Talismonger edition.
Where do you go when you need some magical stuff, or want some objects examined?
Are you a regular customer or do you just follow the mage or adept?
>>
>>52014336
I visit Constantine Aurelius, the eccentric Canadian mage who thinks they are a reincarnated Roman senator. Is permanently annoyed that his home-grown Seattle grapes make shitty wine.

Don't drink his wine. You either wake up wearing a toga with your flaccid dick shoved in a roast pigs head, or you go on a metaplaner trip to randomdiceroll.
>>
I wanted my talismonger to be an Irish lady who's a front for the IRA, funneling money back home. But I wasn't sure if she'd even deal with an elf, or if she wouldn't just send material like foci to the fight instead

Quick question because I have my game in 3 hours and I forgot to research this: are there any mid or high class restaurants/bars that are friendly to trolls?
>>
>>52014924

In the Seattle area, district doesn't matter
>>
>>52014924
>friendly to trolls?
you mean "cater to trolls/are nice to trolls" or "accept trolls"?
Because I can't think of any of the first but I'm pretty sure there are many of the second as long as the troll is dressed nicely, doesn't smell too bad and behaves
If not and you are (as I think) the GM then just make one up. There's gonna be at least one of the second, maybe even one of the first kind

>Drones can only have armor 3 x their body before becoming encumbered

I hope they work like vehicles in that they're unaffected by stun damage.
They probably do but I want to build a big tanky ass drone with a shield, so I want to make sure it can actually do its job.
>>
>>52015097
They do work like vehicles, they can't get stun damage but electric damage becomes physical.
>>
>>52015139
Excellent news.
Now where the hell am I gonna hide a big ass tanky anthro drone...
Ah well, issues for a future rigger.
>>
>>52015002

Either? I was going to sit down with the 2072 Seattle book but I don't have the time now. I guess I'm just going for a restaurant that would have troll accommodations in the middle or high lifestyle range.
>>
So I actually dug out the rules for inventing Magic Drugs from Street Grimoire, and I am really conflicted.

On one hand, the formula is multi-use, and depending on what reagent you end up rolling, potentially not that expensive to produce. And you get the Critter Powers table, which has some fairly incredible effects for you to poach.

On the other hand, month-long Circulation, which means that running during that time is a awkward, since you have to make it back to the lab to keep tending the potion every eight hours.

Hiring someone to perform the Circulation for you is gonna be cripplingly expensive, so you can't really bypass that part by having a hireling do it.

I dunno, the end result of being able to create alchemical suppositories that give Hardened Armor 8 is pretty enticing, but you gotta jump through a LOT of hoops to get there.

FWIW it doesn't really need to be big or anything. Just keep in mind you're spending potentially over a million nuyen on something designed for the sole purpose of getting destroyed. Unless you get really creative there's better (and cheaper) ways to protect yourself in a straight up fight.

Just exploring my options at the moment. I'm sure I'll find a balance between style and function.

Trying to wrap my head around RCC rules. I know how to jump into a drone and what that affects. The problem comes when I want to issue commands to several drones at once. The bare basics I know is that issuing more than one command to several drones means my die pool gets split up accordingly for each other, action? That and the drones use the autosofts of my RCC (or their own) to do things.
I've barely looked at decker rules though and it seems I'll need them to command drones in this manner. And that's a whole confusing kettle of fish. I know that owning a device means you have four marks on it. I spend those marks to give commands to my drones, right? Then how do I get marks back? Am I going full retard and over-complicating things?
(I'm aware of swarm programs but those seem simpler since it's one command across a whole fleet of drones.)
>>
>>52015322
some times the thing that costs a million is really good at killing everything before it can be taken out. Like main battle tanks, you don't build something with a notion of losing.
>>
>>52015225
Speaking from personal experience working audiotech in a few restaurants around my county, including some real snazzy ones: So long as your troll books their table in advance, most restaurants will go a reasonable distance (specialised seating for one) to make sure your troll is comfortably sat down and enjoying his meal. If anything, they'll be slightly more lenient than other establishments since a troll customer is gonna be asking - and paying - for larger portions of food. Really, your biggest problem is either gonna be trying to get a table without a booking, in which case good luck dealing with the pickiness of whoever's manning the front door, or another customer raising a stink about a troll eating in the same establishment as he is. Either way, a nice suit, a polite tone and flashing lots of cash will get you into most restaurants that your average goob can book a table at with their savings. Once you get to the top-end stuff, it's more about who you know than who you are, but that's more for luxury lifestyles.

