>What is Exalted?
An epic high-flying role-playing game about reborn god-heroes in a world that turned on them.
Start here: http://theonyxpath.com/category/worlds/exalted/

>That sounds cool, how can I get into it?
Read the 3e core book (link below). For mechanics of the old edition, play this tutorial: http://mengtzu.github.io/exalted/sakuya.html
. It’ll get you familiar with most of the mechanics.

>Gosh that was fun. How do I find a group?
Roll20 and the Game Finder General here on /tg/. With the new edition, though, chances are more games will crop up.

How many Exigents and what kind have you used in your games?

Quite.
>>
Would making medicine fall under Medicine or Craft? What about poisons?
>>
>>52031747

Good question. Possibly craft (Alchemy) to do either of them.
>>
>>52030758

>How many Exigents and what kind have you used in your games?

In my modern game, several.

- Exigent of rock and roll
- Exigent of Science and Engineering
- Exigent of Music (More of a name drop/plot point as this was dead in the plot long before the game start)
- Exigent of Blades
- Exigent of Bureaucracy
>>
>>52031747
>>52032415
Gathering herbs is survival, making them into medicine would fall into craft, maybe allow applicable medicine and survival specialities in the necessary rolls. application of the medicine would fall under the skill of the same name.
If ST doesn't allow applying medical skills in the crafting or gathering of healing herbs, I'd go for trans-ability charms. Homebrewing can be a lot of fun with some amount of reasonable thinking.
>>
>>52030758
I still want to run an Exigents' Bizarre Adventure thing some day.
>>
So how did your current character Exalt? This is usually the most difficult part of the backstory for me as I have difficulty categorizing actions as "Heroic."
>>
>>52037016
Well, not my current character, because I had to take up GMing after our planned GM was rendered unable to, but the character I was planning on playing was a Zenith bard type following around his dispossessed lord. He Exalted not after helping his liege escape an attempt on his life and title, but rather on the carriage ride out after they fled their manor, soothing the baron's quiet sobs with old folk songs in a moment of unrequited compassion for another. Unfortunately, the giant beam of Solar anima flaring to totemic kinda caused that plan to backfire a little bit.
>>
>>52037016

She was attempting to assassinate a mortal member of a dynastic house. The stress of the attack caused her mark to Exalt. When she chose to face him, instead of bugging out - knowing the she would likely die - she Exalted too.
>>
>>52037757

That's an interesting one because it immediately sets up a reoccurring character. What did the two of you Exalt as?
>>
>>52037016
My current character is a Zenith from Wavecrest named Righteous (he used to be called Bright Stone but recently changed his name). Righteous Stone was framed by one of the local judge-priests who wanted to marry his sister, but she wasn't interested. Righteous Stone ended up catching him trying to assault her and got into a fight. During the fight he crushed the judge-priest's left hand. The judge-priest managed to frame things as if he was the victim, and Bright Stone was was thrown in prison.

Eventually it came time to sacrifice people to the volcanoes so the guards took Righteous Stone up to the top, with the judge-priest watching.

"Do you have any last words?"

Righteous Stone gave an impassioned speech denouncing the judge and declaring that he would have his revenge for this abuse of power and called out to the heavens begging for them to protect his family since he would no longer be able to do so. That's when he began glowing with the power of the Exaltation.

All of the guards fell back, and Righteous Stone turned around and punched the volcano really hard, demanding that the volcano god to appear before him. The god did so, and Righteous Stone pointed at the judge-priest, "You're going to demand that he gets sacrificed to you. And you're going to do so right now."

The volcano god was rather daunted by the whole affair. He had been expecting a regular sacrificial offering, not an angry Solar so he quickly did so. The guards wasted no time in grabbing the priest-judge and chucking him into the volcano (apparently they didn't like him very much either).

Can anyone tell me what is up with the Talisman of Ten Thousand Eyes? If you want to craft one, its a 4 dot artefact, but it also needs a celestial working to make, but it's not a First Age Artefact and as such doesn't follow the rules for making one, such as needing additional workings.

