People want Zoats back? They always looked clunky to me.

I suppose the Dragon Ogres might be considered a spiritual successor.
>>
>>51974560

Damn it, that's the only positive thing I could fine with AoS. I could rune a Dragon ogre army and say they were Zoats. The only problem is nobody playing AoS would have a clue what Zoat was, so I suppose it's a catch 22.

Actually, looking a little closer they were featured in Storm of Magic as some of the many magical things happening, so they actually have more modern rules.

I don't care if Bretonnian peasant mobs are possibly the shittiest unit in the whole game, I love them. They're fluffy, they're fun, and they can be surprisingly useful in a pinch, especially since they're so cheap.

The Phoenix King demands that you develop your ideal Warhammer Fantasy video game. He has promised the treasury of Ulthuan to finance this venture, as well as all the time in the world as if you spend your entire life on it it'd be like a week to him. What is it?

Hard Mode: It can't be an RTS, RPG or open world survival/crafting game.

I didn't see anything in there about a turn-based tabletop adaptation, so I'd go with that.
>>
>>51975258
>Hard Mode: It can't be an RTS, RPG or open world survival/crafting game.

Castlevania-style point-crawl across the Old World as a peasant in the Empire cutting your way through battlefields and looting ruins.

Two paths of Progression, Saintly Path and Chaos Path. Saintly Path sees you becoming more and more a holy servant of Sigmar given your righteous murder across the Old World. Chaos Path sees you getting more Mutant Powers and slowly becoming the enemy of the Empire and the rest of the world.

Do it up in Barbarian King style pixel art because that's cheap and easy compared to proper stuff. Five levels per zone, plus a Boss. Allow for full on wandering across the Old World. Each zone has one shop/town hub.

I thought I had covered it, but I, nay, the King should have specified.

Using my on Hard Mode, I'd want to see a 2d fighting game like Marvel vs Capcom or Mortal Kombat, though obviously the latter due to its dark setting. Control Malekith, Grimgor, Karl Franz, Louen Leoncour, Greasus Goldtooth, Lord Mazdamundi and more on a variety of stages.

The story takes place moments before the first battle of the End Times takes place. The Old Ones have returned and disabled all the combatants. Rather than see their creations, and the other oddities, destroy each other, they take the leaders and host a tournament that pits them against each other. The winner's race is spared and taken into space with the Old Ones while the rest die with the planet. And like Mortal Kombat there is the 'story' ending and the 'ladder' endings.

I learned from an anon in the last thread that you can deal with that by having your lord stay at a city with a shrine to the Lady in it. They pray there and it deals with the effect.

I get that this isn't the Total War general, but honestly I'm glad I'm not the only one playing it. It's my first time being a part of something as it happens, and it's weird to have almost nowhere else to look for advice.

I've been really into the Skaven recently and dug out my army after getting a new warp lightning cannon, the new Thanquol and Boneripper and some stormfiends.

>>
>>51977893
Those are the 4 factions I figured would be in the next expansion. Putting Naggaroth, Lustria and Ulthuan on the map makes sense and the Skaven are popular enough that they shouldn't wait much longer to put them in.

I could, however, see them expanding Chaos (either adding daemons or fleshing out mortals) since the Dark Elves, High Elves and Lizardmen all have good enough reason to fight them. But the Skaven and Lizardmen are good opposites. We'll see.

I'm worried about how they'll handle the globe as a whole. The game already has a ton of factions, and adding more makes turns go longer. And most of them won't even really be interacting with each other anyway, unless they add quests and prompts to have factions sailing halfway around the map just to get to each other.

Still, I hope they don't split things up into theatres like they did in Empire Total War, or worse, just chop the globe up into sections. I understand it's already an ambitious project, and I don't want them to cut corners, but if I could sail an army from Marienburg to Lustria, that would make my day.

I'm worried about how well the whole Warhammer world will be implemented as well. I'd like to take my fleet of Dark Elf corsairs to every corner of the globe and bring all the slaves, gold and assorted relics and ancient artifacts back to Naggaroth.

How CA does the Skaven is also a thought I've had. How will the many tunnels of the Under-Empire be handled? Will the Skaven be popping up everywhere? Hopefully yes, to add some flavor to the map and allow them to visit any faction at any time for more variety.

How will Ulthuan be handled? So far every faction is split up into subfactions that can war with each other, but it wouldn't seem right to have the High Elves at war with each other. So that means they'll have to sail away from their island home.

