That pose, though. It's not just me, right? It looks really unbalanced, like that eagle statue head is just begging someone to give it a kick from under his foot and topple him right on his face.

Since when? Did the Mechanicus miss all those new captain and Sternguard vet models?

His right foot is not bent enough/his torso is not leaning forward enough to support that pose. GW should really stop trying to force dynamic poses.
>>
>>51937751

That bling was likely done by chapter techmarines and artificers.

Mechanicus supply them a clean plain suit and then centuries later it's covered head to toe in bling and purity seals because Space Marines are secretly all Xzibit.

No. This is a lead in to a major new edition of the game. They aren't blowing up the universe entirely, ala AoS, but they are heavily disrupting the status quo we've had for decades.

They've already used plastic Mk IV, plastic Mk III, plastic Tartaros, and plastic Cataphractii, so they have nothing left to keep up the profits they're earning but to try AoS shit

Why is this surprising to Guilliman? He was around for a thousand years after the HH. He would have been around long enough for the Ecclisiarchy to start assimilating other cults and wars of faith between rivals cults.
If anything he should be happy that at least that department has, more or less, settled down under one roof.
>>
>>51938832
>Expecting GW to put fluff consistency over DRAMA and ANGST
Anon prease.
Also the autists who still think new 40k fluff is worth buying want "Not Muh Emprah's Vision ;_;" which they won't get if it happened when it logically would.
>>
>>51937973
They probably slapped a few on his armor before he was revived and he can't see the one left on his ass to remove it.

>okay who the fuck covered me in wax and scrollwork?
>>
>>51937973
Oaths of Moment are a Legion tradition, where Marines would write out either a deed or a vow on a piece of parchment and then place it upon their armor. It's as much a psychological and spiritual reminder for the Marine himself as it is a display of his devotion.
>>
>>51938832
I think that was the case though? While (last I recall) Guilliman's exact moment of being put in stasis is unclear on the timeline, he wouldn't have been around when the Ecclisiarchy really started doing that.

It wasn't really until the Nova Terra Interregnum did they actually become a real power in charge of the Imperium. During Guilliman's time active there would have definitely been cults, but nothing of any real power.
>>
>>51939659
The Ecclisiarchy became the state religion about a thousand years after the HH ended. Unless he got his throat slashed within a couple centuries, he would have definitely been around for inter-cult wars of faith.
>>
>>51938256

>>
>>51937973

Thirteen. Because he's the Thirteenth Primarch.

They're doing a thing. Although it'd be better is they did a triskaidekaphobia thing, where the number 13 is represented 13 times on the piece.
>>
>>51938256
I so fucking hate that the new depiction of primarchs are fucking giants, even compared to space marines.
it just feels stupid to me. even the upscaled custodes was a mistake in my opinion. they should have been a tiny bit taller, with the primarchs being one head taller than the marines and it would still convey an air of epicness.
>>
>>51943840

He's a giant because he's in a giant suit.
>>
>>51939768
>The Ecclisiarchy became the state religion about a thousand years after the HH ended
guilliman has been in stasis for 9,000 years, they mention it a few times

chances are he was what was keeping the ecclesiarchy from being a legitimate power in the Imperium
>>
>>51943795
>>51943817

Thanks for the correction! Please forgive me, but I seem to be out of the loop. I haven't heard anything about him in the new narrative. Does anyone know what his motives are? Is he now best buddies with big G? How did that come about?

It's like one of those bands that go around a woman's thigh, it's meant to symbolize virginity.
>>
>>51937834
>Can you tell me what EPS stands for?
It's when the bean counters are calling the shots instead of the creative types.
Public listing (and the pressures that come from it) are a bad idea for a company that is involved in creative endeavors.
>>

>Does anyone know what his motives are?
No.

>Is he now best buddies with big G?
No, they also make mention of that in the WD articles. G money doesn't trust him.

>How did that come about?
All we know for now is cypher shows up before guilliman heads to earth and wants to tag along.

>>51937932
>largely unaltered since 1988
RT->2e was a bigger shift in gears than this
2e->3e will likely also be a bigger change than this ends up being

3e and 4e also introduced a shitload of game changers. It's not until 5e/6e/7e that the setting actually bogged down and stagnated. get off of lawn
>>
>>51943840
they've pretty much alwaya been huge compared to regular marines. Alpharius and omegon where notable because they werent massive compared to their legions.

Unless they totally fuck this up, which they probably will if Black Library is any indication, this means Cypher isn't trustworthy.

