How common were MKIV assault Marines for night lords? Night Raptors use MKV armor, but given the fluff about them, they seem like they came along later.

I ask because I'm debating getting a 20man squad of assmarines, which are the MKIV. Personally, I think NL look best in MKIV armor, but I like the dual turbine look of II and V better.

All traitors had a pretty decent supply of mk4 because most of the Mechanicum favored the traitors

[You cunts thought you could get away from me edition]

These threads were fucking GREAT, before Betrayal at Calth.

Ever since then they have been an absolute shit-fest of people not knowing what the living fuck they are talking about asking the dumbest questions about things a simple google would inform them on.
>"Should I buy the rule books?"
>"Should I take my Primarch in a body guard of termies?"
>"What is the most op load out on termies?"
>"Guys, when did MkVII come out in the heresy?"
>"Did the Death Guard have MkVII? Mine do...".
>"Did X legion have X armor? How many of it did they haves? I could read, or google, but I cba. I think they look best in plastic Mk4 anywayz"
>"Guys, is 60 tactical marines, one preator in cataphractii with a chainfist, one primus medicae in cataphractii and a chainfist, and three contemptors make a good army?"
>"Guys, if I don't want to buy FW, LOL COS THEY LOOK POOEY, is the plastic box-sets, which look so GOOD, a good option?"
>"What legion should I collect? I know this is a story driven niche of an already niche industry, but i'm so detached from what makes this form of Warhammer good that I don't even have a top two legions I'm torn between."

I remember being HYPED when these threads started popping up. Really in-depth lore and speculation. People who were in regular contact with BL and FW production teams from weekenders and correspondence. Minute rule discussion. Headcannon. Now all it is is stupid questions, people justifying their tactical boxes purchases, and every time a new GW release comes out it just re-sets all the gayness.

On a side note, as to >>52027793
>>52029118
>>52029150
Discussion, talking to people close to nottingham and the thought processes, it is unlikely there will be a rhino, it will probably be Dark Angels vs Night Lords, so either MkIII or MkII with MkIV + jump packs. There will likely not be another heresy era vehicle in plastic, too much of a cash cow for FW to hand over to the sperges.

We have no idea. You've got novels referring to pale gray Death Guard when they always looked painted ivory to me. Some of the early Crusade-era gray schemes seem to be bare ceramite too. GW sells a color called Ceramite White. So who knows? I'd be surprised if we ever got a canonical ruling about it.

>>52035735
I don't believe there's a way. You sure you wouldn't stand them in as Medusas? But no, I wouldn't object to Griffon stats and points (how would they be pointed, anyway?), even though the Chimera chassis doesn't exist in HH yet.

There is a difference between autism and being irritated when someone can't even know the answer, or even has to ask "When did Horus become Warmaster?"

It is on the tier of "Who is chaos?"
"Has Sanguinius got wings?"
"Which Primarch Died first?"
"Who were the traitors and who weren't?"

The questions just scream "WHY are you here?" Why the fuck do you CARE about this game? How did you even hear about it? Why would you even want to put money into playing it?

Night Lords occasionally did, under Curze's nose. Partially correct answer.
Dracos was forged by Vulkan out of a DAoT alloy, so it doesn't really count, and the top three tough marines are the DG and Sallies true, but also the IHs.
DGs are matched with Sallies, but Mortarion isn't a perpetual so it has nothing to do with it.

Which books do I need to buy? Does anyone know where I could like, download them for free or something? Has anyone photographed the pages?

When you say the legion I should buy, can you tell me what is best for them and who their primarch is and where their rules are?

I can't find anything in the space marine codex about Legion rules.

The Custodes are very far away and will in any case be intercepted by the traitors entering behind Horus.

A better question is why are the Custodes over by the window instead of coming through the door behind the Emperor, even if they're only a few minutes behind (since he finds Horus when both are alone).

