What's your favorite way that games classify spells?
>Elements or Forms (Fire, Water, Time, Mind, etc.)
>Function or School (Abjuration, Conjuration, etc.)
>Other?

School, although not in the way DnD does schools, which borders on outright retarded. (Fireball is Conjuration for some reason, not Evocation? The school that actually has to do with DAMAGING THINGS?)
Personally the Elder Scrolls' school system is nice and solid IMO, after they got rid of Mysticism. Don't get me wrong, Skyrim did alot of awful things to the lore, but the school system is fine.

What? When was fireball ever conjuration?

Think he meant this one.

The real wacky ones are floating disk being evocation and ice arrow being conjuration - the two schools were always stepping on each other toes but conjuration always being better because it also had summons as well as direct damage kinda made the problem more obvious.

Evocation is Green Latern shit, conjuration is fire/frost/lightning magic.

Other way around. Conjuration makes mass, Evocation makes energy.

No it fucking doesn't. Conjuring fire is so much less time consuming than evocating fire. For one you don't have to be autistic about the details and attributes of fire, cause you're not totally reliant on your imagination.

You're both wrong. Conjuration is the moving of a material or energy into the immediate vicinity to accomplish an effect. Summoning, Teleportation, and Creation are its big subschools. There are very few if any elemental damage spells within this school. Examples include Teleport, Cure spells, and Summon Monster
Evocation is the manipulation or creation of magic and the four elements to create an effect, usually by way of an energy type. There are a lot of damaging spells, but some of them don't deal with doing damage. Fireballs are a good example, so is Lightning Bolt. Evocation spells can create long lasting elemental effects such as Walls of Ice.
Besides, you're probably playing 5e where that's true, and 5e is shit. Flaming Sphere is an Evocation spell in PF along with Floating Disk. Floating Disk is evocation because it's not conjuring material but simply manipulating extent energy into a hard form, namely force.
