What are your thoughts on having willpower as a stat?
Better than having luck as a stat.

Its called wisdom.

In what system? It kind of already is in DnD with will saves
>>51951258
I like it, as long as it's not a god stat that everyone needs to put points into in order to contribute.

True.

In what way is wisdom anything like will?
>>51951720
It's not, that part of D&D has never made any goddamn sense to me. Wisdom covers perception, willpower, and some kind of vague "intuition" garbage, three (and probably more) completely unrelated concepts. It's almost as bad as having that single Dexterity stat.

Real life studies show willpower depletes, though some people have more of it, and some people have to use it on different tasks than others.
White wolf's "spend a temporary willpower" is more on point than anything that has it as a stat you just roll.

Willpower souls be more like HP.
I've been tossing around ideas for Revenant type system where Willpower is the only stat, but also the meta-currency, the ability resource, and your HP.
>Revenants cannot die from injury
>they can, however, lose sight of their goal or lose themselves in pursuit of it
>most actions cost some amount of willpower
>most feats/edges/advantages are memories or personality traits that reduce or eliminate willpower costs for certain actions
>can use will to reroll things, do narrative stuff, resist attacks/debuffs, deal massive damage, recover from dismemberment, activate supernatural powers, or use and boost skills
>also lose a small amount for each round of combat unrelated to your purpose
>losing all willpower means you go back to rest
>or you can permanently sacrifice a memory/personality trait to get some will back and continue
>but losing all of those makes you a mindless automaton NPC

i feel like it works best as a passive and not active stat. a kind of bottom bar or safety net against certain kinds of psychological threats that /maybe/ you can borrow against in only the most dire circumstances.
