It's alright. Death's Shadow is showing up a lot but I think the meta and players can adjust. I'm sure someone will complain that blue control isn't the number one deck as always though

Not as awful as they once were

Remember this product has to:
- have a lot of good reprints in all rarities without cluttering dogshit like Comet Storm or Kamigawa Dragons
- be available in huge quanities
- 36 packs per box
- have regular MSRP

If all these conditions, then it's a steaming pile of fucking shit and you should be ashamed for buying it and perpetuating this cycle of shit Masters product. This product line has historically been the most anti-consumer relative to its purpose, which presumably has been to make Modern more accessible, and they make no effort to change their shit design this past five years because people keep fucking buying it.

If you're going to flame me back, justify why you think this product isn't allowed to be better than it is. inb4 phoneposters poorfag/u mad

Go and look at the rares in MM15. What we've seen today already kicks the shit out of that garbage set. It may be trash in the end, but signs point to it being slightly less trash than the previous MM. And some people are just going to buy singles, and are happy these reprints might make a dent in their prices.

Didn't shit like Infinity cost about half the price it is now?
>>
>>51938546
>Infinity

Did you mean Affinity? Yes, it used to be way cheaper but prices increase when new players want the deck and you dont reprint cards.

These reprints mean that their price will decrease but they have the effect of creating an increase in demand later on, which will push back prices up or even higher. This wouldnt happen if this wasnt a limited print run set.
>>
>>51938608
This.

>lets reprint zen fetches in a limited run
>but khans fetches were reprinted in a regular block
>lol who the fuck cares buy more packs goyim
>>
>>51938430
I've tweaked it from the original list but I find most matches you just have to Mulligan if you can't put pressure on. You really don't wanna be the control
>>
>>51938546
Don't worry anon, the single prices actually drop for a spell and do stay lower than they would without these reprints, it's just some Jewing around with some cards like Tarmogoyf that fucks things around, and the fact that some much needed cards didn't get the reprints they needed last round on grounds of the fact that MM15 was utter dogshit.

About a month or so after the set drops is when the singles should be at their all time low, as I recall. Then they'll rise slightly, but supply generally beats out demand unless you're Mox Opal and some idiots popularized Lantern Control.
>>
>>51938546
>but it probably means I'll be paying more for a modern deck if I want to play.
That's not how reprints work bub, you'll see a window where you can get everything for cheaper and make money too
>>
>>51938677
That's not how economy works in mtg either apparently though, I mean has anyone here ever had any trouble getting any of the modern cards they wanted? Because I never had a single problem getting any of the original legacy/vintage dual lands either yet apparently there is a scarcity of them that makes them worth 100€+/card.
>>
>>51938710
What are you talking about? After reprints most of the modern cards see a dip in price aka the window I was talking about and then start rising afterwards. Don't know why you even replied to me desu

>>51938983
Well you've really got to build your whole deck around blood moon if you want to use it, so if tron ever becomes too strong people can just build more aggressive decks rather than blood moon decks anyway. Cards that keep decks in check don't really work unless you can slot them into your deck without major changes.

>>
>>51939049
this is a good joke
only playable deck that runs Blood Moon in Legacy is Sneak and Show, as a sideboard card

the card really needs to be build around. Sneak and Show doesn't give a fuck about the drawback because it needs 2U and force backup (someitmes) to nearly win the game on the spot
and it's secondary wincon requires all R to cast and use anyway
>>
>>51939198
>Implying Miracles doesn't run Blood Moon
>>
>>51938813
Last MM wsa generally regarded as trash since everything was mythic and the set had no little to no value outside the mythics.

>karn dropped for a little bit but rose around ogw
>same thing with bitterblossom
>emrakul fell but is on the rise right now

Even if there isn't insider trading in the sense of people knowing about reprints beforehand and using that info to do buyouts etc(though I assume there is) the fact that starcity and the like consistently buyout cards(standard/modern fringe cards) to artificially inflate prices and restrict availability is criminal and would be heavily prosecuted in the "real world".

The claim investors make, which actually has some solid ground behind it, is that they purchase the largest amount of sealed product, which is very positive for the game store retailers and helps keep them afloat, and game stores are really the life blood of this game. I've never heard a solid argument for how speculating on singles helps the game other than retarded claims about infamy and collectibility insuring longevity, but the collectors/investors actually do have a mild impact when they decide to pre-order 10-20 booster boxes

There's far more players than investors though, by a massive margin. Investors don't even come close to purchasing the most sealed product.
>>
>>51945068
Not a single player buys directly from a distributor. You're delusional. Next time you go to your lgs ask them how many cases they open to get you your singles you buy.
>>
>>51945098
Those aren't investors, that's retarded. Buying from a distributor with the intent to resell ASAP isn't investing in product. And in any case my LGS gets most of its singles from MTGO redemption in actuality.
>>
HOW DO I MODERN EGGS?

