Thus far in the process, changed it up a little bit.

Primed Black
Base Coat Magnus the Red Warplock bronze
wash with nihalak oxide
Dry brush Magnus the Red Warplock Bronze
Dry Brush Sycorax Bronze
lightly wash with nuln oil

I didn't expect the nuln oil to bring out the purple hues in the Magnus the Red Warplock Bronze.

Am pleasantly surprised.

A fine choice in Legion and Primarch!

The ZM Legion, Toxins and Terminators, suitably grimdark tragedy for the Primarch, some important and interesting Captains, Horus's most reliable lieutenant Primarch, decent but not OP as fuck, etc.
>>
>>51998589
Doesn't have to be normal oxidization. Could be a reaction to some chemical weapon that had been used by either side while on campaign.
>>
>>51998604
Do we really need more DG players?
>>
>>51998589
Maybe it doesn't oxidise per se, but it does deteriorate when exposed to all the chemicals present in the galaxy.
We do have confirmation the Destroyer's munitions darken and corrode their plate, so they just paint it black.

I don't know, next to NL players, they seem to be really productive in getting models done.

Black shields, here is a comparison between a model that has made it to step 4 vs 6.

The force is being fluffed as 2nd generation Thunder Warriors, a new breed made from Arik's geneseed developments, most closely related to World Eaters in terms of gene siring.

In my mind, its supposed to emphasize lesser materials being used in the construction of the power armor.

Perhaps it isn't ceramite, but an alloy that has been cut with weaker minerals that can in fact, oxidize.

I may have responded too late in the other thread - I lamented that your characters weren't in Tartaros, but model availability is the problem there. Get as many turn 1 pods as you can for that RoW.
>>
>>51998572
This is going to sound dumb and autistic, but based on the description of the Kharon, >>51988127, it should be black and/or shiny.

Also you will either not see it coming, or you'll be fearful of it.
>>
>>51998713
MKIII's production process was strapping additional plates to MKII power armor.

The premise of MKIII was to provide a solution to the MKII's difficult to replace layered plating while increasing the armors viability in Zone Mortalis engagements.

In my mind, if you have the base power armor, strapping additional plating to it and creating MkIII armor seems more tenable than producing MKII armor.

Really, despite MKIV being produced as a ramshackle of different MK's, MKIII would probably be easiest to produce as a byproduct of the minimal differences between MKIII and MKII.

If you want faster AND better, your best option is to eat the brains of an MKA member and learn their secrets. They seem to have some clever airbrush-dependent technique that's relatively quick but also faster than brush painting. Probably based on zenithal highlighting but they pull it off really well.

With a brush, no, you're screwed. Especially with white. One option is to do a very dark wash over the gray primer and then spray almost-white over it. The wash will show through as pre-shading. Or just start with almost-white, wash, then highlight once. Won't look as good but it'll be faster. Basically the Duncan way - look up how to paint WE or WS on the Warhammer TV Youtube channel.
>>
>>51998778
>twin-linked storm shield
3++ rerollable predators? I'll only allow that if you literally make the hull out of shields. Ogryn shield plates, smaller Custodes ones for the diagonal panelling, etc.

Now I want someone to photoshop that.
>>
>>51998752
That does operate under the assumption that the force began with MKII power armor. In my case, blackshields logistics is tricky, somewhere between fixing their gene cancer and making it offworld, they obtained 150-400 suits of MKII power armor for their equivalent force.

Assuming geneseed cultivation takes somewhere between 2-4 standard months and beginning with four functioning Thunder Warrior Gene Seeds (optimistic), obtaining 256 suits of MKII over the course of sixteen months isn't too unreasonable.
>>
>>51998832
Sixteen months would be the amount of time it would take (Assuming cultivation periods are accurate) for the gene seed to replicate a total of 256 times. With rapid implantation and pyscho indoctrination astartes where being churned out in about nine months after initial implantation?

We are looking at 25 months to create a force of 256 Thunder warriors. Nice! Logistically viable, assuming there weren't too many hick ups in resource acquisition.

Mix of model restrictions and I like the look of cataphratcii armor. For the apothecary model, I just have the one GW stores were selling for a while. Dreadclaw or vanilla pods?
>>
>>51998888
Arik talks about cultivation time during Outcast dead, (I think) Fabius Bile does as well during the Fulgrim Horus Heresy novels.