Rigger 5.0 also mentions a bar frequented both by Evo junior-execs and employees of metahuman corp Krime, so keep that in mind.

Problem is a drone isn't going to be able to take things out nearly as effectively as say, a streetsam. Sure you'd hopefully get it out before it gets destroyed but the fact that it's a drone means that it's all or nothing when it goes down.

You're just overcomplicating it. You don't have to spend marks to use the Control Device action. The marks are just a prerequisite, and since you're the owner it doesn't matter.

Additionally, if you're commanding a group of devices you own to all do the same thing, you don't need to split your pool

So, GMs of /srg/ (all 3 of you)
How do you deal with plots?
Do you deliberately construct an enemy they'll have to fight through runs?
Do you make a big conflict and have the runners decide which side they'll support and how each decision will affect them?
Or do you just throw out some minor runs and see what sticks?
>>
>>52017156
This seems to be more of a general GMing question than a SR specific one.

1) I just make some consistent defense/hazards, if my players manage to avoid them, go them creativity, if they try to trigger each one with their face by beign careless, it's a learnign experience.

2)Most runners will either try to form their own side and try to get what they can out of any given conflict or will ignore it till some side starts paying them, then it's gain vs risk

3) Mostly yeah. But that does not mean that one can't weave in an larger plot into it.

I craft my plots in a semi-gamey way.
I usually have an overaching plot that will advance and the Players have the chance to interact with it and influence it heavily. The plot in itself has different actors that want different things and the players have free reign to have any impact they so wish on that plot.

Often I try to make player plot coalesce with my plot to create more cinematic scenes. I let them decide what runs they want to take and what objectives they want to undertake and then I find ways to mesh it with my plot over the span of several runs. It usually comes in the form of breadcrumbs my PCs inevitably follow.

All in all it's like a big game of chess put in front of the players, the can take either the whites or the blacks or they can be the hidden hand that moves both.

What if spells were more open ended instead of each spell being a specific effect, and getting more hits lets you do more with it?

For example, some pyro can just fuck with heat instead of getting flamethrower, fireball, ignite, and napalm. He rolls one hit and he can raise the temperature in the room a few degrees. If he gets a lot of hits he can make any of the fire-themed spells or something like that.

Or a dude that messes with his body can mess with his attributes like the spell with a low number of hits and flat out become other critters with a high number of hits.

It's not a great idea because it essentially makes lower magic mages worthless. If your spell effect depends on number of hits you lose the whole idea of mages doing big Force spells at the cost of their own body.

I do think that maybe they should group spells together more isntead of creating this mess of a spells list.
>>
>>52019478
Thoughts on how it would be implemented are exactly what I'm looking for. Good thing you're not the only person who posts on /srg/ then.

I'm sure there is at least one other person here who hates vancian magic as much as I do.
>>
>>52019514
That grouping thing is really my bigger concern. I always hated when spells do very specific things.
>>
>>52019493

The spell that goes out of its way to say that it has problems with fine control, and you're going to use it on peoples junk? Not the best plan.

>>52019517

But Shadowrun doesn't use vancian magic.
>>
>>52019578
One of the "rules" or whatever of vancian magic is that spells are each a specific effect.

In Shadowrun Flamethrower is just a stream of fire and Fireball is just a ball of fire, and you can't just make one into the other. You have to learn both spells separately.
>>
>>52019650

Fulfilling one criteria of a thing when there is multiple criteria, does not make a thing that thing.
>>
>>52019676
Well then what should I call it, enlightened master of going off topic to correct people on shit no one else cares about?
>>
>>52019750

Predefined spell effects? You know, actually saying the thing you dislike about the Shadowrun spell system, rather than using a word that means describes a range of things that not everyone is guaranteed to know about since this is a Shadowrun thread and Shadowrun doesn't use vancian magic?