I can't wait to see Naggaroth and Ulthuan battlefields, and perhaps the tunnels of the Under-Empire too. The Dark Elves and Skaven are the two factions I've collected and played for many years on the table, and I'm just waiting for one of them to be added. None of the current factions interest me much, but if CA delivers on a good experience for those two factions I'll be a happy man.
>>
>>51978123
I just wish they'd fix the Bretonnia map. It doesn't need to be so squished seeing as how the Empire got all its provinces.
>>
>>51978191
I would find it kind of cool if each dukedom got its own province, but they'd also all be fairly small - unless you made Bretonnia as a whole larger, which might start to strain things a bit. It'd also really help my autism if Couronne and L'Anguille were in the right shape and the proper place respectively.

You know what I'd love to see for Skaven?
A Black Hunger mechanic.
There's a few different ways you could go with that. Perhaps they have ridiculous Growth, but if you have a population surplus you get massive settlement unhappiness and your armies get a buff/debuff combination to represent them going mad from hunger. Something to represent their whole Malthusian aspect.

GW already made Warhammer Angry Birds.

You throw Goblins.
>>
>>51975258
Warhammer Go.

You strengthen your warband and recruit more. You take over structures in your Warhammer-ized area, turning them into faction-specific buildings.

Taking one over is an isometric strategy game with card game magic.

You choose faction (Order, Chaos, Destruction, Undead, Neutral) and your race (Order has Dwarf/Empire/Bret/HE, Chaos has Slaanesh/Khorne/Nurgle/Tzeentch, Destruction has Savage/Forest/Black/Plains, Neutral has Vampire/Tomb/Ogre/Lizardmen).

Dwarf/Nurgle/Black/Ogre are slower troops with shit magic but hardier.
Empire/Slaanesh/Plains/Tomb are jack of all trades with great ranged options, Bret/Khorne/Savage/Vampire are fighty with shit magic, High Elves/Tzeentch/Forest/Lizardmen are fast magic users but flimsy.

Robot Wars, before Robot Wars was a thing. The first robot fighting TV show in the mid 80's.

Like Carmen Sandiego or Legends Of The Hidden Temple it'd be a show where there's a setup and story each episode even if formulaic each time. Players were AdMech building robots. Keep in mind this was before "machine spirit" lore where technology is scary, this was when pic related was part of the Imperium army.

It fell through when Kirby bought GW. He didn't see any point in advertising which is why GW ads stopped showing up in magazines too. He was right-ish at the time, but a decade and a half later Warhammer was Warcraft for proto-hipsters due to obscurity and effort needed to get into it.

However, if you're an autist like me, you'll be pissed that Tzaangors were described as having exotic patterns and colors like tiger stripes or leopard spots, and Tzaangors in AoS are just burds. Well sculpted birds, admittedly, but not especially creative.

I'll try to be a little fairer towards Mousilion and see what they're like next time I play, I guess.

>O&G list includes all the possible warmachines. Bolt throwers, goblin-lobba, rock-lobba
>big horde block of goblins with BSB, poisoned bows
>And of course a big block of savages witht he 4th level shaman
>Turn1 goes to O&G
>Goodgod.jpg
>Gryffin dies, 2 wounds on the phoenix, 2 wounds on the lord, 1 HE bolt thrower is destroyed, 1 O&G bolt thrower misfires and dies, SoA receive 8 casualities and the HE player has to throw his dispel scroll to stop the Foot of Gork
>Turn 1 the HE player is desperately trying to close distance, a Silver Helm units eats 2 fanatics in the face, tries to get around the endless night goblins redirectors.
>Turn 2 continues as the SoA are reduced to rabble, the Phoenix has 1 wound left. Fanatics galore basically wrecks a unit of Phoenix Guard (around 20 hits, totalling roughly 10 casualities)
>Turn 3 silver helm finally get in combat with the savages, but the rest of the army is a mess
>turn 6 the O&G players wins (narrowly, due to a couple of lucky Dwellers and the phoenix refusing to die)

On tabletop? High or wood elves, or empire. Both elves have exceptional shooting and infantry that packs a punch but is rather squishy. Wood elves have additional singery due to the added woods, which can quickly become nightmarish for your enemies.

Empire can provide the artillery support and heavy cavalry

For Honour like combat, gigantic battles where you basically have warhammer units as nice but with 50 or 100 player "Heroes". Pick your faction (Order/Destruction/Undead) and you can play as any of their races (Human/Elf/Dwarf, Chaos/Greenskins/DElf, Vampire/Tomb King/Necromancer) then fight over the Warhammer World from their different starting points. Each map you fight on is related to where the battle is taking place, so you aren't attacking "generic fortress" but actual Altdorf or Karak-a-Krak or Naggaroth.
Everything is reset at the end of a period.