Also, within the Space Marine Codex they go over the entire process of space marine production, it also gets covered in some of the Horus Heresy source material, the Iron Warriors fluff talks about implantation and geneseed cultivation as well.
>>
>>51998831

Shield bits are cheap enough to do that. Hell, I'm tempted to do that and just grab a cheap predator off ebay and go at it.
>>
>>51998881

>>
>>51998919
I'm pretty sure cultivation is the process of turning a mature, harvested progenoid into the 19 implants that will be put into a new marine. Not the act of maturing a progenoid to make a new progenoid. Otherwise, what is the 5 and 10 year progenoid maturation process?

That's a stupid recipe. Pallid wych flesh is a terrible paint. One of the very worst GW made.

Just get primer white, a thinned coat of Ulthuan grey, and then use wash of choice, sepia, black or brown.

This WS is white primer, uthuan grey, AP sepia soft tone wash, then cleanup with Ulthuan grey.

Good work design team.

Also, I guess it's kind of interesting to see what Emps's sword does in 40k, although it'll almost certainly have different rules in 30k if custards and sisters are any indication.
>>
>>51998957
Those additional implants are independent of the Geneseed. The Geneseed is required to orchestrate the overall change from regular human to Astartes.

That is why you can't just implant a human with all the different implants and have a space marine, without the geneseed the implants would kill the implantee.

>>51998904
Vanilla pods can’t carry Terminators. I was thinking Dreadclaws for units of 5, but your characters+squad will need a Kharybdis. If you take one each, you’ll have three pods (including the Leviathan’s) so you’ll get two on turn 1.

While you are correct, you're using words badly.
It would be 'regulate' rather than orchestrate, and geneseed is not a word that is interchangeable with progenoid glands in all phrases, which you would have been better off using.
>>
>>51998956
>>51998979
They didn't show his generic special rules, but it's assumed to be the same as 30k primarchs.
>>
>>51999016
That's...not at all true though. A mature progenoid is broken open and the inside of it (ie. the geneseed) is used to grow all 19 implants from the progenoid. They are not independent. And in fact the progenoid is the second to last implant, meaning a recruit spends approximately six years without its supposed regulatory capability.

Of course, I'm just saying he's bigger than I expected. Guilliman's scale fools me, since he's sitting a bit in the back and has a tiny kopinsky head.
Belisarius' head looks (is?) bigger than Roboute's, so he looks as if he was just shy of 3 meters tall even when hunched, as opposed to Guilliman's 2.4m/8ft

And I like my Magi as big as my Sisters looking pissed off.

Yeah, Cawl is enormous - note the size of the marine next to him here.
I haven't seen him next to Guilliman's model, what with that not being out, but there's a LOT of magos there - he's been tinkering with himself for about 10000 years, after all.

Am I going to regret asking why the Emissary of the Ynead is at G-man's crowning?

I presume it's the eldar trying to plot things and also get on the good side of someone they know can actually plan assaults on craftworlds that succeed?
>>
>>52000817
>Is that title still in use?

Yes it is, though its not very favored due to the implications of the Horus Heresy so they also use Lord Solar as an alternative to the same rank.
>>

If I'm not mistaken, the title warmaster ended up being changed to Lord Solar or something of the sort, they did try removing that title though

This. I remember Macharius' official title was Warmaster, but everybody called him Lord Solar because Horus ruined the title for everyone.

He'll be just Guilliman, Lord Commander of the Imperium

Yes and no, in that pic the IC on the tamiya pot, the 2 terminators and the 2 dudes behind him were all by brush.
The 4 torsos of the dudes at the front, and the Rhino, were a rattlecan. Arms, heads etc are all with brush.
You just need to thin it a little if brushing and find your sweet amount on the brush. Takes 2 coats. Your gold basecoat needs to be completely solid or imperfections show through.
This does mean you can add shading on top of the gold before you do the red.
I tried putting some black on the rhino before the red for dirt etc, but it was too dark, so did it again with just the red, I'll just weather on top the same colour as my army bases I guess.

I'm not a skilled painter so take my advice with as many grains of salt as necessary, but if you can't use an airbrush and want to go metallic, tamiya clear/translucent red over gold gives the desired effect, I think.

Don't know about you, but personally I can't read other people's dreams. Seems to be a rare talent.

Trying currently to come up with design ideas for all my Biologis Magi and Archmagi.

Need an Archimandrite, who's probably going to be a big cyborg fleshy monster with some Admech head+body built in somewhere.

Axiarch, who'll be an uparmoured Skitarii Alpha with a couple weapons, not complicated.