Is that some sort of anomaly that it's not fully consistent with either type of artefact? It's also the only initiation ritual, I think, that requires you spend XP on something beyond the Sorcery charm. Any recommendation on a fix, or should it be left alone?
>>
Do decisive attack boosters work on gambits if they don't specifically say they do?
>>
>>52038682
Yes. A gambit is a type of decisive attack which typically does something other than deal damage, which means anything that can be used to boost decisive attacks can be used with a gambit.

Of course, some things might not be useful - if you're making a disarm gambit and use a Charm to try and boost damage, it won't do anything since you won't be dealing damage with your decisive attack.

Exigents aren't that interesting, unless you have an incredibly cool concept to back them up.

The two canon exigents of farming and exigent of cities could have been a wood terrestrial and a solar, respectively, and nothing of value would be lost.

Cool concepts include Masks, Keys, and... That's all I can do right now.
>>
Is it possible to use VEE to buff your allies to maximum? Is there any limit or downside I should be aware of?
>>
>>52040299

1) Unlike any other artefact you can make, it needs a SW.
2) Unlike a First Age Artefact, it only needs one and is otherwise made like a regular artefact.
3) It's the only initiation into sorcery that requires you spend XP beyond the charm.
4) It's the pnly initiation into sorcery that requires you to be initiated into sorcery.
>>
>>52037871

He Exalted Fire Aspect, she Night.
>>
>>52038410

Well, you can't make it to teach yourself Sorcery, because you already need to be able to perform Sorcery to create it.

The way I read it, if you as a PC choose it as one of your shaping rituals, you get it for free as per usual. But if you, as a PC Craft Monkey, want to start pumping them out to induct others into Sorcery, it's gonna cost XP for dem workings.
>>
So /exg/, how long do you reckon it'll be until we finally see 3e books for Infernals and/or Alchemicals?
>>
>>52041446
That >>52041577

You don't need to spend any extraneous XP to get that initiation, only if you want to create another one of those artifacts to jumpstart others into Sorcery. It's another one of those poorly thoughts, poorly worded design decisions taken to ensure that you can't mass produce artifacts or supermortals.

Don't think too hard about it. You'll only get a headache.
>>
>>52042008
But supermortals are so helpful.
Especially since they needn't be enlightened to be sorcerors now
>>
>>52042008

That's what I thought. I even double checked to see if the cost of the SW was comparable to the cost of the initiation charm. A Celestial working of Ambition 1 is 2xp if you already have Celestial Sorcery. If not, it's 6xp.

The "Can't mass produce sorcery" angle is obvious, I just feel it wasn't handled appropriately.

The autosux Presence buff charms. They are costly, but you can store autosux into a mortal for a given mission. The mission can be 'assassinate this guy' or 'create that weapon' or something like that.

Initiation is a necessary but not sufficent part of becoming a sorcerer, though. You need certain - vaguely defined but important - qualities to become a sorcerer. These qualities are supposed to be rare, based on comments made by Morke over the course of the core's development. You can't mass produce sorcerers even if you have an ifree lord at your beck and call.

They're spread around the Realm, with several householdes and estates of varying size for each House. A good chunk of them also live in the Imperial City, in the Empress' palace, which has a wing - which kind of is a fuckhuge sprawling estate in itself - for members of the Dynasty. As for manses, I'd say that every House probably has a few manses, at least 3-dot versions.

>Should I bother reading up on Fae/Yozi/neverborn right now or save that for later in the campaign?
Unless you plan on using Fae antagonists early on, you can probably wait. Yozis are covered in Games of Divinity, though, so if you're going to get an read it anyways you'll learn somehting about them as well.
>>
>>52054152
It might never come up, but I was toying with the idea that the empress has body swapped via essence with one of her kids, or one of their kids, as a way of buying herself some time. Like she switched bodies with Mnemon, put her away somewhere and just throws a big ol fit in public biweekly to get incognito and convince everyone it's business as usual while she plots to reconquer her empire for fun and profit. With her anagathic sorcerous knowledge the leap would buy her a good nother 400 years easy.

>>52054480
Where are the neverborn properly covered just in case? Do these things have stats for 3e yet, or will I have to wing it and knock up some myself in case of a demon attack, or them trying to jump Mask of Winters?