The answer to that is thematic composition: Horus' eye sigil dominates the right-hand side of the image, indicating his baleful power being turned on Terra, which dominates the left (and is above rather than below because Horus is a creature of the underworld by this stage). The Custodes, guardians of Terra, are therefore thematically standing "between" Horus and his goal, as are the God-Emperor and his slain angel. If this was painted on the roof of the Sistine Chapel, you'd be fucking loving it, you heretic.

What I really want to know is what's up with that globe with the moon by the CSMs in the right corner. It's just kind of there, at the top of the stairs. It's pretty redundant (since it's not recognizably Terra) so it's just the clutter of a crazy old Warmaster... but what does he do with it?

The later ones are me, the salty cunt, memeing. But do you guys now realize how fucking annoying it is? We need to DO something. If only to add a permanent header to the Original Post listing a couple examples of stupid questions.

We can't let one of the best topical generals (in that the topic is great, not the threads themselves) be reduced to a constant, never ending, stupid questions, ignorant people, plastic justification, people who don't know and don't care about the FIRST things in the setting of 30k, people who can't even be bothered to know ANYTHING or even find out ANYTHING on their own before delving into the subject. OVER and over and over and over and over and over, thread after thread after thread after thread, the SAME questions, the same dumbfuckness.

Seriously. Maybe having a first post in the thread being a standard template of saying NO "dubs decides my legion" "did this armor mark exists/get used by xyz" "Can I take". It's all THERE right at the top. Wiki's are THERE for basic fluff. We need to do something guys, because these threads have shit discussion outside of Forgeworld Open days and recent BL HH book releases.

I'm not talking about stopping shitposting. Shitposting is fine, we can all identify and ignore it. I'm talking about ignorant as shit discussion or questions from people who clearly know nothing about, and can't be bothered to find out about, 30k.

I'm trying to start a discussion about circumventing something which takes up 60% of these threads, which means they will go slower, take a longer time to reach their post limits, last on the board for longer, and have, theremore, far more considered content.

I DO want to see those things, but we need something added to the picture, the OP post, or the first post as a C&P rules/guidelines.

Standard responses.
Whenever I asked my father the meaning of a word he made me grab a dictionary and search it up myself.
Thus, we could give standard responses to dumb questions.
>Hey guise what about X?

So they'll leave for answers and we'll keep our sanity.
I knew those posts were a dissillutioned (You), but I tried to go Salamander/Death Guard/Iron Warrior on you:
In order for our works endure, we must endure ourselves. We're not right because we're mighty, we're mighty because we're right.

Stupidity and ignorance are inherent of mankind (why do you think only the Emperor could lead us?), but the ones who know must school the ones who don't.

I'm with you, brother. Do not despair. We got a new book, I'll post meaningful stuff when I finish, I promise, and I want you to be there so we can discuss it.

30k isn't FOR people who don't care about fluff. It is a subset of a period of history of a single faction from one half of a table-top gaming company franchise. I don't hate new guys, but much like when you want to join a book club, or travel to a foreign country, or knit, or sew, or cook food, you actually have to understand the very basics of what the fuck it is you're doing and what you want from it.

You don't turn up to an airport and do "Where is a good place to go on holiday?" or go to that book club and go "So what happened at the end?" It's fucking stupid. What you could really get out of it, and everyone else could really get out of it, are those lovely "OHHHH" moments where small details and nuances click, or asking about how contradictions in fluff mesh or fail to mesh. Asking "When did Horus become warmaster and bad?" is so disgustingly painful to everyone else.

I'm fine with you all going REEEE, I know I speak for dozens of people who would word things less harshly, or just not bother bringing it up at all.

Forgelords are fun as fuck

First they're one of the only units that anyone can take that can get a 3++ by combining cataphractii and a familiar

Add a (relentless) conversion beamer and he's a tough artillery piece

He combos amazingly with servitors with rad missiles as they can knock down thallax to T4 so he can ID them or wound a castellax on a 2+ for the rest of the game.

Forgelord + rad servitors is probably one of the best sources of rad phage in the game.

Oh and he can take a jetbike if you just want a really fucking fast relentless conversion beamer

or he can hang out with your jetbikes/outriders because he's got fucking rad grenades on a bike chassis.