Magos Reductor, who'll be a floating thing in a tank like a Dune Navigator, since I want one Magos who's a little crazy.

Scoria, who's the Draykavac body and head on a Necron Scorpion body like pic related, but with smoother armour panels and a few more insane cables around the place, because greenstuff.

Two Domini, who'll be regular FW or GW Domini with a few seperate parts and with the Machinator Array weapons on.

Good job I found a recaster, since now I can get FW stuff as bits, since the special characters are MUCH cheaper and I'm not paying £60 for a big bag of bitz.

The White Scars are interesting, or at least their novels make them appear so... but their color scheme isn't great. 5 out of 9 loyalist legions are black, white, or gray. That's lame. None of the remaining 4 changed much from M31 to M41, and that makes them seem boring.

For people who aren't familiar with 40k the Blood Angels are probably genuinely interesting. Their one BL novel was only so-so; the characters were painfully indistinct.

It deepstrike on hover, so it'd be a skimmer, and Interceptor happens at the end of the movement phase, aka when the troops it carried had already disembarked 6".
And nothing short of Interceptor Medusae could stop Reductor Secutarii from shooting on arrival. And even then, they have Refractor fields.
But they're expensive.
>>
>>52002309
Since that happens at the end of the phase, yes you can, but it still has time to disembark it's cargo, and the 75-90pt plane isn't exactly a massive threat. You also hardly ever mishap, have good reserves with an Archimandrite and get a 6" disembark move to fix scatter and get into a good spot to dodge LoS/get a good angle on the target.

>>52002337

The nasty thing about the Hoplite drop is you don't have to worry about them dying but they can do a lot for you if even one lives. No idea what to put Scoria in with, nothing much he likes that isn't an MC. Perhaps some Thallax just to tank, or some Priest Auxilia to drop in, go their separate ways and multimelta some things.

Well, 12 Hoplites with an Omnispex is only 164 pts, 254 with an Arvus w/ TL Autocannon. That's a lot less than the thing they'll probably fry, and they can score too. They're not dirt cheap, but it's certainly within expendable range.

This period is always hell because suddenly I get showered with praise I do not deserve and lauded as some kind of hero instead of a guilty copyright infringer and destroyer of books. Now I can sink back into the mass of anon and vanish among the faceless masses, free at last.

I can't make promises about Angelus, but I never though I'd actually get to do Inferno, and look where we are. So with luck, I'll see everyone in a year or so. This place nearly went to shit in the period between Retribution and Inferno, try not to let the same happen between Inferno and Angelus.

Eh, I really don't think it's that much of a deal as long as they're painted decent. You can't blame someone for wanting to use good deals to by the plastic equivalents of the excessively priced (for Infantry anyways) resin models. Plus there's still legion/FW specific stuff that GW doesn't produce and many of those are fairly powerful and thematic choices.
>>
>>52003260
That's been pretty much the case since Calth released. There'll probably be a rhino or spartan release with the next boxed set though. Istvaan has plenty of scope for some vehicles, at least Jetbikes.
>>
>>52003214
We need to toss Rowboat 2.0 at those and the other big melee dudes and see how he fares. Because he has a fairly chunky melee statline and his ability to dish out the D is nasty.

>>52003260
>Anybody else looking forward to facing armies with nothing but BaC/BoP models and 40k vehicles led by nuGuilliman? Because you all know this *will* happen.

Mars pattern Rhinos exist in 30k.
40k Guilliman is clearly not suitable for 30k.

As for the general disdain for BaC/BoP beginner armies, this is somehow better than facing a table full of recasts?
>>
>>52003318
BaC and BoP are awesome, but I'm also sure we'll see people using the new Roboute as a stand-in for his 30k model. I know I've already had people seriously using plastic Magnus in that manner.
>>
How do you guys go about assembling and painting lots of dudes? Like, where do you find the will? I have 2 boxed sets waiting to at least be assembled, but I've only put together and painted literally one Marine from each. >>52003317
Tribune loses, since running with 30k S:D, one in every round of attacks will force him to take a regular 3++, and he can only afford to fail two of those. So he has to kill Rowboat a lot faster, which he can't manage, dealing .833 wounds per round, before Guillimans FnP. He'll be punched out by D on round six or seven.

It's more interesting with Russ and Anacharis, since they hit a tad harder themselves. Scoria kills him in less than 5 rounds, not calculated Guillimans damage yet.

