So, on the tokens thing:

I carry all my decks in a big bag, with each deck in its own box, so each deck has a small complement of tokens- specifically, whatever kind of tokens that deck can naturally make. I also have a small box with some "generic" tokens, in case anyone needs some, as well as stuff from Planechase, so we have them ready.

Usually I have a maximum of 3 kinds of tokens for a deck, so I can denote tapped, untapped, and POSSIBLY a third one for Auras or Equipment.

It's a gamble, and there are certainly better options for this effect, but I run this card purely for the reaction it garners.

Nothing is better than playing one bomb, eating a counter, then cheating out another, possibly bigger bomb.

Hey guys, I was gonna buy my first commander and build my first commander deck over the next month. As a new player to edh, should I focus on a two color deck or is it okay to jump straight into three colors? I really like UG and UR, but also love Bant and Temur.

Two color manabases are cheaper, but you can build a functional (not optimal, but perfectly functional) 3-color manabase without breaking the bank. I'd say to decide on a Commander, or a specific interaction or theme, and build around that. Don't worry about the colors, worry about what you want your deck to -do-.

I find it much cheaper to put together a manabase for 3 color. You get more of the cheaper lands that (can) enter untapped, as opposed to running out of cheap options for your 2-color deck, and having to choose between cheap taplands or expensive untapped lands.

Can y'all help me fix my mana base? Since my last round of edits I've found it really hard to get a playable hand as far as mana goes. I keep drawing into some combo of not enough mana/the wrong colors. I'm thinking about taking out Cabal Coffers, Urborg, expedition map, and liliana, and exsanguinate and replacing them with some thing else.
I got a spare chromatic lantern. I don't want to buy ABUR duals. My noob friend has a blood stained mire he keeps offering me so I might take that off his hands but I really can't justify the other 2 fetches in my colors. Also any suggestion on what to replace the mentioned cards with would be super helpful.

The reanimation package also seems pretty meh, other than beacon you can only hit your graveyard yet you're not running Buried Alive or Corpse Connoisseur, nevermind that you don't have anything spicy to reanimate. I would cut them for more of the +1/+1 subtheme you've got going on like Hardened Scales and some more persist creatures along with sac effects (Ashnod's Altar, Skullclamp, Sadistic Hypnotist, Greater Good, Fallen Ideal)

Holy shit what you have is awful, like I understand budget things, but the core of your deck doesn't work.

First what you asked for, the mana base. Get rid of all your colorless producers, I get not going for ABUR, but if you don't at least want to spring for fetches and shocks you lose out in non green. Second off, get you some more rocks boy, 4 is a small number of rocks to run at your land count, double it at least and take out the trash from your deck like nighthawk to make room for them. Finally don't count coffers as a land, it's useless to you unless you have urborg.

Second off you need to get some real wincons. Holy shit I don't know how you win a game without lucksacking into coffers/urborg/exsanguinate. Put a few more real threats into the deck, right now your CA engine fuels a lot of removal and damn near no way to end a game. They don't have to be combos, but they should be stuff that can kill a player or two if left unchecked for more than a turn.

I have shocks and i'm not paying $120 (half the deck's current value) for 3 fetches.

I mostly win through token spam, indestructible fatties, or commander damage. I'm in a very low powered meta and this deck is considered the scariest deck in the meta. I'm just asking for some advice on ratios and what to replace with basic lands. Sorry this deck is an affront to god or something.


If this deck is such trash then why don't you name some cards to replace and what to replace them with? Give me a combo or something. Name a real threat. Also can you name some rocks that are good that aren't a gorrilion and a half dollars like the moxen?

I sort of get the feeling that you just view edh as leagcy lite. Something that is a solvable format instead of an excuse to chill with bro and drink beer. Because this deck is about being the monarch and keeping the monarch. I think it's pretty fun to play. I even have one of those conspiracy crowns the shop gave me. I bust it out sometimes just for this deck. It's nice to win but I don't need a deck that is tuned for competitive play because I honestly don't care about winning 34.638% of the time versus Derevi Stax.

What do you think is the core of this deck and what do you think doesn't work about it?

What I want is to get the proportion of colored manas right. I'm fine with everything as is except for some reason my I keep needing to mull 3 or 4 times because i keep getting 1 landers or just colors that don't work. According to my tapped out stats over half the decks mana symbols are white but the mana is roughly a perfect 3 way split between R/W/B.