I always wondered if I did something wrong with my Orcs, back in the day.
I mostly had Black Orcs, good Ol' Grimgor with 'em, like two big units of regular Orcs and some River Trolls cause they looked cool. But always seemed to get an ass kicking. Like one match up against Tomb Kings, where the dude just had archer skeletons and casters. Could fire twice a turn and slow my guys to a crawl. Was rough.
Though I was playing 8th, which I seem to remember being "whoever had the bigger Horde wins".
Would have I fared better in previous editions?

That Tomb King list is a common net list and one of the most fucking annoying. Not uncommon to see an 80 block of skeleton archers with Khalida's Asp. He was a bit of a bellend for using that, it's about as fun to fight as Dwarf gun-lines, but i hear the TK army book was a bit limited for good builds.

You would have probably fared better in another edition but really it depends on the opponent. If he's using the net list equivalent of that edition then no wargame will be fun.

High Elves. Lizzies can in theory side woth anyone who serves the plans of the Old Ones, or it helps protect Albion. But Lizzies in existing fluff never allied with anyone, just helping Elves from afar and otherwise repelling unwitting invaders to Lustria.

Or Amazons, they're buddies with Lizzies. You can buy Freebooter's Fate Amazons as proxies.

>>51997496
TK was so limited there really was only four viable builds at all and three of them needed the Archerfest. The fourth was full Chariots.

ET Nagash fixed the problem, months before the death of the game.

Really wish that they had done more with Bretonnia. After the DLC pack, it's really sparked up some love for them. The whole knight-in-shining-armour angle is desperately needed in WHFB, even if they are cunts to the peasantry.

> Troubadour
Hero that buffs/debuffs with various songs
> Hermit Knight
Hero on foot with Scout and Stubborn
> Brigands
Special scout unit with a merry-men, stand-and-deliver rule
> Black Knights
Bastard sons, cowards and fools, who have had their honour taken and their horses seized. Foot knights with a desperation-angle and excel at storming buildings.
> Sacred Site
Terrain piece that is deployed anywhere in your table half. Buffs nearby units, comes with a guardian.
> Fey Spirits
Ethereal, returned sons of Bretonnia

Loads of scope.

I'm actually kind of interested in Ye Olde Bretonnia from back when it was LET THEM EAT CAKE instead of Arthurian. Might use it for inspiration as regards a homebrew setting for some Pathfinder stuff I'm doing, too. What old books and magazines - or websites - shuold I look into for info on it? I think it was like the middle of 3rd edition or whatever when they retconned them to being Arthurian? I know in the 3rd edition rulebook Bretonnia is still a send up of pre-revolutionary France.

I'm afraid I'm not at all sure. I know there was an odd middle point where Bretonnia seemed to have a mix of the older lore and the newer lore - the Sun King was the father of Leoun Leonceour, stuff like that. Lexicanum says that it completely abandoned the ideas of older Bretonnian lore around 4th edition, but kept some of it in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, so either of those might be a good place to look.

http://whfb.lexicanum.com/wiki/Bretonnia_(outdated)
>>
>>52001367
GW drastically altered the lore from 4 to 5e because they shifted focus from Brets to Empire as the main character humans of the setting.
>>
>>52001414
And every edition since they did everything they could to keep Brets in the background, as a shadow of a second fiddle.

But seriously, even though what you said is more than likely true - that was long before I got into the hobby - I'm not sure how drastically it affected the lore, or how long the older lore lingered on before being replaced completely. Did they retcon most of it to Arthurian knights, with vague bits of the old Bourbon theme, and then quietly wipe out the last of those when no one was looking?
>>
>>52001367
In WFRP source book for Bretonnia they combine elements of old and new Bretonnian lore. It's pretty good. The nobility is just as exploitative and deluded as in the old lore, and the whole Arthurian chivalric lifestyle is just a way of legitimizing their rule.
>>
>>52001573
Brets didn't sell that well because GW was far from the only ones making knights. But Empire at the time was niche as fuck.

So they took from Brets what sold and gave to Empire exclusively, namely the cannons. Then put every McGuffin there and gave them all the allies.

Brets went from the best of humanity to being just backwards men controlled by an Elf and Empire went from the Imperium without the excuse of the Emperor and Heresy for being shit to being valiant heroes standing against a daily apocalypse.

