In the case of spotted hyenas, that's a definitive probably.

However as there are different hyena types, each with different behaviours, the lines blur somewhat. Also, it highly depends on whether the worldbuilding emphasises natural hyena behaviour or their not!African culture.

What sort of beastmen best fits an intermingling with sloths? Anteaters are closely related but feel odd to have in fantasy. Perhaps they're more at home among myconids or sentient flora as they're often in symbiosis with moss and fungus growing on them in real life?