Also on the note of implementation, you would have to completely change the spell casting system, probably making it a two roll system, which will further complicate it on top of the additional complication that such wildly varying spell effects would produce. Its also a massive change to the lore of the world, do you have any plans on addressing that?
>>
>>52019874
lol hell no

The game has enough crunch as it is. I was never going to actually do anything it was just an idea that popped into my head and I was wondering what others thought of it.

Muscle replacement at 4 with Restricted gear
Wired Reflexes or Synaptic boosters at 2 (Remember that WR can stack with reaction enhancers so if you have low Reaction it might be a good idea.
Dermal plating and some cybereyes.

That's your typical cyberware sam build. Very low essence but you cover the basics.

You can check out cyberarms if you like the flavour of em', they add a lot of utility if you kit them properly, plus they add armor and Physical boxes.

Bioware thought, you'll get a lot more bang but not at chargen because your buck is limited. Synthcardium, Reflex records, Suprathyroid gland, muscle enhancer/toner.

if you want to go raiden, go cyberware.

Mostly that they are very resource intensive to get them comparable to even the dinkiest of assault rifles. They are novel and they do have situational uses. They are silent, their ammo is retrievable (and thus reusable) and tougher to track through forensics. Plus they aren't as heavily policed since they are "sport" weapons. However a character who has the strength to use any bow that is worth a damn would be better off using literally any actual firearm since their strength allows them to better resist the effects of recoil.

Two simple actions to load and fire, gotta have 10 STR to even get close to being as effective as firearms, alternate arrowheads aren't great, and you don't really get a lot of choice or versality for the skill-investment, whereas the various firearms-skills all give you a pretty decent selection of goodies.

It's not *terrible* with the right build, they're silent and ammo is reusable most of the time but you're still gonna be seriously gimped compared to firearm users. Only invest in it if you're seriously dedicated to the flavor and don't mind being lagged behind the gunslingers in your group. Not terrible as a flavorful ranged-backup for an Ork or Troll melee adept, mind you.

If I remember right, If your character charges at a guy, the melee attacker gets a +2 for charging while the ranged defender gets a -2 for trying to hit a moving target. Additionally, the melee attacker gets bonuses for stuff like outnumbering and weapon reach

Can someone explain me how cyberlimbs work, for example this chummer screenshot, I have natural 3 str then between parenthesis there's 5 and then in each arm I have 9, so my understanding is for general strength tasks that use the whole body I have 5 and then for attacks with only the arms I use my 9 strength (plus whatever the weapon has).
Also how does it work for agility? I put some cyberlegs with full agility and my walking rate didn't go up, only if upgrade the base stat does go up.
>>
>>52026989
Because you're retarded and you probably have the cyberlimb option work so that it goes Arm+Arm+Torso+Head+Leg+Leg instead of cutting out the head, and because you only have arms and not legs, so it's averaging it together. If you were to use them with just the arms actually in use, it'll use the full 9.
>>
>>52025960
here is the problem
most "chrome" is made of polymers, carbon and very little metal. Bonelacing is the most metal you can get on metahuman and even then its aluminium/titanium, both nonmagnetic.

>>52026989
Doesn't augmented maximum of +4 prevent you from getting cyberlimbs with 9 str, if you have 3 str?
>>
>>52027369
Cyberlimbs go off of your Metatype maximum and augmented maximum, not your own personal ones.
>>
>>52027382
Lets be real here, though.

If you tried to take some weak as fuck guy and bolt on an arm that was 9 times stronger than him, it'd literally rip itself off his body when he tried to use it.

You should have to have the actual stat at the rating of your cyberlimb, or take physical damage when you use it.

Maybe allow an Edge test to avoid it.
>>
>>52027382
Really? On p.94 in core I can only see
>[...]can only receive an augmentation bonus of up to +4.