>Has anyone used the Empress in their games?

A short lived campaign that was about the prophetic preparations of several high figures for when the Empress came back and decided to nuke their cities. Like Nexus.

At the end of the campaign, the Empress cambe back and nuked those cities. Their manse teleported at the other side of creation, so it wasn't as dangerous for the PC.

It wasn't really good, but the giant holographic Empress pointing cities with her finger and going POOF was a good scene.

>>52051369
Each family nucleus has a household, which is often absolutely grandiose, with servants, retainers, and family living together. Think Chinese or Japanese manse/household, holding a powerful family and a legion of other people too.

Each Great House also has a primary estate which is often the household of the patriarch/matriarch of the entire house. Like a personal family estate, but x1000. In a pinch you can crash into that estate if you're a member of the Great House, and there's always room for family. Like, a thousand of them.

Out of curiosity, how have you dealt with the timeless aspect of characters? Like, how long have you ever done a time-skip for during a campaign, or post campaign? I imagine that during, everything or a good chunk of things is crucial so you won't be time skipping very much aside from the normal days/weeks/couple of months, at most a year or two.

Also, have you ever had extensively lived characters afflicted with "Elf syndrome" or "Immortal syndrome" where their concept of time is completely fucked because of their longevity? I might be overthinking this.
>>
>>52054537
If you really want to stat the neverborn, I advice to give them infinite health and a charm that induces mindmelting every tick, but no direct attacks.
Because they are reality defying monstrosities existing in a perpetual state of ¨And I must scream¨. they are not characters but forces that be.
>>
>>52055697
Cleaning up? Athletics/Awareness+Dex/Wits I'd say.
Roll repeatedly until you hit a target number, suceeding on the first roll with threshold sucesses indicates you're done faster, with each additional success adding less time you're done earlier.
Also invert Intervals and time, each roll adding a distinct amount of time until you are done.

Still, there are people who like that, I would,if only because the idea of a reborn warrior-king who wrestles horrors from beyond the world on a regular basis cleaning up a library is kinda funny, especially when you handle it mechanically inthe same way. It's a nice juxtaposition of purpose and mechanics.

Alrighty. Only reason I ask is because my groupnis starting a Dragonblooded game soon, and I'm playing a Cathak fire-aspect that has, uh...difficulties with discipline. Since the old aspect book mentioned in an example NPC's story that Cathak teaches discipline by making unruly children do a metric shit-ton of chores around the house, we started joking about how my character's probably gotten so good at housework he's probably developed charms for it. But then, there's -actual- cooking charms in the Clutch of Dragons homebrew, so I started half-entertaining the idea as a joke, but had no idea what ability that'd fall under.

Some choice quotes from our chat;

"THESE COUNTERS SHALL SHINE BRIGHTER THAN A THOUSAND FIRE DYNASTS!!!"
"THESE CLOTHES SHALL FOLD LIKE ENEMY FORCES BEFORE HIS MIGHT"

What's your favourite supernal starter?

Whenever I make a character for 3e, I pick a powerful charm or charm combo from their supernal ability. Seems like a good way to get a character started and give them something no other PC is going to have. I like Spirit-Drawing Oculus from Occult and Energy Restoration Prana from Integrity for having tonnes of motes, but I imagine some people are going to go with the E5 combat charms (like the Brawl Super Saiyan charm) or starting play with a complete martial art.

Any favourites or recommendations?
>>

A dedicated clash build is great for fucking people up. As is dodge for shutting people down. Have to say that I like the combat support offered by Lore.
>>
>>52062248

I do it sort of the same way, but I tend to shoot for mid-tier charms at chargen. Capstones seem to require almost all of my starting charms, which makes my character too narrow for my tastes.

What rating would a portable hole be in Exalted? Any associated costs you think to pop it in?
>>
>>52063794
An actual portable hole is a bit to comic for Exalted (it's literally a Looney Tunes item), but previous editions have stated these.