Wait, why are you using 30k D?
I've yet to meet someonewho uses it, and Guilliman 2.0 was designed around 40k D.
It makes more sense to defer to that, because otherwise we aren't getting an accurate picture of bobby G as he actually is in the rules.

Bobby G should probably destroy scoria if it really does take him 5 turns, because going by 40k rules Guilliman needs exactly 2 turns before he wipes scoria off the face of the planet with the d6+6 no saves of any kind result
>>
>>52003556
Big problem with FW is that they don't really sell through retailers that much. GW shit is easy to get cheap when you can find a retailer selling for a good 20-30% off. Combine that with their box sets that are already cheaper.
>>
>>52003419

Yea, I was thinking something like that. Never done it that way before, though. I'm also telling myself that I'm not putting them together yet because I'm waiting for upgrade kits and guns, but that is mostly BS since I can do torsos and shit now.

>>52003463

That is true. Part of the problem is that my only real time to do anything is when I get home from work, and then I never want to do anything. Hell, it took me a week to assemble 5 raptors for the CSM side of my army.

Guess I just need to push myself. I just don't want it to feel like work.
>>
>>52003636
Why only two turns? He only gets 6 attacks base and only gets S:D on a 6 to hit and the 6+d6 wounds with no saves only works on a further roll of a 6 on the Destroyer chart. That's going to take a bit more to guarantee it.
>>
>>52003656
It's not 2 turns.
I was working out bobby vs the warlord earlier, in which all of his to wounds are S:D. Completely for got that was not always the case, because most of the time he's hitting on berter than a 6+.

It's 6 turns to be garunteed a d6+6 result, but he'll be averaging one S:D wound per turn.

>>52003560

I like them, they are fairer for big stuff, and in duels they make it a bit more fair, but OK. In this case, I'll defer to >>52003636
and work off 40k.

The way that ends up working is that as his reroll 1s trait doesn't quite provide an extra hit over 5 rounds, Guilliman WILL win in 6 rounds.

Regular punching: Guilliman lands 3.66 normal hits (And 1 D, which will be resolved later). This translates into 0.51 wounds after saves and IWND. The D hit, which isn't calculating 6s because that's ending the duel anyway R6, does 0.66 wounds. Adding those to the earlier ones, Scoria dies in 4.27 rounds, so D6 won't occur.

Scoria's return damage:
His Vodian Sceptre does 1.33 wounds flat, then his Machinator does 1/6 per round, for a total of 1.5 wounds per round. Scoria kills G-man in 4 rounds, so Guilliman loses it on the margin. Close.

Against Russ, Guilliman does one D hit per round, causing 1 wound per round, so kills in 6 either way.

Russ hits 3, wounds 2.25 and causes 0.5 wounds per round, and even with Sever Life bumping that up to 0.74 gets his shit wrecked.

Scoria wins, Russ loses. I suspect Gman does better with 30kD, since the fights don't last long enough for the onehit and the reroll invulns would probably do it.

Wait. Hold on. What fucking math is that?
Scoria has 3 attacks. He's hitting on 5+ because Guilliman is ws9, which means his sceptere is doing 2 wounds on average, brought down to .666 wounds because of the 3++. The machinator array is wounding on 3+, which makes .5 wounds brought down to .166... Wounds by the 3++. That makes .888 wounds per round.
How the hell are you getting 1.5 wounds per round? Somebody's math is way off here
>>
Wait, just 3 attacks?
>>
>>52003916
I'm going with the fluff. I mean, aren't all Cult Mechanicus' HQ options dudes that pass Battlesmith on a 2+ and have a Cybertheurgy-equivalent?
In 30k you have 8 Magos flavours (or 16 if you count the enhanced versions as separate), while in 40k you have like two
>>
>>52003891
The other way I could have done it would be to have the D6 hit Round 4, as that's when odds of it go above 50%, in which case it would entirely hang on whether Scoria took IWND at the end of Round 3, so 50% either way.

If it's factored in as a ticking 1.84 wounds per turn, it would allow him to beat literally anything without Stomp or D itself, but it's preferable to keep those like Sever Life or Horus' Disabling Strike, activated once damage or number of attks made pass a certain threshold, or you wind up subtracting 0.72 WS from Scoria per Horus attack round, and thus granting (0.72D3) extra attacks and stuff, which as it's a combat round system doesn't actually occur on the tabletop.