No, really, how? You can play a janky eggs deck in standard atm using (Totally not an Atog) Ravenous Intruder and I want deck like that to play.
>>
>>51945098
I was speaking to my lgs owner about this. Theyre an advanced store and we were talking about a recent video by Rogue Deckbuilder where Kevin was complaining about margins on product and getting jerked around on supply by distributors. I mentioned that Kevin was allocated 24 boxes of the latest set and the LGS owner was taken aback? "Only 24 boxes? Is it even a WPN store?"
>>
>>51945119
Lgs' are the main investors you retard, when you buy a box from them they are literally selling potential loss to you.
>>
>>51945157
If I'm buying a box from the LGS I'm the purchaser of the product, the LGS is just an intermediary. They're not investing in a box they sell to me, no more than a super market invests in beef or vegetables.

Yes, core sets no longer exist.
We now have two blocks per year, and every fall, the two oldest blocks in the format rotate.
Currently, Standard is comprised of the Battle for Zendikar, Shadows over Innistrad, and Kaladesh blocks, with Amonkhet coming in April.
BFZ and SOI will rotate when the block after Amonkhet enters the format in September.
>>
>>51945202
>grocery store isn't a beef investor
>this means they're not a business
you 'investor' fags really think the world revolves around you
>>
>>51945148
Being a lowest level WPN store seems like its simply suffering for the sake of it. My LGS is an old gaurd max level WPN where a few modern day pros cut their teeth and I know the family who owns it. They spend hours cracking boxes to make sure it stays succesful and its annoying when people say places like this dont deserve to profit from their labor because they have bought 6 booster boxes before.
>>
>>51945217
ok thanks. that clears it up a bit. its strange though, i thought having core sets was a good idea, a good backbone so to speak.
So what do you mean when a block roates then? That it goes out of standard format?

what?
there is no such thing, goyf is far and away the best at what it does - be an efficient, splashable 2cmc beater

actually, one of the newer, hot decks in modern (Death's Shadow) runs goyf as a 4-of, and that he is still trending downwards is somewhat surprising. I can only anticipate this is because people think he will be in MM3. (same thing happened to hierarch a week or so ago)
>>
>>51946903
The people who want goyfs have them, mostly. The "new deck" is a combination of mostly old pieces that were already played. I don't think DS jund is making people run off to buy goyfs.

Maybe DS and Traverses and Tarfires, but not the goyfs.

Merfolk coincidentally plays a lot of good interaction, like harbinger and vapor snag, while building to a lethal board state that ends the game in one swing. It doesn't matter if every single card in this set is good, the fact that the supply is limited and the price is higher than a usual box means the whole point of this exercise of reprints doesn't accomplish in a meaningful way what it is supposed to do, increase access to the format.

A Core store gets about six cases, that's six boxes/case equals 36 boxes.

A given Mythic only shows up once approximately every 100 packs. That means that for a playset of Mythics, which is about four boxes of MM; you need to open 400 packs or 16 boxes to get yourself a playset.

So for a given Mythic, in a Core store's allotment, that means they're going to get about 9 of any given Mythic. That's TWO playsets.

Two playsets to be split between a community, a community of people consisting of older players and newer players. And each Mythic is not going to allow a player to create a deck.

Consider also that a Rare shows up twice as often as a Mythic. That means approximately only four people are going to get their playsets of whatever fetchland they need.

Good reprints in the set are not enough. They're not printing enough fucking volume. Unless for some reason people think it's unreasonable to want to own more than one deck. If players are limited to owning one deck I guess this product is just fine.

Baka desu senpai, people will be wanting to get into modern so they will be buying these cards :^)
>>
Did we ever decide if Leyline of Sanctity is good sideboard tech vs Death's Shadow?
>>
>>51957949
Opening a Bonfire of the Damned is going to do jackshit for them, then.
>>
>>51957990
Its spicy sideboard tech in GR Tron
>>
>>51957959
Leylines are always bad use of sideboard space
>>
>>51958063
Leyline of the Void is still good
RIP is better in most decks, but decks that utilize their GY like CoCo and Grishoalbrand are gonna want Leyline
>>
>>51958063

What white cards would be good against Death's Shadow then? I feel like packing more removal is moot when they run 8 discards

Is G/B tron a meme, or legit?