Cache Egg
Created to store treasured or particularly useful possessions Elsewhere, both to keep them “nearby”
at all times and out of the reach of thieves, these jade vessels have the shape and texture of large eggs. The
volume of a cache egg determines its artifact rating as follows:
• one cubic foot or less ••• three cubic yards or less
•• up to one cubic yard •••• up to 10 cubic yards
Eggs rated at three dots or better are all but unheard of in the Second Age. Most are lost, having
been either broken or banished Elsewhere by long-dead owners.
Opening or closing a cache egg requires a touch and costs one mote. Up to half the shell may be opened
from any point on its surface. The interior is hollow and may be fi lled with any inanimate cargo up to its
maximum volume. If the shell is completely sealed and the vessel contains nothing living, a character may
touch it and spend 20 motes (uncommitted) to banish the vessel as a diceless miscellaneous action, causing
it to fl icker and vanish from the world into the non-space of Elsewhere. While banished, the egg retains an
arcane link to the character who banished it, allowing her to recall it at any time into a space large enough to
contain it by spending another 20 motes as an action. Recalled vessels return in physical contact with their
owners, where they may be opened and their contents reclaimed. Objects stored Elsewhere experience no
passage of time from the moment they are banished until they return to Creation. Characters cannot have
more than one egg linked to them, and banishing a second vessel while the fi rst remains Elsewhere shatters
the earlier connection, most likely exiling the egg and its contents to remain forever apart from the world.
>>
>>52063832
Also, the write-up encourages you to bullshit them out of thin air. Broken into two parts due to character limit.

Celestial Exalted can sometimes recall cache eggs banished by prior incarnations of their Essence,
but doing so is extremely diffi cult, requiring a successful (Intelligence + Lore) roll at diffi culty 10 and Sto-
ryteller approval. Some First Age Exalted took advantage of this feature to leave behind “time capsules”
for future incarnations containing journals, dreamstones or prized treasures they wanted to bequeath to
their future selves.

So something in the style of a portable hole, a magical tapestry I could unroll to access an extradimensional space I keep my goodies would be within reason?
>>
>>52063874

As long as its only to access goodies, and not to pop in and out of yourself, or trick enemies into falling into, I'd allow it in may games.

In fact, for a tapestry, I'd say touching it and spending a mote would let you store the item in the tapestry, whereupon it would be appear visually in the tapestry's scene, and the reverse for retrieving.

He has had a mean streak for a few years but has had a rediscovery of self and is now filled with determination to fight for justice, protect the weak and look good while doing it. He is a braggard, a loud mouth, and more often than not an exaggerator. He will unabashedly tell people of his grand adventures and deeds, and is the sort of "a woman in each port" type of man.

Since he sounds like a larger-than-life person that's more about the concept of good in himself than rather than ideals that may exist independently of him, I suggest a large avatar representative of an idealized/stylized/divine version of himself. The embodiment of his divine exaltation that can no longer be contained in mortal flesh.

Something that speaks out "This is what I truly am. Perhaps what you -could- be."

Abyssals are given new names by their Deathlords, I believe, and some other Exalted take on grandiose titles of their own choosing.

What are all of the possible ways some asshat could start with resources or influence 5? Aside from Dynasts, he doesn't want to be connected.
>>

Resource 5, he's going to be connected to someone. Remember, resources represents an ongoing income, not just a static value - you don't bring in millions a week without connecting with other people.

If the only people he wants to be connected to are Dynasts, then I guess he's from a dynastic house. For him to have that level of income - and a comensurate position in the house - he'd have to have been faking a Terrestrial Exaltation, probably for quite a while, so I hope the rest of his character's skills are up to that.

The asshat was secretly the lastest bastard sired by an ultra-rich, ultra-eccentric Ragara, and came into an inherentence as unexpected as it is enormous.

This is going to attract a bunch of resentment from the Dynast's legitimate descendants, obiously.

This only justifies Ressources 5.

Having trouble coming up with a name for my four-dot artifact, could use some help if anyone here is good with that sorta stuff.

The artifact is a reaper daiklave made from an alloy of red jade and orichalcum, designed to work with sorcery sort of like a spellsword. There's a custom malfeas charm that does the exact opposite of WTD(protects against getting blinded by flashes, bucks manipulation, etc) which specifies that if you combine it with WTD everything from both charms cancels each other out except for the protection against basically any sort of blinding effect.