Like Beastmen, Brets suffered when GW split them into two armies and decided the other parts are far more important. That's not even going into how every kill everything button that Chaos needs is inside the Empire.

>>
>>52002406
>So what, like rocking out and eating?
And also what they are advertised as (sex, drugs, rock, and roll.
>>
>>52002406
I've always felt Slaanesh would be best represented by Hellraiser. That idea of excess and of pain and pleasure being indivisible. Sensation. Noise Marines from 40k are, in my opinion, the best example of Slaanesh. Excess. Whatever you do, you do an excessive degree. No more music, only LOUD. No more food, only FEASTS. No more sex, only ORGIES.

Nurgle is lethargy and apathy, but Slaanesh is GOTTAGOFAST and GOTTABETHEVERYBESTLIKENOONEEVERWAS.
>>
>>52002473
That's a good observation, how would you see that applying to RP situations?

Say for example the party has to enter a fortified camp full of enemies. The khorne worshipper challengers the occupants to combat before slaughtering their way through, the Tzeench worshipper schemes a convoluted plot that has the camp infight and break apart, not even noticing the worshipper enter, and the Nurgle worshipper spreads a deadly contagion into the camp, weakening and killing many so that he can simply stroll in.

How would the Slaanesh worshipper do it?
>>
>>52002590
Slaanesh worshiper would seduce the guards.
>>
>>52002590
Seduce a guard or person in the camp in general to open a gate and let them in, charm them into accepting them as friends, give them gifts of poisoned wine and fine foods, get a bunch of nearby locals hopped up on forest drugs to throw at the fortified camp as a distraction...
>>
>>52002590
I'm the (you) you quotes. I'd say the Slaaneshi would do it in one of a few ways.
They might, as others have noted, simply seduce or charm the guards. I don't think they'd bribe, that seems more Tzeentchi, while poison seems more Nurgle's speed. In fact, I think some Slaaneshi might honestly be offended on a religious level by poisoned food/wine. Besides seduction, I think they might do it with brilliant tactics and strategy. The art of war at its most artful. When Slaanesh cultists fight, I see it as a thing of terrible beauty and grace, or as something so feral and orgaistic it resembles rape more than a regular fight. But yeah, excess. Even excess at arms. The Slaanesh cultist who devotes themselves to war devotes themselves to being the most artistic and perfect warrior ever. Khorne is BLOOD AND THUNDER, but Slaanesh is the *art* of war. The duelist's rapier to the axe of Khorne.
>>
>>52002406
Slaanesh is also extreme pride. Which I think is the single most important thing to him since every character of his in lore are prideful bastards.

Ignorant arrogance like Sigvald or haughty overconfidence like Morathi. They're entitled cunts.
>>
>>51997524

Holy shit, how have I never heard of Freebooter's Amazons? Lovely models, the faces look a tad horsey but I'm sure paint can fix that.
>>
>>52002978
So if we were using the situation of the hostile camp in >>52002590. The Slaanesh worshipper would declare themselves before the camp as the greatest at a particular task, and then challenge the enemy to beat them at such a task, sealing their own doom?

The guy who does a lot of work for Reaper works for them. Freebooter is 10/10. Brotherhood is great for Mordheim, and the Goblin Pirates are just great. According to 1d4 the best use is Pirates for Rogue Trader, but I dunno about that.
>>
>>52003012
More like duel the enemy like Errol Flynn. Taunting constantly.
>>
>>52002406
Excess also includes striving toward perfection, especially if it's detrimental to something else. As such Slaanesh is basically opposing moderation. A monk who dedicates his life to silent contemplation is just as likely to fall to Slaanesh as the most hedonistic and sexueallally perverted nobleman.
>>
>>52003491
Yeah. This is what I have been saying, basically.
In the modern world, Slaaneshi cultists would include stamp collectors and other autists.
>>
>>52003591
>Slaanesh rewards stamp collector by placing him in a realm where it continually rains unique stamp
>>
>>52002590
The Slaaneshi champion could go about it in a myriad of ways. For instance:

Challenge the fortress('s champion) to a duel. The winner gets the McGuffin.

Bribe the garrison.

Send the fortress garrison a delivery of strong vines and good food under the guise of it being a bonus from their boss. Make sure that the champion's warband/whatever is disguised as servants, prostitutes and cooks. Then when the defenders are drunk and gorged let the massacre begin.

Overawe the defenders with a proper show of force.

Just straight up assault/lay siege to the place. Sell the survivors into slavery.

Sleep your way to the McGuffin.