Nah, not really.
>>
A direct neural interface, or DNI, connects your brain to
electronic devices. Direct neural interface (along with a sim
module) is required for VR use, but DNI is also useful for AR
in that you don’t need any additional gear like earbuds or an
image link to see or hear augmented reality objects.
How do you sign up? You get DNI by wearing trodes, or
having an implanted datajack, commlink, or cyberdeck. And if
you’re using a sim module along with your DNI, you can get a
sort of “super AR mode” where you can also feel, smell, and
taste your AR experience.

Core rulebook, p. 222

So how does this work if I have a datajack/control rig? I just... automatically see things in AR even without cybereyes? Does this mean I can send messages with my head too or does that require an actual implanted commlink?
>>
>>52027603
Yup, as long as you have a DNI to your comlink you can use AR without additional tools
Also you can send messages with your mind as long as you are connected to it.
>>
>>52027603
>I just... automatically see things in AR even without cybereyes?

Yes. What happens is that your 'jack or rig recieves the signals from the Matrix arounds you and injects any relevant one straight into your brains so you can see them.

>Does this mean I can send messages with my head too?
No. Sending a message is a Matrix action. To perform a Matrix action you need to be connected trough a device giving you a persona. (Comlink/Deck/RCC/device modded to allow it). If you have such a device and your 'jack/trodes/rig is connected to it, then sure, you just need to think at the machine.
>>
>>52018492
Depends, if your a mage or technomancer, that's fine you shouldn't be gun slinging anyway.
If your a gun adept, I'd go with two pistols and split your fire when you shoot. Go full Neo with that shit.
If your a cyborg, make sure that's just a side arm. Have a long arm or assault rifle as your primary weapon.
And remember pistols are always good because you can easily sneak them into places and most of them you can get licenses for.
>>
>>52027418
>If you tried to take some weak as fuck guy and bolt on an arm that was 9 times stronger than him, it'd literally rip itself off his body when he tried to use it.

That idea is already represented as the metatype maximum for cyberlimb customization.

If you also have the physical sneaking chops, consider direct connection all the time and running Smoke-and-Mirrors at full power.

If you can't sneak well enough, then limit it to less than what you can cancel with Noise Reduction in your current situation. And then jack it back up afterwards. (This is easier with Perfect Timing, but doesn't need it.)

No sense taking a penalty that could get you spotted, after all.

This could mean my Ranraku Tsurugi's low-3 could be thrown onto sleaze and I'd still have a respectable 8 for getting shit done and still have two fives and a six for my other matrix attributes, or put the six into Sleaze and bump it up to eleven for maximum clusterfuck (twelve if I run the Stealth program alongside).

Because Cold is a garbage elemental effect. They need to roll zero hits on their armour test for the cold effect to take place, so literally anything thicker than a t-shirt and they're fine. Mathhammered, you'd need to attack 83 people in armoured jackets before you got lucky and broke one.

Electricity is the best option for Body, because of the debuff. If someone is hitting you in melee, odds are they are a melee combatant (or you fucked up and stood next to some schmuck but didn't annihilate him with your own attack). Taking an IP away from the dude trying to stab you is incredibly useful, and it works on high-soak targets as well.

Electric Strike and Body means that anyone who gets within arm's reach is fucked irredeemably.

Question for y'all:

I'm running a campaign now - party's got a sniper/summoner/face, a troll "i punch things good" adept, a decker, a medic, and a mage powergamer who understands the system far better than everyone else. Now, I've given most everybody at least a few moments to shine - except for the troll. I don't know what I can give the troll that can't be accomplished by the sniper, or (more accurately) any of the various spirits or mind control magic the party can summon. Do you guys have any suggestion for a run that would give the troll adept the spotlight that wouldn't seem contrived? (ie. having the run take place in some "no spirits allowed" zone or something like that).
>>
>>52030373
Datajack and a good E. Warfare roll can also help add to that in emergencies.

(If you need to know what I mean, Rigger 5.0 formally turned the RCC ability to roll E. Warefare and reduce Noise into a regular Matrix action. So anyone can do it. RCCs are just slightly better at it.)
>>
>>52030550

What can the troll do besides punching things?
>>
>>52030374
Okay, so do you own the drone, or have been given 3 marks by the actual owner? If yes, you're golden. Just take the action and start making your hot-sim VR bonused, noise penaltied actions like semi-normal.