On the one hand I want to say that sort of thing is going against the spirit of the splat, but on the other, rubbing the charms from two yozis together in that way is kind of interesting and seems like a very smooth way to 'discover' the idea if heresy in-character.

I'm glad that Onyx Path is taking a slow and steady approach to Exalted now in order to assure at least decently quality content, as opposed to 2e's fast but oftentimes shitty release pace, but considering how long it's taken just to get the corebook out, I'm wondering if there's a point where OPP's Exalted releases become so slow that people who want non-Solar, non-DB content start losing interest in the game. Personally, my favorite part of Exalted was the Alchemicals and Autochthonia, but at this point I'm starting to worry that I'll already be raising kids by the time 3e Alchemicals is published. Evocations were divided into tiers, much like sorcery, and only certain Exalts could reach certain tiers. Solars were the best, then DBs, and Sidereals were the worst. Lunars lost the ability to use Evocations in their Warforms. The amount of dots an Artefact had determined the amount of Evocations it could have, which at the very least gave a way to determine whether the daiklave you want to craft should be three dots or four.

Newfag questions:

Is it worth taking Dodge alongside Melee, since Parry and Evasion are mutually exclusive?

What armor class is best? Does medium armor have value, or should you just go light or heavy?

Regarding short daiklaves, you get two for a single Artifact merit. Do you have to pay attunement for both?

Is there a guide for 3e character creation? I know about attribute costs, and I'm trying to figure out what I should leave chargen with. I'd also like advice on charms.
>>
>>52077167

>Is it worth taking Dodge alongside Melee, since Parry and Evasion are mutually exclusive?

You can take Doge as well as Melee, but buying up the parry tree in Melee will be a bit redundant.

>What armor class is best? Does medium armor have value, or should you just go light or heavy?

No class is "best" you always have to choose between higher dodge or higher soak. If it's artefact armour, you also need to take attunement costs into account. Medium armour tends to be the heaviest you can take for certain MA styles.

>Do you have to pay attunement for both?

No.

>Is there a guide for 3e character creation?

Easily the most difficult question. There's a number of spreadsheets for helping you stat your char, though.

Don't completely negelect combat charms. usually an excellency is enough, though. If you fail a roll outside combat, no biggie. In combat, you could die.

Stunting is not needed to parry a ranged attack unless a) you're trying to parry the attack with your bare hands b) AND the attack will deal lethal damage instead of bashing. Same rule applys to parrying a sword with your bare hands.

Same for me and Infernals. I've pretty much accepted that by the time the new Infernals book is out, my interest in this game will probably be long dead, except as a passing fancy. On top of that, from what I gathered from the "preview", OPP is doing away with all the things that made Infernals special mechanically, and in part thematically, and reducing to Abyssals 2.0; i.e. "We're EXACTLY like Solars! Malfeas’ fetich is the blinding green sun, Ligier, and no lesser light can faze him. He ignores any penalties and sensory impairment caused by bright light, treating it as a clear day. This attunement to light has a cost, increasing the penalty caused by shadowy illumination or darkness by one.
Should the Infernal suffer a Crippling effect that blinds her, she may perfectly ignore the effect as a defense to see clearly. However, for as long as this benefit is used, Primordial Essence leaks from the eye (or socket), making this Charm Obvious. The player defines how the leakage manifests.
Finally, no lesser force than her own can penetrate the Infernal’s will. She adds her essence rating to her MDVs against Charisma based social attacks and as bonus successes to recognise or study such passions. Her forceful nature makes it harder to deceive, however, imposing an internal penalty of her essence rating to any Manipulation based social attack.
A character who possesses both this charm and Witness to Darkness gains neither benefit nor penalty from either in respect to social attacks – understanding both force and guile, she receives a single bonus die on either, and to her MDV pools, but otherwise uses Charisma and Manipulation as normal

I thought Abyssals and Infernals made really great "villain-solars" in distinct ways. Abyssals had twisted mockeries of Solar powers, but thematically were their own crazy thing with all the feudalism of death and regret stuff. Infernals were just the opposite with thematics revolving around a twisted vision of the Solars' "rightful rulers of creation returning" thing, but powers that were completely off the wall bonkers and uniquely theirs.

