Bodacious Space Pirates, a surprisingly good show about hereditary Letters of Marque, piracy, insurance fraud, and turning highschool girls to lives of crime.

Space combat has a big focus on electronic warfare to disable your enemy. Its doesn't matter how much ammo you have left if your opponent locks you out of your own life support systems.

Horses can't blush, hold their mouth in that expression or look behind them like that. If a horse ants to look behind them they have to crane their neck around at like a 90 degree angle and stare you straight on with a sideways eye like "the fuck you doing?"

0/10, you have failed at horse

Everything is consensual. The people they "rob" literally pay to be robbed, because the setting is shit

This comes up exactly once in the entire series, and yet its praised to hell and back over it.

The show has a great concept, but wastes every bit of potential it has on yet another "cute girls do cute things" time waster.

If that hammerhead frigate had enough thrust to push 2 star destroyers worth of mass against their will in a direction of its choice, its has more than enough thrust to just punch clean through both of them like a cannonball through a couple of middleschoolers.

Also, bigger ships have bigger thrusters than smaller ships do, so even a single star destroyer should be able to push back and with the pushing race.
>>
>>52053018

I'm not the best at physics, but lets say the first star destroyer was disabled.
Assuming the captain of the ramming ship planned for this to happen, ie take out 2 with one plan, would it not make sense to ram the ship, then up your thrusters? As well, the mass of the destroyer is huge, so its momentum when crashing into the other would necessarily be much larger than its relative speed would indicate.

You bring up a good point though, if you have that much thrust you could just punch through the destroyer, but maybe only your bow is set up for ramming and you'd fuck up the rest of your ship by going through.

The joke is that fem-cap knows that Zeus was a womanizer. It's a trick, because Marvel Herc hates his dad. In the vey next panel he admits that his Dad would be proud of him, then realizes how much he'd hate that.

Dude we are doing our best on the space front but we got people who need to explore shit RIGHT NOW and space is too far in the future. It's not about the danger, though that is a factor, it's that you gotta go see shit that nobody else has seen. >Calling any faster wouldn't have saved his life,
Except the guy would have lived if one of the rope's attachment points hadn't come out of the wall.
>>
>>52055547

Well, in old canon they had the Eclipse super star destroyer that had a laser that could "merely" crack the crust of a planet, effectively destroying it.

They also had the tried and true "base delta zero" where a bunch of destroyers would just pelt the planet with standard turbolasers until the inhabited regions were gone. The name of the maneuver might no longer be canon, but the idea of just pounding things to oblivion with conventional weapons survived the transition.

However, neither of these methods have the propaganda power of outright blowing up a planet, which was sort of the point of the Death Star. It was less about efficiently blowing shit up and more about using the terror it would inspire to keep everyone under control. "We cracked a planet open" and "we shot a planet a lot" just don't have the ring of "we vaporized a planet."

Even in new canon, the empire has plenty of ways of killing a whole planet in a more subdued manner. They literally gassed all the Genosians to death except one, because writers are terrified at actually killing off species and kept the galaxy from every finding out outside of a few rebels.
>>
>>52055734
Nah, they turned the cave system into his tomb.
>>
>>52055737
I think you're very unclear on what happened there.

He didn't wear a rope when he went in the cave initially, he was just climbing on his own.

The rescue crews rigged a rope and pulley system to relieve the tension on his body, and were using it to get him out. That's what failed, and it happened like 20 hours into the whole thing.
>>
>>52055737

And changing how soon they got there wouldn't have changed the relative strength of the rock face they secured the piton to, nor would it have necessarily changed the time the rescuers needed to get him out. Odds are same thing would have happened, it just would have happened a little sooner.

>>52055734

Fuck if I know.
>>
>>52055751

If the rescuers put the rope in, and the rescuers took x amount of time to get to him and x amount of time to get to the point they could get him out before the rope came out, and assuming the rescuers would have acted in the same manner and faced the same difficulties regardless of when they got there, then why does the rescuers arriving a little earlier make any difference? The relative time they would have spent with that rope in the wall would have been the same, the wall would have been the same, and the rope still would have pulled out. All relevant factors are unchanged, they just happen a little sooner.
>>
>>52055739
Granted.
But the idea that seeing more than 3 Star Destoryers in the sky might mean either a regular inspection or someone phoned in a Buster Call is pretty scary, too.

>>
>>52055791

I don't disagree, it's a lot more efficient to have roving laser squads to burn shit to the ground.

However, there's also the consideration that three star destroyers is normally way easier to destroy than one super space station (ignoring absurd design flaws that can only be exploited by the son of Skywalker). A giant, indestructible ball of death is way more terrifying than three destroyers that you know can be destroyed (again, it didn't play out according to plan).