I think Slaanesh followers would enjoy the pleasure of watching someone's face go from delight at his delicious food, to an expression of horror as he slowly starts dying.

It's only vaguely related, but I remember a short story where a Greater Daemon of Slaanesh was disappointed that a daemonette had killed the man he'd been stringing around for decades to do his bidding - not because he wanted him alive, but because he wanted the daemonette to wait a moment so he could realize exactly what was going to happen to him.

There was another short story where I got the idea for drug addled crazy fighters to act as a distraction, but that one also keeps on going on about voluptuous breasts and has a lot of sexual under and overtones.
>>
>>52002590

Also similar to what I wrote in >>52003690
it would also be in the Nurgle champion's character to use the threat of annihilation through a show of force to get the McGuffin.
Nurgle is after all a god of Despair.
>>
>>52002406
>So what, like rocking out and eating? A morbidly obese slaanesh worshipper would be quite interesting.

Excess in ANYTHING. Artists are frequently lured by Slaaneshi daemons as muses, for example. Some are obsessed with beauty. One could have a Slaaneshi who sought to collect rare objects and artificially make them rarer by destroying others of their sort - or maybe do the same thing with people. One could imagine a Slaaneshi duelist, utterly overtaken with his need to have perfect form, to kill in the absolute minimum of moves, to make it as painful as possible...or perhaps to always kill a foe before they even had time to realize they were dead.

Sex and drugs is fine, despite what the whingers say. But you can do way more with Slaanesh than daemon girls with girthy ribbed cocks.
>>
>>52003724
Then torture becomes pleasure.

That's Slaanesh, baby.

Speaking of the Brets, so we all know what became of Giles, but what about the other Grail Companions? Were they buried and if so where are their tombs? Are they still kicking around as Grail Knights, and if so are they doing so secretly like the Green Knight, or are their identities known?

Seems like fertile ground for WHFRP shit.

He did try but he got sick of GW's bullshit. Kirby told him to his face to 'piss off' on one occasion. He hated how corporate it had all become, so in 2010 he left which was the year 8th edition came out. He probably saw first hand how quickly it would kill the game and just wanted out. He couldn't have saved the game, by the mid to late 00's he didn't have that much power anymore. He had been marginalised. A part of me believes this was why 8th was the last edition. They always had a but of a vendetta against Priestly since he represented the last bastion of the 'good old days'. Scrapping Warhammer was probably their was of gutting the last of Priestlyism.

>>52004248
I know Giles had descendants - Bohemond Beastslayer is one. Agilgar of Parravon fell to his death in the Grey Mountains after he was attacked by a pair of Wyverns. Otherwise, not much is said of the Grail Companions afterwards, as far as I know. I can assume they aren't still alive, otherwise they'd probably still be leading their duchies today.
>>
>>51998920

Yes, they had a warband in Mordheim. They appeared to be Roman in aesthetics.
>>
>>51999207

Well Priestly didn't really develop the SBG, that was 70% Alessio Cavatore.

Priestly always just wanted concise and precise games that were quick to play (ie. about 2 hours).

If you look at Hail Caesar, Black Powder and Kings of War, that was probably the route a Priestly 9th edition would have went. But Priestly was also a fan of stratified games and probably would have kept Warmaster, skirmish games and Man O' War.

In Slaanesh's way, it'd go into the why and what of the collector.

In theory, he'd maintain Slaanesh's stamps and pursue postmen across every realm, causing fevered dreams of Mickey Mouse Ultramarine tributes then lay siege to Terra and collect them. Monitoring the trade routes of Marienburg and manipulate Slaanesh cultists into opening a portal so he can nab a book of authentic one of a kind postman's stampers and a book of recipets detailing the history of the city.

Other collectors would be drawn into his realm, their minds shattering trying to fathom the completeness of an infinite collection including stamps that mever were and a condition far exceeding "pristine".

I think the analogy can (sort of) be extended
>If a warrior says fuck training and tries to cause misery and death through any means, this pleases Nurgle
>If a warrior trains for some convoluted higher purpose just as planned shit, this pleases Tzeentch

Or alternatively
>Becoming a good public orator so you can [accomplish some plan] catches the eye of Tzeentch, but becoming a good public orator for the sake of pride and fame attracts Slaanesh

This doesn't seem that accurate to me desu. One of the most efficent ways to spread disease and famine is by warfare which in turn generates an awful amount of despair. Warfare, just as a forest fire is also a good way to 'fertiles' a realm which allows for new lifeforms to flourish. A follower of Nurgle is thus doing his god's work if he applies himself in his training so that he can become an even more dreaded fighter and thus prolong the mayhem that is war.

