Getting sexually excited over Lion reking Curze edition
Ninja Warrior 30k subedition

Last thread anon asked after the post, Custodes dreads ALWAYS get 7Ds on the charge, anons dreadclaw ate a paint pot adorably and anon designed the fortress to surpass iron gear, er, cage. Night Lords are universally considered the worst legion and anon posted his awful, awful space wolves that people got mad at a full 11 hours later. Boggle eyes are just weird. What's the general consensus on Aaron Dembski-Bowden's writing?

My father always told me to never trust a man with a hyphenated last name. But 'The First Heretic' sexually aroused me.
>>
>>51964718
he's polarizing

I don't really like his books much.
>>
>>51964718
Excellent writing, poor stories. If that makes sense.
>>
For those that missed it at the tail end of last thread, plastic Mk III and tartaros are being released as separate kits, for typical GW prices (i.e. much more than you pay if you get BoP or get the kits off ebay.)

Everyone sucked his cock until Master of Mankind and now to a bunch of the people who post on the subject he's the most tumblr/sjw/reddit/buzzword thing ever.

Bear in mind where you are when that kind of opinion comes up.

The reality of his quality as a writer is that he's a qood writer with a limited toolbox where character realisation is concerned with a firm belief on the Bad Ending of the setting, and everyone finally noticed.

Too much of daddy issue when dealing with the Emprah and the Primarchs. And he doesn't know how to write about Loyalists.

His Night Lord stuff is really cool IMHO.
>>
>>51964819
Well that's funny considering how much everyone moaned when we heard ADB got to write the first book on the Emperor.

That shit is either ironic or by newfriends.
>>
>>51964718
I quite like his books, some people hate his 'muh snowflake waifu' characters but I didn't really notice them until /tg/ pointed them out. They are usually secondary characters with a few people in front of them with regards to page time. While some people do I don't consider it to be tumblr tier writing.

His Night Lord series are good, as is Helsreach (one of my fave warhammer books) and the Horus Heresy books of his that I have read.

Is it possible to have a squadron of two Phobos Land Raiders, one with a choppy squad and the other with a Primarch and maybe a Primus Medicae, drive them close to the enemy, disembark, have the Primarch and Medicae join the other squad, and assault as one unit?

As I understand it, an IC just has to move within 2" of a unit in the movement phase to join it and embarking and disembarking are done in the movement phase. So as long as the unit and ICs disembark so that they're within 2" of one another, they should be able to join.

How much black would be appropriate for a heresy-era chaplain? Should I just paint him in standard legion colours with some identifying markings like I did with my super apothecary?
>>
>>51965779
Just the shoulder pads maybe?
>>
>>51965779
I think he needs something to identify him as a chaplain otherwise it gets confusing as he is just another terminator. Your apothecary is really well painted but there is nothing that identifies him as such unless you look really close.
>>
> Legion pauldrons go on the right shoulder in certain cases
>My legion marking looks stupid and if facing the wrong way unless it is on the left.
Dammit.

Also, what's everyone's favourite unit? Not necessarily good, maybe just aesthetically.
Hard Mode: Not legion specific.
>>
>>51965779

They're not just Mongols, they're the primary stand-in legion for everything Oriental.
>>
>>51966749
Those don't look remotely Japanese. And Mongol swords often looked a lot like that - sabers with more curve to them, but not as much as a scimitar would have. Good for use from horseback.

But yeah, they've got parallels to feudal Japan (all the arts and crafts samurai practiced in their downtime) and China (their Taoist-ish philosophy and Art of War-like proverbs).

So do the Reductor fleets show up in any fluff at all? Seems like a hugely powerful, self-sufficient armada of Tech-priest Iron Warriors who are better company would show up and get shit done more often than just Decima. They were mostly Loyalist, I can see a huge Reductor fleet engaging the Traitors in a glorious naval battle.

I like that their job description is "when the Legions are being a bunch of pussies because something is more dangerous than a Militia Conscript, you go solve that problem".
>>
>>51967295
The bald custodian head had a real egyptian feel and fit really nicely in tartaros armour. The sword is a tomb guard halberd jammed on the termie sabre and I cut the guard off. Made sense that the best telekien in the sons would lead a raptora arcana sekhmet group.