Are you not? Well, then you've got to somehow get the three marks. It's really hard to have a good Sleaze or Attack rating, so hope you have an outside helper, or a lot of edge.
>>
>>52030707

>>
>>52030550
Have them suffer a chemical trap (gas or drugs) at the end of a run so the troll with his ridiculously high body rating is the last one standing and has to carry the rest of the party to safety?

Have a Johnson send them to a pharma corp where they get captured and used as lab rats. Put drug/restraints on the casters so they can't use magic so the only ways to escape would be to be tough enough to resist the drugs or just brute strength through the restraints?

Have your party hired by someone who wants a rare item, one of which happens to be the first prize of an underground fistfight/martial art tournament?

Have enemies throw the anti-spirit grenades from 4e at your party? Esprit 'petite brume' if I remember the name right

There's a bunch of thugs (dwarves and paid-by-Renraku legbreakers) coming to evict a bunch of orc grannies from a building.

Spirits can't pass through living earth, and the tunnels severely limit sniping opportunities. But when a squad of cybered-up dwarves with more iron in their bodies than a Warhammer Dwarf has on his body comes rushing down a narrow tunnel, it's time to play Whack-a-Mole.

The thing is that the Advanced Alchemy stuff doesn't take that long. Making Orichalcum does, but Advanced Alchemy (which lets you give out spell-like abilities and Critter Powers), only takes a few minutes if you've got the reagents already ready.

And if he was talking about Advanced Alchemy in his post, then it only takes a handful of minutes once you've refined your reagents, and while the refining process does take a good bit of time, but they can also be purchased if you don't mind leaving a bit of a paper trail.

The actual product will take less than ten minutes, max. (Only because there's a small number of those powers you'd want at such high levels, and even then you're going to have to deal with the side-effects for an equally long amount of time. And some of them kinda suck.)

Quilty, the 50-something Renraku exec with an obsession with humanlike drones from a failed marriage that made him think he can never hope to have children (he's just afraid of fucking up) and compensates through running with Realistic Features 4 anthroform drones in order to somehow compensate for the child that will never be. His internal logic takes hundreds of words to explain.
Grungie, a physad who looks like he stepped straight out of 1994, who quit a life smoking weed and sleeping on friends' couches because a girl he liked was "stolen away" by a Mitsuhama drone (they'd agreed beforehand that she could marry if she wanted to because he was a financial drain, but his memory is selective).
Jonesy, the middle-aged housewife with a Humanis past who was saved by her successful daughter's life insurance when her husband (eclipsed by their daughter and going mad with shame) decided to try to kill her in a double suicide, then turned to "fixing" the streets because the high-grade bioware needed to save her also made her feel like a monster who couldn't go back to her old life.
Tool, the nerdy elf cybernetics student with fantastic skill but abysmal social and cooperative skills, who was rejected by Ares (he is a sperg, given) enough times to make him bolt a huge cyberarm with an internal shotgun onto himself and seek revenge.
I write too much and play too little.

Not the guy you're replying to, but full-body cybernetics and then hacking the cybernetics bundle's transmitter to broadcast it as an iDoll.
You could also fluff that as his cybernetics actually being a repurposed iDoll operated in piece by piece. It would probably get Shiawase mad either way just because they don't want runners giving them a bad name.

Keep in mind that a 'full' cyberbody is not a full cybernetic replacement. You'll still have all your limbs and such, the cybertorso and skull are just invasive scaffolding.

Fraggin Greg, seen here bottom left.
Real name Greginald Chen-Van der Woud. He was not a popular man at any point in his life. Our team was full of hard gangers, ex-Firewatch, Vory hitmen, etc. and here's this fragging fat bald chain smoking troglodyte mouthbreather who won't shut up about some new sim Ares has been hocking. He also had fixed lens cybereyes, which made it unnerving to talk to him since you don't know where he's looking. At least he was some kind of idiot savant at rigging. It's good, but the main OVAs are generally considered the most worthwhile.
It really has a sense of grit that most Shadowrun games seem to lack - a central part of a lot of good cyberpunk is properly showing exactly how fucked-up society is getting, why it's getting that way and why people aren't stopping it.
There's a severe shortage of cyberpunk that goes into the details of the bread and circuses at work in the setting, not to mention politics and even law enforcement, and Armitage III manages to create a sense of a world gone honestly wrong and not just the real world with megacorps plopped in.