So after such time... How is Age of Sigmar? Both gameplay wise and lorewise
>>
>>52007436

Too early to say. I think AoS was a key decision in Kirby stepping down, so it was obviously a controversial decision in the company.

If Mordheim is set in the original setting, then I say there's a chance of FW maybe releasing some Horus Heresy style content for Fantasy. If it's switched to AoS like Warhammer Quest was, then I think GW is going all in and Fantasy will only get a look out in video games.

It's never too late to get into Warhammer Fantasy. Which edition you should play is a hard question to answer because it's totally down to your own taste. Since you're starting with a friend, it's going to have to be a joint decision.

6th edition was a smaller game and less magically focused. However, you're missing out on some of the cool 8th edition units and the later army books were a bit unbalanced.

8th edition had the magic mega spells and focused on large blocks of troops. Had a lot of unit variety and I think the core rules were good but some books have limited competitive builds, this shouldn't bother you though, as long as you don't net-list too hard.

T9A is basically a modified 8th, it still suffers from needing large blocks of men but has opened each faction to having multiple good builds. Also, it has a very active community who play regularly.

Kings of War is a really fast and tight rule-set. Each regiment acts are a collective and they live or die as a whole unit, not individuals. You don't need as many models to play and it's still an active game.

The AI gets retarded on anything over Normal.
>>
>>52014581
I haven't actually tried playing it over Normal yet. What goes crazy?
>>
>>52014654
It isn't as ridiculous as he says.
On VH the main thing you'll notice the AI being far, far less willing to even trade with you. But they don't backstab you noticeably more and aren't much more aggressive.

The main things to consider in VH/Legendary are the public order maluses, so you kinda NEED a public order building everywhere. The problem is compounded further if you're vamps because you get negative public order for not having properly corrupted a new conquest yet.

If VH and not Legendary(the same thing by the way, Legendary just has ironman saves and realistic camera no pause battles), you can change the battle difficulty slider as well.
Which I would recommend, as it feels really arbitrary as artificial difficulty.
Like empire troops having morale close to chaos warriors just because difficulty, and the AI winning a zombie vs zombie engagement because they crumble so much later in the fight.

Though the battle difficulty slider was bugged and wouldn't work before the Bretonnia update. Which I haven't played yet. Hopefully it is fixed.

Probably the most memery you'll see of AI interactions on hard difficulty is playing as Empire and having the local greenskin nomad tribe bribe middenland into declaring war on you before they're wiped off the face of the old world.
>>
>>52014654
They want war, and they don't care about logic.

Which means you'll often have enemies declaring war on you from across the map, going through the territory of like 5 other guys just to get to you.

This has been a thing since Shogun 2, but it got really bad in Attila, and in Warhammer it becomes silly because of the races involved.

I mean I didn't think about it too much prior to the total war game, but my mind is set on that aesthetic now: In that most of the dwarvern passages are pretty fucking large. Large enough to pass several such constructions through, making them unviable to be cleared unopposed.
I would assume that skaven tunnels are far more ramshackle, tight paths. But when can stunties afford to go on the offensive?
>>
>>52019381

When she falls down the tunnel and all the hands are fondling a 16 year old, that film always gave me strange feelings.

Well, if the tank fit perfectly then I suppose but that job can also be done by the Dwarf Goblin Hewer. The chances of it fitting perfectly are pretty slim as well, like a tank in an urban environment it would be very vulnerable to attacks from every direction.

What's more likely to happen is it gets stuck by debris and Goblins/Skaven clamber all over it and prise the top hatch open, killing everyone inside.

It would also be pretty easy to just collapse rocks onto it.

in short, avoid light armor and pistol, max out helmets

nurgle's rot will help you lose friends

nurglings are fun!

While I imagine many large caverns exist this is probably more a limitation of TW:W. I would bet 90% are small 5 to 10 men abreast caves.

On this note, I have to say the fucking underground sieges in that game look like total (war) shit. The Dwarf walls should go all the way to the roof of the cave. What the fuck would be the point of building a wall underground?
>>
>>52019553
Oh for damn sure It's a creative liberty taken to avoid any actual work on map design.
And yeah the underground sieges are trash.
But then all sieges are trash.
Thank god we got custom maps on the campaign.

The only issue is making a good map and somehow having the retarded AI properly recognize what is going on.