Guilliman is an expert at reading people. The four Primarchs he respected most and felt would help the Imperium most all stayed loyal.

>>
>>51944795
I'm not a fan of super-size anything but I don't remember the whole "primarchs and the emperor are 10 times bigger than everyone else" being a thing 10 years ago.
That coupled with the slow base size increase we're seeing across the board (the last SoB releases being on 32 instead of 25 mil bases for instance) is weirdeing me out a little bit.

they WERE originally just as "giant" as marines

That's why calgar's gloves fit him, why ulrik can wear russ's hat, and why cypher could carry lion's sword around and it was the same size as a normal power sword. It's why older studio conversions of guys like horus and khan just use regular marine models as a base. It's why russ's original model is basically just a regular space marine.

the giant primarch stuff only became a thing with.. i want to say 4th or 5th edition and onwards
>>
>>51944716
It is an old sale trick to look good on the eyes of the shareholders. It last till one actually bothers to check. (No one does till it is almost too late)

Basically bigger models sell at higher prices, the production cost for said models is the same as a smaller one, but gains a larger profit from each sales.

Build hype, sales rise for a bit, then launch next Xbox huge model.

They are milking a dead cow with that tactic. It is an oddly banana republic trick.

My understanding is that the stores are far and away their largest single cost. They eat something like half of revenues, while accounting for about half of sales, so once you factor in half of the development and production costs as well they're losing money overall. I think the business model doesn't really work that well in the modern era, GW product alone struggles to carry stores. As a result they cut down to small one-man outfits, but those lack the space or staffing to support a proper gaming community. If they're going to keep them in the long run think they need to figure a way out of that bind by finding additional ways for stores to make money. That might be part of why Rountree has pushed specialist games in a big way and taken the license off FFG, so that the stores have more to offer than 40k and AoS alone, turning them into something closer to GW run FLGSs.
>>
>>51945792
I'm of the opinion that they should have gone the other way, ditching the smaller stores and focusing more on large distribution centers/battle bunkers. Places that people would willingly go to/organize events at just to have ready access to all the tables and terrain, while also serving as a hub to ship to independent retailers.
>>
>>51945583
If they actually sold things beside GW they could dick over local FLGS.

>>51945824
Exactly they need to stop their retarded ideas of GW only products they need to make them a place for people to actually bother to go there and play.

Make it social place, maybe even try on some stores to be the equivalent of the sports bar.
>>
>>51945824
>>51945884

Oh I agree. There's not much point in the stores if all they are is sales locations, the internet does that better and cheaper. I agree that selling other companies' products would help them a lot, as would bigger stores with a more active approach to community engagement. I wonder whether a more proactive approach with FLGSs would be a stronger model, with GW only running a handful of large battle bunkers themselves, while providing strong support to third party retailers who carry a lot of their stock, run their events, and even use their branding. Think more of a franchise model, rather than central management.
>>
>>51945994
But they are British. They have a genetic terror for the concept of franchise.
>>
>>51945792
But one man stores are actually the problem. They are empty and unwelcoming. No place to play and the redshirt doesn't really have the time for anything. They are a loss.

>>
>>51946063
>XIII
>eight

>>
>>51946009

True. I think the population density and small geographic scale of the UK has a fair bit to answer for in that regard. Fundamentally though, tying yourself to physical stores as a means of expansion means your growth is limited to opening as many as you can afford to, and means you eat the costs for every one that fails. Franchising FLGSs would make much more economic sense and allow them to focus their spending on promotion and support rather than wages and rents.

>>51946033

Why would you think I'm in favour of one man stores?
>>
>>51946053
He's in a big exosuit
>>
>>51946074
It also shows in thier shipping. Their absolute refusal to add tracking numbers in standard shipping.

If you live in a small town like those in the UK you can simply walk to the local post office and check if there is something there.

In a proper city, try to pull that without a tracking number and they will laugh at you.

Also they use UPS, they might think more expensive = better, the only explanation for using them as a courrier

Regarding the size of the Primarchs and all that, I'm an oldfag who was very much into WH40k around 1998-2004, but have since only played some of the video games. I feel a bit cringy thinking back to how obsessed I was with the lore back then, but I still know it better than anything I learned in school.

The truth of the matter is that there was very little consistency to anything pre-M41 back then. There were some depictions in which the Primarchs were significantly larger than regular Spess Mahreens, but it was never specifically stated that they were bigger, and you could chalk the handful of cases as artistic license. The details of the Imperial Palace, the state of the Emperor's corpse, the equipment and nature of the Custodes etc all depended on how high the artist hired to depict them was at the time. Usually they were very, very high.