Plus factor in the fact Palpatine is a grandiose motherfucker who had just finished laboring in secrecy for decades and can finally operate in the open, so he's going to go for the big statement instead of the more efficient, smaller series of statements.

Aaaand the fact that Star Wars isn't known for it's tactical or strategic logic. But I guess that was the point of your original post.
>>
Getting temporarily stuck when spelunking is not an uncommon or infrequent occurrence. Nor is it immediately life threatening. Assuming the man had known this, his innitial reaction was probably not "Oh shit i'm stuck i'm going to die, better call 911." It was probably more along the lines of "Well I've gotten hung up again, best wiggle a bit and try to get loose." A few hours later when he realised "Yeah no, this is a problem I'm fucked." Then he called emergency services.
>>
>>52055854

There's a certain joy to poking holes in these things, and for the most part it won't ruin your overall enjoyment if the work was good enough to begin with (reading the engineering nightmare analysis of these things is fun, but doesn't make me dislike the original work), and if it was really bad to start with then the MST3K effect kicks in and your only way to have fun is to make fun of it.

Physically that's worse.

The way to make that scene work is to have the first destroyer at full speed and lose control, not power.

Then the frigate would nudge it onto a collision course and a battleship sized engine would put a battleship sized hole into a battleship.

The way the scene is actually composited, somehow the frigate forced a ship two orders of magnitude larger hard enough laterally to break the other ship in two (With nothing but the force of a frigate sized engine)

The scene is visually impressive, but lacks consistency with real or in universe physics.

The hammerhead basically just pushes the disabled destroyer into the path of the functional one, the damage is caused by the functional ship's engines driving IT into the hulk.

Star Destroyer B is actually accidentally ramming Star Destroyer A because it was pushed into its path

Here's a camrip of the scene on youtube, I think the .webm might cut out a bit of context in favor of brevity.

It's still no good; The two ships are of equal mass, similar heading and speed (originally) and are not braced relative to each other.

A bounce would have been possible, as would taking the entire bridge off the craft (Star destroyers have damn shitty design for combat ships), but with the force of an admittedly powerful corvette, there would be significant, but superficial damage.

It's immediately obvious to me that the original storyboard was a direct rip of the star destroyer nosediving into the Death Star II and someone decided instead of making a less derivative composition, they would try to hide it in a larger spectacle.

Disclaimer: I don't dislike new Star Wars; It just occasionally disappoints me at how little thought they put into it: They may not play tyrant over the world like Lucas did, but they also don't know how to rule it.

Morale is a resource. If your workers lose their will, they cannot help anyone. Prayer is a cheap source of morale for religious people.

You can maintain a superiority complex all you wish, but if you wish to lead and support others, you must use their flaws to their benefit.

You don't have to believe to use belief.

they knew he was dead already. they were going to do everything they could to try to save him, but the reality of the situation was their companion was going to die. it's an accepted risk of the hobby that if you crawl into a hole and can't get yourself out, neither can your friends.

and something you should do when this happens is gather your wits in any way you can before you start making a situation work. while life threatening, erratic snap decisions can make things worse or endanger the rescuers, so taking a moment to confront the mortality of the situation is an acceptable use of time.

This has been happening in a lot of Disney's recent movies, and it's driving me fucking crazy. They'll introduce a problem, then immediately ass-pull a solution to the problem. There's no setup, no pacing, no structure, no fun "ah-hah!" moments for the audience, when an element mentioned earlier in the movie suddenly returns and resolves an otherwise-intractable problem. These films have completely forgotten how to wield Chekhov's Gun effectively, and it just makes every action scene feel empty and thoughtless.

There's a disturbing amount of art of 'strong female characters' getting bad and gory ends at the hands of men to put them back in their place as punishment for being strong.

Think I'm wrong? Go back and look at that bloodborne picture again. Notice how, in the final frame as as Maria is getting bloodily eviscerated, the artist drew her presenting her pussy to the viewer.

This is porn for someone.

yes

no

People like guro not because they're upset at strong females, but because they're fucked up people who like that shit in general. Power doesn't play into it at all.

Hell, the works of the world's most infamous guro-enthusiast (pic related) featured almost exclusively the suffering women of low or medium status, rather than misfortune befalling the powerful and high-status.