Thse are exactly the directions you want to go with 'badguy versions of _____' splats and exalted nailed both of them.

My biggest saving graces are improv and well run slightly gonzo combat/action.

>>
>>52079915
Ehhh, I don't see what all the fuss was about. As far as I'm concerned, all that was pretty normal for White Wolf. If they didn't write like 14 year old edgelords, they weren't doing their job.

Hey thanks, but what about sight bonus and penalty though? Do they cancel each other out or I can look clearly both in the light and dark?
>>
>>52079453
Yeah, see, that's what concerned me. It's been a long time since I read the previews, and honestly, I'm not at all interested enough in going through them again, but from what I remember, they totally reversed Aybssals and Infernals around, so the former had super special Charms, while Infernals got stuck with "copypaste Solar charms with Yozi names slapped on". I think it was the whole Devil Tiger path and the fact that 2e Infernal charms made them incredibly versatile at just about anything except combat that bugged the devs. If so, it's complete bullshit. I LIKED working my way up to eventually becoming my own Yozi. I LIKED that instead of being the best special snowflake, I could become the whole fucking blizzard.

So like a Kireeki-Class Assault Skyreme or a Titan Class Aerial Citadel?

Honestly though, for a Magic Schoolbus Spell it looks okay to me, though I would probably remove the ability to heal it since it's fairly pointless. With a minimum Essence of 5 to cast, it'll be flying at 750 mph which is pretty much faster than anything in the setting.

So if you take The Burning Name merit, you get a thrown attack that rolls (Int+Occult), but how does that work? Do you use Occult or thrown excellencies? Can you use Thrown charms? You presumably still need to buy into Thrown to get the charms, so what are you really getting besides a thrown weapon that will never run out of ammo?

>>
>>52082062
The definition of the Thrown tag and the Thrown skill suggests you can use Thrown charms, but I believe you would use the Thrown skill instead of Occult--the Thrown tag is defined by the use of Thrown, and even applies to weapons that are not typically thrown but can be used as such, like the club.

So, in short, I think you can either use Int+Occult or Dex+Thrown. Maybe haggle with your ST if you'd rather use Int+Thrown or some combination thereof. When you use one skill, you use that skill's excellency and charms.
>>
>>52079589

Sandbox. But we tend to stay in one direction, so languages is only a thing if you're dealing with the realm, or primitive tribes. Nobody at my table cares how much an obol is, or whether its in scrip or jade. I tend to make up NPC info on the fly, unless its one of the handful of canon NPCs I've pre-researched.
>>

>>
>>52083554
warstrider kungfu? or to emulate the colossus essence level?
>>
>>52083757

The colossi expansion levels would probably have to wait for another day, but at the very least one of the spells Alchemical has involves summoning a remote control Warstrider, so that's something that needs adjusting.

One of the MA's I wrote works with Warstriders already, Ironheart Destroyer may be modern only but its literally Gundam Heavyarms the Martial art.

I do have plans involving large Alchemicals though, neither Colossi nor cities but I'll see if I can finish them along with the rest of project I'm making. Assuming if they're feasible in the first place, I just have the idea in my head.

>>
>>52084084

It is. Doesn't mean it won't have warstriders though. It just means that they are unique relics from a lost age, or hoarded superweapons of forgotten technology, not number 73 to come off the assembly line today.

>>
>>52084452
Warstriders are being kept because they are iconic. I don't expect 3E will go into the details of their construction, maintenance, or fuel requirements and what have you. Instead they will basically be big statues made from the magical materials that you can get inside and use as a big magical body. Kind of like a Vimana from Indian myth, but person shaped
>>
>>52084605
Yeah the aesthetic is more golem you control rather than machine you pilot.