I don't plan to make any other real edits beyond maybe replacing some of the Urborg/Coffers support with cards I think are fun. Not necessarily with things to make the deck competitive

Thank you for offering to help. I would still really love for some help balancing colored mana symbols. Thinking about it I don't need Ghost Quarter, Encroaching wastes, buried ruin, or throne of the high city. I do want to keep Rogue's passage (use it's secondary pretty much every time i get it), Westvale abbey (I can can pretty consistently flip it), and Temple of the false gods (not as tied to it but it works pretty well over all for. And I will probs pull Urborg/Coffers and replace expedition map with chromatic lantern. Do you think that will help me with get a more consistent opening hand?

Two cheap ways to add more ramp are talisman of pain and knight of the white orchid, then you should add the chromatic lantern since it's OK ramp and good fixing for you. If you replace your colorless lands (and rethink your position on temple of the false gods, it's probably the worst land in your deck.) You might be able to use some colorless rocks at this point (and you can go for whatever you need for that, junk like mindstone and thought vessel) , past that coldsteel heart and coalition relic are both solid, I prefer 2 CMC rocks though.

Also, don't be such a little bitch about things if you are going to ask for help on 4chan, you are going to at the very least be harshly criticized, if not outright trolled or insulted. This is not the hugbox of reddit or mtgsalvation, those communities often stifle real communication with the policing that goes on.

Also, while we're on the subject of feldon, let me tell you guys a play I sometimes do and you can tell me if I'm an idiot or not.

If I'm going second and I have an absolutely cash creature for the graveyard in my opening hand such as wurmcoil engine, I'll choose to play no land on turn one so I will have 8 cards in hand at end of turn, so I can discard the creature I want in the graveyard right away.

I'll only do it occasionally if the hand includes a mana rock or two so I can catch back up, or if I don't have any wheel or looting effects, or if I know the creature being there early will really give me a huge advantage later.

So it's not a play I do all the time but when I think I have the right cards and think it'll help, it often has good results

I usually do this in my monoblack reanimator, so I can turn 2/3 reanimate/animate dead/exhume something, but only when I have sheoldred/crypt ghast/kokusho /something else fun and have one of the three renaimation spells in hand.

Also add this so if you have this and wurmcoil in your hand, you're not as far behind.

That's easy. If it dies while it has Darksteel Mutation on it, it won't return the lands. If it gets Mutation and then Mutation is destroyed though, it will still return the lands when it dies.

Hey /tg/, do you include cards in your deck to counter the strategies of your friends? Does this get you tons of hate?

My playgroup is full of degenerate combos and land destruction, but if I include Hushwing Gryff in my deck their decks become worthless, but at the same time everyone will try to kill me first if I do, so what should I do?

Also is this card any good in commander? I've seen more and more people using it recently, and I can make the ability trigger every turn in my deck (obzedat), but even then the effect doesn't seem so strong to me.

Yes, you get double exiles, but unlike the angel, the targets won't even get exiled if someone removes Grasp before it's ETB-ability resolves.
This happens because angel creates the return trigger when it's removed, but because the card has only one trigger that does both the exiling and the returning.
And yes, even when you copy a trigger, the source doesn't change so the exiled stuff are tied to same permanent anyway.

So I've never really done the whole shitty +1/+1 counter deck thing.

I've got a couple categories for effects I want multiples of, not sure where to build from there.

In particular there are two themes I'm wondering if they will have any particular impact on the game. First are the stronger persist creatures. With Reyhan and a bunch of counters around I can continue to bounce between two powerful persist effects for a +1/+1 counter each time as long as I have a sac outlet. If I do decide to go that route, the question of whether we add the whole Pod package arises.

The next major theme is shitty Simic +1/+1 counter cards like Master Biomancer and Fathom Mage. Sure they're impactful if they stick around but they feel pretty winmore. My playgroup hovers between games with absolutely zero removal and constant Wraths and Counterspells so it's a tough call whether these will actually do anything.

I'm also considering Greater Good and co. Do Forgotten Ancients sit around long enough in +1/+1 counter decks to get to a decent power? Note that if I resolve it and don't win within a turn or two I'll probably be eliminated.

The angel lord from kaladesh is pretty neat pumps the board and shits out chumps. It also can be tutored up by both recruiters so its not hard to pull out of the deck.

Look, Sheldon, I know that you can't comprehend that people don't enjoy your artistic vision, but the fact of the matter is that your artistic vision for the format has filled it with fun police. I disagree. I have not once seen a group dissolve because people built increasingly casual decks, but I've seen plenty dissolve because someone decided to build Animar and started an arms race that sucked all of the fun out of the game.