And to top it all off he can have a nuncio vox in any of those combos.

I've ran a forgelord no RoW list as AL and it's fun and effective

Pic related, my MVP
>>
>>52038071
I've played around with the idea of modeling one in cataphractii, but it seems like a large points investment for what is essentially just a 2w chosen with a Toughness debuff attached.

Any thoughts on the servo-automata? the use of them in recon companies as pseudo-devastators is there, but I haven't seen much discussion about the rad missiles option or any of the other weapons loadouts.
>>
>>52038118

Servo automata with rad missiles are pricey but solid even for their points. T5 in 4+ cover in your deployment zone is pretty tough and being able to dump 4 small blast templates with fleshbane and radphage is useful against anything but a knight list.
>>
>>52038105
>I've ran a forgelord no RoW list as AL and it's fun and effective
Ooh nice. Mind telling me about it? I want to know about the supposed AL's main trait being flexibility.
>>
What point size is commonly played at your store?
>>
>>52038182

It was a mostly armored list with the forgelord way in the back in cover. He provided some very needed objective cleansing by wiping out thallax, rapiers and tacticals in spades while the Spartan and sicarans did the heavy lifting.

The forgelord himself won't necessarily benefit hugely from mutable tactics directly (although don't underestimate a long range tank hunter conversion beamer + krak missiles)

but he benefits greatly from having a Spartan scout move up the table and take attention away from him.

No RoW in that list because there really wasn't any gimmick I wanted to push.

3k for tournaments or long casual games
>>

Which do you prefer?

My group is obsessed over 2500-5000 2v2 or 2v1 or god awful 3v2 games that take all night to play.

I have the same problem. Everyone wants to play high points for >muh scale, but I'm just over here wanting to do Victory is Vengeance...
>>
>>52038382

ZM is fun as fuck, if I worked all day and get to the store at 6:00 or so, I prefer a quick and dirty ZM game.

All of the optional rules for ZM make it a blast to play. Doors add a lot of unpredictability (the good kind) to the game and make it feel a lot like space hulk.

3v3 3000 point games (so 1000 points each) can be a lot of fun too since it's a big group of guys playing together.

5000 2v2 sounds like a fucking mess.

I'm having a hard time deciding on Terminator loadouts /hhg/ I know the conventional wisdom regarding terminators at least for the most part, but none of it seems to help much when I'm trying to put together a pride of the legion list for Raven Guard. Use will be for zone mortalis boarding actions, but I also wanted to try and make it workable for standard 30k. Currently have 2 squads of cataphractii and 3 squads of tartaros, all unbuilt except for 1 squad of tartaros. some magnet work is being done on right arms to allow for combi/volkite swaps, but given the nature of the plastic terminator kits and upgrade sets I have to glue left arm weapons in place and the same for any special weapon arms (reaper/HF) I only have 5 combi-weapons available to spread around as well.

I'm expanding my XIIIth and want to add some Locutarus Assault Squads. However, most of my army is in Mk3, which isn't really fitting for Jump Pack Units, so my question is:

Should I use Mk4 or even Mk6 for my Locutarus or just put them in Mk3 anyway?

Interestingly enough, the Warhound, Reaver, and Warlord unit Compositions always mention "Titan", but the Warlord-Sinister is referred to in the Unit Composition and next to its stat line simply as a Warlord-Sinister. As Ordo Sinister Sinister does have Secutarii, do their Secutarii benefit from the Titan Guard rule? or is it RAI that they do not, due to the Shroud of Terror?
Forgive me if I'm being an idiot.

The Emperor and Horus are already fighting. This isn't your Dragon Ball Z, that fight's going to be over in seconds before anything mortal can possibly intervene.

If you kill off the HQs in an Ultramarines army, the whole army has to take a pinning test.
>>
>>52039441
Cortex Controllers (or Psykers in the case of TS) where Automata are present, Warlords and HQs in UM, NL, TS and Mechanicum armies. Primarch and 10-man TDA squads in Super-heavy. In all honesty it varies on case-to-case basis and skilled opponent will not allow it.
In my opinion it's better to shatter the backbone of the enemy army because even the head can only do so much.