>>
>>52084452
The intention was never to completely abandon magitech, merely to have it be present as incredibly rare and incredibly valuable remnants of the First Age. Obviously this means that individual pieces of magitech will be a big fucking deal. It doesn't really make magitech more important, though. Something that rare can be ice to have, it can give you an important edge in some situations, but you can't really build an empire on it or anything like that.

The issue is not magitech. The issue is how poorly handled magitech was in 2e.

In essence, 2e's magitech had two big problems: It was mass producible and thematically bland.

When you have rules to mass produce magitech, when the primary players of the setting can churn magitech from their factories (The Realm, Lookshy, Heaven, Underworld, Malfeas, even Paragon), you suddenly have a setting that is about the magitech you can produce and not about the exalted heroes that survives in it. Magitech should not be mass producible. Ideally, Magitech should not be producible at all any more.

Secondly, 2e's magitech was thematically empty. TES' Dwemers have magitech, but they do it by systematically breaking reality with a mix of applied nihilism, brass gods, manipulating souls, and a hivemind. That's thematically awesome. In comparison, 2e's magitech is magical robots/planes/tanks powered by magical electricity from the time where magical internet and magical computers were a reality.

As long as the two issues are solved, I'm perfectly fine with magitech in Exalted.

The problem is that adventures are, of necessity, somewhat on rails, whereas the whole point of playing a Solar Exalted is that you tear up rails with your bare hands, twist them into pretzels, and beat the Storyteller's favourite NPC to death with them.

Dungeons don't work in Exalted, because most exalts can bypass any dungeon with incredible ease, and have no need for wealth or xp from monsters. Exalted is all about creative problem solving using phenomenal cosmic power. A dungeon that needs to be cleansed can be nuked from afar; one that has something you want can be solved by brainwashing a legion of followers who will explore it for you. Any puzzle can be solved trivially by using superhuman abilities, and walls can be taken down with ease.

Some adventures (esp. 1e) try to do dungeons and absolutely fail at it.

Some other adventures are more open, but they still assume the players will stay in a city or do something in particular. Some assume the Solars won't try to brainwash half the city by noon, and that's wrong - others assume they can be cowered and need for stealth, when a reasonable party can go gun blazing and still win.

They also give you premade characters, and that's removing half the fun of Exalted.

The best 'adventures' are the one that are completely open ended. RotSE has a lot of bad rep, but is actually relatively coherent and reasonably good in my book. It is the pinnacle of what an Exalted campaign can be.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying but just to verify, any committed motes are tied up for the duration of the Charm and once the Duration ends those motes disappear, having been spent.

If you have 40m and spend 10m on a scene long Charm, your mote cap becomes 30, those 10 are being used for the Charm, then when the scene ends, those 10m disappear and you're cap goes back up to 40m, but you don't get those 10m back, you'd still be at 30.

By any chance is the guy who made https://loom.webtelligence.com.au/#/ in this thread? If so, there's a bug where the popup showing how many charms, specialties, ability dots, etc that you've used shows more than you have. I've 14 charms and it says I've 15 when I'm in the charms tab, and when I'm in the traits tab it says I've 4 specialties when I've 3. This error only occurs in the tab that governs those pieces of chargen, I think what's happening is that it's still counting charms and specialties that I've deleted, but I'm not sure.

Keep up the good work though, it's a great program.

>At night, a platoon of ghosts enters Creation through one of these shadowlands. The ghosts of Tzatli are 15 centuries old and powerful. Every ghost has at least Essence 3, knows at least a dozen Charms and likely possesses an artifact weapon. Three ghosts come for every character, and they attack while most characters are asleep. They seek to capture the characters rather than killing them, however, and very probably succeed.

Yeah, a dozen or so Essence 3 ghosts are "probably" going to beat the shit out of a party of Solar Exalted and take them captive. Who the fuck wrote that?

>>52074383
Lol, by the time we finally get all the splats, D&D will probably be in 9th edition.
>>
>>52092790

I don't know if that's being optimistic about Exalted or pessimistic about D&D.
>>
>>52092895
A D&D edition generally lasts about what? 5 years or so? And they're on 5th edition now and it came out 3 years ago in 2014. So we're probably looking at somewhere around 20 more years or so until the release of 9th edition D&D.

