The worst kind of Neutral Evil. Possibly Chaotic Neutral or Chaotic Evil, depending on the episode in question.

Peggy Hill is legitimately an awful person. She's selfish, dishonest, willingly ignorant, stubborn, and does things on a whim without thinking them through.

She has a few moments of clarity and loyalty, but usually only after she lets her hubris get in her own and everyone else's way, and cause problems that Hank has to solve.

Agreed. She's complete and utter shit. She's a fictional character, yet she's written so true to life that you hate her almost as if she were real. Cotton's only redeeming quality was that he loathed Peggy.

As great as the show was, it would have been even better if they'd killed her off after the failed parachute jump.

I was okay with her not dying exclusively because I didn't want an episode where Hank was pressured into trying to find new love. He was a wreck even when he dreamed about Nancy but even in his wildest fantasies, it was more about selling propane for different uses. I think one of the funny things about the show was how he didn't really have anything that made him attracted to Peggy and was often more loving and thoughtful towards his dog. Hank really just wanted a housewife that was there for him but Peggy's arrogance and independence left them constantly at ends though his inability to comprehend not loving her made it so that he consistently would do anything for her without getting angry or fed up save a few times. I think the very idea of remarrying goes against his character.

Kind of.

As a southerner, I can verify that a lot of what Lucky does reminds me of my hick of an uncle (by marriage, thank god), but unlike my uncle, Lucky has his moments of being a good guy.

I also forgot to mention that literally ONLY she wasn't okay with the whole thing. Well, Lucky was only okay with it if he got his GED, which, thanks to peggy, he didn't. The shotgun wedding scene was funny though
>>
>>51892201
Paladins don't fall for making mistakes. If that were the case nobody would be a paladin for very long. They only fall when they CHOOSE to forsake their code and their oaths. When a paladin makes a mistake, or tries his best to live up to his code but ultimately fails, he only has to atone.

I mean, sure, I can kind of see where you're coming from, but it still feels wrong to get him a pass for it. Then again, at least he had a reason, if bigoted/misguided, to do some of the shit he did.

Unlike him, Peggy got everything she deserved, just as you said.
>>

>Cotton Hill has somehow become my second least favorite character, what sort of world is this?

As I alluded to earlier, Cotton has only two redeeming qualities: His love of G.H. and his utter hatred of Peggy.

Peggy was a monster. Not some exaggerated stereotype "teh evul" monster, but an entirely realistic monster. The fact that she and her behavior were realistic made Peggy that much worse.

I still think they would have done very well to kill Peggy in the parachute episode. Not so Hank could remarry, but so we'd see Hank being targeted by and having to deal with predatory MILFs and divorcees.

Hank, however reluctantly, being part of the "Our Time" scene would have been comedy gold.

>>
I need to actually watch this show.
>>
>>51885994
I haven't really watched King of the Hill but doesn't Hank just work as a salesman which makes him more of a white collar worker.
>>
>>51909636

Cotton is the kind of character who's a total dick but at the same time you kind of understand and empathize with him.

At the end of the day, he /is/ a war hero who suffered a serious maiming while fighting in some of World War II's most brutal engagements. Before that, he had to grow up in the Depression. He's a survivor in every sense of the word, and it's obvious he'd have little patience for any kind of sissy-talk behavior.

Now this doesn't excuse his blatant racism and borderline abusive parenting, but at the very least you understand why he's so rough around the edges. And for all his faults, when the chips were really down he always revealed he had at least some heart.
>>
>>51913750
That's why it says "just above blue-collar." Although the implication that white-collar workers are simply better than blue-collar workers is kinda rude.
>>
>>51886057
This is written and I still can't parse it.
>>
>>51913822
>you kind of understand and empathize with him.
That's the thing about King of the Hill, all of the characters, sans sometimes Dale, are people that are realistic. They have flaws, but their values show through during times when they come against a moral quandary. Except Peggy. She's pretty amoral.

>>
>>51913822
>borderline abusive parenting

It's flat out child abuse. Hank was lucky he didn't grow up to have pretty severe dependency, trust, and self-esteem issues.
>>
>>51914306

Hank was lucky he didn't grow up to be Bill.

Hank's choice of and loyalty to a woman as defective and horrid as Peggy has a lot to do with his childhood.
>>
>>51914053

> Except Peggy. She's pretty amoral.

Peggy gets a bad rap and for the most part it's justified but she wasn't a total monster. She obviously loved her son and even though she was a less strict parent she didn't coddle him either. Remember the episode where Bobby turned to Bill when he broke up with Connie and Peggy immediately saw how bad that was gonna turn out?

>>51914306
Hank took a lot of Cotton's "lessons" to heart though and managed to grow up pretty tough. Shitty parenting overall, but the end result was a functional and thoroughly decent human being. Another testament to the show's complexity I guess.
>>
>>51914484
>She obviously loved her son

Not quite. Peggy loved the fact she had a son. She loved what Bobby represented - he was proof she was a woman someone desired enough to knock up. She didn't love Bobby as an actual person. She loved what his existence reflected on her. Which leads me to...

>>Remember the episode where Bobby turned to Bill when he broke up with Connie and Peggy immediately saw how bad that was gonna turn out?

She didn't do that for Bobby's sake. She did it because she didn't want something she produced, Bobby, turning into something she loathed, Bill. If that happened, it would reflect poorly on her.

In Peggy's mind, Bobby was a yardstick Peggy used to measure herself against other women and other parents. Bobby was not a human in and of himself.

Peggy is evil because she's *this* close to being a complete solipsist. Remember, she was nearly jailed in Mexico for kidnapping because she couldn't even admit to herself that she can't speak Spanish. Her delusion is so strong that Hank and her lawyer had to trick her into revealing her incompetence to the judge.

If she really only cared about using Bobby as a "yardstick", then she wouldn't have told Hank to lighten up towards him so often.
>>
>>51918970
>If she really only cared about using Bobby as a "yardstick", then she wouldn't have told Hank to lighten up towards him so often.

She told Hank that so she'd look like the better parent and not because it made Bobby's life better.

She isn't a supervillain. She isn't plotting how to screw everyone over. What she is is worse than that.

She's a solipsist: She has an "extreme preoccupation with and indulgence of one's feelings, desires, etc.; egoistic self-absorption." She acts and behaves as if only she exists. She has no empathy, no awareness that other people are even people unless she's shocked into doing so.

Even a supervillain knows they're hurting people. Hurting people is why they do what they do. Solipsists don't even acknowledge that other people exist.

Evil. As far as chaotic or lawful, it's impossible to say. Even the most evil of people realize what they are doing. Peggy doesn't. He is so self absorbed in her own little world that things just.... CANT be anything BUT how she imagines it. She cant admit that she is ever wrong because, in her mind, she never is.

She sees herself as the second-coming of Christ. In reality, she is a vain, selfish, loathsome person.

Loyal Good with some Neutral Good tendencies.
He's obviously a traditonnalist but not really a paladin type as he overall cares more about being good than traditionnal and his aversion towards new things is more justified by him being someone simple with some difficulty to adapt to changement or differences.
In D&D, he would probably rather end up in Bytopia after death than in Mount Celestia.