Yep, there's explicitly one (chapter master Astelan) in the dark angels novels for starters. (Though sometimes the lightning bolt heraldry just indicates they've fought alongside the Emperor, but not necessarily on Terra.)

>>
>>52041031
Nothing indicates that marines have a lifespan. BA Chapter Master Dante has served for 1000 years so maybe you are getting mixed up and Grey Knights are a unique case, maybe they have knowledge and skills more important to the chapter than their fighting ability.

TRIGGER WARNING: 40K STUFF
The community site had a bit about Guy Haley's upcoming Dante book, where it said this:
>Dante has a role to play, and he plays it well. The kicker is that he’s absolutely exhausted. He’s old. Really, really old, almost impossibly so. He’s been watching the Imperium slide toward destruction for 1500 years, and that’s got to be depressing.
So, yeah, along with Qruze like that other anon says, seems marines do lose some vibrancy with age.

To make this post slightly 30k related, it seems this book will have more details of Baal and that:
>The funny thing is, I discovered there wasn’t actually all that much detail about the Blood Angels. Certainly nothing to compare with the Ultramarines, Dark Angels or Space Wolves, all of whom have had lots of novels written about them. I found that fairly basic things were not stated. Their fortress monastery had no name. Baal and its two moons of Primus and Secundus were sketchily detailed.
>Sound bad? Not really. This lack of definition was an absolute gift to a writer like me. I love world building, all that figuring out the details of societies and planets, of how this crazy stuff I love so much works.
...so it may be interesting to get some of that fleshed out. Still not sure how I feel about Haley making the Blood Angels his pet project (like Kyme did the Salamanders when he noticed they didn't have a lot of lore) though.

Interestingly, Custodes are explicitly immortal as of Inferno (at least to the author's knowledge), so theoretically there could be some ancient Custards still about (though we know Valdor didn't last as Captain-General forever).
>>
>>52041114
>If it has been changed since, or HH marines are different
This is going to sound like a tired meme and moving goalposts but I think the issue here is is Matt Ward, there was never anything so explicit with regards to space marine life spans, it has always been yeah they could be immortal but they all die in battle so we have never been able to test it.

There are a couple of examples of Heresy era marines being found in 30k but there were either in stasis or in a sus-an coma, a Luna Wolf found by the Flesh Tearers and a Salamander found by the Inquisition if I remember.

Its a bit of a moot point though, given that the overwelming majority of Astartes will die in the line of duty before they reach an age where infirmity becomes an issue, after all, attrition, especially in the HH is pretty high.

Unrelated, there was a Anon that was complaining that Aspyx shells were not issued to other legions last bread, while at the same time complaining that its more common with the Tsons then the far more common seeker ammo is with other legions.

The reason is simple. Its not just about numbers, its about the production capability, given that said ammo, which due to its psyker nature, would only be produced on perhaps a handful of worlds outside of Prospero. Now consider that the amounts of munitions expanded by the Legiones Astartes are truly massive, you will see that there are some issues with this. For Comparison, in Operation Desert Storm, the US fired off some 223.000 tonnes of munitions.
Anon's reasoning of 100 rounds per Marine goes wrong the moment you factor in the speed of ammo consumption.
to arm a 1000 marines, you'd need to have 100.000 rounds of special ammo. that is true, but fails to factor in combat operations, refills and other logistical issues.
Assuming that the warfare in the far future is roughly the same as it is today, (basing this off the French, due to lack of better information on my part) its not that hard to fire off 120 rounds in an engagement, especially in the kind of battles that the Legiones Astartes wage, ammo consumption is far higher then Anon stated.

Given the above, the actual amount produced will be more akin to 500.000 rounds PER DAY, given you want to compensate for shipping problems, stockpiling and other contingencies.
The Reason why the Tsons have the ammo in the quantities that they did is likewise, relatively simple. According to Inferno, the Tsons operated relatively close to Prospero, which manufactured the stuff in quantity, which pretty much negates the biggest bottleneck.

