of the Despoiler. After all, a warlord who could afford to give away even one such preeminent weapons must be supremely confident in their own power."

> Not just letting you run any captain.
Fuck right off with this bullshit, literally the worst captain. I don't even play ultramarines and I can already say that this shit isn't going to fly. Nobody wants to run that character, and there had better be a fucking option to just take a vanilla captain who will then get pimped out with PROPER gear.

Although BS5 Sternguard Vets and WS6 Chapter Champions is hella nice. Their lack of transports is equally shite.
>>
>>52055933
Running him is fine in a drop pod gladius for the +1 to reserve rolls, but that ability is largely pointless in the no transport formation and his other buff isn't worth the points by itself.
>>
>>52055933
cato from fluff perspective is the master of the guard in addition to the captain of the second company and other titles.

It is logical that cato commands the victrix guard.

Marneus Calgar, is now the regent of macragge and ordered by Guilliman to stay there to care Ultramer sector in his absence.
;)
>>
>>52056044
It's still complete bullshit. The actual fluff would be that Roboute gets fucking pissed when he finds out the bullshit Cato Sicarius has done, and applies the FISTING into that smug little shit's face.

Then replace Cato Sicarius with literally anyone more qualified. Like the entirety of the chain of captains that isn't Cato Sicarius, because even the 10th captain is more competent than him.

- After a short rest of "book" releases, in the next cycle of books, Abaddon will receive miniature, in fact this one made before that of Guilliman model. Guilliman model is the "good reflection" of Abaddon new model. Abbadon will be accompanied by a new "demon" model and a new sorcerer model.

40k rules have never been elegant. GW doesn't playtest enough (or at all), so every rules release is basically just them throwing spaghetti at a dartboard and seeing what sticks.

The only issue with all these supplement is that a lot of the base codexes need fixing before they get supplements, and that the balance is shot all to hell.

Here we get the same info, also the new 40k edition and the release of a "new wargame" that will share the same rules of the neo40k. They are practically based on a new interaction of rules seen in AoS + general handbook, but slightly more complex.
Maybe something is shown in Adepticon and both will be presented during the warhammer fest.