Get Hayek sheets from pastebin, read moar, make players read section for the thing they want to play (the mage needs to know the magic rules, etc), stay clear of technomancers for first-time players but deckers are fine, don't listen to the hate, SR is a terrible idea for people new to tabletop gaming and virgin GMs because the rules are denser than plutonium and more confusing than deep memes, etc.

>I'm thinking of doing a campaign in Las Vegas revolving around an ex-prostitute trying to establish a brothel, securing a location, deeds, permits, workers, security, reputation, etc.

Pretty low stakes famalam. Unless this woman is actively fighting against the corporate/mob cartels that control Las Vegas, this is the basis for a single run to smooth out a rough patch, not the basis of a campaign.

Depends on what you use it for. If it's literally going to be at your heels the entire time, it doesn't really matter. The plus is that you can put points into Pilot Groundcraft and know how to drive the car carrying your drone and meatsuit out of there.

The rotodrone is just default because it's easy to mod (with BOD counting as 3 higher for mods and parts readily available per fluff) and because flying can be used in a bunch of ways if you get creative with it.

What exactly does magical research involve in Shadowrun? I have a Drake who's letting herself be science'd by a kabal of mages in exchange for their protection.

Aside from what I came up with (Detailed observation of her aura and the astral signatures she creates when she Shifts, which she'd be asked to do repeatedly, back and forth), what sort of experiments might be being run on her during her off-hours?

Also, obviously, 'dissection' and the like are off the table. They only have one Drake guinea pig, they're not going to kill her out of hand.Plus, you know, I'd rather my character not die.

Hey /srg/, Its 8-player GM anon again. I have two questions: How does Life module compare to Point Buy as far as character balance goes in 5e? Also, what is a good amount of Karma for PB to get a more Paramilitary feel?
>>
>>52038743
By the looks of it Life Modules just make more rounded, less specialised/minmaxed characters.

Isn't there an option in Point Buy for advanced runner generation?
>>
>>52038743
I'm assuming all of this is 5e
Life Modules are not that unbalanced compared to karma gen, since unless you go out of your way to minmax modules (that will be pretty obvious), you still need to pay the karma cost for the higher attributes and skills. The main downside of Life Modules, is that in an 8 player game, it will be kind of hard to make characters distinct themselves from eachother. Karmagen and Life Modules reward generalization, and the larger the group the more common ground everyone will have, and step on eachother toes constantly.
Life modules are good for starting up in Shadowrun, since they give a bit on insight on who your character is while building him up, but not great if you know what you want and feel the system is not helping. And if you know your players won't go full abusive, they have an understanding of the system, and you would rather if they were a more mixed breed instead of 4 generics and 4 specialists, Sum-to-10/11 lets them get what they want.
For a more paramilitary theme, I would increase the karma-to-money ratio and increase availability. Or give them a group budget, so they can afford stuff like choppers and assault cannons without costing into their 'ware.
>>
>>52038956
So for StT i would just increase the amount of money in each category to get the same result, right?

After chatting with him, he just needs a good concept to play. He's normally the Minmaxer to end all minmaxers, so I helped him make a GSA that was the hottest shit ever. I mean, it's what he wanted.

Turns out it's more boring to play than he thought, because there's less combat than he thought.

So back to the drawing board for concepts that I can translate to mechanics

I basically made most of my player's characters, because I am the only one who studied the system and had an interest.
>>
>>52040165
What is a GSA?
Also, if your players come with the idea of shooting their way through things, they have the wrong idea of Shadowrun. The game is about the Plan A, not Plan B. And even if you go full Pink Mowhawk, it's still about the crazy plans and how to make them work, no matter how shooting first ask questions later the team is.