Pairing up with a tartaros praetor and primus medicae and a couple of dreads.

It's fairly points sink, but I like the fluff for heavy void assault.

>but he benefits greatly from having a Spartan scout move up the table and take attention away from him.
how does the spartan scount? only non-vehcles have LA(AL)

I'm pissed at how they pieced him together. Hood is mandatory, face is pain in the ass to swap and fit, retarded stovepipe backpack is mandatory due to sword, shoulder pad can't be swapped due to quarter cloak.

It's one thing to make all the new plastics mono pose but it's another to make them basically half snapfit in how they fucking go together.

+1 for BoP paint guide being broken

Yeah, that'll help. I'm sure someone who reads some autistic passive-aggressive rant in the OP won't just start shitposting stupid questions to trigger you faggots.

>>52037462
>can identify shitposting
>can ignore shitposting
>gets triggered by dumb questions, which totes aren't shitposting because he only gets triggered by genuine questions, not shitposting

What colour were World Eaters during the Heresy?
>>
>>52042086
They recruited from planets all over the place, some were white, there's also canonically a black guy with dreadlocks.

>40k xenos

REaly fine with it, we should have more!

Is there any particular correlation between the mark of the armor and helmet eye/lense color? Or can I just go nuts about it?
>>
>>52041205
Aren't those Sisters in the Rhino? They look like they got slightly smaller bases and two-handed swords.

Fat chance of 30k Sisters getting Rhinos. Or Custodes getting LRs.
>>
>>52042121
Nope, go nuts. It correlates to legion, not armour mark, but even then it's pretty inconsistent.

>>52042159
30k sisters have the dildomobile, which is superior to the rhino in every way except points cost.
>>
>>52042181
I love me sum dildoemobile, but it's always good to have options. Marines get Rhinos even when Land Raiders are the superior option. It'd also be a more effective way of moving a whole lot of Sisters across the table who don't need to be assaulting the enemy when they disembark. For the price of a dildoemobile, you could have a little over 3 Rhinos for 3 squads.

If it was a dedicated transport then the Spartan can scout if the unit it is bought for picked scout and started inside it

Is there a consensus on base sizes for converting stuff with no official model? Need a good few Magi, plus a whole bunch of Militia Levies. Can I have my Archmagos on the 105x70 oval base, or does he have to be on the fancy Abeyant? For the lesser Magos, can I just go with 40/50mm that I have lying around, or what?
>>
>>52042459
I'm using 40's for all my magii, although cawl is tempting.
>>
>>52042483
I actually don't want it for Cawl, I was just going to make a substitute for him anyway since that mini is way overdone and fragile, and he may as well double as my Archimandrite if I'm going to the trouble of making him a custom body.

I'm fluffing up an absolute edgy dick of a Knight Errant who will constantly be at odds with my Dark Angels Praetor. The DA is supposed to be the better character who has at least some concerns about collateral damage and the KE just cares about the objective and enjoys the violence in doing so.

Imagine if a traitor was hiding in a building surrounded by human shields, the DA would conduct a raid to minimise civilian casualties while the KE will just fill the building with phosphex or send a Medusa battery to flatten it.

I have a couple of rough ideas for a legion, either a Terran Raven Guard or a Night Lord fit the bill quite well but does anyone have any further ideas about his origins? I don't want him held back by autism (Iron Warriors/Hands), irrational anger (World Eaters) or any thing that would cause him to duel for his honour and obviously having a boner for phosphex and stuff rules out things like Salamanders too.
>>
>>52042841
Death Guard exist, man. They fit the bill fairly well, given that's literally their standard operating procedure.
>>
Given the way that Tsons Cult rules work, would Raptora Breachers actually be worth their points now?

Not to join in on the side of the ranting elitist, but this is one of those questions that not only betrays you've barely read either any novels or black books, but have a "I haven't thought for myself about this for longer than 4 seconds" mindset.
I hope you're doing a subtle troll.

If not, hi, welcome, pls show your models and share your army fluff whenever, those things are always good.

There are actually small cameras mounted on the shields so their vision is not obscured.