>>52019538
Better definitely specify DA:O rather than just DA there my dude.
What starts should there be?
What brings all the starts together?
What do you want to stick your dick in?
>>
>>52019553
yeah I don't consider it anything beyond gameplay necessity either. it's just an underground flavoured siege map.

The whole point of having cities underground is for them to be difficult to attack. Many lower tunnels and passages shouldn't be wider than 4 dwarfs and higher than two dwarfs.

That's how even a relative low number of ironbreakers can hold off the vast numbers of skaven and goblins that attack from below.

I could live with the large caverns for pitched battles since A) it's called total war not total skirmish and B) fighting a pitched battle in the only space available would probably come naturally.

But the Dwarf settlements underground look awful. I think everyone can agree they should have looked like picture related.

I can't fault them too much though, probably more work in the DLC they've made than the entirety of TW:R2.

Think of it less like in the video I included (that was just to give you a general idea/feel for what I was trying to say) and more like a motorized phalanx. With support that provides flank-protection it would surely be able to mow down vast amounts of foes while being nigh-unstoppable from the front.

>What's more likely to happen is it gets stuck by debris and Goblins/Skaven clamber all over it and prise the top hatch open, killing everyone inside.

I agree that the debris problem is the main draw-back with such a machine.

Having a couple of heavily armoured soldiers on top of it (similar to men on a fortress wall) would decrease the success-chance of any climbing attempts and further magnify the machines function as a mobile and deadly rampart.

Hmmm. If we got a 9th edition a Dwarf Tunnel Clearer that looked like the Marienburg landship with Dwarfs on top would have been pretty cool.

Like the CD skullcracker but with a platform on. Still, the Skaven could just throw a bomb underneath it.

Thanks for the pointers!
Seems like I should reconsider including some helmets in my warband.

The reason I went with Pistol + Morning Star on my leader is because I reasoned that the first round melee-threat that setup provides would scare away the biggest dangers against him. Is this flawed reasoning?

I included the light armour on my tank because I wanted him beefer and it seemed cheaper than going for an additional blessing. Should I leave him as is, remove the light armour or exchange it for an additional gift? Perhaps a fourth option is even better?

I've been unsure about whether I should include the Nurgle's rot or not (everything I've read on the internet about it just screams fun-killer) even though the guys who asked if I wanted to join in on some mordheim specificly mentioned Nurgle's Rot as a selling point for the pick (most important was however the fact that I already play a mono-nurgle list in 8th ed.).
That being said I'll definately bring the concern up when we get together and will be prepared with a sans-nurgle's rot list.
>>
>>52019745
This combined with a armoured shell/front wall is pretty much what I was going for.

And yeah the skaven could just throw a bomb underneath it but that can be said about pretty much anything and it would also necessitate that a skaven got close enough without dying to do that. It feels like the in-built fire-power and the swirling blades of the construct would take care of that threat as best as possible.

Karl-Franz is, in later lore, the once-in-several-generations type of leader. So, in fact, is the King of Bretonnia, who is so exceptional the Lady of the Lake reportedly gave him a cheeky kiss and more power than any of her other Grail Knights.

If we use Magnus as the last example of a true paragon Emperor, then perhaps Karl-Franz's weakness is also a desire to touch vampire butts.

It might be because they need to have dwarven soldiers to man and defend the walls, instead of just trusting the walls themselves to do the job. Small openings might be good for a few lookouts, but if you want a serious defense you'd need the same battlements and towers that you would need on the surface.

>While I imagine many large caverns exist this is probably more a limitation of TW:W. I would bet 90% are small 5 to 10 men abreast caves.

I agree with this speculation. The really huge hall-sized tunnels are probably limited to a few central highways between the keeps made during the time of the dwarven empire. As I figure that all tunnels are created for a specific purpose (such as ordinary travel between x and y or transporting industrial equipment down to a mine shaft) I'd suppose that there would also be a huge variety in the volume of a tunnel. The less significant a way the less effort is put into it and alot of effort in tunnel-construction is the volume.