Also, how is New-Emrakul as a finisher, and help against combo?

New Emmy is pretty spicy if you play her with Ugin's Nexus
>>
>>51958262
Abrupt decayed or taken out of hand
>>
>>51957165
You say this like the boxes have spiked in price. They're still $200 and you're still too poor for one
>>
>>51958379
It also doesn't stop the 5/6 Gouf that came down down turn 2.

Spirit Link
>gets decayed or inquisitioned
a bloo bloo, might as well just fucking say every card is bad against death's shadow and every other GBx deck. Clearly this deck is unbeatable and everyone should just stop playing modern because Death's Shadow is LITERALLY™ the BEST DECK EVER™
>>
>>51958757
Your ass pain doesn't change the fact that the deck is the best deck in modern
>>
>>51958793
>a deck that demands you put yourself within Bolt range to win is the best deck
Keep telling yourself that retard.

Fuck off back to your kitchen table meta. You've clearly never played with our against the deck

People where I live play regular Jund, because its actually a good deck and not a shit jank fart trash dumpster fire.
>>
>>51958897
Tiers are usage based. Plus the results you've shown are good.
Jund is straight up inferior to death's shadow
>>
>>51946903
>one of the newer, hot decks in modern (Death's Shadow) runs goyf as a 4-of

Yes and these people lose because they don't need another four beaters that do absolutely nothing, other than be big, when that's exactly what their whole deck is designed around playing for B. Grim Flayer is infinitely better because of trample plus pseudo scry in exchange for a slight loss in late game power. I only run 2 at the most and it's usually what I sideboard out.
>>
>>51959063
Wow that's just wrong
>>
>>51959063
Theres a reason Ghor Clan and Temur Battle Rage are in the deck.

What are the swords for?
>>
>>51960650

Sticking on one of the 16 flyers to swing for lethal.
>>
>>51960673
wouldn't the standard swords be preferable in that case?
>>
>>51960786

What are "standard swords"? I'm not familiar with this term.
>>
>>51960794
light and shadow and fire and ice
>>
>>51960809

I really do want to try Fire and Ice, but i'm too broke buying all the other cards in this deck to shell out anything more.

An advantage of Hatebears is I often prevent my opponent from playing or slow them down enough to where they have a lot of cards in hand, thus allowing War and Peace the possibility of hitting like a brickhouse.

Just by looking at it, seems like a solid monowhite taxes.
Here are a few concessions with limited experience so take with a grain of salt:

-How do you find 23 lands? How often are you flooded? With Restos it seems fine, if you have been having too lands though try out 22.

-I would go 1 Sword but I'm a shitlord.
If you want to be a swag lord u need 1 war and peace 1 light and shadow for dem extra layers

-Blade Splicer seems weak in a taxes deck since it doesn't tax. I think some number of them is alright since it's a great card but would try replacing one with newThalia

-Would run 1-2 less Spirit, really great card but he plays a supporting role for your other stars, and with 4 it seems likely that you'd have a grip full of sidekicks.

-The playset of Angels seems mana costly but I could be very wrong. Just seems bulky, but it could be core to the deck. Would maybe trim and go to 22 lands but thats my shit opinion.

Since my LGS is pretty fucking casual, I'm sleeving up Infect for one more week.

Just to get the last bit of joy from it before it really hits <1% meta
>>
>>51960910

Thanks for the feedback, I never even considered cutting Blade Splicer, it's just such a common staple and good flicker target.

I'm not sure there would be enough good targets for Flickerwisp and Resto Angel without her.
>>
>>51960992
Has infect really gotten that bad?
>>
Is snake deck a meme?

Seems pretty good in testing
>>
>>51961069
True with all that flicker it is much better, didn't consider valuetown
>>
>>51961418
It felt really bad when I tried it
>>
>>51961253
probeless Infect is still a strong deck, it's just more vulnerable to being blown out when going all-in on turn 2-3. The best replacement for Git Probe that I've come across someone using was Surgical Extraction to hit their opponents removal once they'd gotten the first glistener elf with a bolt or whatever.
>>
>>51961604
Would UBG be decent in this situation, then? Phyrexian Crusader has a lot of resistance to most of the removal found in Modern.
>>
>>51961632
I imagine it might stress the manabase as double black is pretty restrictive, but I don't see why splashing for Phyrexian Crusader couldn't be made to work. Like you said, it does have the benefit of dodging a lot of the removal in the format.

I'm not an infect expert or anything though so take my opinion with a grain of salt.