You can always talk to your GM to retire the character and make a new one. If a players come saying "Hey, I feel like my character is just a bunch of combat stats and nothing else, can you help me fix it some way?" I would give him a hand. Even more if it's your first character.
Depending on how many sessions in, I would even let you do a "do-over" as long as you don't change your role in the party, and don't change the main 'flavor' behind it (Instead of a guy with a gun, you can be a guy with a gun that likes to sweetalk ladies and knows a bit fixing cars).

Making your first characters in shadowrun is hard mate, don't worry. My two first characters were a shirtless yakuza with a katana, and Daddy Yankee+Adam Jensen fucked up hybrid.

His character is obviously a devout "Catholic Assassin", taken as a young child under the care of a Church with ties with the local Mafia. He worked as a small errant boy and made his way up the criminal ladder, ending up working as the personal guard of the eldest daughter of the Montegraccio, a third rate family growing in size due to their magical blood. The daughter wanted to make some experiments on him in order to turn him into the perfect weapon, using some "powerful reagents" she got somewhere, and it awoke his sleeping dragon blood.
After a few struggles to control his new powers, he realizes he is a danger to the woman he has at his side, and feeling he would fail to protect her requests to work for the Father who raised him, an old Italian Covert-Ops leader, and starts to work the dirty deeds of both the Mafia and the Church.
Not long, he discovers a plot to remove the Montegraccio family to the last man, and decides to take matters into his own hands, working in the shadows to find contacts, money and experience; so he can be ready when the shadows come knocking to his door.

Actually, setting info is very confused on the subject. Vice 144 onwards is good for early 2070s info on organ legging, though.

>Of course, that’s not to say that the market is dead, it’s just a bit depressed. Type O isn’t always available—the corps probably under produce to keep prices from plummeting and it’s not biologically or economically wise to keep a large stock on hand. Those who have quality medical care aren’t hesitant to live a lifestyle that can destroy their organs—after all, they expect to get something back for their health care costs. Not everyone has good health care, and some of the people who have it don’t want it known that they’ve had to replace an organ.

Organlegging is still good for small time money, like a day job - it's often not dealing with people who have access to medcorps like DocWagon, but backstreet chopdocs who can't afford expensive and corp-controlled cloning tech, organlegging rings who muscle dying patients into taking hefty loans for pre-owned organs, etc. The shady stuff.

The cloning tech bit I got from 5e, though I can't quite find it right now.

Hrm. Anyone got an opinion on how spirit fettering would stack with the Spirit Whisperer quality?

>SPIRIT WHISPERER
>COST: 8 KARMA
>There is something about you that makes some spirits want to avoid you—while others seem oddly drawn to you. Spirits add 1 die when resisting Summoning Tests from characters with this quality. However, if the character succeeds in the test, the spirit summoned is always at 1 point of Force stronger than chosen. For all purposes, the character is considered to have summoned the spirit at the declared Force—it simply shows up at 1 point of Force higher than expected. Summoned spirits behave rather curiously toward the character, asking questions about the character’s past, though no amount of mastery can compel them to reveal why they are so curious and why they show up stronger than summoned (the gamemaster should play up this mystery; it could even be the basis of an eventual campaign)
---
>To fetter a spirit, a conjurer must perform a Binding ritual (see p. 300–301, SR5). In addition to the normal expenditure of reagents and time, the magician must give the spirit Force x 3 Karma and 1 point of his Magic attribute. In return, the spirit gains the Banishing Resistance power (p. 194). If the spirit breaks free (see Losing an Ally, p. 202), or is banished, destroyed, or voluntarily released, the conjurer regains his 1 point of Magic. On the other hand, if a magician with a fettered spirit loses the last point of his Magic attribute for any reason, the fettered spirit automatically departs and takes the last of the magician’s talent with it; the magician is then considered burned out and does not regain the 1 point of Magic the spirit borrowed.

Thing is, the mechanics of binding and fettering don't care what rating you summoned it the spirit at, they care about the actual force of the spirit. My reading says that that limit only really applies to the maximum force limit and the kind of drain you're facing.