I wonder what the FW book with the White Scars will cover. Tempest did cover just one new legion (UM), so it's a possible template - but I think the UM have enough fans to be the only new army in a book and the WS don't.

If it's anything like the WS novels, it would also cover the Emperor's Children as they become more and more debauched and daemonic. The Death Guard are also in those books, but they haven't changed yet.

The Sagyar Mazan could be featured alongside Shadrak Meduson and friends, which means Dwell and Molech could be in the same book. That means daemonic SoH, Slaaneshi knights, Imperial Army, a few UM and BA.

I think he just wanted to be happy, dying with his brothers and sisters was the best case scenario he could think of so he got fixated on that, but didn't realize that nothing would satisfy him.

It's my interpretation of why he never commits suicide even though he's so perpetually miserable.

I really love the idea of a walking tank. Be it in vidya or tabletop, I always loved bulky, massively armored guys, and breachers are top notch on that point. Slow unstoppable juggernauts, Mankind's relentless advance among the stars.

The Last Son of Prospero, spoiled:
One of the many shards of Magnus's psychic remains is on earth, so Malcador tries to use Arvida's body (in the last stages of the flesh change) to bring Magnus back so he can sit on the Golden Throne. It doesn't quite work - the Magnus-shard does merge with Arvida, but the result is something in between - with the name of Arvida's tutelary, Ianius. i.e. Janus.

So the tutelaries were probably Magnus-shards from the start, and the new creature tells Malcador sorry for not being Magnus because they both know he's now going to end up dying.
>>
>>51968848
Yeah, accepted it for BoP since it was fair enough and launched before force weapon termies and just bought some left armies and blades from the 40k set.
>>
>>51969032
Interesting about the tutelaries though they still seem more like warp entities since they actively try to force some sons to go out of control and perils. Maybe they are like the beings that exist between the golden throne barrier and the warp, just neutral beings of raw power.

Also even if Magnus sat on the throne it would still be broken since he fried the circuitry on it.

The Magnus shard and Ianius are theoretically distinct beings, see also Khayon's wold and the TS from Unchanged's chesire cat tutelary.

I think what the shard meant when he likened himself (itself?) to the tutelary was more complex than that, not just 'lol all eleventy-thousand of them are tiny bits of my power cast backwards in time that developed personalities'
I mean, I think that's probably possible too, just that it's more wrapped up in Tzeentchy shit than simple cause and effect.

Is there any fluff in the big books about the significance of the helmet crests for squad leaders? Specifically Imperial Fists?

I was thinking of dividing my tactical squads up with blue, green, and red markings, and I'm wondering if a green helmet with a white plume would look better than a red helm with a green plume.

They aren't Viking at all actually, they were celtic and usually part of the depiction of birds on helmets or actual wings since celts adorned metalwork with stylised animals. Same with horns on helmets, don't know why it ever got associated with vikings though perhaps valkyries and germanic depictions of norse myth presented them as such.

Sue-zerains have gold wings on the nose, beakie-style, whereas DA have them on the side of the head, generally white or feather-coloured IIRC
>>
>>51970441
Might want to use the Ravenwing Knights helmet wings, the DA ones are pretty huge.
>>
>>51970565
Those have a much more distinct DA style to them and are part of the MkVI helmet (I know they're separate from the main body of the helmet, but the wing bits contain the sides of the helmet, so they don't just apply to any old helmet without some work).
>>
>>51970536
It's not too DA, it's too goofy. The wings look too big. But it worked well on the old Blood Bowl human team; they had small wings on their helmets. So I do like the concept, just not sure the DA bits are reasonable enough.

Question about the "more infantry units than tank units" restriction some legions have. Do HQ choices count as an extra infantry unit for this, (obviously assuming they're not riding some form of bike, or are a damocles rhino,) even if you're going to add them to a squad? My understanding is they only get added to a squad (becoming a single unit) during deployment, and this restriction is at the list-building stage before that, but wanted to check.