As someone who used to be obsessed with both WH40k and WHFB I've gotta say I enjoyed reading the End Times, as ridiculous and occasionally bad as it was, and am curious to see where they go with Rottitou Fullyglam. Looks like a more serious version of the Emperor's Text-to-Speech Device thing.

The only reason to have one man stores smaller than a third world country government housing is because they think "this web thing" will go away.

There is no reason to have those today. You need to make a place where people will go out of their house, walk/drive/bike/bus there with thier box of models and play with random people.

But the streams are letting us know that GW think people only play with friends, with all thier "forge the narrative" and complete ignorence of their own rules from the rules writers.

Not really, considering all of their boxed games have been relatively tight, design wise.

Thing about 40k though, you can basically drum up enough interest and play any edition of its rules at the drop of a hat. If a new edition rocks the boat more than you'd like, go retro for a bit and see if things settle down.

>>

That's much more difficult. That's basically you and a friend making a significant effort to relearn the rules. And you'd have to alter how the codex' are now, and somehow tone down the fact that every 2nd eldar weapon is S:D

The game as a whole is completely unbalanced, it needs significant work, even to play older, better editions.

Horus Heresy was the dawn of M31, and the Ecclisiarchy was the state religion in early M32, not only that, but the MRB states the Eccilisarchy was highly aggressive and made itself one of the largest, and the most powerful of the feuding cults within a few centuries of the Horus Heresy.

There's no way "idolatry" should be news to Guilliman, even missing 9000 years, and he should even be familiar with the Ecclisiarchy itself, even if it hadn't been declared the state religion before he got his throat cut.

>>
>>51950708

The BRB stated explicitly that the obsession with saintly relics, a key fixture of the idolatry practiced by the Imperial Cult, is seen as a joke amongst the Inquisition. Clearly Guilliman wasn't alone in this.

Even at the start of The Beast Arises, when Guilliman had been gone for centuries, the power of the Ecclesiarchy was still developing and the Imperium was prosperous and relatively dynamic, and the worship of the Emperor had not taken on the horrifying macabre aspect that it later would.

Things are MUCH different at the end of M41.
>>
>>51950948
>He'd still be loyal, but to the old imperium rather than the now twisted, warp-entity, worship-demanding emperor.
Interesting take, but I don't know if that's fitting to 30k Dorn's character. I pictured him as being anti-warp because he took the Emperor's pronouncements at face value most of the time and trusted him when he didn't, not because he was a dedicated fedora. And le autism probably made him not like new things and want things to reach a point where they'd be optimally arranged and stable, which the warp is the direct opposite of.

If Dorn comes back and isn't the same character he was in 30k, he had better:
>be loyalist (and not Alpharius-tier "loyalist" either - if Guilliman is trying to make the Imperium more like it was in the past, Dorn should be on board with that. Guilliman is not a more "conventional" person than Dorn)
>have his backstory and how his character changed explained

No, it's not just you. The pose is stupid
>>
>>51950967
Well yeah, that's why it makes sense that Guilliman is horrified by the ignorance, and squalor. But the original reply way up at the top notes it doesn't make sense for Guilliman to surprised by the idolatry part. He would have had plenty of time to come to terms with that particular aspect before he went under.

Even Dorn got over it before he disappeared, Index Astartes says what he hated about the Imperial Cult was that Primarch-worship was becoming as prevalent as Emperor worship and Dorn didn't think the Primarches were worthy of it.

Daily reminder that the current set of saintly and infallible High Lords are strong and decisive enough to try and eliminate Guilliman because they clearly have done a brilliant job of marshalling the resources of the Imperium to crush ALL the other cataclysmic threats that have appeared under their tenure and are most definitely not going to backstab or undermine each other like practically all their illustrious predecessors.
>>
>>51951983
To be fair it is true that the High Lords have done a great job. I mean the Imperium has only ever grown stronger and defeated every single enemy its ever faced so clearly the High Lords do a spot on job without the Primarchs.
>>
Gulliman x Celestine smut when?
>>
>>51950783
>Maybe now Lorgar will get out of the warp and fuck shit up.
I think by the end of the heresy Lorgar realised that Guilliman didn't want to do what he did to him and that he tried to make up for it. I doubt he holds a grudge.

