How do I make Barbaric Knights barbaric? I have a culture set in a sorta conan/steppes/wasteland that specializes in heavy spikey armor so I was thinking of using maybe russian/chaos warriors as a inspiration. Does the gentlemen of /tg/ have any suggestions?
Stick to Chaos Warriors. That's a good solid base.
And don't go for Russian warriors. You want RUS warriors.
The Swedish vikings that invaded what is now called Russia, killed off all the native Slavic nobles and became their new overlords.
That's where the word Russia came from. The Rus Vikings. From Sweden.

The black knight.

Understand that the code of chivalry was paid lipservice for the most part? That knights were essentially thugs and warlords? That whatever romanticism we've applied to them is a wholesale fabrication and that these were brutal killers who trained their entire lives to fight and were warmongers?

You can't have the highly specialized knowledge needed for plate without a large and stable population to support those specialists.
You're never going to see "barbarians" in the ugga bugga hulk smash sense running around with anything nearly as complicated and fiddly as plate. Chain sure, that you can loot. But plate needs to be fitted, and if they had "special" plate they'd have to make it themselves. And see pp 1 regarding that.
If you just mean "barbarian" as not-us strange people who think civilized means something different, then carry on with your retardarmor and more power to you.

Sadistic yes, Barbaric no.
Since this sounds like an equestrian culture from the steppe, look up any number of real life nomads such as the Mongols, Huns, Sarmatians, Parthians, Avars, and so on. Cataphract armor would fit for heavy cavalry that look more "primitive" than your usual full plate armored knight.
Have you niggers ever heard of Vengarl?

Do you understand that chivalry was a code of conduct during battle and duels, and not a social code?
Otherwise, weak bait is weak.
Make them Goths or Vandals.

The important thing to take away is the fact that Vengarl is a Knight from a country (or used to be country) called Forossa and basically act as mercenaries. As a matter of fact the armor used on the box art is Forossan armor