FW and BL coordinated their fluff with each other. That was one of Laurie Goulding's jobs, and he arrived about a year before FW Book 1. There were already 15+ BL HH books by then, so there could've been discrepancies with those.

Any differences after that are just the same story told from a different perspective. And yes, sometimes with a better writer.

The expand greatly in detail the whole first section of the battle of Prospero and add some new stuff, then the middle part is exactly the same as the events of A Thousand Sons, and then in the last part the narrator says so much warp and psychic shit was flying about that everyone on the Imperial side had different perceptions of what happened, down to complete discrepancies like some people swore X happened and some other people said that was bullshit.

It also notes the info about what was happening on the TS side is based entirely on prisoner statements and vox transmissions.

I don't generally support recasting, but it sounds like GW would make more money from you if you did buy recasts from China alongside a (real) plastic box set and maybe the occasional genuine FW purchase. Reddit has more info, or look up GW bases on Aliexpress and PM the vendors.

Betrayal at Calth is more useful for most armies than Burning of Prospero. Radio Free Isstvan (podcast) had a special episode sometime back about what to do with the box and some ideas on what should come next. The box basically gives you a decent Pride of the Legion list that just needs some mobility.

Most infantry, dreadnoughts, the Land Raider Phobos, and super-heavy tanks (including the Spartan) have a decent GBP/points ratio (>3). Bikes, Land Speeders, Rhinos (and stuff on that chassis), and Drop Pods are on the lower end of the affordability scale. The Land Raider Phobos is actually decent, especially with the Pride of the Legion rite of war because veteran squads can be less than 10 strong, which leaves enough room for a character. Do try to spend the extra $20 on the FW Mk. IIb for the 30k aesthetic. No, you absolutely don't have to, but of all the vehicles that have 40k GW and 30k FW versions that one is the least expensive to "upgrade" to the old-school look. It's less worthwhile to get FW Rhinos, Bikes, etc. - just get the plastic ones. But even those are poor points/money value.
>>
>>51971959
Play Daemons. Just don't go overboard on the summoning, use the AoD force org chart, and make something fitting for the ruinstorm with some BaC word bearers as allies

They're a little cheaper because they and DG (and maybe SW now that they have troops with extra running) are somewhat viable without transports. Rhinos and Drop pods are expensive in money vs. points. Your firebase needs termies (Siege Tyrants) and terminators are generally cost effective.

Anons, I'm gearing up to provide a recasting service based in the US and am considering a box of Prospero/Calth size. Featuring 3 squads of tacticals, 5 cataphracti's and perhaps a Leviathan Siege dreadnought among special weaponry or other assorted goods.

For a box, what would be the optimal contents for around 3-5 squads with one or two vehicle options included?

The price point has yet to be decided, I'm aiming to undercut the regular boxes by 20-30 dollars.

Eh, as long as BaC and BoP are still in production I'd rather pay the extra $20-$30 and save all the cleanup required with resin.

Mk II, V, and VI is where you have a real opportunity - and/or assault marines, breachers, outriders, jetbikes, and javelins.
>>
>>51972167
Yeah brah.
Use all those missile launchers to make an iron havoc squad.
Buy cyclone missile launchers bits to make Siege Tyrants out of B@C terminators.
The Terminator Praetor is literally the special character Golg in all but name.
Give one of the chaplains a fancy long antenna backpack. BAM master of signals.
Give the other termie (or chaplain) a thunder hammer. Or whatever. BAM Siege breaker.
EBay it up for some old IG Medusa/artillery. EBay again for some more termies (tartaros are cheap now).
That's your army anon. Save up for Pert Plus.

Thallax are very much a utility unit. They block infiltrators, mess up skimmers, jump around claiming objectives and generally being a nuisance. Using them to pop transports so your medusas can do work is a solid tactic, as is deep striking them danger close to backfield artillery.
Arvi might be a better choice for the hoplites than triaros, as they'll save you 60pts each (which you can put into a djinn skein for artillery spotting), unless you're going for a more ground based force or planning to use them for anti-air.
>>
>>51972736
i feel like you're overcommitting with the melee secutarii, the haywire is nice but 30 of them is a bit much
>>
>>51972920
I considered the Arvus, but Turn 2 dropping a bunch of guys with haywire guns straight into enemy lines seemed just a little to Waac for me. But then again, 1 probably isn't too overpowered.