Not that a demon prince needs much of an excuse to fuck up the Imperium though, although oddly enough sitting in the warp doing fuck all for 10,000 years probably was the most strategically valid way for them to damage the Imperium, since if they made a move sooner the thing might actually have united against them properly.

Nope, The Custodes were nothing to do with the Thunder Warriors. The Custodes, Thunder Warriors and Space Marines were all separate projects of The Emperor using differing techniques.

>40k is finally making gains again

I read through this thread and im liking what im seeing.

But whats the current situation with my fave Orks?

Ghazghkull?
Who won the Octavian War?
Nazdreg back yet?
>>
>>51954830
>Who won the Octavian War?

The Orks have it "under control", as in the Octarius War is still ongoing but the Orks are becoming stronger and the Tyranids are just a never ending horde. Anything could happen.
>>
>>51954811
and we all know that you can only create an improved system by using the same techniques, right ?
>>
>>51937631
>leader of the whole Imperium

Sot it actually has an emperor again now? Or is he just the spiritual leader and truly just in command of Segmentum Ultima? It just feels super weird to have the High Lords not be sperging out and starting a civil war over this.

Which would be fucking great, by the way. I'm totally ready for Imperium Major and Imperium Ultima butting heads.

>>51954830
>Who won the Octavian War?

Orks are winning. Because as long as the fighting keeps going orks always win.
>>
>>51945730
Filename.

Well played, good sir.
>>
>>51955168
>Or is
we don't really know anything at this point, just that guilliman is not exactly happy about the state of the empire, and celestine wants to bone him
>>
>>51955208
Meanwhile, Greyfax wants to stone him.
>>
>>51955245
We haven't seen anything from her yet. Chances are she wants to murder everyone else for involving aliens in the revival process, though.

>implying greyfax doesn't want the G as well
>>
So, I'm thinking about getting back in to 40k. With this End Times-esqe stuff and rumours of 8th Edition abound, is it worth my time jumping in or should I just wait and see?
>>
>>51955335
if you build a small army before the summer, you'll be able to take part in all the shenanigans as they happen.

but if you're easily turned away and discouraged by new editions/rules/lore, then it would be better to wait and see

Gulliman unloading 10,000 years of pent up seed into his new harem when?

The Orks were losing hard until Ghazghkull arrived then it reset to a stalemate

>>

Yeah, thus the question. Why would they wait 30 years to bring back a Primarch unless their sales were dipping.
>>
>>51960037
>implying

You realize they brought tons of Primarchs back in 30k years ago.

And made so much fucking money FW is basically Primarchs and Marines: The Company.

People with BRAINS would first think maybe they're riding on that style of success.

People with BRAINS would read investor reports to get sales numbers.

People with BRAINS.
>>

>brought tons of Primarchs back

But Primarchs never left 30k. You stupid?
>>
>>51960142
>Emperor created Primarchs

>Emperor found them and brought them back to their legions

What was that, faggot?
>>
>>51960164
That all happened in 30k. Though, I guess technically they existed into 31k.
>>
The guy who sculpted Guilliman is the one who made the Wratihknight, Durthu the giant treeman, and Nagash.

No wonder he fucking sucks, he only knows how to make those shitty new modern models with shit proportions. Although I'll admit Nagash's body is pretty cool, but then they drown him in giant model swirly shit syndrome.

They tried logical extreme of that philosophy with AoS, and it was soundly rejected. They had to backtrack and release the General's Handbook, which is now the core book of the whole range.

Okay, okay, I see what's happening here:
You're face to face with greatness, and it's strange!
You don't even know how you feel:
It's adorable!
Well, it's nice to see Astartes never change.
Open your eyes, let's begin...
Yes, it's really me, it's Roboute: breathe it in!
I know it's a lot: the hair, the bod!
When you're staring at a demi-god!
What can I say except you're welcome!
For guarding your world and sky!
Hey, it's okay, it's okay:
You're welcome!
I'm just an ordinary demi-guy!

We don't have a complete kit of plastic MKVI with Umbra pattern bolters. Even GW isn't crazy enough to expect their players to scrounge for MKVI parts from the regular lineup.

Besides, by that reasoning we already had MKIV in the 40k lineup.
>>
>>51937715

I never knew why they put those stupid explanations there. The descriptions on their website are retarded, too. Are they not trusting the customers to know that there is a bolter in the space marines' hands?

Nah, Guilliman is going to take over the High Lords like he did during the Scouring, he will either be part of the high lord council or fix some shit and head back to Ultramar.