Ok guys, I need your lore opinions on something i’m trying to make in my campaign.
A girl got cyber-implemented as fuck because of some dark corporate secret experiment (how unusual i know) but something went wrong ’cause a bunch of shadow runners rekt the shit out of the complex during the final phase and the girls is now an empty shell connected to a bunch of cables. Her essence is obviously gone but my scenario take place 10 years after those events and I want my players to visit this place an settle a very creepy, dark lab ambiance
And I’m thinking about about the fact that other experiments could have totally gone crazy and of course attack the chummers.
What I REALLY want to do is that theses crazy robot are corrupted by the essence of the girl and therefore act as different faces of here psyche, as a remnant of here, like they where corrupted by her essence or something like that. Is there a lore-friendly way to do it ?

SD&N first off seems to imply that Personasoft is the term, while PersonaFIX specifically refers to Personasofts that have Know/Active/Lingua softs loaded in with them, and sets prices for Personasofts in unlimited duration and timer-locked versions, as well as 'Cracked Personafixes', while not providing any suggestions for how much Skillsoft should be in a particular personafix. It also is where it says you can either black out for the duration of the personasoft and remember nothing, or have perception turned on and just observe as the personafix reacts to things, unable to interfere.

TH contradicts SD&N and the corebook by saying Personafixes are not BTL grade, but more on the level of over-the-counter moodchips, says that there are three grades of Personafix, the basic grade 'angel/devil on your shoulder' that advises and informs your choices but doesn't keep you from acting, Advanced Personafixes that are the kind where you can zonk out and are forced to act in-character without any say in the matter, and Extreme Personafixes which are the ones that have Skillsofts coded into them. EXCEPT SD&N says that most Personasofts come packaged with the Knowsoft and Linguasofts needed for the personality, so that sort of implies that the xTreme versions are for people who have skillwires and want to run activesofts too.

And then the sample Twilight Horizon 'softs are just... incomprehensible in their pricing. Two of the sample Xtreme P-fixes have a 600% discount on activesofts attached to them for no real reason.

Psionic tradition from Shadow Spells is both the tradition for enormous douchebags with less self-awareness than a cardboard cutout of a Kardashian, and a possession tradition.

Getting the scale right on decking is hard because you don't get a lot of practise to test out variables and the decker is always alone, so one bad roll bones them. Personally, I always go under than over, because it's better if the decker blows through security, feeling badass and getting the Matrix shit wrapped up fast, than the opposite.

Unfortunately, your mental limit looks like it's about 3.

>You have a 12 DV on your data spike!
>Your enemy blocks it
>Take 12DV!
:^) - CGL
Biggest issue, IMHO. Matrix combat almost encourages you to have a lower DV because it's less risky to you.
>>
>>52045157
Honestly, if you're going up against something that can get 12 net hits over your die pool, you shouldn't be taking it on.

Of course, if it was just bad luck, hopefully you still have some edge for a re-roll to lower that down some.

>>52045321
I think he meant that he attacked with a 12 DV data spike. The attack was blocked and thus he had to deal with the reflected Attack

Yeah, but the damage on a failed attack action is based on the net hits the defender got, not the damage you were going to do. (See p. 231.)

So to take 12 DV from a failed Data Spike action, they had to beat your roll by 12 hits more than what you rolled.

Now I get to inform my DM that he read the matrix rules wrong. Thanks, anon.

NP. Just remember, the only time that a bigger rating (on your end) is bad for you is if you think you're going to need to scrub a Resonance signature.

Then it's worse, but on the plus side Resonance signatures aren't nearly as obvious as a Magic one.

Is Cool Resolve as broken as it looks?

Because it looks pretty fucking broken.

>>52046474
No. It's expensive for what it does compared to a rank of Authoritative Tone and Kinesics.

>>52046586
It's +1 to ALL your social skills, and it's not capped at +3 though.
>>
>>52046642
Yes, at a cost of 1PP per rank. That adds the fuck up.
>>
>>52046642
Think about it like this. That price brings it almost in line with Improved Reflexes, which is about as strong a power as you can pay for.