Also, there's a moratorium on psychic powers in my Mathhammer (Not that that applies here), since you'd have to work out what Warp Charge spend, on what powers, gives the optimal kill time ratio decrease, and what Perils would do, and a billion other things. So none of those, ever, because not only are they broken and will grant autowins, I like my brain unmelted. No witchery in honourable combat.

>>52003955

Yes I did, but it doesn't advance the D:6 to Round 5, and doesn't increase vanilla damage enough.

>>52003951

30k is S10, Ignore Cover, reroll invulns and penetration rolls, and does D3+1 wounds/HP.

40k doesn't Ignore Cover or force invuln rerolls, but has it's own table in the rulebook, where a 6 does 6+d6 wounds with no negating saves or FnP.

>>52004011

Scoria has 4 attacks, hits on 4s because WS5. Machinator is S6 Shred, so that's 1 hit, 0.75 wounds, 0.25 unsaved and then 1.666666 through FnP. V-stick ignores his FnP, which is why that's not factored there.

How are you getting 4 attacks? Unless he's charging every turn he's getting 3 at most, because the sceptere is 2 handed.

Forgot about the shred though. But that's not doing 1.5 wounds per turn. It's hitting .666... Times at most, be 2 attacks * 33% chance to hit.

Look at the rules for the Xanatite Abeyant. Gives him a nice pile of extra stuff. Also, hitting on 4+, friend. 2x5 +1 is not 9, Guilliman would have to be Weapon Skill 11 to force Scoria to hit on a 5+.
>>
>>52004124
Wait, fuck the abbent is a thing.
Even then, that's doing .888.. Wounds, because 4*.33*2*.33.
Even then, that's still not 1.5 wounds per turn.

Why is Scoria hitting Guilliman on a 5+? As far as I know he has no negative modifiers to the enemy's Weapon Skill or To Hit roll.

Well that's an interesting tidbit.
>>
>>52004145
Fuck, it is 4+ isn't it?
I forget just how fucked assault is some times.
So that is. 1.5 wounds per turn.

I knew someone's math was off.

>>52004163
It's 4+. Forgot that melee is fucked.

Sorry can someone post me a pic of scoria rules/or give me the stats? Because I could have a player in my group that gloriously trolled us so far... (And plays Scoria with like 5 or 6 attacks each turn...)

On the turn he charges he can have up to 7 attacks.

But a base scoria has 3 attacks with the
Scepter, and 2 with the array.

After. During Molech (in the book Vengeful Spirit) a small group of knights errant board the Vengeful Spirit to leave marks on walls for Russ to follow on his future expedition. That part didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
>>
>>52004202
>>52004211

Yeah. Doesn't make too much sense, but thems the rules. Also, if anyone got Guilliman and Scoria, who are both slow as fuck, into combat then managed to have said combat end before the game did, well done to them :).

This doesn't quite break the tie of Russ, Tribune and Scoria for the best smashy guy in the game as it's still not enough difference to matter tabletop, but he's the First Among Equals now, I think. At this point it's a skillset fight rather than a raw power brawl, so rankings are harder to determine. Think it's Magnus if he's cheating (No psyk allowed) then Scoria, very closely followed by 40k Gman, Russ and Tribune, then the usual lot down from Horus. Not sure where depowered Magnus stands yet, but I imagine quite high thanks to -1 To Hit.

If Scoria can get another victory the others can't, he'll be top again. ATM it's 2 to Scoria, 2 to 40kGman, 1 to Russ and one to Tribune in the Herohammer World Championship.

>>52004298

Dick move that guy, unless he's charging. 5 on the charge, plus two from the Machinator. Depends whether those were 6 Sceptre attacks or not.
>>
Thank you all...

So it's just 5 attacks if he charges, 4 attacks normally...
>>
>>52004346
I'm not really sure why 40k Gillman is in the rankings at all.

All this has been ignoring Guilliman's ability to come back.
He's got a 50% chance to fuck up his scoria and a 50% chance to stay dead. I'd say Scoria and guilliman should be considered practically equal because of that. And frankly they're all equal, because like you said, each one is better depending on what skillset you need.

That said, it really says something that Bobby 2.0 is this high in 30k, yet is just pretty good for 40k.

Small request, can someone put this on Mega?

Because someone suggested it.
Realistically he shouldn't be. He's from a whole different world, were his rules aren't even the most powerful thing around.

Compulsive liar, who did much worse... like Carnifexes with 8 Wound and 9 Thoughness, or a free spore bombardment at the start of the game... He also gets angry if people asks to watch his codex/army book...