Personally I'm triggered by the fact that the first destroyer is gently pushed away, while the second explodes like a lego model dropped from the third floor.
Why doesn't the hammerhead cut through the SD with the initial impact if they're that flimsy?
AND WHY IS IT ROTATING INSTEAD OF ADVANCING SIDEWAYS? IS IT USING SOME KIND OF SPACE ANCHOR?
>>

There is a disturbing amount of that type of porn, but you're projecting if you think it's a byproduct of latent misogyny and not just some sort of creepy fetish.
>>
>>52058845
The superstructure of the upper decks isn't braced laterally, it's only got horizontal support. As the second destroyer hit the first on the upper decks, it got sheared clean off, but the bottom part doesn't crumple as easily because it's hull is absorbing the impact into the rest of the superstructure.

It's spinning because the SD has its centre of mass further back, so as force is being applied not to the centre of mass, rotational velocity is achieved.

Take a wooden stick plastic ruler, put it in a sink full of water, and push at it near the top along the surface of the water. You'll note the stick does not "advance sideways" but it rotates. The same principle applies to the star destroyer.

No, the last good Bond film was Skyfall.

Bonds have a habit of hanging around for at least one too many films. The exception being Lazenby who didn't read his character direction notes, and Dalton whose contract got caught up in the licensing kerfuffle of the late 80's and got shredded.

Literally every Roger Moore film post the Spy Who Loved Me, which, lets be clear here is probably the most quintessential bond film ever made, is campy awful to fullblown awful. Moonraker would have been closer to camp if it wasn't LITERALLY just the plot of the previous film reused but in space instead of under the sea.
It even has the same fucking lieutenant baddy in the form of Jaws.

Spectre was awful and uneccesary and a textbook example of why just because you've managed to get the rights back for something does NOT mean you have to IMMIEDIATELY make a film with them in. Unless that's some bullshit copyright law I'm unfamiliar with. Skyfall would have been the perfect film to end Craigs run with the character.
But, as always, no.

X-Statix is still one of my favourite mutant books that they did.
>>
>>52059016

That was one section at the end, the rest of that film was... well okay I'll grant you as the ending it should have been it was more of a crash landing that you walked away from.
Unlike Spectre which was a trainwreck that borrowed heavily from the Batman Vs Superman school of saying words to the camera rather than having conversations with people.

I'll grant the Craig films always seemed to be chasing the success of Casino Royale, I think the writers strike really hurt them a lot, and not just in Quantum of Boris, where we know for a fact that the Director and Daniel were literally writing the script up as they went along.

But that's true of ALL of the Bonds. Hell, only Sean's run has a positive Good - Bad Bond film ratio, and his run ended with You Only Live Twice, which is almost as cringeworthy as Live and Let Die is today.

Well, maybe Dalton, but come on, the guy only did two films.

Honestly, I just don't think Craig is up to par for the role of Bond. I mean, the last movie where I actually remember Craig playing well was... uh, one of the Tomb Raider movies, where he played the bad guy, if I recall correctly?
He lacks the essential Bond charm that every of his predecessors had.
I mean, Brosnan? Fucking A+, he pulled off the 007 absolutely superbly in almost every movie. So did Connery, etc. The others' performance I don't remember as much, but they were decent too.

Brosnan was stuck doing Bond films to a formula that they hadn't changed in between a 10 year hiatus.
Goldeneye was good, and given what it was bookended with I've always held that The World is Not Enough was actually pretty decent, even if calling the villainess Elektra was giving the game away a bit too much.

Craig was fine, since they were pitching his films as less suave, less assured, earlier in his career Bond. You can see him gradually getting better and closer to a more traditional interpretation as the films went on.

I've always given Dalton the most props, simply because of the immense job he had of clearing away all of the cheese and stupidity that Moores run with the role had left him with.
Hell, License to Kill might actually be one of the most off-formula Bond films we've ever had, and was all the stronger for it.

Man, 2014 was such a fucking magical time for our country. Even when everything went to shit, there still was hope for a change. And then, the history repeated itself and the same thing happened as it did after the Maidan of 2004 (Orange Revolution) - ten years before - crimelord oligarchs came to power, again, and everything returned to its stagnant state.
You know that Maidan of 2014 started because Yanukovich decided to halt the EU integration efforts in favor of Russia? Even now Ukranian politicians are stalling those very same efforts because they don't want to lose control over our country.
Fuck that noise.

Once again, to be fair, Star Wars has always done this.

>The shot necessary to blow up the Death Star is really difficult
>Turns out the Force, which, up until this point seemed to be just ESP/telepathy, can now be used telekinetically.

>Luke is going to die of these horrible wounds
>Good thing we have regen tanks and really simple prosthetic surgery

>Oh fuck; we're about to get killed by teddy bears!
>Good thing 3PO looks exactly like one of their gods and speaks their exact language.

I think the point is that she has a bad-ass intro, and some players might find her tough, but she gets absolutely poise-fucked, as any hit will stagger her. So three players fighting her at once just mashing attack will beat her with ease.
