Good rares and uncommons so far. We aren't into the bulk yet, and that's gonna drive the estimated value through the floor.

I was thinking about the upshift in Snapcaster's rarity and how it was bullshit. Then thought about it some more using Gravedigger and Archaeomancer as a benchmark.

I'm assuming each jump in rarity gives you an extra point in "goodness", which could be an ability, flexibility, or discount in mana. So Snapcaster at Rare gets two free bits of goodness and at Mythic gets three bits of goodness.

So basically Snapcaster Mage is just either of those cards but:
- 1 mana discount
- another 1 mana discount
- Flash
- you have to cast the spell immediately
- a difference in P/T; a 2/1 is better than a 1/2 and there isn't much difference between a 2/1 and a 2/2

So as a Rare we already blow through the 2-point goodness allotment with the mana alone. Flash is often free and I would say that Flash balances the downside of having to cast it immediately to having the spell go to your hand.

Snapcaster shouldn't be a Mythic. Hell, an argument could be made for it to be an Uncommon. If Snapcaster was an Uncommon it wouldn't break Limited at all.

Wizards has dialed back on their official modern support significantly in the past month.

MM3 is packed with a whole host of cards that needed reprinting, and there are still 2 more days of spoilers left. At this point, Wizards is just checking off cards to reprint.

MM3 has a much larger printing than 1 and 2.

Basically, it feels like Wizards is having a fire sale. Get all your modern staples now, because after this, we're focusing on Standard.

They are focusing super hardcore on Standard but not because Modern is dead. They're focusing super hard in Standard because Standard is in critical condition and despite Hasbro demanding R&D to stop it with the NWO bullshit and print sets people actually want to play, Amonkhhet block is already finished and Atlazan is way past playtesting and into the late stages of packaging design.

I think Masters sets make too much money for Wizards to stop anytime soon. Way I see it, MM15 was more of a litmus test to see how shitty they could make a set and still have sales. They'll keep doing this because demand for Eternal is always growing and so demand for these products will always be high. The reason people say "dies to bolt" is a bad thing is because of mana efficiency. You don't want to spend 3,4 or even 5 mana on a creature if it can be taken care of by a 1 mana spell. Being as efficient as possible is important in Grindt matchups like Jund or tempo decks like delver. Unless it has some other way of getting you value such as an ETB effect like say thragtusk or Pia and Kiran, paying a bunch of mana for something that "dies to bolt" is a risky inclusion in a deck. So the "does to bolt" argument doesn't really apply to deathrite, because it only costs 1 mana. It's an even trade, 1 mana and 1 card for 1 mana and 1 card. It makes even less sense to complain about it dying to magma jet since that costs twice as much.

Deathrite is birds most of the time. But it also does a Grim Lavamancer impression for those times when you have to kill the other guy. And without any good reason it also completely fucks graveyard-based decks in a way that maindeck Relic could never do.

It also has a hybrid mana cost and an Elf. It's the one mana Planeswalker. Best creature ever printed for constructed bar none. Goes into more decks than Goyf ever will so long as there are fetchlands; I can play it in Elves, Delver, Burn, Jund, Junk.