more like DA:O but with some of the flashier combat in DA:I
>What starts should there be? - human witch hunter aprentice, dwarf warrior, norscan raider, exiled dark elf, high elf noble, college mage, dwarf engineer
>What brings all the starts together? the BBEG is obviously chaos, with a certain greenskin warlord in thrall
witch hunter/ college mage - unite the empire. stop chaos. be big damn heroes
dwarf warrior/ engineer - sent to aid the humans against the foes , have vendetta vs greenskins
High elf noble - exiled in disgrace to the empire to "fulfill our duty to the lesser races" (political positioning to remove you)
Dark elf- flee nagaroth to after failed coup, must now find allies and power ( not having the world taken over by chaos would also be nice - cant get your revenge if demons assrape everyone
Norscan raider- left stranded after failed raid, must now stop that treacherous usurping bastard who the real norseman is!
>What do you want to stick your dick in?
shadow warrior ( female) - feels betrayed by her fellow high elves and views them as stuck up short sighted shit, exiled over this
dwarf slayer- is slayer, are you killing big things? then hes coming with
onyx college mage (female) - sent to assist (supervise if DE or norscan) MC, family was slain in raid while she was a child - saw her father cut down before her eyes
engineer(male) - from nuln, isnt very popular back home, wonder why...
norscan raider (male) - rather enjoys the advantages of civilization, is up for hire/ enlisting since he'd rather the world remain mostly as is
High elf mage (male) - sent to assist the party ( eliminate MC if deemed necessary by his master) loyal due to being freed from slavers by his master
dark elf assassin (female) - hopes to regain favor back home by eliminating the MC, was exiled and house destroyed by rival - struck deal with the perpetrator to save it (obviously through dick and MC power you can sort everything out)

No worries, have fun!

Don't put a pistol on your spellcaster - unlike 8th edition you cast magic in the shooting phase, meaning that you want your guy to be casting every turn. If he gets a bad spell you can always get a pistol later on in the campaign.

A sword and helmet to ensure parrying and stun protection should suit him better.

more notes:

I'd go for cloud of flies on both the T.O's , allowing for more henchmen. -2 on to hit (combined flies and nurglings) in a combat isn't to be sniffed at.

likewise nurgle's rot is only good if you want to piss people off, and it becomes a real "white elephant" due to the way that wounds are calculated. cloud of flies is useful every game, and allows you to gain more nurglings in the early game.

mordheim rewards balanced warbands, rush tactics and early game dominance, although carnival of chaos isn't top tier
>>
>>52020429
Thanks!
Will probably go ahead and rebuild my leader after your suggestions, equipping him with helmet, mace & sword.

I'll definitely change my nurgle's rot-fella' into a cloud of flies--fella' but I'll probably stick with my tank as I really like the model I've made for him. Allthough then again nothing about the model stops me from emplying him as a really fly guy.

I'm primarily looking for a good time and as such competiveness isn't the end all be all for me.
>>
>>52020571
Or should I perhaps go helm, sword & shield on my leader instead?
>>
>>52012854
Just play Kings of War with your WHFB models. It's faster and smoother.
>>
>>52020571

no worries, the tank looks cool, although I still stand by light armour not being as useful as a helmet and an extra attack (s4 everywhere).

I'd also try to get twin Brethren with bows for dealing with chaff units + dealing with daemonic instability, but that might be expensive + unfluffy. Perhaps next game...
>>
>>52020607
also be aware that an skaven player that knows what they're doing will run rings around you...

slings are good
>>
>>52020104

Yeah but you could have all of these things from a full wall. Like that >>52019667 image.
You can have men in the middle of the wall and towers that point outward. It would also be easier for them to carve it all from a pre-existing wall rather than pick a spot in a cavern and build one. When the camera pans over it would have to become opaque to see the units but other than that it would work the same.

The simple fact is CA got a bit lazy here and just have sieges a Dwarf skin. I'm hopeful they'll fix it down the road.
>>
>>52020853

Whoops I meant transparent not opaque obviously.
>>
>>52020804
> I still stand by light armour not being as useful as a helmet and an extra attack (s4 everywhere).
Are you saying that I should drop the light armour + shield and get him an additional weapon and helm? Also, where from would I get the S4?

>I'd also try to get twin Brethren with bows for dealing with chaff units + dealing with daemonic instability, but that might be expensive + unfluffy. Perhaps next game...

I was planning on aquiring some brethren down to road and though I hadn't considered bows on them that seems like a fine suggestion. As far as I'm aware there's no fluff reason not to have them ranged. The empire, in which the setting takes place have nothing against ranged warfare and neither does chaos forces necessarily as the nomads of the eastern steppes practice horse archery IIRC. As such bow wielding imperial followers of Nurgle should be perfectly fine.

Ugh, don't remind me. Slings are the most overused thing in Mordheim. They were far too spammable for their cost.

I do like how the most sympathetic vampires are the hideous monstrosities.
I'd love to use Strigoi in WFRP alongside Strigany, but it's a bit obvious. Turns out 'the peasants' ignorance and superstition is actually bang on the money' doesn't make a great mystery.