For Exalted, at the current rate, we're looking at one new splat book every 2 years. You have the primary 7 Exalts (Solars, Lunars, Sidereal, Abyssals, Dragon Blooded, Infernals. Alchemicals), plus now Liminals, Gentimians and Exigents for a total of 10 primary Exalted splats, one of which has been published.

So with 9 to go, that means we're looking at about 18 years to see all of the splats published, compared to around 20 years for 9th edition D&D.

So honestly that other anons estimate seems fairly realistic to me.

Just one splat every two years is absolutely no way to run a successful game franchise. It'd kill any and all optimism and interest for Exalted. It's obvious that OPP will prioritize the "core" and new Exalts over the peripheral ones like Infernals and Alchemicals. For someone like me, who's a fan of both, it's not encouraging at all to think that I'll have to wait almost 20 years for them. Hell, by the time they're finally out, I think most players will have gotten more used to playing with homebrews instead. I'm already nervous enough wondering if Lunars are finally gonna be worth a damn. I sincerely hope OPP has a much better release schedule than "two years, one splat". Hell, I hope it's better than "one year, one splat".

>>52094159
I'd hate the 'peripheral Exalts' as you called them being pushed back far.
As I said, infernals are conceptual awesome, as are their charms and they should get the guy who wrote them into their boat for this.
>>
>>52094425
They're peripheral in the sense that they're relatively inconsequential to the overall story of Exalted. The Abyssals already fill the role of "evil Solar counterparts", and they, the Deathlords, and Neverborn are a far bigger threat than the Infernals and Yozi can ever be.

As for Alchemicals, even though they were by far the best designed Exalts ever in theme and mechanics (most likely because they were the last ones written and therefore learned from all past mistakes), there's no question that they are completely and utterly irrelevant to Creation, due to them all being isolated on a Primordial worldship hurtling through the void. The only way they ever show up at all on Creation is through some Storyteller McGuffin. I love Infernals and Alchemicals, I really do, but they don't matter as much as the rest, and they'll pretty much always be at the back of the production line.

Infernals are not evil solars and never should be. They should be alien, strange and, by their very nature, terrifying. Things like resting while dashing and coughing up radioactive fire or eadible insects from the desert sands.
They should unify the terrible presence and awesomeness inherent in being a first age solar and channel it through the intense cosmic idiocy and power into hobbling themselves in strange ways and gaining reasoning defying powers. They should channel the power of the idiot-savants that are the yozi to transcend them. They should be, by their very nature, relevant to creation like their counterparts.

Seems more like he was referencing the "one of Adorjan's Stealth charms" part of the statement, as if he believed that one Charm would be the exception and the rest of the Infernal charmset would mostly consist of bland Solar knockoff Charms. I disagree with this assumption.
>>
>>52087948
You forgot the third problem with magitech: it was treated like the ultimate form of artifice, as if magitech artifacts were generally more advanced and effective than the equivalent "normal" artifacts, and the sort of thing which any artificer of sufficient skill would prefer to create. It's like your Glorious Solar Plate was just the first level of artifact armor, and the Level 2 upgrade would be orichalcum-moonsilver alloy powered armor with starmetal targeting circuits, magical laser guns, built-in elemental thrusters for flight, and a miniaturized geomantic reactor to supply it with magical electricity.

Essentially, it worked like mundane technology, where you start with swords and shield and horses, then move on to guns and cars and computers which are more advanced and effective. That isn't how they want artifacts to be portrayed; now they're trying to rework it so that magitech is just one option for an artifact's aesthetic, and artifacts that aren't "futuristic machines but based on magical physics" will be equally valid and effective, so that things like a legendary sword forged in a volcano or an enchanted tapestry woven from wind and fate would be just as plot-important and representative of skill as a computerized flying battleship.
>>
>>52096993

Do we know if there'll be guidelines to making magitech and what makes it different from regular artifacts? The core mentions gunzosha armor as an example of first age artifice, but despite having rules for that, we don't know what's so special about it.
>>
>>52095575
And yet something tells me OPP will fuck up like White Wolf often did and write Infernals as Slaanesh-Lite edgelords.