Do you have any experience using them?
>>
>>51972974
>implying you don't want 30 haywire attacks on the charge

However, you make a good point. 10-12 should be sufficient, and it'll save some points too.

Not personally, but I imagine they work in a pretty straightforward manner. One suicide arvus squad (remember transport cap of 12) should be a big deterrent to spartanstars, though a convoy of triarii rolling up the field and chewing up everything in their way does have a certain charm...

My thought too.

The original plan was the Triarii rolling up in the hood and hitting anything that looks at it funny with some S16 goodness, then the (pseudo-deathstar) of gravmidons+Dominus and Hoplites jump out and shoot anything to death that's left.

Plus the Triarii and Knights will be fire magnets from the start, things go well then the Thallax can get into prime raping position while photonmidons and artillery just shell the hell out of everything left.

Maybe I should drop the additional Hoplites, grab a fourth Photonmidon, a Djinn-Skein, and then pimp out what's left. That sounds good

You're gonna be an infantry based legion focusing on close range fights both via shooting and assaulting, special/combi weapons are you're friends as they can fill many roles, Anti-Infantry (flamers), Anti MEQ/TEQ (plasma) and Anti-armour (melta)

The main vehicles you're gonna want are any of which can help to get you into position such as drop pods (Legion, Anvillus, Kharybdis,) Storm Eagles, and other assault based transport. Dreadnoughts with pods are also good for applying pressure. Give them the Leviathan treatment

As for actual infantry, Tacticals, Tactical Support, Veterans, Terminators,mJustaerin, Reavers (be careful with this one as they're already as pricey at 135 pts for 5 marine bodies)

But even then though, the LW/SoH can still be built however you want, this is just my advice for taking advantage of their special rules.

Why do people keep posting this picture? It's cool, but it's been almost a month since this started to get randomly dropped.

Real talk though, the Immortals are doomed. The Chainaxes will do their damage, probs 2-3 killed per turn, but the dreadnoughts will do the real damage. From eyeballing, I give the IH 2 turns, 3 if the Emperor is smiling on them.

Are you the IH player here? I play them too, and I gotta know what that special guy is up front, he looks really cool. Plus what's with the Centurion head on the Immortal? I tried that exact one on mine, but they look way, way too small. What magic did you pull

Perhaps give it the non-D weapons? At least keep one of them

Thanks anon.

>Oh yeah, there's totally a Titan just off the side of the map, this battlefield is representative of a small engagement in a larger theatre
>We were separated from our Titan by enemy shenanigans, we're fighting to get back to it/discover its fate
>The titan is landing/getting repaired/being put together just a few hundred miles behind us, we're making sure the enemy doesn't get near it

Fluffy secutarii.

Good to know I'm not far off the mark then.

on the subject of mechanicum, I've been looking at what to eventually fill out my allied detachment of it with, current plan sits at archmagos dominus (converted cawl from the triumvirate), 2 darkfire castellax, 2 vultarax and a thanatar.

not sure what to do with the second troop slot or the elites, Primary detachment legion is Raven Guard, so the boops have been pulling duty as mobile heavy support. (going for a kiavahr mech-guilds color scheme, will be posting first vultarax when the paint's done)

yes I'm the RG anon with the semi-disgusting local meta

the D is only generated on a 6 to hit, so its not as scary as it could be

I really want to know how they do that brass.

Be careful Anon. I once took two Vultarax to a game and it ended in complete annihilation of enemy vehicles very quickly. They then proceeded to murder all the infantry due to mass accurate shredding large blasts. You may lose friends here

Would it be too far-fetched if a Loyalist TS contingent (one of those groups Magnus sent away before the Yiffs arrived) fought alongside a small group of Custodes after the Imperium noticed Nikaea was a mistake and re-allowed Librarians (even if unofficially)?

pre-Ullanor, nearly all the legions rolled with Custodes (before they found their Primarchs though)

so you can basically have any Legion if you use pre-Ullanor fluff
