Essentially nothing stops the average woman from being an officer, you don't need to be big, strong, or even physically fit to be a general, plenty of generals were fat sacks of shit, some of them were even good generals.

In real life there are countries with more women in positions of major political power than western countries, yet ironically are 50 years behind when it comes to women's rights. Now, to answer the question. If vehicle pilot of some sort is automaticlly granted an officers rank, then I could see the society in question having only female officers and not soldiers. As piloting a vehicle takes care of the latter issue, and pilots would be rare enough that female combat suits would not be a massive expense.

Your father enlisted, started as a recruit, not a private, served, EAS, went to collage, then joined the military as an officer.

Nobody promotes directly from enlisted to officer ranks because doing so is, frankly, really fucking stupid. It's saying "Well, you are a great foreman on this construction crew. Let's make you stop doing that, what you are good at, and make you go handle administrative overhead in the office."

Good noncoms are vital to the health of the military. Promoting people out of them is a Bad Idea.

People that were enlisted and became officers do so not because they got too much XP for Enlisted Ranks, but because they went though school and came back to join as an officer, just like they could have if they'd never been enlisted.

The only other way is the Raw Fucking Madness of someone that already has a degree enlisting, for some reason, then asking to be sent to OCS when in service. This requires someone that could have just applied to OCS to begin with not do so when joining.

If by "soldier" you mean "enlisted personnel", a matriarchal society in which men are second-class citizens at best could have women in positions of power and higher military positions.
